I used to be a long-term customer at Frank's but I believe the ownership has changed hands and I never see those master tailors there anymore so I decided to try Ike's. I took in two pair of jeans (one brand-new, one vintage) for alteration. The new pair just needed to be hemmed. I specified ORIGINAL HEM. They weren't embellished and didn't have difficult seams or finishes and they charged me $75 to hem and the original hem wasn't applied. I called them twice while I was waiting for them to be done (I wanted to remind them, because it was prom season and they were busy). the woman on the phone said "We always do original hem" but I didn't get original hem back and now the jeans look cheaply made (the hem is also crooked). The other pair is a vintage pair of Calvin Klein jeans that I bough a size too large so they could be tailored to my body. They charged me $100 for those, which also seemed steep but I paid it. When I went to pick them up, it's like no one had actually touched the jeans. I tried them on again for them to correct it and was specific when the attendant was pinning them. I still don't think they were done, because now it looks like I have saddlebags because they were never taken in on the hips where I showed. I have now paid almost $200 for two pair of jeans to be altered that weren't what asked for; getting it fixed at another tailor will mean even more money spent. I will continue my search in Chicago for someone who can make basic alterations to clothing. Not removing/adjusting seams or dealing with challenging fabric-just 100% cotton fabric. with basic hem or just taking inches in along the side seams. Basic tailoring shouldn't cost so much or be this hard. read more

I've had amazing experiences at Ike's! The first one was in 2019 when I asked them to tailor a Black Widow cosplay I had ordered but it was too big. I was worried they'd refuse and look at me like was crazy or that it would cost more than the costume. I was wrong on both counts! They treated it like a regular request and did a beautiful job. Given that the fabric was a bit odd, I was super impressed. The cost was also incredibly reasonable. They completed it so quickly as well. So affordable, high quality, quick work done by very kind staff. I had a similar great experience when the tailored my wedding dress. They raised the sleeve and added a bustle that made the dress a dream for my big day. And again they did it with quality, speed and kindness. I'm a larger person and was worried about judgement and I've never gotten anything but encouragement and interest from the folks at Ikes. I can't recommend them enough. read more

Love Ike's. They worked on a gown for me that I needed taken in about 4 inches (post pregnancy), neck tightened with buttons/clasps moved, and the length raised about an inch. They did all of this work superbly and in less than a week for a fair price (discussed when I brought the dress in). Great work and will be back in the future. read more

Not going to rule them out just off my experience alone but they may be right for someone else. I was given a quote of $175 to alter uniform pants. I'm not sure what the going rate typically is, but that seemed a bit steep to me. For that price, I could buy 3 brand new uniform pieces that fit correctly. Again, don't rule them out, I would suggest going in and seeing for yourself. read more

Great shop with fair prices considering their location! I had to get the inseam corrected on some new pants. Items were ready and the stitching on the pants are the best I've ever seen. Literally better than the big name brand clothing's stitching that the pants are from. You can't tell that any alterations were done. Staff is friendly and very accommodating. Only con is that they never called even though the clothes were done and I had to follow up several days after the agreed upon due date. read more

Very pleased with this tailor shop. Parking wasn't easy to find but boy are they fast and precise. I had a few pair of jeans and a coat that needed to be altered quickly,l and they were done within a few days and it looked perfect. Be careful they do request payment up front which I never experienced with any other Taylors. When I dropped off my clothes I didn't had my wallet on me and they were very accommodating and asked me to call them with my credit card information. So glad I found this place. read more

Ike's continues to be my go to tailor! My husband and I are so impressed with the quality of work they do. It may be a bit expensive but worth every penny. My husband recently got some of his favorite suits that weren't really in style anymore, transformed into a slim European cut. Saved us from purchasing new ones. I also recently found out that a tailor in the gold coast (definitely more expensive) sends their work to Ike's but overcharges. So if you're going there, cut out the middle man, save some money and give Ike's the business it deserves! read more

Never again will I go here. For one they are rip offs on the prices. They charge double to triple what other charge. For two, their pride has gone down the hill. I use to go there for years, no more, not me or my fiance or my family no more. I kept going in again and again for same job, a shirt and pant, They took in shirt too much and is not repairable. And charged me. They could not fix since they took in more than they were suppose to. I learned my lesson. Affordable, professional and very much helped. After reading reviews here on Yelp, Ike's seemed like a good place to check out for my alteration needs. This wasn't a life-or-death situation, but my wife and I decided that if I could get my newly purchased off-the-rack suit tailored, we would attend our first black tie event together as husband and wife. Much to my surprise, not only we're they up to the task. But they were affordable. At 9 am, they took measurements, and told me my suit would be available for pickup by 3 pm. Hold the phone, same day service ice, under $100.....in downtown Chicago? Yep, and they had my suit ready by 2 pm. So get this, I put them to the ultimate test. My wife decided she would attempt to step things up, and rent an evening gown, day of event. She lucked out when we went to Frock shop in Pilsen. This amazing little boutique met her needs. But we did notice I little snare, or fringe on her gown, upon leaving Frock. No problem, we ran over to Ike's, and not only assured us that they could fix the issue. But that it could be fixed within a couple hours. Yep, twice in one day Ike's came through for us. read more

I had a great experience here. I brought in a suit to be tailored. I wanted to get their opinion on my jacket fit and I knew that I needed to get my pants shortened and tapered. They looked at my suit jacket and told me it looked like it fit properly in the arms and chest. I just think that really shows they were honest and not just making up adjustments to create business for themselves. The pants came back perfect. I called around a few places before and their prices seem fair to me. I paid $30 for getting my pants hemmed and tapered. To top it all off, they were just extremely friendly and polite. I had been to countless tailors as I am short and have an athletic build. I buy any type of pant and have to either have them hemmed and/or taken in from the sides. Ike's has been my go to for about 10 years now and I have never had to look back. They take such care and always give you top notch quality. This past week my daughter had to have her softball uniform tailored in a pinch as the jersey was too big (from top to bottom and all the way around) and the pants were a bit tight at the waist. They worked their magic and made her uniform custom made just for her, oh and in just one day!! I had waited till a few days before I needed a dress hemmed to take it in. This place is quite close to me and so I decided to just go in right when they opened on a Saturday. The guy was very pleasant and marked up the hem all the way around. I didn't need any other alterations. I'm a smaller girl and not proportional so typically I need quite a bit of alterations in addition to the length so I have gotten dozens of dresses altered but this time I only needed a hem. After about 15 minutes of marking it up, I took it off and asked if it could be ready by Wednesday. They said no problem. I went to go pay and they said $80...I thought that was pretty pricey but I figured maybe since I needed it in a few days it was extra. So I said 'eighty dollars?' and she said 'no, one eighty.' I thought perhaps I was on a hidden camera show. I've gotten a ton of alterations done and none of them even come close to that, even when I got a bustle or cups put in. This was literally just a hem. I had gotten a hem on a bridemaids dress a few months before at Maria's in the loop and it was $35. I would definitely not reocmmend. read more

I did an accidental run into this tailor shop because one of the stores in the immediate area would not take my rush job. I needed some buttons sewn on immediately and guess what? Yes they did! It took them about 10 minutes and WaLa. The price was unbelievable, I expected to pay four times more especially since I had a rush job. I've been meaning to write a review about this place for a long time. After moving to Chicago, I needed to find a new tailor. I tried a few different places, with so-so results (and 1 terrible experience). Then I decided to try out Ike's, which just so happened to also be the closest tailor to my apartment. Well, I'm an idiot because I should have gone there to begin with. I've taken in roughly around 20 - 25 pieces to be altered and every time I've gotten the article of clothing back, I've been amazed on how well the craftsmanship is. From a simple button being re-sewn on, to having a jacket completely reworked in order for in to fit me better, I have never been remotely dissatisfied with the work I've had done. read more

Unlike an unnamed tailor shop less than a tenth of a mile away, the folks at Ike's seemed to care about making sure the blazer I brought in looked good on me. A younger guy in his 30s took his time pinning my blazer up and explaining why sealing up the vents on my double-vented jacket could help it drape better. It's not the cheapest tailor I've been to ($23 to shorten sleeves and $45 to bring in the chest of the jacket), but the work was done in less than 48 hours and the stitching looks high quality. I plan on bringing in a seersucker suit I bought for an August Vegas trip. read more

I used this company based on the reviews. I had 2 pairs of dress pants hemmed about 3 months ago. When I got the pants back I was pleased as they fit well. But the hem came out of one pair within a month. It was a lower quality pant (Gap) so I thought maybe the fabric was the problem. But I'm wearing the high quality pair today and just realized that the hem is also coming out on this pair too. I've been having my pants hemmed at various places for the last 10 years, and have never had a hem unravel let alone 2 hems within 3 months of having them hemmed. If it would have just been one pair I would have thought it was a fluke, but when the same thing happened to both pairs I have to think it's indication of poor work. read more

Ike's tailor shop is a hidden neighborhood gem! The tailor gives you his initial quote, then asks if it's suitable for you. They're fairly willing to work with you which is nice, and their prices are average. You definitely don't feel like you're getting skimped here! They also are very good at prioritizing your pieces of you need them in a quick amount of time.
