I'll start by saying I got married a week ago and my dress fit beautifully. However, Arthur and Lucca acted unprofessional on MULTIPLE occasions throughout the tailoring process and as a result, I wouldn't recommend them nor will I ever go there again. 1. After my first appointment, they were supposed to make adjustments to two different places on the dress. I came back to try it on and only one of the two was made. Not a huge deal but documenting considering it was one of many red flags. 2. The design of the dress had a dart in each cup which was unfortunately a bit tricky to work around. While I completely understand they can only do so much before having to completely reconstruct the top of the dress, they essentially threw up their hands and said there was nothing they could do to make the top fit my body more appropriately (except add thin padding). I ended up bringing in my mother in law to my next appt who told THEM where to cinch in the sides and top to make the cups lie flatter. 3. After that appt, I realized 8 weeks had passed and I hadn't heard from them. I called the store asking for an update on my dress. They said they'd just moved locations and would call me with an update by end of day. They never called me back. I called again the following day. It sounded like they hadn't made the alterations yet but assured me they would rush them for my next appt. 4. Fast forward thru one more fitting and I show up, as scheduled, to pick up my dress. There's a STAIN on the front. The seamstress tried to play it off like I had already known about it. WHAT?? Why would I show up 2 weeks before I leave for my wedding to pick up my dress knowing there's a stain on it? I came back 4 days later and the stain was gone and the final fitting went well, but that is NOT the stress a bride needs that close to her wedding day. As we were leaving she made a comment about buying shout wipes because the fabric of my dress picks up stains easily. 5. On the morning of my wedding we discovered a black line across the back near the train. I NEVER took the dress out of the garment bag after leaving the shop so this was 100% Arthur and Lucca's fault. Luckily, my wedding planner was able to get it out. I paid close to $1,000 for alterations to my wedding dress and certainly did not receive the level of customer service I should have. read more

I had a deeply disappointing experience with Arthur and Lucca. I was referred by two brides who had good experiences so I'm not sure what has happened in the last few years but the referrals to my other friends who are brides stop here. From the start, communication was a significant issue. I repeatedly mentioned adding straps to my dress, but despite my efforts, they were never included. I even sent multiple pictures for reference, but those were overlooked or not added in my client portfolio. The manager even had the audacity to call and ask me if I paid for the straps prior to my last fitting. Each time I followed up, I was met with vague responses, and it felt like I was the one being gaslit about my requests and timelines. As the wedding date approached, I grew increasingly anxious about whether I would even receive my dress on time. I had to chase them down multiple times just to confirm the status, only to find out they had the wrong date in their files. First, I was told the dress would be ready a month before my wedding, then two weeks, then the week of my wedding!! I said this was unacceptable and I needed the dress at least a week before my wedding to ensure that everything was ok and that I had other things to do the week before my wedding and my MOH could not come in to learn the bustle. They made it seem like asking for my wedding dress to be ready a week before my wedding was a crazy request and told me that I said 4 days before my wedding was the date WE agreed on, when I never agreed to this. This was beyond frustrating and added unnecessary stress to an already busy time. When I finally received the dress, it honestly wasn't that great, but I was too tired and frustrated and we didn't have enough time for me to even say anything! The hem was poorly done, the bustle loops were hanging out and visible as I walked, and the dress was so wrinkled that my friends and family had to spend valuable time during the wedding week to press it themselves. I had asked if the slit could be tacked down because I was nervous it was too high, but they said no that it wasn't needed. On my wedding day, I found myself constantly adjusting my dress because the slit was indeed too high, which was incredibly distracting. To make matters worse, during my first dance, one of the straps completely fell off! This continued to happen during dancing until I finally just ripped them both off and had a better time. This was not the experience I envisioned for such a special day. The entire process was riddled with miscommunication, poor quality work, and a complete lack of professionalism. I left their studio feeling more stressed than when I entered, and I wouldn't wish this experience on my worst enemy. Save yourself the headache and find a tailor who values communication and craftsmanship. read more

I really wish I could write something better because our consultant Ashley has been nothing but wonderful. However, of the six people I know who got suits and tuxedos custom made here or are in the process of it, not a single deadline has been met. Virtually zero communication. Impossible to get ahold of Nicholas. I don't know if he realizes that we all talk to each other, but we are ALL getting the same run around. This man seems to have a lot of family emergencies, fevers, supply chain issues, shipping problems, etc. there will always be an excuse, and probably one will be tacked onto this review. I am embarrassed to have recommended this place to so many people and will not be doing so moving forward. I've worked with many custom clothiers in Chicago, and this experience has by far and wide been the worst. I recommend avoiding at all costs. Avoid this place like the plague. Nicholas does good work but he never hits his deadline. Work that will take "two weeks" to complete is still unfinished 2-3 months later. Custom orders go unfilled for months, if ever. I paid for custom clothing in June, but the clothing STILL isn't finished. Phone calls and emails have gone unanswered. The merchant refused to offer a refund. I never write bad reviews, but I'd hate for anyone else to end up in a similar situation. read more

I picked this place because it was close to where I live and work, and maybe that wasn't a great strategy. As others have said, their elevator is broken, and their stairs are oddly spaced so they're not easy to climb (especially on a 100 degree day like I had to do-nothing like sweating through your clothes then having to stand there still sweaty in your nice dress to get it pinned). The elevator issue is likely on the building, but looking at previous reviews and their website, it seems like it's been an issue for a while and isn't actually going to be fixed. Still, very annoying. The person I worked with (both for the initial fitting and then when I picked it up), was friendly enough. However, I made an appointment for my initial fitting and was there on time, but the girl (can't remember her name) proceeded to go back and forth between myself and another person getting alternations. I don't know if the other person had an appointment or not, but I know I did, so it was annoying to have to just stand there while waiting for her to work with the other person. (My frustration was probably heightened by the aforementioned sweating I experience due to a stair climb of three flights in 100 degree weather, but the principle remains the same). If you have an appointment, honor it. When I came back to pick it up everything went smoothly. Although, everything seemed fine when I tried it on, when I actually wore the dress it was too long. I can't figure it out, and I didn't notice it during the try on (even though I was wearing the exact same shoes), but I had to pick it up quite a bit to walk in it, so that was frustrating. Also, wow are they pricey. They do list their prices on the website, which I appreciated, but what I didn't appreciate is that everything was listed in 'technical terms.' I know I needed the dress hemmed, but there were like, 10 different hemming options, how was I supposed to know which one would be what I needed, I'm not a seamstress. It turned out to be $330 to hem a dress, shorten some straps (very basic straps), and tuck in at the chest a little bit. That's a loooooot of money, especially when the dress itself only cost $120. read more

I made an appointment here because it was recommended by where I purchased my wedding dress. I will tell you, I have never second guessed a purchase more in my life, or felt so defeated and not supported, than I did coming here. As a seamstress, or someone doing alterations, I more than understand you need to be very transparent with customers, but I felt like none of my questions were answered, I was given zero help or feedback, and I will be taking my business elsewhere. I felt that A+L was incredibly insensitive, had zero disregard to the Covid business guidelines that were about to be lifted, and did not help me feel confident in my purchase of my wedding dress. So much so, that Nicholas recommended BUYING A NEW DRESS. You know, not like I spent 4K already on my once in a lifetime dress. Not to mention the poor communication and mistakes in scheduling it took to actually get an appointment here. Honestly, this place has poor business practices, is incredibly disrespectful, insensitive and rude, and the least bit helpful. This was BY FAR the worst, most misleading retail experience I have ever encountered. I made a 12:00 appointment to get my wedding dress altered. I wanted my mom to join me as a second set of eyes, especially given that it's difficult to make judgements on the back of a dress when you're wearing. I was told that due to the pandemic I was not allowed to bring anyone. I acquiesced and arrived 10 minutes before my scheduled appointment time. While waiting for more than 45 minutes to be seen, I noticed patrons walking in and out of the store and others who brought people to their fittings. This was entirely misleading because it was originally represented that I couldn't bring my mom due to the pandemic yet there was monitoring of how many people were coming into the store to shop. I certainly sympathize with business owners who have struggled during the pandemic and wish all of them nothing but success. However, I was originally led to believe that restrictions regarding my mom's attendance was entirely due to the pandemic, which is somewhat misleading for those who are still a little more concerned about COVID. In conclusion, I explained to the owner that this was totally unreasonable and would be taking my business elsewhere. read more

I recently brought in a Veronica Beard blazer to get the sleeves shortened - the person helping me explained how they would have to do it (not as easy as cutting off the end lol!) and because they would have had to take the whole sleeve off, the price was higher than I wanted to pay. I went to Arthur and Lucca for my custom wedding suit. When I got back the final suit there was a fabric pull in the pants. Nick informed me that he couldn't fix it in time for the wedding but he would refund me for the pants. My wedding was on July 23rd. I followed up about the refund on September 13th as I had still not received it. Nick promised again that the refund was being processed and that there was an issue with their payment system. I am writing this review on October 19th after I have followed up once again and I still have not received my refund. I have tried to wait to post a review so that this shop could make the situation right. At this point, I feel that others need to be aware of how unprofessionally this shop is run. I've had issues with their tailoring and their customer service both of which have been dragged out for months and still have no resolution. I urge anyone looking for a custom suit or even a tailor to look elsewhere. read more

I had the worst experience with my wedding alterations. I heard great reviews and this place was recommended to me by Winnie Couture bridal. Unfortunately it was awful. I had my first appointment on August 8, 2021 at which time they told me it would take 7-10 days for the first alteration and I would come back for a second one at a different time. The week of august 23rd -27th I left 3 messages asking when my dress would be completed with the first set of alterations. I finally got a call back on August 28th (20 days later) saying they were just closing up my dress and would call me back when it was finished so I could make a second appointment. I was very forgiving and told them I understood the craziness with covid and being short staffed. That did not happen. I left two messages this week and no one returned my calls. I physically drove in there Wednesday of this week to see what was going on and made an appointment for myself for Thursday September 2nd. Keep in mind, I leave September 7th for my wedding and still haven't received a call for my second appointment. At tia time it was clear through the hips and the the butt on the back of the dress it was clearly a bit too big. I went back on Friday and told him I wanted it taken in and he said he couldn't accommodate me because they were off Saturday, Sunday and Monday. He told me it could be done by noon on Tuesday at which time I would need to fly out for my wedding. He said he couldn't get it to me before that. If only he would have returned my calls then we wouldn't be in this situation. Disappointed and frustrated and sad. What was supposed to be a good experience was awful. Don't come here. read more

But this place is just terrible, down to the pompous attitude of the employees to the actual quality of work they do, it's an embarrassment. It is by far one of the worst suits I've ever had tailored, it amazingly still feels like it's off the rack. No care or skill put into the work. Just lazy. It's way overpriced for work that they don't even do themselves, they outsource all of their work. How can you expect to get bespoke work done, when the "tailor" doing your fitting won't even touch your clothes? Do yourself a favor and support another tailor more deserving of your business. I've used Arthur and Lucca twice now for alterations for a bridesmaid and another formal dress. The first was in late 2020 when we were all still working around COVID, my dress turned out fabulous and on the requested date. They were able to alter the length, sleeves and add material to v-neck - turned out gorgeous. The second time was June 2022 - alterations to the sleeves of a formal satin dress - really fantastic work, turned it around quickly and when I couldn't get all the way west to their store from clark and fullerton before my flight, they couriered my dress to me at no charge. Very pleasant experience. Saved a couple pairs of linen pants that a previous tailor had nearly ruined. Pros: They're opinionated in a good way. I want my tailor to know how pants should hang, and mine did here. Also, it's just way nicer to be in this shop than it is to be in other tailors around Chicago. Easy parking around here is also nice. Cons: It's pretty frustrating that you can't call, but I love the appointments system and they're responsive enough over email. Let me first state that after my first visit in 2015, I left a 5-start review for Nicholas and his associates. Nicholas was very patient and personally spent 45 minutes explaining the architecture of my suit and how to make every adjustment to fit my vision. It was refreshing how detail-oriented he was. However, my experience in 2018 was stark contrast. Having purchased a new Ralph Lauren Purple Label suit, I immediately scheduled a fitting with Peter Fields. However, I was met with impatience and reminded a few times that the tailor is not paid by the hour. I was hastily pressured to make quick decisions in fit regardless of the final outcome. It was evident that the focus had adjusted to the bottom line and away from the customer. To some degree, I get it. Being a small tailor in NYC/Chicago is tough - quantity matters if you want to keep the lights on. I was surprised how much the paradigm had shifted from quality to quantity. Pick-up day #1 comes: Pants are too short, jacket is too tight, buttons aren't sewn into the jacket's cuffs ($90). Return to tailor with noted adjustments. Pick-up day #2 comes: Jacket still tight and is pulling to the right. Pants aren't hanging correctly. Tailor had skewed the hemming so the pant legs torqued at bottom. Tailor asks if I can come back. I am told that tailor will not make any additional changes if these adjustments don't work. Pick-up day #3 comes (three weeks after initial pick up date, 6 weeks altogether): changes are finally made and tailor returns clothing. I take home without trying on because I'm in a hurry (shame on me). Pant legs are different lengths and the waist adjustment is uneven- adjustments were made to one side of waist so the crotch is skewed to the right. Fed up, I ask for refund on pants so we can all move on. Bottom line - Peter Fields operates on quantity. If you have a less expensive suit (Indochino is their main client...great casual suits and I have one myself), then I recommend this firm. However - if you have a very strong eye and need time with the tailor, the go down the road to someone who will support that. I just bought a new suit a week ago and I'm in the market for a new tailor if you have any suggestions. read more

Nicholas and the Arthur and Lucca team were INCREDIBLE!! I was in a wedding on July 17th. On July 5th I woke up and realized I needed to face the fact that my bridesmaid dress (bought pre-pandemic) was not even going to remotely zip. I panic searched for tailors, found Arthur and Lucca and was able to schedule a next day appointment. When Nicholas saw just how small the dress was, he didn't over promise but he was so amazing! He was kind, explained all possible scenarios and recommended the best possible option. They had to do some serious work on it. They turned it as quickly as their schedule would allow. I anxiously waited and on July 15 (two days before the wedding) I went to try on and pick up and it was AMAZING. It fit like a glove. Such great work in such a short time.
