My first experience at Knot Standard was really comfortable and easy. My stylist, Pawel, was hospitable, offered me my favorite beer (instant way to win a guy over), and then proceeded to take my measurements and allow me to choose fabrics in respect of my time. The finished product (my first shirt from them) is 100% the best fitting custom garment I have ever owned. I have had things tailored before, but never custom made. I am thrilled with the material, the look and the way it falls on my torso. The prices are extremely reasonable for the types of fabric they give you access to. I'm going to explore more of what they have to offer very soon as I recently was promoted and need some flattering fitted attire. I recall that they had cut rate access to Zegna fabrics among others, which is exciting to me because I am not someone who cares about wearing the label as much as experiencing the quality and durability. I know they have my sizes saved, which I will probably take advantage of for some of my future orders as I am busy -- although I would love to see Pawel again soon. I feel like at this point in my life, I'm drawn to a higher quality of menswear than what I have previously donned, and Knot Standard will definitely be one of my go-to sources because I feel like I've got a good thing going there. read more

I've always appreciated great formal and business clothing and appeal ranging from Suit Supply, Nordstrom's, and Bloomingdales. Each purchase (shirts, slacks, jackets, and suits) left me feeling good but not great... I wanted to love it but was restricted to what was on the rack. Knot Standard is my first experience having tailored business clothing and will never go back! I worked with Jennifer Fockler and was calmly welcomed and introduced to the process. I learned a lot along the about mistakes I've made in the past (pockets are supposed to be functional, jacket length, etc). Jennifer listened and identify what I liked from a style perspective and identify great combinations of fabrics, colors, thread, and buttons. The process takes a number of weeks but is well worth the wait once you try it on. My 40+ measurements are saved in the system and can be tweaked as needed making repeat visits easy and enjoyable... i.e. just picking out my new shirt or jacket. The personal touches like having my initials inside my jacket, custom pen pockets, perfectly fit and tapered slacks has exceeded my expectations and I will be coming back. read more

It's a very different feeling to have menswear *made* for you vs. something that just fits. I first went to Knot Standard is when I had a blazer made. I've had an off the rack suit for more than 10 years and recently noticed how well my cousin's custom made suit fit him compared to my older suit which sagged and had not been altered to fit my frame. I worked with Katie F. in the River North location in Chicago. Katie helped me pick the buttons, lining and collar style based on what I like and how I would be using the blazer. I ended up with a lightweight wool blazer with custom buttons, thread, lining made to fit me. When I took the blazer to an off-the-rack retailer to match a sweater to the trim color, two different clerks *and* a customer in the dressing room complemented me! I then wore it to a birthday party got several compliments on it. To top it off, one of the people the party who was once a seamstress and commented on how well the cut of the jacket fit me. I've never had an easy time finding "off the rack" clothing for my slim 6'2" frame. I'd have to buy suits that were too big around the chest and the waist because that was the only way I could get a long enough jacket sleeve. After paying hundreds on alterations I was basically spending as much as I would on a custom suit so I decided to do some research and take the plunge. Knot Standard is bespoke menswear with impeccable service and no pretentiousness. Every time I wear one of my K&S sportcoats I receive a complement on how sharp I look. I've always have trouble finding the right fit in my style. After a fit and style consult with Danielle, she explained why I have difficulty "buying off the rack" and shared a wide selection of fabrics and customization options. Danielle made fashion approachable and was a joy to work with. When it can to menswear style she nailed it! I've order two sportcoats, pants, and shirts over the past year and will continue to work with Danielle on any future wardrobe need. I had a absolutely fantastic experience at Knot Standard working with Katie F. I'd been meaning to get a custom shirt for some time, and finally go around to having it done. I must say, it is absolutely, 1000% worth it. Beyond the customer service and overall experience being very top-shelf, the fit of the shirt is outstanding. For what is really just a few more bucks than what you'd spend at a retailer (think Banana, J. Crew, Macy's) you can have a shirt that was made with your specific fit and sensibilities in mind. In fact, there have been times where I've bought pieces off-the-rack and subsequently had them altered, which ultimately cost more than a custom piece! The range in colors, patterns, materials, and costs is quite wide, but was also very approachable with the help of the professionals. There are a variety of custom clothiers here in Chicago, but my advice is to check out Knot Standard and seek out Katie F. for what will undoubtedly be a great experience. read more

Ellie H. and the Knot Standard Chicago team were incredible to work with under unusual circumstances. I live in North Carolina and ordered a suit, two Jackets and several pairs of pants from the San Francisco shop. They arrived and were in need of some tailoring to achieve the perfect fit, but I don't have anyone in my area who was up to the task. I was going to be in Chicago for two days, but only had an hour free. WOW! An actual custom suit company that gets it. Although they are street level, they go by appointment- which makes total sense. They have a handful of advisors from excellent menswear backgrounds. I found out about them from a party they held last year and ended up making an appointment. Knot Standard is a great place to find a perfectly fitted suit or sport jacket. If you have been buying off the rack jackets and pants and find that, depending on the designer, vary in fit from good to boxy. Having a jacket made with quality fabric and fitted to your specific size is worth the money. If you take my advice and visit the store ask for Katie.
