The Uncommon closet was the perfect place to take my wedding dress in! I bought my dress on extreme discount from David's Bridal, with the catch that it was 3 sizes too big. Not only did their tailors make it fit, but they made adjustments to compliment my body type and make me feel beautiful in this dress. They were very friendly, affordable (with payment plans available), and responsive. Highly recommend!

    My perfect dress!

I had the most incredible experience here. I was getting married and needed alterations to my dress. I got quotes for the cost of my dress and then some. I understand time, I knowledge and effort. However, the word wedding has a very pricey markup. Well that didn't apply here. I had my dress turned into my dream dress for my elopement. They even made me a mask and my now husband a pocket square for his suit. I felt like a true princess when I went into the shop. I'm so happy I found this shop!

I loved working with Uncommon Closet for my wedding dress alterations and customization. When I bought my wedding dress, I did so knowing that it needed some work to align with my vision. As a plus-sized person, it was really important to me that I find a judgment-free, welcoming place to do my alterations. It was also important for my wedding to primarily support locally-owned, BIPOC, and/or queer-owned businesses. Enter Uncommon Closet. Korri and Ian were so helpful and professional and had a kind energy that made me feel so safe for every fitting. Aside from their energy, Uncommon Closet's work is so careful and meticulous. Ian handled the extensive alterations to my wedding dress (including building an entirely new illusion top and back to my dress, adding in a corset back, and hemming several layers of sparkly tulle) so carefully. I got so many compliments on how my dress fit and how beautiful I looked. I do recommend folks with wedding outfits to reach out about alterations EARLY since this is a small business and they are so in-demand. Thank you Uncommon Closet :)

My wife and I got tailor-made outfits for our wedding on 2-2-24 through Uncommon Closet. We both just had ideas in our heads of what we would like the outfits to look like, but no pictures to back up our vision. We went in with separate appointments with the intent of surprising each other the day of the event with our outfits. The team at Uncommon Closet was so professional and encouraging. They showed me samples and gave me a choice in all the details to have the suit built to my exact vision. They catered it to my exact size, and when I had a fitting in which my suit pants didn't fit exactly right, they completely redid them to ensure they were perfect. The result was absolute perfection for my wife and I. Please note that if you want an outfit made, please give plenty of time. They are very busy and need planning to make the results just what you like.

Uncommon Closet tailored my wedding jumpsuit (major revisions including taking it from wide-leg to narrow leg ) and skirt (hemming 12-ish layers of tulle). I had a great experience here - scheduling was easy, everything was done on-time, people were friendly, and most importantly, it looked amazing. Thank you!

Uncommon Closet did a phenomenal job on my wedding dress for our Icelandic elopement. Read on if you want the details. If not, just stop right here and trust me when I say YOU NEED TO GO TO UNCOMMON CLOSET. When we decided to elope in Iceland, we planned to have our ceremony on the Black Sands beach and hike to various spots for some oh-so dramatic photos. This meant we'd be hiking 8 miles and be out for a 10 hour day all dressed up. After looking at hundreds of photos from other couples, I decided that I wanted a black lace dress. I found this gorgeous black lace wedding dress in photos and soon learned it was a $7k designer dress. That was ummm...way the hella outta my price range. But thanks to the interwebs' deep offerings of finding images, I found an overseas website that claimed to make a knock off for a very deep discount...as in the dress cost $300. As you could imagine, I was highly skeptical. I ordered the dress using their standard sizing that aligned with my measurements and crossed my fingers that I wasn't getting scammed. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the dress had good bones, but it needed some luvin' to make it last a day of hiking in unpredictable Icelandic weather. And this is where you, my dear Yelpers, come into play. Thanks to all your wonderful feedback on Uncommon Closet, I was able to confidently pick them. Nope, I did not run out to 10 different tailor shops looking for estimates. I was on a time crunch, and I needed a solid tailor who could execute. I had 4 basic requirements, but the team at Uncommon Closet saw beyond my requirements and envisioned the bigger picture. Here's what they did for me: 1. Swapped out the lace up back for a zipper and brought the dress in at the waist and chest 2. Hemmed the dress, which included removing some lace detailing at the bottom, hemming the dress, then reattaching the lace detailing. 3. Replaced the crappy boob cups with much better ones 4. Created a train on the dress 5. Created a bustle so that I could button up the dress train for hiking 6. Created hiking straps so that I could hold the dress up over my arms while hiking, kinda like carrying a handbag slung over your forearm 7. Added silicone straps to the shoulders so that the dress wouldn't slip off my shoulders 8. Took out a layer of crinoline so that the dress laid nicely 9. Added armpit gussets to make it easier to move my arms They partnered with me to create a fabulous dress that was precisely what I was trying to achieve. They went above and beyond my basic tailoring requirements and talked me through what a wedding dress should be and how they envisioned me moving in it. (For your full understanding of how this went, I'm including the original picture I sent to Uncommon Closet with my basic notes of what I wanted done.) What really blew my mind was their suggestion of creating the hiking straps for the dress. They had been listening to me each time I came in for fittings, and they thought through what the heck it would be like having to huff 8 miles over 10 hours in that dress. I cannot tell you how much I deeply appreciate all the work that Korri, Greta and Ash did to make me feel like a million bucks. Finally, while ability to execute was my primary requirement, I also chose them because I wanted to support a LGBTQ+ business that pays fair wages. I can't tell you whether the price I paid was expensive for the tailoring; however, the price I paid was worth the partnership they forged with me and the beautiful quality I got.

Uncommon Closet exceeded my expectations The team has such great energy - it's lovely being in their space! They were flexible with my schedule and did an incredible job on my wedding dress - it fit me perfectly and I felt confident on my special day thank you again!

When I received my bridesmaid dress from Azazie 4 months after placing my order, I was disappointed that the dress wouldn't zip up all the way (quarantine weight I guess...). I had 4 weeks to get the dress fixed. I found Uncommon Closet via Yelp, and submitted images to get a quote. They responded within half an hour, which was great. I had an idea to create a lower back and end the zipper lower instead of letting out the dress, and they said they could probably do it. When I went in for the first time, I was out within 15 minutes. I left knowing my dress was in capable hands and was eager to see how it would turn out. Long story short, it turned out exactly how I pictured! The price wasn't the lowest, but it was reasonable for the work done and I'm happy to support a company like Uncommon Closet that provides a resource for the LGBTQIA+ community and those with differing body types. I can't say thank you enough!

LOOK NO FURTHER! You have found a tailor who will make you FEEL great with their positive environment and inclusive language AND make you LOOK great with their expert tailoring and style suggestions. I am so grateful to have worked with Korri and team, 100% worth the 5 hr drive from Minneapolis. Korri was able to provide so much guidance in what style choices are traditionally more masculine, what cuts would hide my insecurities, and offered different ways to customize my suit to make it even more special. But I will let these sick photos of my velvet green suit speak for themselves.

My fiancé and I decided to elope during Covid rather than wait out the uncertainty. I reached out to Korri and she was so helpful in getting me in quickly to make alterations to my dress. When I got off the phone with her I felt very comfortable about the extra safety precautions they were taking and I knew exactly what I needed to bring with me to the fitting. When I arrived, I was instantly put at ease by Korri's friendly and genuine personality. The shop is small but comfortable and inviting...it has a very bespoke feel. Her attention to detail was impressive...you can really tell she is good at what she does. She is conversational while at the same time asks questions to be sure she understands exactly what you'd like done. I left feeling completely confident my dress was in the right hands. It was a huge weight off my shoulders! What I loved most about Uncommon Closet is that I could tell Korri would have treated me exactly the same whether my dress was $15000.00 or a $150.00. The signage and aesthetic makes it clear that all are welcome, but the way I was treated made me leave feeling my business was valued and appreciated. This hidden gem will be getting all of my future business. I'm very grateful that I found Korri at Uncommon Closet and highly recommend the services!

I have some old fabric body heaters that were made several years ago. They are filled w/ flax & sewn together in long pieces of material to microwave for injuries, cramps, etc. I'm looking for a few more. Is this something you'd be interested in?

Since then, I've hired Katie 4 times... that's how much I love working with her. The first 2 times were to redesign my wardrobe. I travel a lot and I only wanted clothes I LOVED in my suitcase. The outfits she put together were so good that I ended up doing photo shoots in them lol. Katie gave me vocabulary to explain my personal style and now that I'm clear on it, I get non-stop compliments on how I look. The 3rd time was to help my boyfriend (a musician and high school teacher) redesign his look. Working with Katie has impacted him so profoundly. I now have an effortless wardrobe from a judgement free, positive, and professional point of view. She made it fun, educational, and custom to what I was looking for with no salesy approach. I had always wanted to go through a process like this and now it's a no brainer to build in regular check-ins with Lora to adjust my wardrobe to my style as it grows. Really priceless to always be confident in how I present myself.

A few years ago we had my daughter's bat mitzvah and I found the most difficult task of the weekend was coordinating all the wardrobes for the entire family. And finding a dress for myself when the department stores carry so little these days was impossible. And now my son's is coming up and the thought of doing it all again was daunting! I decided what we needed was a personal stylist and I turned to Yelp for help. I came across these glowing reviews for Lora and emailed her right away. She wrote back within minutes and being someone who really values responsiveness I loved her immediately. We set up a call to go over all the details. Our initial call involved me telling her about all the weekend events, what the kids wanted to wear/not wear (my 14 year old daughter can be especially particular) and describing what the decor of the party would look like. I followed up with pictures of what we wore a few years ago to my daughter's bat mitzvah, as well as sample decor for my son's upcoming bar mitzvah. Lora sent me all the info for her pricing, which seemed fair and well worth it. To be fair I would probably spend more shipping back returns since many of these stores (ahem saks) don't do returns for free these days. We then set up a day for her to come style the entire family, but decided she would start with me...and then we could figure out everyone else's outfits around mine. Styling day arrived and Lora showed up with suitcases filled of beautiful clothes. She nicely kicked me out of my room and set them all up. There were a lot of clothes and accessories (shoes, jewelry, pocket squares, etc), but again this was for 3 events for a family of 5. She had some beautiful dresses for me, but there were 3 very clear winners: one for the friday night dinner, one for the service and another for the party. All were dresses I likely wouldn't have picked out myself and she helped me figure out what the service dress would look like once my seamstress was able to shorten it to the perfect length. We also decided the party dress would be better at midi length. While I took the longest, I was one of her easier clients because then she met my husband who hates nothing more than trying on clothes. Fortunately, she had it all laid out for him to make it as easy as possible, but he did his fair share of grunting as he tried on one outfit after another. And my daughter was even more difficult. The first party dress she tried on couldn't have been more perfect, but wasn't what she had in her mind originally so it took a few weeks of trying on more dresses (that I bought on my own) before she admitted that one of Lora's picks really was perfect. My boys were pretty easy, but are in major growth spurt mode so she needed to send clothes in different sizes. One of the best things about Lora is that she does all the returns for you, which saves a lot of time. Lora took pics of everything before she left and a week after sent me a lookbook for each outfit, which will be so helpful when I'm organizing everything for the big weekend. She also send me links for everything else we needed for the big day (ex: clutch for me, suits in bigger sizes for my boys, etc). And thanks to Lora I think every member of my family has outfits, shoes AND accessories for all 3 events that weekend. I can't wait to post pics of it all after the big weekend and I'm even more excited to do a everyday styling session with Lora after the bar mitzvah is done. She also does closet organization so can't wait to use her for that as well!

What sets Jennifer apart is her ability to understand not only what looks good on someone, but also how they live, what they're comfortable wearing, and how they want to present themselves. She takes the time to learn your preferences and then introduces options you may never have considered on your own while still making sure everything feels authentic and wearable. During our most recent experience, Jennifer helped me build a cohesive spring and summer wardrobe that was both versatile and practical. She also guided me through selecting eyeglass frames as an accessory, something I had never paid much attention to before. I was surprised by how much of a difference the right frames can make, and her recommendations helped me find options that complemented both my features and personal style. Another highlight was being introduced to the custom tailoring process. Jennifer coordinated the experience and helped guide decisions on fabrics, fit, and details that I would have otherwise felt overwhelmed by. The end result was clothing that fit exceptionally well and gave me a much better understanding of the difference that proper tailoring can make. Perhaps the biggest benefit of working with Jennifer is the confidence and simplicity she brings to getting dressed. My wardrobe is more organized, pieces work together seamlessly, and the look book she created has made my life incredibly easy. The shopping process itself is also incredibly efficient because everything is planned with purpose. Jennifer is knowledgeable, personable, honest, and genuinely invested in helping her clients look and feel their best. Whether you're looking for a complete wardrobe overhaul, seasonal updates, styling advice, custom clothing, or help refining the details that pull everything together, I would highly recommend working with her.

After a few years working from home and getting lazy about my wardrobe, I needed a reset and am thankful I found Jennifer to help. She helped me quickly get to the core of what I was looking for via a short phone consultation and an afternoon trying on clothes in store. She has the process completely down, with attention to making it efficient and smooth running. Buying a bunch of clothes in one go is a sticker shock but knowing I don't have to spend hours shopping on my own, where I'd inevitably end up with clothes that are just "OK" or sloppy looking makes it completely worth the investment. I love the outcome and would not hesitate to recommend her!

Color analysis: While I knew my colors, this was the first time I really got to see the effect of having a complimentary color near my face vs one that doesn't work. Once I saw how the wrong colors highlighted every shadow, wrinkle and blemish I vowed right then and there to NEVER wear an unflattering hue. I would have never tried a bright orange without Sophy but now I have a new favorite color! Body analysis: This was really hard but Sophy is so kind, encouraging and understanding while offering a very analytical way to look at my body, and showing me dress to hide the "flaws" and how to flaunt the good stuff. I now have a much better idea of what I need to look for when shopping, and I got a handy reference guide in case I ever need a reminder. She literally helped me and my entrepreneurial spirit come back to life (because COVID isolation and yoga pants everyday are real). The photos turned out amazing, thanks to the work Annie put in to listen to my vision and execute it through the most fun, glamorous, yet practical and comfortable outfits. She was professional, so easy (and fun) to work with, efficient with time/while still being creative, and she made me feel a) so comfortable and b) SO ME and beautiful in clothing I wouldn't normally pick myself, that I decided to keep! Her attention to little details on posture, putting the finishing touches on my outfits and hair flyaways, made the shoot seamless. Thank you, Annie! So grateful for you!

But when it comes to vintage shopping and finding good deals sometimes I need some help and I didn't realize just how much help I needed until I met the oh so fashionable Tristin M (http://www.yelp.com/user_details?userid=VwNovCZaYKaiKIMiUcFl4A). When I first met Tristin a few weeks ago I found myself admiring her adorable vintage dress and cool accessories...where could I find an outfit like that? And before I knew it Tristin was in my closet and joining me on shopping trips. Tristin is a wardrobe stylist (I believe that's the proper term for it) and based on her AMAZING sense of style she couldn't have a job more perfect for her! I believe her prices vary with what you hire for, but it seems to be about $60 an hour...and boy is she worth it! Tristin started off in my closet last week helping me organize a bit...I was ready to donate the old stuff I don't wear anymore, but half of the stuff I was about to put into the trash bag Tristin would pair it with a cute tunic in my closet or something else that I would never dream of and all of a sudden I had all these new outfits! She even pulled out the scissors and started cutting shirts (with my approval of course) to turn them into something cool and trendy again. I love this girl! After deciding what I needed for fall (actually I really don't need anything...more like WANT for fall) Tristin and I made our way to a bunch of thrift shops on Milwaukee. I typically stay away from thrift stores because I don't even know where to start, but that's just because I've never had Tristin at my side. She found the cutest things on those racks and at the BEST prices...seriously, I brought home a marc jacobs jacket for $40! I had given Tristin a budget ahead of time and she really did a great job of staying within it...I was about to grab a cute camisole for $50 at one of our non thrift store shops, Free People, but she quickly reminded me that I didn't need it and we could find a comparable camisole for much less...and here I was thinking it was a great deal! Who knew that paying a wardrobe stylist would actually save money??? I walked away with some great clothes today for my fall wardrobe and can't wait to go shopping with Tristin again! Tristin's web site is currently in the works, but if you want some wardrobe tips of your own email her here: christine@tristinstyling.com

I called all the local Gucci boutiques here in Southern California, but the sales associate won't divulge any information. I was getting frustrated because I know shoppers from the east coast are able to get their orders in. I contacted Christine asking if she knows whether her local Gucci has started the sale. Christine responded quickly telling me that she will find out. Note that this was after 9pm pacific, so it was really late for her, but she responded anyways! The next day, she texted me confirming that the sale has started, so I sent her pics of items I want. Christine did not waste any time, she went to the store and got the items I was dying to get! Thank you so much for getting the items that I wanted! If you are looking for a remote personal shopper - Christine is your gal! She is fast, efficient, and communicates effectively! I have nothing but praises for the quality of service she provided. 5 stars!!!
