The Uncommon closet was the perfect place to take my wedding dress in! I bought my dress on extreme discount from David's Bridal, with the catch that it was 3 sizes too big. Not only did their tailors make it fit, but they made adjustments to compliment my body type and make me feel beautiful in this dress. They were very friendly, affordable (with payment plans available), and responsive. Highly recommend!

    My perfect dress!

I had the most incredible experience here. I was getting married and needed alterations to my dress. I got quotes for the cost of my dress and then some. I understand time, I knowledge and effort. However, the word wedding has a very pricey markup. Well that didn't apply here. I had my dress turned into my dream dress for my elopement. They even made me a mask and my now husband a pocket square for his suit. I felt like a true princess when I went into the shop. I'm so happy I found this shop!

I loved working with Uncommon Closet for my wedding dress alterations and customization. When I bought my wedding dress, I did so knowing that it needed some work to align with my vision. As a plus-sized person, it was really important to me that I find a judgment-free, welcoming place to do my alterations. It was also important for my wedding to primarily support locally-owned, BIPOC, and/or queer-owned businesses. Enter Uncommon Closet. Korri and Ian were so helpful and professional and had a kind energy that made me feel so safe for every fitting. Aside from their energy, Uncommon Closet's work is so careful and meticulous. Ian handled the extensive alterations to my wedding dress (including building an entirely new illusion top and back to my dress, adding in a corset back, and hemming several layers of sparkly tulle) so carefully. I got so many compliments on how my dress fit and how beautiful I looked. I do recommend folks with wedding outfits to reach out about alterations EARLY since this is a small business and they are so in-demand. Thank you Uncommon Closet :)

My wife and I got tailor-made outfits for our wedding on 2-2-24 through Uncommon Closet. We both just had ideas in our heads of what we would like the outfits to look like, but no pictures to back up our vision. We went in with separate appointments with the intent of surprising each other the day of the event with our outfits. The team at Uncommon Closet was so professional and encouraging. They showed me samples and gave me a choice in all the details to have the suit built to my exact vision. They catered it to my exact size, and when I had a fitting in which my suit pants didn't fit exactly right, they completely redid them to ensure they were perfect. The result was absolute perfection for my wife and I. Please note that if you want an outfit made, please give plenty of time. They are very busy and need planning to make the results just what you like.

Uncommon Closet tailored my wedding jumpsuit (major revisions including taking it from wide-leg to narrow leg ) and skirt (hemming 12-ish layers of tulle). I had a great experience here - scheduling was easy, everything was done on-time, people were friendly, and most importantly, it looked amazing. Thank you!

Uncommon Closet did a phenomenal job on my wedding dress for our Icelandic elopement. Read on if you want the details. If not, just stop right here and trust me when I say YOU NEED TO GO TO UNCOMMON CLOSET. When we decided to elope in Iceland, we planned to have our ceremony on the Black Sands beach and hike to various spots for some oh-so dramatic photos. This meant we'd be hiking 8 miles and be out for a 10 hour day all dressed up. After looking at hundreds of photos from other couples, I decided that I wanted a black lace dress. I found this gorgeous black lace wedding dress in photos and soon learned it was a $7k designer dress. That was ummm...way the hella outta my price range. But thanks to the interwebs' deep offerings of finding images, I found an overseas website that claimed to make a knock off for a very deep discount...as in the dress cost $300. As you could imagine, I was highly skeptical. I ordered the dress using their standard sizing that aligned with my measurements and crossed my fingers that I wasn't getting scammed. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the dress had good bones, but it needed some luvin' to make it last a day of hiking in unpredictable Icelandic weather. And this is where you, my dear Yelpers, come into play. Thanks to all your wonderful feedback on Uncommon Closet, I was able to confidently pick them. Nope, I did not run out to 10 different tailor shops looking for estimates. I was on a time crunch, and I needed a solid tailor who could execute. I had 4 basic requirements, but the team at Uncommon Closet saw beyond my requirements and envisioned the bigger picture. Here's what they did for me: 1. Swapped out the lace up back for a zipper and brought the dress in at the waist and chest 2. Hemmed the dress, which included removing some lace detailing at the bottom, hemming the dress, then reattaching the lace detailing. 3. Replaced the crappy boob cups with much better ones 4. Created a train on the dress 5. Created a bustle so that I could button up the dress train for hiking 6. Created hiking straps so that I could hold the dress up over my arms while hiking, kinda like carrying a handbag slung over your forearm 7. Added silicone straps to the shoulders so that the dress wouldn't slip off my shoulders 8. Took out a layer of crinoline so that the dress laid nicely 9. Added armpit gussets to make it easier to move my arms They partnered with me to create a fabulous dress that was precisely what I was trying to achieve. They went above and beyond my basic tailoring requirements and talked me through what a wedding dress should be and how they envisioned me moving in it. (For your full understanding of how this went, I'm including the original picture I sent to Uncommon Closet with my basic notes of what I wanted done.) What really blew my mind was their suggestion of creating the hiking straps for the dress. They had been listening to me each time I came in for fittings, and they thought through what the heck it would be like having to huff 8 miles over 10 hours in that dress. I cannot tell you how much I deeply appreciate all the work that Korri, Greta and Ash did to make me feel like a million bucks. Finally, while ability to execute was my primary requirement, I also chose them because I wanted to support a LGBTQ+ business that pays fair wages. I can't tell you whether the price I paid was expensive for the tailoring; however, the price I paid was worth the partnership they forged with me and the beautiful quality I got.

Uncommon Closet exceeded my expectations The team has such great energy - it's lovely being in their space! They were flexible with my schedule and did an incredible job on my wedding dress - it fit me perfectly and I felt confident on my special day thank you again!

When I received my bridesmaid dress from Azazie 4 months after placing my order, I was disappointed that the dress wouldn't zip up all the way (quarantine weight I guess...). I had 4 weeks to get the dress fixed. I found Uncommon Closet via Yelp, and submitted images to get a quote. They responded within half an hour, which was great. I had an idea to create a lower back and end the zipper lower instead of letting out the dress, and they said they could probably do it. When I went in for the first time, I was out within 15 minutes. I left knowing my dress was in capable hands and was eager to see how it would turn out. Long story short, it turned out exactly how I pictured! The price wasn't the lowest, but it was reasonable for the work done and I'm happy to support a company like Uncommon Closet that provides a resource for the LGBTQIA+ community and those with differing body types. I can't say thank you enough!

LOOK NO FURTHER! You have found a tailor who will make you FEEL great with their positive environment and inclusive language AND make you LOOK great with their expert tailoring and style suggestions. I am so grateful to have worked with Korri and team, 100% worth the 5 hr drive from Minneapolis. Korri was able to provide so much guidance in what style choices are traditionally more masculine, what cuts would hide my insecurities, and offered different ways to customize my suit to make it even more special. But I will let these sick photos of my velvet green suit speak for themselves.

My fiancé and I decided to elope during Covid rather than wait out the uncertainty. I reached out to Korri and she was so helpful in getting me in quickly to make alterations to my dress. When I got off the phone with her I felt very comfortable about the extra safety precautions they were taking and I knew exactly what I needed to bring with me to the fitting. When I arrived, I was instantly put at ease by Korri's friendly and genuine personality. The shop is small but comfortable and inviting...it has a very bespoke feel. Her attention to detail was impressive...you can really tell she is good at what she does. She is conversational while at the same time asks questions to be sure she understands exactly what you'd like done. I left feeling completely confident my dress was in the right hands. It was a huge weight off my shoulders! What I loved most about Uncommon Closet is that I could tell Korri would have treated me exactly the same whether my dress was $15000.00 or a $150.00. The signage and aesthetic makes it clear that all are welcome, but the way I was treated made me leave feeling my business was valued and appreciated. This hidden gem will be getting all of my future business. I'm very grateful that I found Korri at Uncommon Closet and highly recommend the services!

I have some old fabric body heaters that were made several years ago. They are filled w/ flax & sewn together in long pieces of material to microwave for injuries, cramps, etc. I'm looking for a few more. Is this something you'd be interested in?

I attended the Italian Dinner Party with a couple friends as a Friday night outing. I'll preface…read moremy review by saying that I had certain expectations given that I'd been to a couple cooking classes at the Chopping Block. The class/party was three hours long (6:30 - 9:30). The first portion of the event is time to just drink and socialize (Bespoke is BYOB) while indulging in the fruit and cheese that's provided. The actual cooking started around 7:15. We were split into four groups with one group working on salad, one on appetizers, one on entree and one on dessert. Because of my experience with other cooking classes, I was definitely under the impression that we'd be given the opportunity to learn and cook all items on the menu so being the wanna-be chef that I am, I was a little off put when I realized that I'd only get to cook one course. I think the verbiage on the website is a bit misleading because it is presented as though each group is preparing a multi-course meal, not that each group is preparing a portion of a multi-course meal. Also, i thought the groups were a bit large. There were seven people in our group which I felt made it even harder to truly get the experience cooking the one course we were assigned since responsibilities had to be spread out amongst more people. Now for the good stuff.....I thought the menu was awesome. I actually was more impressed with the Bespoke menu than many of the menus at The Chopping Block. Our menu consisted of arancini stuffed with panchetta, white bean and rosemary bruschetta with cured egg yolk, chicken saltimbocca with creamy polenta and sicilian broccoli, and almond cake with chocolate sauce. The arancini and almond cake were out of this world good. Also, the owners/chefs were super friendly and helpful, but I do feel that the Chopping Block chefs are more knowledgeable....at least from my experience. I'd say if you're looking for a fun night out with friends and you're looking to just let loose and be social while doing a whee bit of cooking this is your spot. It truly is a dinner party (emphasis on party). If you're like me and you're looking to actually up your culinary skills I'd recommend going to a true cooking class, which is not what I'd consider Bespoke to be.

I burned my arm hair off making the stone ground mustard grilled baby lamb chops, but I'm still…read moregiving this experience four stars. Besides keeping hands far away from the incredibly hot grill, following are a few things I learned from the cooking class/meal at Bespoke. You want to get there early if you have your heart set on making a specific dish. If not, you might end up making something less interesting, like the salad. Though each part of the meal is made by a different group, you will get to try all the dishes during the meal and every recipe is later emailed to you. It's BYOB. If you take wine, they will uncork it for you and put a label on the bottle so you don't forget which one is yours. The instructors are knowledgeable, informative, and entertaining. A lot of your experience can depend on the random strangers in your group for the food preparation or sitting next to you during the meal. We were at a table of couples and had some very lively conversation. Though this could be fun to do with a group of friends, part of the experience is getting to know new people. The recipes for our meal were excellent. Even the salad had interesting elements like picked green beans. If you are looking for a cooking class that emphasizes technique, this is not the right one for you. The Bespoke experience is more about a fun time, a good meal, and recipes that you can try later.

He happily suggested a nearby place for alterations, but before I left, he put one of Zeglio's bespoke jackets on me to show me the difference in fit. When I left that day, I knew I wanted to have my wedding tuxedo created by these people. When that day finally came, I called Zeglio's Lakeview location to begin the process. If you're looking for something truly fashionable and want a suit that fits like a glove, go to Josh!

Why are you buying off the rack? Seriously, why? You're not 20 anymore and don't have to look…read moreclueless. jThere's no single thing that can make your clothes look better on you than having made specifically for you. I was in the market for a blazer/sport coat. I tried more jackets than I can count at Masy's, Brooks Brothers, Banana Republic, Nordstrom, small shops, online...I tried everywhere and I found a lot that were ok, fit ok, but there was always a little drawback, even with tailoring. The sleeve length wasn't quite right. The shoulders were a little too tight...or a little too loose. Why won't the lapel lay right. I'm 40 and sick of settling for ok. Well, I never have to settle again. I sat down with Josh and went over style and fabric choices, he really explained a lot of little details that go into a jacket or suit that you wouldn't know unless you were a professional. I had a few unique design ideas of my own and he worked with me to come up with a one of a kind and stylish jacket that fits.like.a.glove. I mean, wow, the fit could not be more ideal. You will not be disappointed because he'll go over every little detail with you until you get exactly what you want, even if you didn't know exactly what you wanted when you came into his shop. The price is very reasonable for what you get too. When I decided to go the made-to-order route, I did a lot of research and Josh charges about 50% less than the bespoke competition (depending on fabric and details). Why spend $300 on an ok jacket with a couple compromises that you then have to spend more money on to tailor when you can spend $500 and look better dressed than every other guy in the room? Why spend $800 for an established designer when you can spend $500 on an up-and-comer who is as talented as the competition and more motivated to make you happy? Just give the guy a call. Just do it. You will can thank me later.
