Absolute horrid experience at this business. I took my daughter to get her dressed altered and we were greeted so coldly. Then, berated because we didn't have an appointment, told, " I don't know what's happening because you're just walking in and we're booked solid." But we could sit and wait until an opening happens. It wasn't so much to words, but the tone and if looks could kill.... the ugly looks we got from the staff. I felt so embarrassed being treated like this in front of other clients, staff, and my family. I'm so disappointed that in 2025, a latino can't walk into an establishment and treated less than. Please, do better...​ in an attempt to save face, somebody from the company will be replying to this post as they did on my Google review claiming that as a Latino employee , this never occurred. ​ if you are a minority , you already know that the first thing that racist people say is that they are not racist because they have friends of that ethnicity or in this case employees . I needed my 2 layer bridesmaid dress hemmed so I was asking around for quotes. I contacted Fit N' Stitches via text and they responded in 5 mins. Their price was 1 layer $45, 2 layers $75 and 3 layers $95. I went with Fit an' Stitches for the alteration although they were a little pricier than other places that gave me quotes because they said the turnaround time would be a couple of days. I brought my dress in on Friday and it was ready for pickup 5 days later on Wednesday. I tried on the dress when I went in to pick it up and it was perfectly hemmed to my size! Amazing work! The team did a fantastic job altering our daughter's wedding dress. Her dress was a bit complicated (in my opinion) as it had boning in the illusion fabric bodice as well as lace and embellishments on the bodice and skirt. Great attention to detail ensured the fit was perfect and they provided great expertise in making small alterations that made a significant improvement in the fit of the dress. In addition they created a beautiful style bustle to highlight the embellishment design on the skirt of the dress. In addition to the wedding dress, they altered my MOB dress and made a few minor tweaks to improve the fit and look of the dress and they altered my husband's suit as well. I was VERY concerned about getting my dress altered. It was several sizes too big, it had very detailed lace and beading and it had a huge train with a tricky bustle. I went in, honestly a little worried that I maybe didn't like my dress any more. Fit N Stitches did the most AMAZING job with my dress. I purchased my dress at Kleinfeld Bridal in New York City. Living in Chicago, I needed a local shop to do my alternations. The dress was ordered way too big, both width and length, at the recommendation of the bridal stylist I worked with. I was distraught and upset that I would need so many alterations to make this dress fit me. The dress is fully beaded making it difficult to take in and shorten in order to keep the integrity of the dress. Let me start by saying I'm a 5'3" girl who loves all things high fashion. Unfortunately, most of these brands don't necessarily cater to my height. But because of Fit N' Stitches, I no longer have to shy away from buying some thing I love! I had two Toteme cashmere winter coats and 2 blazers (crepe and wool) altered to create that perfect oversized but not sloppy look. after getting an initial quote, even though one of my coats required handstitching to complete the alteration, they did not try to charge me last minute. The final products are gorgeous and fit beautifully! All of the original detailing from the original seams was preserved and replicated with handstitching where needed. I have had pants altered here in the past and my husband has had suits and jackets altered here for a European slim fit and all of those things have also been done flawlessly. The team had to completely deconstruct the dress - I didn't even think it would be possible - and so I was researching back up options in a panic. I'm so impressed by the quality and thoroughness of the work. They not only hemmed a complicated lace train but also they took in the hips, waist, and under arms; shortened and put grips on the straps; reshaped and added cups to the bust; and added an internal belt to ensure it stayed at my waist where it should. **********UPDATE: Since receiving a response by the business regarding this review, I would like to point out some things: FIRST) I was rudely interrupted more than once in the interaction, and no excuses should explain that. SECOND) Finalizing the conversation I most definitely was NOT given a quote. No one was trying to figure out the cost for replacement. It was said that it absolutely could NOT be fixed. THIRD) No where in my interaction with this business was I "unsure". FOURTH) The zipper is not "wavy". The coat is bunched up in the photo. I can confirm that laid out flat, the zipper is indeed not "wavy". I can confirm that the new zipper is 100% easy to zip up. It's 2x as durable as the first zipper. FIFTH) The first staff member was visibly embarrassed by her coworkers behavior, and even apologized underneath her breath. The only thing you need to be careful about as a business is lying your way out of some constructive feedback.**************** The zipper on my winter jacket broke, so I was beyond desperate to get it fixed. I had Fit N' Stitches in mind due to some googling research on ratings. I contacted them beforehand, and was told to come on in. Plenty of paid street parking in front. I went around 330pm on a weekday, and didn't have a problem finding parking. It's a smaller shop, but I was still warmly greeted by a staff member. I told her that I am a new customer, I didn't have an appointment, and that I needed to see if my jacket zipper could be fixed with a estimate quote. As the staff member was about to ask me questions about the jacket, we were rudely interrupted by another staff member who said "Are you here to pick up your jacket?" I explained again that I was here to have my jacket looked at, and visibly had my jacket in my hand. The same staff member disregarded my answer and shortly said, "What does it look like?" The initial staff member looked at me and said, "Sorry, we have a lot of winter jackets here". I ignored this awkward miscommunication, and showed her were the zipper fell off and couldn't zip. The same staff member interrupted our conversation AGAIN and said "Is this cotton? What material?" I said "It's down". She looked at me, shook her head and said "How much did you pay for it?" WHAT. So, I explained to her again that I just needed an estimate quote. She said, "Oh, this will probably be $80." I said, "Great, how long will it take?" I feel like the initial staff member was our translator because she said, "No, she was talking about the price of your jacket. I don't know if we can fix it." So, I asked if they could fix it or couldn't fix it. I received a quick "No way, if you find someone who can fix this, I want to meet them." I was looking for that answer in the first place. Just a simple yes or no would do. It felt like I was asking the world of this lady...aaaand guess what, I did get someone to fix it: hassle free. Significant price gouging happening and the alterations are good but not great - felt as though there isn't enough attention to detail on extremely basic alterations which is problematic... Other reviews echo what I felt - the alterations I clearly requested weren't done properly and I was made to feel guilty/wrong for asking that they be redone. There's a framed statement in the dressing room saying they're 100% committed to working until the alterations are done correctly, but that's not to say they won't make you feel bad about it in the process. Ha. My family had been long time customers and I previously enthusiastically recommended this place but this is the end of the road for us with fit n stiches and I'll be strongly advising friends to go elsewhere. Based on the consistently poor reviews of this location, no one should bother coming here. This place is a disaster, read other reviews for confirmation aside from mine, I wish I trusted my instict not to go here. This was the most painful experience I have had in a long time. I am standing up in two wedding this summer and I brought my dresses in to get tailored. I found the environment to be dirty and dusty and the service to pair with the poorly kept space. The cost to get two dresses hemmed 1 inch was outrageous. (Especially for the poor work that followed). When it came to picking up my dresses I received both dresses three inches shorter in the back than the front. Did I miss the memo that high low was back in style, buy backward? I broke down in tears and received very limited sympathy. I had to come back to this sad establishment a third time to get my dress re-altered and shortened three inches in the front. This made the dress come to my ankles. II was told that a "new girl" worked on my dresses. I don't understand how no one reviewed her work or would consider hiring her. How both dresses would have been shortened in the back is baffling. It seemed like no one reviewed their work. After my dresses were altered for the second time, when I went to pick it up, there were stains all over both dresses. Management claimed it was just from the steam, but I steam clothes all the time as a drama teacher for my students plays and this was not steam. There were ten stains on one dress and small spots all over the other. There were handprints also on the side of one of my dresses. After an exhausting day of schlepping to Wicker, I was offered a full refund with tears in my eyes and an empty walled but I deserved to have my clothes dry cleaned and that was not provided. OVERPRICED FOR OK QUALITY, DO NOT STEAM OR PRESS GARMENTS EVEN WHEN ASKED TO DO SO I've had many items altered over the years. I wanted to try a local spot but unfortunately, I would advise against using them. All I needed done was to have a bridesmaids dress hemmed and have the top taken in. The hem was fine but the top had to be fixed a second time. The girl doing the alterations wasn't sure how to fix it and I insisted the top fit even though I was not comfortable with the fit. When I came back the second time, the top was much better. I asked them to steam/press the garment and they told me that they do not have professional equipment to do so. They suggested I take it to a dry cleaners since they don't have the equipment to do so. So now I have to spend extra time and money to finish their job? I've NEVER picked up a garment from alterations where it is not steamed/pressed and ready to be worn. read more

I brought a bridesmaids dress in before a wedding for alterations. I left it at the shop for almost a month and picked it up a week before the big day. The dress hasn't been hemmed and the other alterations that were discussed (and paid for) were either not completed at all or not done correctly. The dress fits exactly as it did before I brought it in. You can still see the folds along the bottom where the hem should have been sewn when measurements were taken. The wedding is out of state and I didn't try the dress on again until I arrived. That's on me. Regardless I've paid for alterations that weren't completed and now I get to pay for them again plus a rush fee to get it done on time. I read the reviews, and I was super concerned about the customer service. I decided to give them a try nonetheless. My experience was very poor. I felt like I was in a melancholy environment the entire time . I had to ask questions the entire time. The only directions which I barely heard was " go in there and put it on". Come on, guide the bride, be present, help me . I had to ask for help with everything, I had to ask what to do, where to go. I felt un-welcomed . I read the owner's responses about them being exhausted etc. I was the only customer and the first there. There is no reason for you to be absent. Great first impression. I texted their telephone number inquiring about minor alterations fon three very different dresses. She gave me a few days and times that same week to come in. When I arrived she saw me right away, was super polite, and very efficient with her time. After going through a lot of yelp reviews and reading about experiences, Fit N' Stitches seemed like they'd be a great. And they were! I called and easily set up an appointment and was in and out very quickly. My dress was chiffon and multi-layered, which I thought would make it difficult to shorten, but they did a great job. Maybe because I gave them more than a month leway, but they were able to get it done sooner than I needed and said that I could try it on at home and come back within 10 days if there were any issues. Helpful, talented, professional. Cons: They are not set up for having more than a few customers in the store at the same time, so it can sometimes get crowded in peak hours. Pros: They do a great job, they care about your concerns and time constraints. They also have a keen eye for identifying the right issue to fix in an ill-fitting garment. My experience: I found a dress I loved and the waist band was too low for me. I have a short torso. I thought that I could just have them take up the straps and it would fall perfectly. When Nadia pinned it, it became clear that a lot more work needed to be done in order to make this dress fit me properly. The cost would likely be as much as the dress was to begin with. She marked all the alterations she would have to make and then advised me to find another dress if I could. If I couldn't, I was to call her and she would start working on the dress. If I did find something, I would just pick up my original dress so I could return it. As it turns out, I found another dress and then two more for other events. I returned the first dress, and had (many fewer and more reasonable) alterations made on the 3 new ones I brought in. They fit like a dream. I really wanted to like this place. First thing I'll say is for me they have been very great about being on time and scheduling appointments. They even as my day neared were adamant I could come back for any last minute alterations (unfortunately I did not have time to do so due to wedding events) I really wanted to give them a 5 star review but unfortunately I cannot. I recently had them alter a wedding dress. At the wedding the whole back busted open when I hugged someone. Luckily I had a wedding guest who worked at a bridal store in their hometown. They immediately commented about how any seamstress would know that they must reinforce the hook on the back and they also should have known to add more hooks because of the low back nature of the dress..I had to be sewn into the dress by this family friend..and missed out on precious wedding time doing this Additionally, the length was perfect at my last fitting..but they didn't press it..I had to do that elsewhere and once it was pressed and the wrinkles came out....It was far too long and dragging. They had assured me over and over again that the bust was just fine..that it looked great...During the event the shoulders were falling and it just wasn't as lovely as it could have been. Maybe I was too nice and didn't nag them enough about things..but I really don't know much about wedding dresses or alterations. I'm still so upset that I lost so much time at my wedding because of something so simple that could have been prevented. Lastly, I will say when I first met with them they were absolutely wonderful...I think something must be happening at the shop for this change to happen. I came here to have my wedding reception dress altered. The dress is a white mini retrofete dress - straps were too long and it was a little big throughout but nothing crazy. I told the seamstresses how I wanted it to look and relied on their expertise as to where to take it in to make it happen, making it clear I didn't want it too tight or too short. When I picked it up, the dress was way too short and too small. I couldn't lift my arms without my butt showing - not comfortable for a dress you plan to change into to GET comfortable and dance in. I kindly reached out and told the store that I needed adjustments because it was far too short and tight. I could not have been treated more rudely. Four employees crowded me when I put it on again making me feel bad for asking for slight adjustments (just so that it covered my butt when I lift my arms to dance). They basically shamed me telling me this is what I asked for and I told them I relied on their expertise and it is just too small for me now. They rolled eyes, and could not have been colder. When they made adjustments and asked if I was pleased, I said yes and they laughed with sarcasm, implying I was being ridiculous. I am an attorney and a small business owner in Chicago - I am level headed and I typically never complain about things. I will never be going back, and to all of the girls who go to a seamstress in hopes that they will make you feel heard and secure in what you're wearing , do not come here. I do not think it's too much to ask for something you'll be wearing on your wedding day, to fit right. Especially when you paid top dollar for the dress AND top dollar for alterations.
