I will be contacting the boutique I bought my dress from to ask them to remove this boutique from their recommended list. Alterations were more than the price of my dress ($1500). Originally I was supposed to have three appointments. I ended up having 8. Why? Because the woman who runs the shop either did not show up or would reschedule last minute. That's not even counting the times she called me to ask if I could come in like midday when I had an appointment for 6pm that had been on the books for months (I work until 5.) The scheduling isn't half as bad as the alterations. My dress - which was beautiful originally, looked like absolute garbage when she was done with it. On my last "fitting" I asked to try it on in the shop and she said no. Great. It was two days before my wedding. Imagine how happy I was when I got home and it bunched up awfully. It looks like crap in all the pictures. It's too big and the torso is too long so the torso/corset looks horrible in all the pictures. I truly considered disputing the charge on my card because my whole expirence at ms couture was atrocious and I did not get what I paid for. Stay far far away. Bonus comment/ two other times when I was in the shop, other women/patrons walked in and said they had appointments just for the manager of the shop to be confused and say no that couldn't be, and send them away. Which is so great when you take time off in the middle of the work day! F*** this place. Do not go here. Ever. read more

I was really upset with my dress. The bustle fell the entire night. I missed half my cocktail hour cause the buttons were so hard to do. Every time I sat down the bustle needed to be redone. They very reluctantly made it shorter than what most brides might want (I had a complete rupture of my achilles and my walk to the aisle was down a flight of stairs and not tripping was far more important than my shoes showing a little) but after some discussion we got it where I needed and wanted it to be. read more

Ms. Tula did excellent work on my gown, and made it fit even better than I thought it would when I bought it! My dress did not require insane alterations (no bustle), but did have to be taken in, and cups and darts needed to be added to the bust. She knew exactly what we wanted to do before we had to ask. I wish I would have taken the critical reviews more seriously. Stella, the daughter was the one working when I went for a consultation, and she is the reason I trusted Ms Couture to alter my wedding dress. After the first appointment, her mother Toula took over and that's where things went downhill. I felt she didn't listen to me at all and was super rude. The straps on my dress were altered way too tightly and the cups they added (they changed them every time I came in which was confusing) made the dress entirely too revealing. I voiced these concerns every time I went in and was assured that they would be fixed by the next appointment. On the day I was going to pick up the dress (the week of my wedding), I called beforehand to tell Toula I wanted to try on the dress before leaving. She said, "you only can if no one else is here." I walked in, Toula asked why I was there and if I was there for a first fitting. Nope - been here 5 times and already paid you almost $1,000. I insisted on trying on my dress and thank god because NOTHING was fixed. In fact, they changed the cups to push up cups so it looked even worse than the last appointment. I started crying in the store and they finally did fix the cups. While this was happening, there was a mother/daughter duo arguing with Stella at the front of the store about another alteration issue. Clearly this is common there. Incredible work by Tula and Stella at Ms. Couture on all my wedding pieces! They are professional, meticulous attention to detail, and so talented with their work. I came to them to get my wedding gown altered after buying it at a sample sale. I have very limited connections in Chicago (this is not home) and relied on the sales associate at the bridal store for recommendations and she connected me to Tula and Stella (Tula had made her wedding dress). Unlike most people who bring family to fittings and dress shopping, I was far away from home with no family near, and Tula and Stella became my girls through this process. They were direct and honest about what worked and what didn't and did not waste time. This approach was exactly what I needed and helped reduce decision overload. Furthermore, they were creative and strategic on how to find solutions to pesky dress issues (they figured out how to create two bustles!), and I felt that I was in great hands during the process, and I could trust their word and their care with my dress. In addition to wedding gown alterations, Stella created a beautiful headpiece from my mom's 80s wedding bouquet. Unlike other places I had reached out to, Stella understood the intentionality and care I wanted to represent with this piece and not only did she recreate a beautiful piece but put so much love and thought to it. Run away from this place. Toula and Stella WILL RUIN YOUR WEDDING DRESS. Seeing what they did to my dress had me in tears on my wedding day. At first, they'll both seem nice, especially Stella. But dont be fooled, they don't know what they're doing. Even after three fittings, the dress I received had parts left completely unsewn. They left a hole along the seam, they sewed on appliques incorrectly. This was after I spent $1200 on custom alterations. $1200!! And by the time I picked up the dress it was the day before my wedding and there was no time to fix it. The worst part is I tried reaching out immediately after the wedding to explain everything that was wrong, showing them photos, and they completely ignored me. They do not care about their clients, they care about getting your money and pushing you out the door. You deserve better for your special day. read more

Save yourself the energy, time, and tears. Planning a wedding is already such a stressful time for a bride. I have learned my lesson of not reading reviews before trusting a business. My initial visit at Ms. Couture gave me an uneasy feeling about this place because that is when I met with Toula. She is very rude, she doesn't listen to your concerns, and she gets angry with you if you voice any opinions. Mind blowing! I couldn't say one word about my dress during the initial consultation. For whatever reason I ended up leaving my dress with Ms. Couture. I left that place feeling so down and nervous about how Toula would butcher my wedding dress. Words can't communicate how appreciative I am of Toula and her wonderful team!! I had originally chosen to do alterations in house at the designer's store, and to my dismay 4 weeks out from the wedding they made some terrible alterations that were irreparable. The dress looked horrible on me and the whole silhouette was ruined. Luckily, they were able to rush order a new dress in at which point I choice to have it altered at Ms. Couture (who also did my sisters wedding gown 5 years ago). Toula literally saved the day! She squeezed me into her schedule and in just over 2 weeks altered a brand new wedding dress to perfection!! I'm going to make a very bold statement. Ms. Couture may just be my best Yelp discovery of the year. Based on the crowds in her store, word is out that this woman can do wonders with a needle and thread. I've brought her several unflattering bridesmaids dresses this season and she's transformed them into something where I feel somewhat comfortable wearing down the aisle. Last week I brought to her an adorable non-bridesmaids dress (it's amazing I even own those this season) with a broken zipper. I was bummed because I wanted to wear it to a party the next day and she promised to fix it for me within 24 hours! And she did...even though she's clearly very busy. I brought in a wedding dress that was over 70 years old that had not been cleaned or preserved and she was able to get it cleaned and made into the skirt of my dreams! I showed them a couple pictures of what I was hoping the dress could become and what they turned the dress into was absolutely perfect- I could not have been happier with the results. My advice- Please be prepared to have multiple appointments to get the garment fit exactly right, this was her working method and I respected that. She did have to push back a few appointments, but I did get what I needed on time. I found Ms. Couture on yelp, and was pleased with Toula's work. She did major alterations on my wedding dress because the boutique from which I bought had me order it 2-3 sizes too large (I'm blaming their sizing chart). She had to take the sequence pattern from the bust area off as she made the cup size of my dress smaller, in addition to taking in material from both sides. She also added bra cups and made a French bustle. All of this came up to ~$550. It was a little pricier than I had hoped for, but I didn't want to give my dress to someone with less experience. She and her staff were very professional, and told me when to expect the second, and final fittings. She also altered a brides maid dress for me (I was in my friend's wedding two weeks later). She took in the sides and added bra cups to a David's Bridal dress, transforming it from a mushroom like dress to a well-fitting sexy cocktail dress. This came up to ~$60. Toula is still the best. She has celeb-like status now in the Chicago bridal world. I met her four years ago when I was walking by and just needed a bridesmaid dress altered. I was so pleased she was able to do my wedding dress this summer. Word got around and Ms Couture helps a high number of brides each year. There are brides in waiting and gowns galore in the shop, and it is part of the fun to see who is wearing what. I didn't want a veil but Toula put one on my head and well - I had to have it. She also made a sparkly belt that took my simple dress to another level. Toula was not a fan of the shoes I planned to wear and encouraged I keep looking. I pressed on and found a much better pair (Toula was right again). My tip is to bring your dress in early, listen to Toula's suggestions - and put your trust in Toula and team. read more

I don't normally write reviews but my experience here was so bad that I felt I needed to since I went to them due to all the great yelp ratings. I brought my bridesmaids dress here to be taken in quite a bit and hemmed. It took 3 visits where each time the dress got worse and worse until it was unwearable. Along the way I was treated to eye rolls and very rude remarks and behavior from toula. At one point she lied about what the original tailoring included in order to say the bubbling in the zipper wasn't her fault. I produced the receipt which disproved this and she immediately changed her story to that the dress was supposed to be that way. On my final visit, the dress was finally to the point of being completely unwearable. Luckily, there were 2 brides in the store with their families who were able to witness the very rude and unprofessional way toula spoke to me and as soon as she left the room they all reassured me that I wasn't imagining it and that the dress was unwearable. I'm not usually good at sticking up for myself in these situations but when she wanted to charge me $90 for ruining my dress, I was dumbfounded. I asked her what the policy was for ruining clothing and toula threw her hands up and said "just take it and get out of here". I'm hoping that another tailor can fix what Ms. Couture has done to my dress otherwise I'll be laying down $300 more dollars for a brand new one and hoping it comes in time for the wedding. One final remark: the younger woman who manned the front desk was very nice and never tried to play it off like something wasn't wrong with the dress. Toula is just the best. She is professional, skilled and really speaks her mind (in a good way). She altered my wedding dress this summer and did really outstanding work. The dress was a simple column silhouette by Monique L'huillier, but was covered in really delicate french lace and had a lace top--one piece--that came up like wide straps and around the neck like a collar, making a keyhole back. I was really worried about the alteration because the whole thing needed to be taken in, and I was worried that the lace overlay and the piece around the collar wouldn't look seamless. Aside from that there was also a small pull in the lace that needed to be repaired and was in a very visible place. I shouldn't have worried at all. Toula made the dress look more beautiful than I could've ever imagined. It fit me like a glove--no weird bunching or anything, even with a boned corset built in--just a beautiful, classic gown with gorgeous lace detail. I was stunned (and felt stunning!). At $500 or so for the work it felt like a steal. The bustle was also beautiful. Simple and elegant, perfect for the dress. I should add that the woman who handles scheduling (I regret that I can't remember her name!) is an angel, and totally saved the day when I called in frantic about whether or not to wear spanx, letting me come in unscheduled to try them on under the dress. I took my wedding dress here for alterations. I had four appointments...first two were fine but on the third I had to wait almost 40 minutes to be seen. I also expressed concern with the progress. They had added cups (even though I told her the store told me the dress was designed to not need a bra or cups), and it made the top look bulky & uneven. She reassured me it wouldn't look like that when she was done & body tape would help. They're the experts so I trusted them but I felt like she wasn't listening to my concerns. My final pick up was scheduled the day before my wedding at noon. Turns out they forgot about my appointment and said the dress wouldn't be ready until the next day (WEDDING DAY). Eventually they told me to come back in two hours. I was staying at a hotel downtown so had to pay for cabs each way and sit in 40+ minutes of traffic. When I called on the way back (2.5 hours later), they told me they needed another 45 minutes. I am generally a pretty calm person and in no way was I a "bridezilla." However at this point, I was furious. They ended up taking off $100 (after a bit of an argument)...which I appreciated. However I was very unhappy with how the dress looked. My exact concerns of the top looking bulky/uneven proved to be valid. It was not smooth like they had reassured me it would be with the cups added. Despite lots of body tape, it would not lay flat. It was a low cut neck & Basically the inside of the neckline was curled up and wouldn't lay flat. It was very uncomfortable and I honestly feel like my very expensive designer dress was ruined. Did it ruin my day? No. (Although like I said before I was much more relaxed than the typical bride). But would I recommend them? Definitely not. read more

I have been meaning to write a review for Toula and her team for so long. I was married in June 2018 and needed some major alterations, essentially taking a size 8 dress down to nearly a size 2. (This is not recommended as it can ruin the integrity and overall look of the design; however it was luckily possible with my dress.) The Ms Couture team took great care to make sure that even in crunch time, my dress was done right. The first thing you need to know going in... she is an old school European woman (Greek I believe) who does Incredible work. My grandmother was an old school Italian woman with seamstress skills, so I got it!!! However, after calling to make an appt I was very hesitant to go in. Over the phone, I had a difficult time making appointments as she has her own way and it was difficult getting my appointment time. My mom was flying in and I needed it on a specific day before she booked her flight and Ms Couture made this a challenge. After figuring that out, we still went. Sometimes I had a Idea of what I wanted done and she would completely disagree, which I appreciated because she knows this stuff and I don't, but it's good to now this in advance. I had a strapless gown and am large chested. My fear in life was always the potential to get a strapless wedding gown and I would spend my evening fearing it falling and constantly be pulling it up, as I had done my whole life OR I would be popping out the top. Well, I found a strapless dress that I just fell in love with on my first time trying on dresses... so the fear was real. Well, thanks to Ms Couture, it fit marvelously and not once did I feel like it was falling down. She added a bra to it that was just right, And I didn't feel like I was popping out either. On one fitting we realized an issue at the cleavage line, and she fixed it perfectly. Also, I am short and with my measurements, the dress we needed to order was WAY too long. I asked to keep some of the trim she cut off and she kept it for me. She altered the length perfectly and I had a cathedral train. They made the bustle, which was hard to accomplish for my maids, but looked beautiful! I highly recommend Ms Couture for wedding gown fittings and probably other dresses. I will not be returning to Ms. Couture. I had purchased a size 0 bridesmaid dress that I didn't fill out on the top, however the body fit fine, and of course the length was too long. When I arrived, there were several girls in the waiting room and she had just finished doing a fitting for a bride. I ended up waiting past my appointment time, which had happened to me there once before. I get in the dress and she decides she's taking it in via the zipper seam in the back, sticks very large cups in the chest, and does the length. Long story short, she took in a size 0 dress, added the giant cups to the chest, and the dress did NOT even come close to fitting me. Two people had to zip me into it on the day of my best friend's wedding and I spent all day trying to breathe let alone do anything else. It was a blessing in disguise because I had thought that I would take my wedding dress there. Thank goodness I had this experience prior, there is no way I'd ever return there, especially not with my wedding dress. read more

There's no doubt that Toula & her staff do great work. My wedding dress turned out beautifully. BUT...I agree with a lot of some of the more negative reviews. Toula can often cop an attitude with you if it's not how SHE envisions the dress or how SHE wants to alter it. There were times during my fittings that I had to insist that certain things be done even thou it was against her opinion. Her assistant even agreed with me & Toula still refused. There were even times I overheard her arguing with other brides or their mothers on how things should be altered. In one instance Toula firmly stated "no, I can do nothing more" & wouldn't even listen to what the customer had to say. They do tend to overbook. You could be waiting to have your fitting for awhile. They also let people try on the dress that are just picking them up & thus bumping your appointment time even more. Saturday's are for first fittings only. If you have issues with not being able to get there on a weekday for additional fittings, find another seamstress. I was initially booked for three fittings & ended up having to come back five times because they didn't complete what they said they would by the next fitting. This was the most frustrating part because the two times were over the hem that they measured the previous time & still did not work on. Like I said, my dress fit & looked perfect but I often wonder if I could have found another seamstress that would have been a little cheaper & had a little more pleasant of an experience. read more

What can I say about Toola? I love her! I brought my bridesmaid dress (for a friend's wedding) and my wedding dress to her. She did wonders! My dresses were ready for pickup on time. Very nicely done. I kept losing weight and Toola kept changing my dress. When I picked it up, she gave me some baklava! Looks like I needed to gain some weight! My train was pretty long and I wanted it to be cut, but Toola convinced me to keep it! She made a pretty French bustle with an amazing number of ribbons to tie under my dress! I have had two excellent experiences with Ms. Couture and am genuinely shocked at so many negative comments! I have never seen the staff be anything but polite and professional both to myself and others while I was there. They are not going to shower you with champagne and rose petals when you arrive but they are excellent at their job and, I think, quite nice! The first time I used their services I had to have a bridesmaid's dress heavily altered. In order to fit my bust I had to order a size much bigger and get the waist tailored from a size 26 to a size 16 and be hemmed. They did an excellent job and you couldn't even tell how much they had to change. The second time was for my wedding dress. They did a beautiful job. My dress fit like a dream and they even did it on an accelerated pace (only 2 months) because we had a short engagement. Bottom line is this - if you want someone who will fawn all over you and offer you empty compliments, I guess look elsewhere. I began my hunt for a seamstress this July, in preparation for my early October wedding. Several good recommendations came in from my friends and family but I went with Ms. Couture. Toula had worked with a set of sisters I'm close to. Both sisters married this year and were each other's maids of honor, so between the both of them, they had four happy experiences working with this shop. I set up my first fitting with Ms. Couture in August. I liked everything about her. Having read all the Yelp reviews before walking in to the shop, I realized any inflections in her voice and tone was purely because English is her second language, plus she does have a snarky side that one should find endearing. She's not trying to be harsh or mean. She deals primarily with stressed out "I need this perfect and I need it as soon as possible" brides, some of which bring their stressed out mothers, or even worse their "We'll get it for you, no matter what!" bridesmaids. I came to all my fittings by myself, so I might have won points just in doing that. My dress was a ridiculously simple alteration. I needed it hemmed and brought in a bit around the waist. Although I didn't want to allow her to do it, I let Toula add bra cups to my built in corset. When I thought about the dress without them I realized I would be essentially showing up to my wedding without a bra, which seemed weird. Toula did all this work fairly quickly for me for under $300. I went to my second and final fitting in late September and walked away with my gown freshly pressed and ready to wear. I should also mention that at the final fitting I brought all my accessories that I had been purchasing over the eight months I planned this affair and put everything on together for the first time there. When Toula saw my lace bolero I picked up from Etsy she demanded I hand it over so she could also press that for me with my dress. I thought that was really sweet of her. It almost felt like I was in my Grandmother's living room again. On my wedding day my dress looked fantastic. I wore it comfortably all night. The new, built-in bra cups did cause a bit of downward slippage solved by the ever so unsexy hike up at the armpits move but I was grateful for the improved cleavage and there's something about hugging your father-in-law-to-be.... let's just say it's good to be wearing undergarments. Trust Ms. Couture. She's a gem. She wants to make you happy. Just remember to breath. You'll be fine and so will your dress. read more

I am not someone who gets a lot of things altered. Mostly because I hate buying something, then having to spend more money on it just to make it fit. However, when I fell in love with a BCBG dress and just HAD to get it for a wedding I was going to, I made an exception. I had asked a couple girlfriends who had to have major magic happen to a few heinous bridesmaid dresses, and this was the place they both suggested...so I knew they were doing something right. I had a dress that needed a minor change to a very visible part. However, I wanted to make sure that I took it somewhere that I knew would understand what I wanted, get it done on time, and not cost me an arm and a leg. Tall order? Not for Ms. Couture. My dress fits perfectly, it looks like I got it right off the rack and didn't need any alterations done, and it was very reasonable. The women who work here are so nice, it is conveniently located by the red line, and the shop is clean and elegant. The only not-so-great thing? You have to have an appointment and they close at 6:00 p.m. That means that I have to leave work early just to make it on time...but for the end result, it was totally worth it. read more

The rave reviews continue to rave. Intensely. Tula (aka Ms. Couture) is simply the best wedding dress (or other fancy gown) seamstress that you can find. Her attention to detail is so refined and she does not settle for anything less than complete perfection. I bought my dress off the rack at Ultimate Bride and it was literally 10 sizes too big (a girl goes a long way for a bargain - errrr). Tula meticulously took in every seam, made a flawless hem and created a perfect bustle with a whopping 19 (!) individually numbered ties. The dress fits perfectly now and looks like it was made especially for me. Truth is, it was pretty much made for me. Hat's off to Tula. Highly recommended. read more
