It's a hard decision to make when you will have to entrust your most special, and likely most expensive, clothing purchase to the right alterations expert. I am so glad that I decided to use Kpoene and her team at Mignonette Bridal to alter my wedding dress. Kpoene is so sweet, affordable, and incredibly knowledgeable when it comes to alterations...she even designs her own dresses! And if you are looking to turn an older dress (one that has sentimental value, perhaps your mom wore it) into a creation all your own, look no further, Kpoene specializes in this too! It really only took one fitting to get my dress right, and it fit like a glove. I only had one minor fitting afterwards to adjust the length a tad more. My wedding dress fit PERFECTLY and I could not have felt more confident and beautiful to walk down that aisle that day! Thank you Kpoene! Before I met Kpoene, I was dreading getting my wedding dress altered. I had a pre-worn dress with intricate lace that was at some parts the right size and at others 3 sizes larger than me. Kpoene tackled a major challenge of bunching that was happening under the bust. She helped lessen it by adding boning, which made the top more structured and somehow also more comfortable. During the wedding I never felt the need to pull my dress up (a feat in and of itself). Also, when the outcome of one fitting wasn't quite right at the bottom of the zipper, she graciously had me come back outside their normal hours so that she and Ariana could make sure it was perfect. Most important to me is that Kpoene made the experience memorable and enjoyable - not just for me, but for my best friend, mom, and sister. I felt that any of my concerns were listened to, and we really had fun throughout. Thank you Kpoene! Having gone through the wedding dress alternation process with friends over the years, my experience was night and day to their mostly stressful encounters. Kpoene is funny, thoughtful, and knowledgeable. I definitely lucked out with Mignonette Bridal. Additional pros: - High value for your dollar. - The store is comfortable and the decor is just perfect (part vintage boutique, part Anthropologie, 100% inviting). - If I hadn't already bought my dress, I would definitely have wanted one of her custom pieces. They are so unique and beautiful! - Kpoene is always on time and it was easy to schedule appointments around my work obligations. - Easy parking and not too far from the Paulina brown stop. read more

Gem alert. Gem alert. Gem alert. Brides-to-be with a vision (or not?), come hither. Kpoene is a pure, utter, lovely, brilliant, undeniable force of genius when it comes to the intricacies of sentimental bridal fashion. Her shop in Roscoe Village is absolutely gorgeous, rustic, charming, beautiful. Sorry, I'm on adjective overload...but I have so much love for this girl and this shop...and the beautiful piece she created for my wedding (will upload photo ASAP!) and indie Chicago-made and produced earrings I scored from her display 2 days before my wedding. Just in the "nick" of time. Here's my story: I love my grandmother. She's adorable. She looked fabulous in her wedding attire 60+ years ago. All lace, trains, high necks, long sleeves...and unfortunately, stored out in the open for the past...oh, 40 years. Unfortunately the dress was not salvageable by any stretch, but a beautiful handmade "crown" she wore had silk petals lined in pearls. I thought, "there might be something we can do with this." And by "we" I mean, "who on earth even DOES this kind of thing?" Luckily on a great tip from my wedding coordinator (Carlene at Naturally Yours Events) I sent a quick email to Kpoene. And 2 weeks before my wedding I met with her, we discussed the vision, she looked at photos of my dress, she asked me about what I wanted to have done, consulted, and quoted me $100 or so (gasp, I really thought it'd be MUCH more!) for what the piece could be...and about a week later I came back to see what had become of grandma's "cap." She also invited me at this time to bring in my dress, try it on with the piece, etc. I thought this was a really kind gesture. Not only did I get to have that "real" wedding dress trying on experience (mine wasn't traditional, obviously)...but she even went so far as to try many different methods with the piece (belt, hair, side, etc) AND sewed cups into my super low-cut dress and put a few stitches in the front so I wasn't "Marilyn Monroe'ing" all over the place at the wedding. She did this for free. She didn't have to. She was sweet and kind and fun and chill. And just wonderful to work with. I ended up also picking up a pair of gorgeous earrings as well to complete the ensemble. She showcases some really great local designers with jewelry, bridal pieces, some art, etc. Such a beyond-pleasant experience...I only wish I was getting married again so I could work with her. She specializes in creating custom gowns, can transform old gowns, hair pieces, bridal is her thing...if you are a bit offbeat, want something special, have an old dusty gown that needs life, alterations...make an appointment. You will not be sorry. She's just simply the best. read more

Kpoene's genius lays in taking the time to understand how every bride wants to feel on their wedding day. Every bride wants to feel beautiful. Some want to feel elegant, some want to feel romantic...I wanted to feel "free." This is the word K wrote and underlined in her notes. This is the quality she invested in my dress. The day before my wedding, she presented me with the most beautifully crafted dress I've ever had the pleasure to wear. It was an eyelet cotton gown with ruffled layers cascading to the ground. In a stroke of genius, the bottom two layers were removable so the dress could become a tea-length party dress. It was the perfect dress for me and for my wedding. When I looked at myself in the mirror, I had to marvel at how beautiful the dress is and how beautiful I felt in it. Kpoene is nothing less that a genie who makes dreams come true. She did that for me. read more

This review is seriously overdue on my part, but I can't even begin to express how grateful I am for the ladies at Mignonette Bridal! Kpoene, Ariana, and the whole team were so wonderful to work with. I stumbled across Mignonette after my mom and I had gone to a number of mainstream bridal salons in Chicago, and I'm so happy we did! From the moment we stepped foot inside Kpoene's beautiful little shop, we felt so welcomed and at ease - Kpoene totally understands how stressful the wedding process can be and did everything she could to make it a fun, relaxing, and stress-free experience. Once I learned that Ariana was also a Beloit College grad, I was sold! Now, onto the dress itself...I tried on several of Kpoene's gorgeous creations that she had in the shop and decided to have a custom gown made based off of one dress I particularly loved. I decided I wanted to use some of the lace from my mom's wedding dress - Kpoene and Ariana were more than willing to accomodate! Throughout the entire process, Kpoene was extremely patient with me - I was pretty indecisive and had endless questions, but I fully put my trust in Mignonette and am so happy I did. The end result was absolutely stunning, fit me perfectly, and turned out being much more reasonably priced than most of the other (non-custom!) dresses I had tried on. I even ended up buying a belt and earrings (also very affordable) which looked perfect with the dress! I continue to get compliments on how beautiful it was I highly, highly recommend Mignonette! Kpoene and her team are true artists - the work speaks for itself. By far one of the best decisions I made in the entire wedding planning process - thank you Kpoene, Ariana, and the rest of the team!! read more

Kpoene and Mignonette are wonderful! My BHLDN dress fit me like a glove and was perfectly tailored to me. Kpoene is never pushy about selling additional services or accessories, but because she is so calm, sweet, and generous, my sister ended up getting her dress altered at Mignonette and I ended up buying all my wedding accessories (veil, earrings) from her as well! Kpoene is always on time, very well-organized with her appointments, and her pricing is very affordable. Highly recommended. You will look and feel like a million bucks and like a princess all in one! read more

I have worked with the ladies of Mignonette on so many occasions this review is long overdue. Kpoene's style is not only timeless but unique and she has an amazing knack for knowing how to fit your perfect vision of your dream dress onto whatever body type you have. As an editorial, wedding, and fashion photographer I have had the opportunity to not only photograph her pieces on models for fashion spreads, but also see them on my real life brides, and for me there is no better designer in the Chicago area period. Details and trim are always perfectly placed, and each dress has the feeling of an heirloom piece that was created just for that girl. If you're looking for a dream dress, a one of a kind piece, or someone who can make the best alterations possible for the dress you already have, you won't find anyone better. read more

Kpoene and all of the ladies at Mignonette were so great. I wanted to find a place that would take my grandma's and mother's wedding dress (they wore the same dress) and turn it into something that I could wear for my wedding. Kpoene was right on my level and helped me to make a headpiece to wear for my wedding day as well as three almost identical purses, one for me, one for my mom and one for my grandmother. She was warm and knew exactly what I wanted and she actually made two different headpieces so I had a choice when I figured out how to wear my hair. The purses both made my mom and grandma cry, in the best way, and even better, the wedding dress is still in dress form and could be cut off into a cocktail dress length if any of my cousins or future children wanted to wear it for something. Thank you! read more

I can't say enough good things about my experience with Kpoene and the team at Mignonette. I hate 99% of wedding dresses and was very intimidated by the idea of finding a wedding dress for myself. Kpoene and her team were incredibly supportive, easy to work with, responsive, professional, and discerning. They helped me find exactly what I wanted, even though I couldn't even articulate what that was, and I felt like a million bucks on my wedding day. I purchased a sample Mignonette dress, had Kpoene and her team do the tailoring, and had them make a custom hair piece out of my mother's veil from my parents' wedding. Everything turned out so beautifully and the process was a breeze. I wholeheartedly recommend Mignonette to any bride. read more

This was the fourth bridal shop I went into, and it was a very negative experience. I made an appointment here because I'd seen they were having a trunk show, and I liked one of the dresses that would be there. When I called to make my appointment, I made sure that they would have the specific gown I was interested in. When my mom and I went in for my appointment, the stylist wasn't familiar with the trunk show gowns so she had to look up which one I had requested. She pulled the gown I wanted to try and we picked a few other Mignonette gowns. She had me try one of Mignonette's gowns first, which was surprisingly small. At other bridal shops, they've put me in a dress that was too big and then clipped it to fit my body perfectly, but at Mignonette the dresses were extremely tight. After the dress was on, the stylist seemed to have forgotten my mom was in the main room. I had to tell her that I wanted to go show my mom the dress, which I thought would have been obvious. When I went to try on the gown that I'd come in for, it was clearly far too small for me (bridal size 4 while I'm probably a bridal size 8). The stylist tried to get it on me anyways, and when it didn't fit she explained that the designer usually only made one dress at a time for models but that I could get it made in my size. Needless to say it wasn't a great feeling. My mom and I left after only 15 minutes. read more

They butchered my dress! I purchased a very intricate and expensive dress for my wedding- it was gorgeous and already fit quite well before took it to the shop. I was assured the shop had altered this dress before and knew what they were doing- they did not. I returned twice for them to fix it and it was better than when I originally picked it up but not at all how it should have been. They tried to take the material in too much and did not do so correctly causing all the material to bunch up and stick out rather than lay flat. They were able to fix the sides but there was a point in the front where the material suck straight out in the front of my dress below my hips... My photographers and many guests came up to me at different points during my wedding trying to adjust it as they thought it was just the lining bunching up only to realize the dress was sewn that way. It was VERY embarrassing! Any side profile photo of me in the dress is terrible because of it and made me very self conscious all night. I'm hoping my photographer will be able to edit it out of the professional photos. If you have an intricate dress - do not go here. read more

I was not a Bridezilla -- in fact, I went out of my way to be almost annoyingly aloof about most traditional wedding worry points. So right off the bat, the fact that I'm reviewing Mignonette says a lot about the caliber of service provided. If you're a like-minded woman, you might pay special attention to this review. If you're a bridal-party-assembling, tablecloth-coordinating type, you're in luck, because Mignonette caters to your high-maintenance type equally well. Just see most reviews below. I emphasize my difference only to highlight the fact that Kpoene is shrewd and intuitive enough to give you the type of experience you want, starting about five minutes into your first fitting. For me, that experience meant efficiency, speed, and value -- all delivered with a touch of soft romanticism. I did have those "aww, lookit me" moments standing in front of the Mignonette mirrors. But mostly, I was a sloppy problem demanding to be solved. About a month before my wedding, I bought a dress a BHLDN that was more than two sizes too big for me (on sale). It was a beautiful bag, and when the salesgirl pinched the fabric at my shoulders, waist, and hips, I said "Yes!" She warned me it would take a ton of alteration and referred me to Kpoene, and she was correct on both counts. Kpoene not only completed the alterations on a pretty tight schedule, but she helped me complete my look (without trying to upsell me anything). She hooked me up with a bustier (even bought it for me!), advised me on Target-brand Spanx, and confirmed that my heels were too big. I felt that her price was extremely fair, and she didn't go past her quote, even when we went to a third fitting (and she bought me that bustier). Logistics aside, Kpoene is simply a fantastic person to have by your side (you know, literally). Even planning a low-key wedding like mine, you'll run into a lot of service providers and vendors who will blow a lot of hot air at you. With Kpoene, you can talk about foodie stuff, the ilfe-paths after an English major, and a lot more -- all while she's orchestrating the best dress experience for you. I owe Kpoene at least a slice of pie, but I hope this review is a start. I hope I never have to do this over again, but if I did -- I'd go Mignonette. read more

I'll keep this quick: Pros: Easy parking Knowledgable staff Amazing detailed work Cons: My very detailed dress (4 layers to be exact) was taken in to a size 6 from a 10. My problem is that I was under the impression that for the $280, the dress would be fitted to my body and not to what $280 would get me. As a disclosure, due to my dress having 4 layers, I completely understood the price I was quoted. I just wish I would have received a courtesy call telling me that it would be a size too big. I was also a little skeptical because proper measurements weren't taken. During my initial fitting, I was pinned up instead of a being measured with tape so I was a bit skeptical it wouldn't fit me to size, but I trusted the process. When I picked up my dress, I was told it would be an additional $168 to take it in more. I wasn't the happiest person walking out, but I didn't have the energy to be combative. read more

I purchased a strapless wedding dress from J Crew and decided I wanted straps added. I also needed the dress taken in and hemmed. I asked my photographer if she had any recommendations and she said Mignonette was the place to go. I emailed Kpoene and we made an appointment for me to bring the dress in and to chat. The store is gorgeous. Exposed brick, wonderful music and lovely accessories and home accents for purchase. Kpoene is a delight to work with. She made tea for my friend and I and looked at my gown and asked about my wedding. I had assumed that if I had straps made, it'd be from some of the material cut off the bottom of the dress once hemmed. Had I gone to anywhere else, this would probably have been the case. But since this is a dress making shop, Kpoene mentioned she had some English net that might be nice. I told her I had just seen her blog from the day before, which showed a dress with English net. I loved it on the blog, so when she said we could possibly use that I was ecstatic. She hemmed and took in the sides and I came in for another fitting. We talked about the straps and did end up using the English net. I took the dress home last night and am so happy with it. The price was wonderful and the work was done perfectly. Had I known about this shop before I purchased my gown, I would have considered having a dress made. I was originally looking everywhere for a tea length dress! But since I already had a dress, I'm very happy Kpoene was willing to do my alterations and build the straps making my dress into something I am truly comfortable in and in the end unique. Don't hesitate to check out this lovely space and the wonderful designer who owns it. read more

I stopped in a few months before my wedding to try on veils - Kpoene' was so fun and sweet and had great recommendations! She told me that I should come back when I had my dress and that she would let me try it on with veils and accessories. My dress ended up arriving only two weeks before the wedding (eek!) but I was able to make a last-minute appointment with Kpoene' and she was so nice and patient with me and my mom while we tried on probably every veil in the shop. She ended up making me a gorgeous Juliet cap veil in only a week AND steamed my dress for me. I also bought an awesome beaded sash belt from her and her prices are totally reasonable for the quality of work that she does. If you just got engaged in Chicago - I would HIGHLY recommend that a visit to Mignonette is the first thing you do. Not only does Kpoene' make beautiful dresses and accessories, but she has awesome connections and recommendations for vendors in Chicago. I found my hair and makeup artists through her and they were wonderful! My friend Lauren is also having a custom dress made from Mignonette and I can't wait to see how it turns out!! read more

I feel so lucky to have found Kpoene and to have had her do the alterations on my wedding dress. I came to her with the dress 3 SIZES too big and she handled the task with such grace. She was responsive, calm and came with a game plan, making me--and I'm sure many other nervous brides in the past-- feel at ease. The dress was quite intricate with layers of lace, beading, and buttons down the back. Kpoene not only made it my size but made its proportions and silhouette accentuate in all the right places. This woman can make miracles happen--even small ones so please be sure to bring all your altering needs her way. You won't regret it! read more

Mignonette - Kpoene's work! - Bridal Near Me - Chicago, Illinois

I love Mignonette! Kpoene is amazing. I live in the suburbs and tried to contact several shops in my area with no success. Either they wouldn't work on my dress because it wasn't purchased at their shop or they wouldn't call me back. I purchased by dress at BHLDN and they were kind enough to send me off with a list of suggested seamstresses. I started to do some research and began reaching out and prepared to wait. I was shocked when Kpoene responded the same day. I booked my appointment and tried to push off the anxiety of what the alterations cost would be. Everyone told me that going to the city would be so much more money. They were wrong, but I'll get to that in a minute. The shop is beautiful. I only ended up needing two fittings, but parking was not an issue either time. When I arrived Kpoene greeted me and my mother and took a look at my dress. She immediately recognized it as the Nicole Miller Dakota gown, which put me at ease. Then she showed me to the changing area. When I came out, she immediately got to work pinning and pulling the dress so that I could see it in a completely form fitting state, which she explained is what most brides prefer for my dress. That's what I wanted too, but she was nice enough to mention that I could save a bit on alterations if I didn't want it as tight. No pressure for unneeded alterations! I couldn't believe it. I did opt for keeping it as form-fitting as possible, but her honesty was what I needed to confirm I made the right decision. A few days after my fitting the alterations contract was sent over. My alterations were quoted at $325. The main issues being taking it in at the sides, I sized up to accommodate a more hourglass figure, and the length (I'm super short and this dress is made for those blessed in the height department). I thought for sure it would be closer to $500. Another plus. When I went to my second fitting I tried on my dress and it was amazing. It felt like it had been made specifically for me. The only issue was that the tulle layer was causing a bit of trouble for me while walking and they immediately fixed that and said I could take my dress home the same day. No need to come back for a third fitting. I can't say enough good things about Mignonette. read more

Everything about Mignonette was a perfect match for what my daughter wanted for her wedding dress. She wanted to wear the same dress that her mother, aunt and grandmother had originally worn 65 years ago. She wanted to revamp this delicate vintage dress and Kpoene did a beautiful job. From first meeting when Kpoene talked to my daughter and really listened and then drew out a design from which to start. There were several fittings, much discussion, but always Kpoene was a knowledgeable professional and knew how to bring my daughter's dream dress come true. I consider myself a good judge of tailoring and dress design as I have been sewing all my life. She also worked with my daughter's somewhat difficult work schedule to get convenient appts setup with her. Kpoene has accessories, too, which my daughter found the perfect earrings and new headpiece for the original veil to wear. read more

Kpoene is amazing! I don't even know where to begin...having a dress made is a truly unique experience and I'm so glad I chose to work with Kpoene. I thought I knew exactly what I wanted but soon realized I needed to talk through my vision, feel different materials, look at colors, see what was flattering on me, etc. Kpoene coached me through the process and created my dream wedding dress. When it was all said and done, it was so much more reasonable to have a dress made, especially considering the typical cost of alterations ($300-$600). I also can't believe the amount of time Kpoene dedicated to working with me to ensure my dress was perfect! read more

Run, don't walk, to get your wedding dress tailored by the lovely team at Migonette! I purchased a J.Crew dress on Ebay, and absolutely fell in love. What I didn't fall in love with were the price estimates from other alteration stores. Sensing my desperation, my now sister-in-law suggested Migonette. The price was reasonable (almost 30-40% less than other stores were quoting me), and Kpoene was like an older sister with how she guided me through the fittings. The team is lovely, the store is cozy and gets you excited for your wedding date. I even added a gorgeous belt to my ensemble- the accessories are wonderful! I wish I had another event to plan just to go back. I didn't get a chance to partake of the custom dresses, but just glancing through the shelves made my heart skip. Act quick! read more

Mignonette gets two very happy thumbs up from this gal. Kpoene recognizes what a big purchase a wedding gown is, the moment that it signifies, and wants to help you have that 'ah ha' moment in the mirror, while letting you have fun in the process! She and her team are talented, helpful, and honest - something I was definitely looking for. I brought in a dress purchased off the rack that I loved, but it was about three sizes too big... getting the intricacies of it to my size would have cost too much. Sensing that it would be out of my budget, Kpoene tracked down the same dress, in the size closest to my own - at a lower price than the original! - which helped lower the overall cost and let me have the dress AND work with her, and I could not be happier! Each fitting session was a perfect mixture of excitement and laid back. The shop is a gorgeous place itself, and I loved bringing my bridesmaids and mom along to the different fittings. Kpoene was fun to play "dress up" with, trying out different accents, veils, and accessories to pull the entire look together, without feeling any pressure to buy anything (but everything is so beautiful, you'll want to!), and suggesting additions to the dress (cups to avoid a bra - yes please!) to make the time wearing it more pleasant. My dress ended up fitting like a dream; comfortable throughout the entire day and night, with a million compliments that could not have happened without Mignonette. And if I hadn't found the right dress so soon? I would have definitely come in to Mignonette for a custom gown! Browsing the shop's available dresses, it is amazing what Kpoene is capable of, and would recommend working with her in any capacity! read more

How did I forget to review Mignonette and Kpoene? I was going through wedding photos recently making wedding albums to give to family as christmas presents and I fell in love with my dress all over again... le sigh. I love that dress. I met with Kpoene and gave her a time frame and budget that would have made other designers of her caliber laugh me out of their cute little shop, but not Kopene. The whole process with her was so enjoyable and easy - I doubt she would say the same of me :) - but in the end I had a beautiful pink wedding dress. I would recommend Kpoene to the moon and back. She's amazing. And her shop has so many beautiful accessories (bought my wedding earings and bracelet here too!) you'll have a hard time not picking up a little extra sumpthin' every time you come in for a fitting. read more

After trying on a million and one dresses that all felt the exactly same, I went to Kpoene at Mignonette for her imaginative genius. I had bought a gown way back for $100, but after tell Kpoene what I imagined myself wearing on my wedding day she was like..."Hm, okay this description of what you want is not at all the dress you bought." Which was totally true! haha. Now looking back I bought the dress hoping I wouldn't have to spend a lot on a gown, but honestly, every penny I paid to create a custom gown with Kpoene was totally worth it. You will look at the pictures forever, even if you just wear the dress once. It was such an exciting process! We first began talking generally about the dress. Ever since the beginning I felt like Kpoene was totally on the same page with me about the look that I wanted. I wanted to feel like a free spirit woodsy girl running through a field (in December....?!). ANYWAY. It began when she took me fabric shopping and I got to touch and feel all the pretty fabrics and laces. It is so cool to see your dream dress come together layer by layer by layer. Kpoene also did an amazing job bending over backwards to give me what I wanted. I wanted a pretty impossible low back/lace sleeve combo that she together with the wonderful Sarah Lowry were able to magically engineer into reality. Listen- if you want to create a one of a kind breathtaking gown, you NEED to come here. You MUST come here. Not just because you will leave totally satisfied with your dream dress, but because you will have the BEST time as well!! Kpoene and Sarah were such a dream to work with (and quite funny, I might add!!). They both worked their absolute tails off for my gown. Sarah also did an unbelievable job making late minute changes that I wanted to the bodice and they were both so so patient with me throughout the process. Kpoene also created for me a custom cap veil with hand detailed lace on the sides (AH SO BREATHTAKING), as well as a handmade beaded sash/belt that really just tied the look altogether. On my wedding day, my dress fit like a glove and I felt TOTALLY myself in it!! I felt absolutely amazing. My dress was not only comfortable, but it was so unbelievably unique and INTERESTING. The closer you got to the dress the more interesting it became!! I wanted to stay in it forever!! I got so many compliments and keep getting asked where I bought it. Also Martin, my now husband, on my wedding day told me, "Lauren I don't usually look at the detail of dress, but look at the craftsmanship! Look at the sash! Look at the lace sleeves!" Haha it was hilarious! I have NEVER heard him talk that way about clothing!!! He was so amazed and said it was the most beautiful wedding dress he had ever seen. Thank you Mignonette for giving me the most beautiful item I have ever or will ever own!! Also the most amazing gown that made my wedding day truly unique! read more

I couldn't have had a better experience with Mignonette Bridal! I bought a strapless lace and tulle dress from a consignment shop and asked them to add a top with sleeves to it. It fit me like a glove and the whole process was absolutely seamless! They completely understood the concept I was going for and gave me EXACTLY what I wanted. Thank you Mignonette! read more

Kpoene and staff did an amazing job altering my dress. The dress fit perfectly and the bustle stayed all night. Highly recommend!

If you want a personalized experience, and a story behind your dress, I would definitely recommend going to Mignonette Bridal! Kpoene incorporated parts of my mother's (1980) wedding dress into my 1920s inspired dress, and it looked beautiful. At my wedding, I loved being able to show my parents' friends (who were guests at their wedding) the parts of the dress that belonged to her (they recognized them). It added meaning to something that you only wear once. I liked how Kpoene included me in decisions about the dress, but did so in a way where I wasn't completely on the spot. She took on the role as the expert (which she was), but encouraged me to have a say in the design. I ended up learning a lot about lace and fabric. I went in for several fittings over the six months it took to complete the dress, and really enjoyed getting to know Kpoene and Anne as friends. -I appreciated how upfront Kpoene was about setting a budget in the beginning, and how she never went beyond that budget. -One of my favorite parts of the dress was the petticoat/lining (?). Even though it wasn't something that showed up in photos, it looked so elegant sticking out from under the dress when I would move around or if I was sitting in a high chair (which I was for the dinner). That kind of attention to detail demonstrated how much pride she took in her work. -A few days before I left for the wedding, we realized that Kpoene hadn't sewn in a piece given to me by a friend. I was ready to just call it a day and head home for the wedding, but she came over to my apartment and sewed it into the dress. She is very dedicated to her clients! I wasn't the kind of person who had a vision for my wedding, or my wedding dress. With Mignonette Bridal, "finding" the dress was so much better than searching for one in a store. I will cherish the memories of walking to her cozy store, often during a snowstorm, and being greeted by her and Anne with a cup of tea, laughs and Billie Holiday. read more

After having a couple of disappointing experiences at other bridal salons (not their fault, more so couldn't find a dress I was excited about and it all felt stressful), I decided to take a leap and visit Mignonette. I am SO glad I did! Kpoene was great to work with - straight-forward, kind, and immediately put me at ease. Not to mention their dresses are beyond gorgeous. I tried on at least three dresses that I loved and ended up purchasing one of their sample gowns. After some small alterations I had my dress with plenty of time before my wedding. Would absolutely recommend Mignonette! read more

Kpoene is a phenomenal designer! She did a custom veil for me and it was perfect! She listened to everything I wanted and provided just that! She also designs gorgeous one of a kind wedding dresses. If you're getting married, I highly recommend visiting Mignonette Bridal! read more

If I could give more stars, I would! I am such a big fan of Mignonette. Mignonette was the last of 4 stops on a long day of dress shopping. Kpoene asked me what I was looking for, and I described all of the things I liked about the dresses I liked earlier in the day - nothing I had come across had ALL of the things I wanted, and I was beginning to think I wouldn't find the dress I was imagining. Minutes later, Kpoene was handing me a dress with all of the details I had described, and with a couple customizations by Kpoene and Ariana, it was my dream dress. Their attention to detail was incredible, making each fitting a breeze and a fun experience. Excited for what's in store for this talented team of ladies! read more

I've delayed posting this for nearly a year, but I feel obligated to report my experience. I had a pretty standard full-length skirt and top from BHLDN that Mignonette had apparently worked with multiple times before. All they had to do was take up the skirt, leaving it a little longer in back, and shorten the straps of the top. Alterations were nonetheless slow and disorganized. Way too much was removed from the skirt, and the layers were cut visibly crooked, with the lining showing under the toile/netting in places. It looked amateur. They appeared not to be taking careful measurements at any fitting; they approximated and asked me to come in again and again. A snag appeared in my silk top while it was with them. Because the final length of the skirt was shorter than I wanted it and the whole process took unnecessarily long, I ended up receiving a discount, but it wasn't enough after all the stress and hassle. (At least, after they asked for an additional fitting, they delivered the finished skirt and top to my door.) I've been reluctant to leave a review because the experience left such a bad taste in my mouth, but I want to spare others possible disappointment. I seriously contemplated buying a new skirt and starting over less than two months before my wedding, but I ultimately decided it wasn't worth it. read more

I feel so ungrateful for not doing this earlier! I ended up choosing one of Kpoene's original designs for my dress, but she went many steps beyond the call. She was amazing and incorporated lace from my mom's veil onto the dress and took the gigantic veil and made it into a lovely, short, and detachable train. She's just the best. And the twirl on that dress was a dancers dream. read more

Kpoene' and her team at Mignonette was amazing to work with for my wedding! I didn't want a traditional, white dress for my wedding and was referred to Mignonette by another one of my vendors. I am so happy for the recommendation! Kpoene' was a fantastic collaborator. She helped me figure out what type of dress I wanted, as well as the colors and other details. Her suggestions for a bit of lace and a blue ribbon around my waist truly made the dress stand out. I recommend anyone looking to create a dress that reflects their personality and tastes to make an appointment with Kpoene and Mignonette. You won't regret it! read more

The ladies at Mignonette (I worked with a few different employees) were all so kind and made me feel beautiful at every fitting. My dress was heavily beaded and therefore not the easiest thing to alter, but they did an absolutely flawless job. The shop is so pretty and, though I didn't buy my gown there, I noticed they have beautiful handmade dresses on display that are definitely worth a look as well! read more

First off, this place fully understands the importance of what they do. Bridal gowns are expensive creatures, and they recognize that leaving something you spent that much money on with some stranger can be scary, so they go out of their way to provide great customer service. I immediately felt comfortable with Kpoene, and she was laid back enough that I didn't feel overwhelmed by that "Squee, Bride!" character that many other vendors will put on. She asked questions about my wedding, what I wanted my gown to look like, and had me try my gown on. At the end of the first fitting, she quoted a price that I thought was ridiculously low but very close to the final price I paid (I expected alterations to be in the $500 ballpark and ended up paying about half that, even though my dress had many layers and intricate details). I was shocked & pleased. My second fitting and final fitting were equally easy peasy, and her excitement matched mine each time (i.e., when I put it on at the final fitting & started really feeling it, she recognized it and matched my level). The decor only contributed to the experience, but what is paramount is the fantastic service and skillful artisans there. They were able to add things as needed and offer recommendations when I was unsure (bra strap holders, bustle, etc.), and Kpoene maintained her easygoing charismatic persona through it all. This is the place to get your dress altered!! read more

I had a great experience here. I bought a BHLDN dress and they were well versed in the style & material. They also had super cute dresses for sale. I needed a down-to-earth place to calm my nerves before my wedding. Kpoene was so awesome and made me feel at home. Easy parking on the street, and great area to go to brunch after your fitting! read more

I highly recommend Mignonette! Everyone is so nice, professional and knowledgeable. They do a great job explaining the alteration process. When I saw my dress for the first time, it didn't even look like they did work on it! That's how great of a job they did! I've been working with Ariana and she's such a sweetheart and so knowledgeable about her craft. read more

I had a tiny (8 person) wedding, but was intent on having a full on gown. I went to about 8 bridal shops & very methodically narrowed down & ranked dresses, but had no strong feelings about any of them. I thought what I wanted was fairly simple: a fitted dress with color & texture, but found myself liking aspects of many dresses and not the whole of anything. I thought I was perhaps destined to be void of the heart flutters I'd read about on wedding blogs. Until I found myself at Mignonette Bridal. Kpoene immediately latched onto my vision, asked a few questions, showed me a few pics, & then drew a dress I could absolutely see myself in. I left the shop excited for the first time & knowing I was on the right path. From then on the process was an incredible one. I enjoyed the collaborative nature of the process & I was in love with the dress before it was even complete. I got so many compliments from absolute strangers the day of, I felt divine & love that my dress is unique. I would absolutely encourage anyone questioning whether the traditional route is for them to get to Mignonette ASAP. read more

Kpoene is wonderful! She did a perfect job on the alterations of my wedding gown. I came to her with a dress 2 sizes too big. She was able to alter it to fit like a glove. She was very prompt in correspondence, affordable, and easy to schedule with (despite her crazy workload). She took the time to show me how to sit in my dress and bustle it to ensure I would be comfortable. Her original work is gorgeous, too! Definitely come to her for your alterations or if you're looking to have a custom gown made. read more

Working with Kpone was a treat. She and her staff are helpful, professional, insanely talented and best of all, bring it with a little snark and edge. I don't ever hope to have to buy another wedding dress, but if I did, I'd take it back to Mignonette in a hot second. Word to the wise: don't be stupid and wait til the last second I get alterations. Get in way early so you can be sure they can take you- they do get busy. Happy wedding'ing! read more
