I read the favorable reviews for this place and stopped by for an alteration. The seams-person wasn't in and I was told to return the next day. I came back the next day. They weren't in at that time either. The owner and I talked about my job and he quoted me and when I told him I appreciate the quote because I would need to return a third time he got unreasonably irritated/mad and motioned me off with his hands and had a very angry look on his face and would not look at me. When I returned for the job a third time, the seams-person was in and when handing the owner cash I added a $5 tip for the worker. Be angrily told me no! I said it was for the worker and placed it on the table. He picked it up and shoved it into my hand and was incredibly sarcastically telling me bye and he shooed me away! It was not only a very unprofessional interaction , but an aggressive one! The kind that ruins your day. Of course, when I went to pick up my item he was over the top nice, knowing how he had treated me before. The job that was done was just okay, not good. The hemline that was altered was uneven. Great service, friendly staff, reliable work, what more can you ask for? Humble little spot across from the bp station. Doesn't look like much from the outside, but the inside is jam packed with dry-cleaned clothes and in progress works. My friend brought her Monique Lhuillier wedding dress to be dry cleaned here due to good reviews. Unfortunately, SOS Cleaners returned the dress even more wrinkled and SNAGGED the silk of the dress in more than six places that are visible to the naked eye when standing 5 feet away! The owner was rude and denied that he was responsible for any of it. Furthermore, he lost the Monique Lhuillier branded garment bag that came with the dress and instead gave a "Davids Bridal" garment bag in return. I understand people mistakes, but this business owner was rude and did not own up to his and his employees mistakes. He should at least have apologized and compensated my friend for ruining her dress and making her more stressed out. read more

The customer service here can't be beat! The store owner, Jason, is a super friendly, cheerful guy who makes an effort to remember your name. The one time an item was not ready when I came to pick it up, he delivered it to my apartment building IN PERSON after the store closed. Did I mention the 20% first time customer discount? I had my mother's wedding dress cleaned here and they were absolutely wonderful. They were really accommodating to my short time frame. We had a very short engagement and a big time crunch once I got the dress back from being altered. The dress looked great and they were very nice to chat with, so I brought it back after the wedding. The dress was pretty dirty from grass and mud stains and dye that transferred from my other wedding dress (a red, Sikh wedding dress). I was worried the red dye wouldn't come out of the white dress. But the dress is back to pristine condition! They seemed very knowledgable and gave a great price. They handled a treasured item with care and I would gladly come back or recommend them to anyone! read more

Jason provides outstanding service. I have never had any issues with my dry cleaning or alterations in the several years I have been going to New SOS Cleaners. In fact, Jason is the only dry cleaner I've gone to who has never tried to overcharge me for my button down shirts simply because I'm not a guy. Most dry cleaners when you bring in button shirts will up-charge you because "these are women's shirts, they take more work - blah blah blah". Never with New SOS Cleaners. I can't believe it's taken me 33 years to go to a dry cleaner & boy did I gave them a run for their money. I had a couple alterations, cleanings & multiple outfits that I was going to throw out because they needed to be fixed (including a completely frayed rain coat) or were too stained to save (dark purple nail polish spilled at a nail salon on my WHITE north face jacket). I figured I would at least try to go in to a cleaners to save these items since they were barely worn, so I was referred to this place. Some stuff we gave up on, but they took on some of the tasks including my nail polish jacket. They told me not to expect anything, but they would try their best. When I came back, all my items were fixed so well that you couldn't tell it was even an issue & THE PURPLE NAIL POLISH was gone!! My jacket was white again! I was amazed! Them alterations were done so well it looked as if they came like that. I even had them clean & shave my peacoat that had my Frenchi's fur on it after traveling. Looked store bought! I did spend a bit of money, but came back with 9 items looking like new for less than the price of a new jacket (about $150). They were very nice & accommodating & you can tell they are passionate about their business. I will definitely be going back more often! read more

I was really excited to get my dress for a black tie wedding altered here after reading the great Yelp reviews, but my experience did not meet expectations at all. There were several issues. First, they said that my dress would be ready in a week, which was fine by me. However, when I went to pick up my dress one day after they said it would be ready, they said it wasn't ready and asked if I could come back the following day. I don't live super close by and I don't have a car, so I would have appreciated a phone call to avoid making an unnecessary trip if it wasn't ready by the specified day/time. This seemed to be a common issue, because it happened to another guy who was picking up altered pants when I was there. Second, I asked for the dress to have the same length all around (just slightly above the ground). When I came back on the following day, the dress was altered to have a trailing hem line (where the back drags on the ground). They thought I had requested the dress to keep the original trailing hemline, but I didn't. It seemed like they went off of memory, rather than writing the request down. They fixed the dress for free, but it meant making another trip to their store and another delay in finishing the dress. If you decide to come here, I'd definitely give yourself plenty of time before you need your clothes to be ready. In the end, I was happy with the end product so I'm giving two stars, but I wouldn't return given the delays and miscommunication that happened. The owners were very nice, but it was a frustrating experience and I found it to be unprofessional. read more

Although we used them for years and were very happy with their services, I can no longer recommend this business. Almost two weeks ago, I dropped off a pair of outdoor furniture cushion covers and asked to have ties sewn onto them. The owner asked me to text him photos of the part of the loveseat the ties would go around. I did so the same day. Then silence. He didn't respond to my texts or calls on his cell when I asked him to confirm he had all the info he needed. The store phone is never answered and there's no voicemail on it. I finally had to take an hour out of a busy day to go over there and ask what was going on. He said he got all my messages but couldn't explain why he didn't answer any. He also said he only answers the store phone if he recognizes the number, which seems like a...good way to drive off potential customers. I finally had to take my cushion covers and leave, starting over with someone else. read more

After a messy break up with our previous dry cleaner (see my review for New Sun Cleaners on Broadway), the man and I discovered New S.O.S. right down the road. The guy who owns this store might be the nicest person I have the pleasure doing business with on a regular basis. He knows my name as soon as I walk in the door. (Maybe that's a sign I should be hitting up the washing machine a little more). And he always gives us special deals. Sometimes if I bring in a women's jacket he only charges me for a women's blouse. While it's probably only a dollar difference, it is those little things that make a big impact on why I chose the vendors and service providers that I do. I saved the best part for last...Sometimes I drive to the cleaners and sometimes I don't. When I drive, the owner brings my clothes out to the car for me and hangs them up. Already above and beyond - but it gets better. When I walk, he takes toilet paper and wraps the wire hangers in toilet paper so that they won't hurt my hands on my way home. I mean, seriously people. Who does that?! read more

This place is great! I've been taking my dry cleaning here for a few years and have had no problems, which is pretty rare for any cleaners. The owner always remembers my name and has my clothes ready in the front when I come to pick them up. My only complaint is that they don't do same-day cleaning, but if it's not a dry cleaning "emergency" I will always come back here. read more

After procrastinating for weeks, we finally took The Darling's pants for alterations. First we went to New Sun, but they told us to come back on Monday when the seamstress was in. What??? So we headed to Choice 2, New S.O.S. So glad we did; all I can say is WOW! The gentleman behind the counter was smiling and courteous, as was the lady behind the sewing machine. They understood exactly what was needed (3 pants, hemmed, 2 with cuffs), including my own unprofessional attempts at pinning. He actually asked us when we needed to pick them up! The pants were ready on time at pick up (7 am), nicely pressed, within plastic, hemming perfect, and the charge was well UNDER what I'd consider reasonable. New S.O.S. also accepts credit cards. He also gave us a 20 percent coupon for the next order. Tip: There's a parking spot right out front w/o a meter which is good for a quick run in, run out. The Darling looked pretty spiffy this morning in his "new" drawers! So, S.O.S., we'll be back. Stellar all around. read more

I have had nothing but excellent service from S.O.S. perfect example of their fantastic skills and excellent customer service: Earlier this year I brought in a sweater and dress shirt that I wore out to NYE which at some point had been stained Red (both on the sweater sleeve as well as through to the dress shirt), this was due to a young lady walking past me on her way out of the bar (being escorted by a bouncer) having vomited on my arm, Vodka Cranberry I believe... with the dress shirt being White and the Sweater being a light blue I figured all was lost, but figured I would give it a try... Sure enough when I went in to pick up my clothes they were spotless, as if nothing had happened, and not only that but he didn't charge me for the second washing it took to get it cleaned... This level of quality and service has continued and as I expect will continue... Highly recommended. read more

I got a dress taken in here (almost a whole size.) They did an incredible job and it took just over a week and a half to do, which is fine because I didn't need the dress till January. My boyfriend had some dress pants hemmed which was done in two days. The dress and pants both look like I purchased them that way. Pricing seemed quite reasonable--$14 for the pants hem and $28 for the dress. And since we were first time customers, they gave us a 20% off dry cleaning coupon. Wow, what a great place! I've never taken clothing in to be altered but I am glad I did! I'm one of those people who has hips but my legs are about average size. So I sometimes need tailoring so that my pants fit correctly. Anywho, I found New SOS Cleaners here on Yelp and decided to give them a chance because they got such great reviews. Needless to say I wasn't disappointed! I took in three pairs of pants, all needing to be tailored (legs taken in), and one hemmed (legs shortened). SOS has a little makeshift fitting area where you go and put on your pants needing to be altered. You then stand on a little platform and this nice lady pins your pants so that you can see how they will look once fixed. This place does alterations in less than a week which is great. Not to mention the price is very reasonable reasonable. I got all of this done for well under $100! So I picked up my pants the following week and was pleasantly surprised to see that they had even sewn on a button that I had been missing for a while. I didn't even mention it when I was dropping my pants off. Awesome! Such wonderful people as well. Very friendly! I had a bad day when I went to pick up my pants and the gentleman who helped me was very caring and thoughtful. He tried to cheer me up which worked. After hopping from one mediocre dry cleaner to the next in the Lakeview area over the past few years, I'm so glad I've finally found New SOS Cleaners. Their customer service is outstanding - besides being incredibly friendly and genuinely kind, the owner helped me carry my clothes from my car into the cleaners, as well as helped me load it back into my car when I came to pick them up. The dry cleaning itself was excellent, and all my items came back spotless. Their wash and fold service is also well worth the price, and they provide reusable laundry bags with your folded clothes. (Another place nearby was going to Charge about DOUBLE) There was a small issue with one of the panels, not their fault, but they corrected it straight away at no extra cost. I went to this place for the first time a couple weeks ago, and will most definitely go back. The service is absolutely outstanding and they took extraordinary care of my items. The owner was about the most attentive dry cleaning operator I've ever experienced. I hadn't been to the dry cleaners in a while, so I had a lot of laundry, including a set of drapes that I needed to have cleaned the same day. Not only did the drapes come back that evening, the owner also game me a discount on all my items since it was my first visit. When I went to pick up the rest of my things, the owner actually carried them out to my car for me! They were able to get candle wax and other stains out of a tablecloth, and even folded the belt of a suit over a special cardboard 'hanger'. VERY highly recommended! read more

I brought in my bridesmaid dress to be steamed, and the man told me it would only take a couple of days. I came back a few days later, and he had forgotten to do it. I felt bad getting mad at this guy. He was SO friendly, and I sincerely think he felt bad for forgetting my dress. Luckily I didn't need it right away, so I wasn't upset at all. He was so apologetic, and not only did he offer me 20% off the next cleaning, but he gave me a discount on the service since he didn't do it on time. This is simply by far the best cleaners & tailoring shop I have ever been to, and that is in Chicago. The owners are super friendly, and really personalize each visit. Today the owner noticed I was yawning a lot and that i hadn't my morning tea, so before I left he gave a small bag of tea for me to enjoy. I regularly take my pants here to be hemmed and their work is superb. I also bring my winter coats and clothes to be dry cleaned and their prices are very reasonable. They also try their best to accommodate request for tailoring. I needed my suit tailored and dry cleaned before I left town for interviews, and I had been sick the week before so I forgot to bring them in before the weekend. Normally tailoring will take a week at the most depending on their orders, but they were able to rush the order and have my suit ready in 2 days with no extra cost. I had not the money to tip, so I gave him a collection of gourmet teas to enjoy. I'm definitely going to miss the shop when I move out of the city, so I try to give them as much business as possible while I can! read more

I came in and the owner was so friendly. I love great customer service! They had me try on my dress and figured out how much they needed to alter. It only cost $38! My boyfriend also got two of his suite dry cleaned and they had a 25% off if you checked in on Yelp. His two suits were only $14 to he dry cleaned! What really gets to me is the fact that after a month of them having my dress, I came in to pick it up and they had not even started on altering it or the other garment I had. I would not have been upset if they had called and asked for an extension, but they did not make any attempt and so I took my garments back. Really, it is just poor customer service in this case. I feel that they looked at me and thought that they could get an extra extension (even though they by far had plenty of time) and it is not cool that you can use the excuse that you had other garmets to do. After hearing that I wanted my garments back, their response was "really?". YES, REALLY. Clearly they did not care about my patronage. read more

It doesn't surprise me one bit that New SOS Cleaners has so many great reviews. Their work and customer service is absolutely wonderful. I visited this dry cleaner for the first time last autumn to have a duvet cleaned, and I've been a loyal customer ever since. They clean and press all of my husband's shirts far better than I could myself, and they are excellent at clothing repairs. (I have not taken anything for altering, but I'm sure they do a fantastic job.) If I bring in a lot of stuff, the owner often offers me a discount and fixes little things for free. I haven't been to any of the other dry cleaners in the area, and at this rate I never will! read more
