Mrs. Hyun has to be one of the kindest people I've ever met. In of itself, it is worth going here over other places just to interact with her and her husband. Beyond this, the work they do is fantastic. I've been going here for years and have always been amazed at what they've been able to alter and clean. I had a skirt that got stuck in a bicycle and was ripped to shreds, and somehow they were able to make it look like new. They've also gotten out so pretty tough stains. It is always reasonably priced, and for Chicago it is extremely reasonably priced. Cannot recommend enough. read more

I used the same dry cleaner for over 15 years. So when they suddenly closed up shop, I wasn't too sure where to go. K&M Cleaners, conveniently located just north of Belmont and Broadway was clean, well-lit, and welcoming. I dropped off a bunch of suits and shirts, and was given a pickup day two days later. When I went back, the woman working there recognized me by name, and had my clothes ready and looking great. Later, I took back a tuxedo whose pants I had torn on the first day I wore them ... her patch and repair work makes it look like it never even happened. Amazing! Anyhow, I have brought in various challenges you wouldn't believe, including today's months old coffee huge spot on a beloved white(?!) Save Ferris (movie) shirt. Yet it emerged spotless!!! I had moved to the neighborhood and hoped I found my dry cleaners. They were so nice and relatively quick. That was until I dropped my favorite light pink cashmere sweater off and it came back covered in dark yellow streaking stains. Bad enough that happened. Then they refused to even TRY to fix it claiming they were "old" stains. I didnt ask for a refund just asked to try to remove and they refused. Made it seem like I obviously dropped off a stained sweater. I always point put stains and usually they put yellow tape on them. I know things happen, but own up and at least try to fix the problem. read more

Really happy with the service here. Have been looking for a new dry cleaner/tailor that's conveniently located. They stitched up a shirt that was honestly a little past it's prime but I wasn't ready to give up on yet--now can last me a few more wears :) they also got some VERY set in stains out of a white dress shirt. In all I paid $17. Not the cheapest place in the area, but I've wasted so much money for little improvement in my clothing. So, for a bit of a higher price point, I'll take it. read more

KM Cleaners is great! I live just around the corner and have been looking for a cleaner since I moved here. They are polite, helpful and accommodating to when you need your dry cleaning picked up. I brought my items in on a Wednesday evening and was able to pick them up Friday morning. Two suites cost just over $20. They have great hours and even if you are at work early or stay late, you can grab yourself your items when needed. Will definitely recommend it to friends! read more

I never used dry cleaning but needed a jersey that was long overdue a cleaning from a concert years ago. The owner was so nice and made it look like it was brand new again! Yeah, not sure why I am reviewing a cleaning store either... except that I live off of the unofficial Broadway cleaners district, where every corner in this area seems to have at least one if not two of these little shops. In fact directly across the street from KM Cleaners is another one, but I forget what it's called already. I'd have forgotten the name of this cleaners if it weren't for the big pink receipt they gave me from the original order form sitting there half-crumpled on my apartment floor. So what can I say? I think I've been to this one twice. I usually go to the one between the Starbucks at Roscoe and the Seven Star convenience store. Again, it's name escapes me, but I do seem to recall that they're closed on Sundays. In any case I am trying to spread around my dry cleaning expenses so everyone can stay in business, and in truth I haven't decided how any of these cleaning and altering shops are any different. They're all pretty good at what they do, they're almost exclusively run by polite minority women, and some only take cash or have minimums on their credit card machine. So I guess three stars would be a "just fine" rating in the dry cleaners world, so why does KM deserve a four? They score extra because of their expert stain-removal tasks. They took out two major stains, one from an old tuxedo shirt that looked like it had been peed on it was so yellow around the collar and shoulders, and the other from a food-stained tie that I couldn't wear because the stain was so noticeable. So from now on I know where to go to get stains out. Their dry cleaning is good too. I asked for low starch and got low starch. Yippee! read more

The time: Saturday - 10am The event in question: Wedding - 1pm I approach the counter at KM Cleaners and the convo went a little something like this: Me: "Ummm, so, I need my dress pressed and steamed." Employee: "Ohhh, sure! When do you need it by?" Me: (glances at clock, nervously) "Oh, you know....20 min? Or ASAP?" Employee: (looks at me and laughs) "How about an hour?" Me: (breathes sigh of relief) "Yes, that would be fantastic!" An hour (and a mani later), I bust into the store and I see my dress, freshly pressed behind the counter. I profusely thank everyone in there and they all smile at me, probably wondering why I procrastinated so long to have my dressed steamed. Oh, and the best part - they only charged me $8! Five stars? For a cleaners? But why? Well, first off, they were recommended to me by a friend as a place that could do some repairs, hemming and, oh, some cleaning. I was feeling adventurous, so I tried them out. They performed all of these services for me, pleasantly, to my level of expectation. I got my clothing back, it did not reek of chemicals, neither did it have all of the color burned out of it nor broken buttons. They got the starch about right, and everything was neatly pressed. (I don't know if they are a "green" drycleaner, but I'm sure someone will set me straight rather quickly) What really got me however, was the hemming. I brought in a pair of jeans to be hemmed and have the original hem put back on. When I tried them on for the seamstress to pin, she, and the woman behind the counter then proceeded to stare at me with a mixture of awe and disbelief and tell me in hushed and reverent tones how much they liked the jeans and how flattering they were, and so on. Again, I repeat, these were just jeans-- I, honestly, not much to look at. Did I fall for this well rehearsed piece of theater. You're damn right I did. To their credit, they did an amazing job with the sewing too. It's a flawless hem. I'm sending them everything and going back for the ego boost. read more

True Story: I walk in because I need some work clothes cleaned in 2 days. The lady behind the counter asks if I am a new customer. "I sure am!" I reply. She then takes my order and gives me 3 30% off coupons being a new customer! WHOA! I always thought coupons were given to bring people - once I was in why did I get some? Because they just rock! (or I do but that is another story). I have used them ever since. A couple of quick facts: * Quick Turnaround and they have always been on time * Prices are very reasonable * They are nice, friendly, and help with extra stains, hems, etc. * Never an issue with pants or shirts (Except sometimes the starch is a bit much so err on the side of less than more) Not really sure what else one needs to know about a Cleaners - ask and I will tell! Hands down this is now my all-around general cleaner now. I recently tested them out with a pair of wool gabardine pants, two jackets, and one coat. Everything came back lovely. There were no over-pressed seams, nor was there the heavy scent of chemicals. This is now my go-to for general cleaning - especially in the neighborhood. The ladies who work there were delightful - friendly and efficient, no attitude. I am not sure about their alterations, but can recommend them as a cleaners 100%. read more

So i got my first job that actually was worth having nice clothes that I didn't want to get eaten up by the washer and dryer, and as much as I've tried, i suck at ironing. I've walked by KM Cleaners a hundred times always see them sewing and dry cleaning away, and thought i'd give them a whirl. I think it went pretty well, a little bit of a language barrier problem, but otherwise, my clothes looked great. I would give them 5 stars, but I think they are a little more expensive than the cleaners across the street, and North on broadway past aldine, and the one near broadway and surf, and well more expensive than all of them, and not once have I seen any coupons. But if they're business is running fine, I guess they don't need to be too competetive. For me, $20/week for dry Cleaning is too rich for my blood. read more

Negative. I popped in here on a whim one morning when the place I normally go to wasn't open yet for some reason. I was really unimpressed by them (counter service is SO. SLOW.), but they gave me a bunch of 30% off coupons so I came back a second time because I'm a sucker for savings. Or just a sucker. And really....if you have to lure customers in and to return by waving coupons in their face, perhaps you should look at why you need to offer them in the first place. Note to self: this is a red flag, not a nice gesture. When I picked my clothes up after my first visit, I asked how much they charge to hem pants. I will be honest in that I don't remember the exact price she quoted me, but it was in the $10 neighborhood because I remember thinking it was in line with what my usual place charges - and she was very quick to tell me the 30% off coupons didn't apply to alterations. When I dropped off another load of dry cleaning and 3 new pairs of pants that needed hemming, I ran into the first issue. Listen, I am an adult who has had short legs for my entire life and has to get every single pair of pants I buy hemmed. I know my frickin' inseam length. So when I told them, "please hem these to 30 inches" they insisted I try them on. No. A) I was already running late to work (to be fair, that was my issue, not theirs) and B) no! I know my inseam, and not one single tailor has ever, ever questioned me or gotten it wrong. It's not hard. So after some going back and forth (and with about 2 seconds left before I asked for them back and went somewhere else), they finally agreed to do them but not before they made a big show out of laying out each pair and marking them with a ruler in front of me and telling me if they did them wrong and I had to bring them back they would charge me again. Um.... okay? Also, thanks for wasting 10 minutes of my morning for a task that has taken about 2 minutes at every other dry cleaner/tailor in the city. Anyhoo, I came back a few days later to pick up my dry cleaning and pants and my bill was mysteriously really high but I was in a hurry and didn't question it. When I got home I pulled out the two tickets they had given me when I dropped off my items - my dry cleaning was only $35, but I was charged $85 for everything. 3 pairs of pants that were only hemmed cost $50? What happened to around $10 a pair? So I called and asked what happened. The woman I spoke to was like, "oh, I ended up having to do XYZ to your pants so I had to charge you $18 for each pair." I have no idea what she did that was so special, but way to rip me off without telling me. When I complained she said she would have the owner call me the next day, but this was going on 3 weeks ago and I'm still waiting for that phone call. In the meantime, I'll go back to my regular place thank you very much. And since the rest of this review is negative, why not: this place also smells. Bad. Other issues aside, not exactly a place I want to take my clothes back to get "cleaned." read more

I have 2 good things to say about this service. 1. I don't go in frequently and usually do a big batch of stuff every few months and the woman still remembers my name. 2. I bought a vintage kimono online for a friends birthday last year. It was silk, from WW2 era. When i got it, while it was flawless in the design and the fabric, it did have some stains and water damage; i was a little upset cuz it was final sale and was told it was "pristine" condition. Where to begin? I called on Friday morning asking about the time it would take and what it would cost to get my comforter cleaned. I was told that if I brought it in before 10am I could have it back same day. Price-wise I was told that it would be $30 if a regular comforter and $59 if it was a down comforter. I was in a hurry so I took my REGULAR comforter and a mattress protector in at 7:15am. Once I got there I was told that there was no way I'd have it back that day and that I'd have to come back Saturday afternoon before 6pm. I was then told that it would be $59. The comforter and mattress protector itself didn't even cost that much. Again, I was in a hurry so I said whatever. I then specified that I have a very serious allergy to most detergents and that I needed them to use something hypoallergenic. The lady told me they only have one kind of detergent and nothing hypoallergenic, and that if I wanted something hypoallergenic I would need to bring in my own detergent. First, I've never heard of a LAUNDRY SERVICE not having hypoallergenic detergent because I know I'm not the first person who has sensitive skin. And second, I took a basket full of clothes to this same shop a year ago and specified the same thing. At that time I was told it was no problem and that they would use hypoallergenic detergent on my clothes. However, when I picked up my clothes my skin itched for weeks. Fast forward to now. I picked up my comforter and my detergent that I had to go back home to get (which I don't even think was used) and my comforter isn't even clean. There are still the same spots from makeup on it that were there before I brought it in. Disappointing overall. read more

I became a customer in 2000 and even though I no longer live in Lakeview I drive past many other dry cleaners to continue going to KM Cleaners. Not only do they provide exceptional cleaning services, they treat me like family. They ask about my children, they ask how I am doing, and they genuinely care about the answers. I am always greeted with a smile and I'm asked when would I like to pick up my clothes. They can be ready in an hour, tomorrow or in a few days based on what I need. I have given them some challenges over the years- all types or stains and materials, treasured tablecloths from my great, great grandmother. I would trust no one else with these items. The best, trust them with your best clothes. They recognize your brands - Ascot Chang, etc. - and take good care of it all, they are the only ones I trust. Excellent tailoring too, they are the only ones I use. I have had shirts ruined by all the neighborhood services I've ever tried but never here, and I've been going about ten years now.
