I was so excited for my appointment! I greeted her with kindness, she told me to take my shoes off and put my dress on. She took a look at my dress and let me know "she can see what she can do and can't make any promises with the bustle". Ok... so took my dress off and start talking about costs. I let her know I would like a quote as I am looking around at a few other places for alterations. She said she didn't feel comfortable giving me a quote then started fishing about costs of other places. I almost walked out, when I went back in and said how am I supposed to know costs if you're not even going to give me a quote; all while she's telling me she will make my dress beautiful. She tells me to fill out a piece of paper then hands me the quote. I walked out feeling so dissatisfied. This was supposed to be a special experience and I left there feeling totally awful about my experience. This was just the most unprofessional experience I have ever had, BRIDES STAY AWAY FROM MS. COUTURE! I would never trust my dress in this ladies hands. Be nice to your customers when you're quoting them 1,200 telling them maybe you can get the job done. I will be contacting the boutique I bought my dress from to ask them to remove this boutique from their recommended list. Alterations were more than the price of my dress ($1500). Originally I was supposed to have three appointments. I ended up having 8. Why? Because the woman who runs the shop either did not show up or would reschedule last minute. That's not even counting the times she called me to ask if I could come in like midday when I had an appointment for 6pm that had been on the books for months (I work until 5.) The scheduling isn't half as bad as the alterations. My dress - which was beautiful originally, looked like absolute garbage when she was done with it. On my last "fitting" I asked to try it on in the shop and she said no. Great. It was two days before my wedding. Imagine how happy I was when I got home and it bunched up awfully. It looks like crap in all the pictures. It's too big and the torso is too long so the torso/corset looks horrible in all the pictures. I truly considered disputing the charge on my card because my whole expirence at ms couture was atrocious and I did not get what I paid for. Stay far far away. Bonus comment/ two other times when I was in the shop, other women/patrons walked in and said they had appointments just for the manager of the shop to be confused and say no that couldn't be, and send them away. Which is so great when you take time off in the middle of the work day! F*** this place. Do not go here. Ever.

After my experience with Mary, I assumed I shared my excitement and love for her work MUCH sooner. Shame on me. Let me start off by saying that I had a short engagement and didn't start planning until three months after being engaged. From the time we locked in a date, venue, & dress, I had six months to get everything finalized. After a quick Google search, it was apparent that Mary is quite literally the best in the industry. I was lucky to have some great vendors along the way, but Mary was definitely in the top 2. I managed to get a slot in after a cancellation she had (same way I got my venue, haha). Thankfully everything worked beautifully with my timeline, and if it didn't, Mary sure made it feel that way. So this is your sign to send her that email and get in ASAP! From the first email to our last conversation in person, Mary detailed every step of the way. She was very detailed in exactly what alterations she was planning on and why. She initially even quoted me higher than she ended up charging me at pickup. I mean...what a delightful surprise that is before the wedding! Mary is also kind, relatable, and professional. I was able to take off and put on my dress with 100's of pins in it and not get pricked once. She takes Covid precautions very seriously so a mask and vaccination card are required (as of 9/3/2022). She also recommends taking lots of pictures and recording the bustle appointment so you don't run into any issues the day-of. I can't say enough great things about Mary and how I could fully trust the process with her. She turned a dress I really liked into a piece that I love and absolutely adore. In the end, it fit like a glove and never did she make me feel like I had to fit a certain criteria to achieve this feeling of adoration on my wedding day. I went in with a wool trench coat that needed a hem, taken in at the waist, and sleeves shortened. She said $150 just for the shoulders to be done, $150 for the hem, and total would be about $500. I had forgotten the price of what the hem was so I asked again, and she changed her mind and she said $200 just for a hem... she changed it from $150 to $200. The coat itself was $270, and it as quoted $500. So I left. I went to another tailor with excellent reviews and she quoted me $80 for all 3 things. Again, I'm sure they would do an amazing job, but I did not like how I was being scammed and this deterred me from ever going back or recommending them to anyone.

At my wife's suggestion I brought three of mine to Zan Atelier to see if they could work. The owner, Nazia, primarily does wedding dress alterations, which is much more complicated than altering my suits, but Nazia was "on it." She has a great eye and immediately recognized the the shoulders were too big, and could be shortened to fit my body better. Altough not inexpensive, she refitted all suits for far less than purchasing one new one. I'm so happy that I've already brought her my old summer linen blazer, and new slacks to alter. I trust her much more than the tailors at department stores. She's a great find.
