I have been in this store in the past but never purchased anything. I returned 2x today for 2 bags they had reduced + 30% off. I had set them down the first time I visited and then hiked it back to the Gold Coast to get them. I browsed the store. It was pretty crowded, but we are still having warm weather in Chicago, as expected. Plus, Glossier opened up next door. They had a freaking line to get in (like a nightclub). I did not get that, honestly. ( I went inside there... I am left confused as to their appeal.) Back to Madewell. I really like their clothing selection, and their pricing was quite decent for the nice quality. The cashier was super friendly and quickly signed me up for their rewards program. I was not greeted when I came in, all of the women working there were too concerned with their own conversations. I received no help until I asked for a dressing room--the stylist was awkward. Awful vibes, awful service, bought a shirt-- but will not be coming back. The workers were rude and unpleasant. read more

recently got back into Madewell and have always enjoyed stopping by this shop. The staff is friendly and always offers to help and the service has typically been very expedient. They usually have a good selection of the latest "new" items that are available on the website so it's nice to be able to check out sizing for fit in person. The shop is always pretty clean and organized as well from my experience. read more

I do not live in the area and I haven't shopped in this store, however, I wanted to write a review and give a shoutout for an associate named Kirsten who helped me with a phone order despite it being close to closing on a Friday night (I'm on the west coast!). Usually when looking for a specific item and calling different stores, a lot of associates can get a bit snappy since it is a hassle, but Kirsten was so SO helpful and eager to help me find the sweater I was looking for! Who doesn't love Madewell? My new favorite thing - my Roadtripper Jeans, size 26.  They're a great fit. They're tight, but they stretch so I don't feel like I can't move. Plus, they were on sale when I bought them which just made them even better!  This is a great location, there are lots of other great stores around it and a Starbucks a block up the street. There are parking garages, but there's also street parking if you manage to find a spot.  The staff at this location was super friendly and really helpful, but not overbearing. read more

I've consistently had great service at the jean bar and really appreciates the sales associates' knowledge of the different rises, cuts, and stretches. The store is well organized and inviting. I love the leather goods selection and monogramming option! I always peek at the jewelry selection too where there is often a sale. J.Crew, if you're reading this--I wish there was more length in the pant inseams. Most are between a 26.5"-30" inseam. A tall pant, with a 30"-32" inseam, is still *very* short on me, a 6' woman. Please add more pants with Tercel stretch. It fits like a dream where the other pants are tight and stiff. It's so difficult to find quality jeans and Madewell almost has it 100% right for me! We visited this particular Madewell while vacationing in Chicago. Upon entering the store my daughter eyes lit up and she began finding cute little things in no time. As we walked through the store she saw a pair of sparkly vans which she wanted to try on. A sales associate soon came over and helped us. The shoes were not in stock in her size so we had to order them. That process went smoothly and she walked out happy. We do have a Madewell here in St. Louis and I will be visiting them soon and I hope to have the same happy experience there to. read more

Love this store and staff is so always so friendly and helpful! It's in a great location also, you can shop around all day. They have a great selection of everything in store and you. You can even have your purchased good monogrammed in store. I've called ahead to see if they had a certain style/size of pants in store and the girl I talked to was so sweet and helpful. There's parking around (meter parking) but if you're in a hurry I recommend getting dropped off. read more

I'm not sure why they make jeans with denim from the Candiani Mill in Italy and ships their product to China for production. The Candiani Mill prides themselves in being sustainable. What's the point of doing business with a sustainable denim manufacturer and shipping the product around the world for un-sustainable production? For the price point of the jeans, and the impact to the environment, it doesn't make any sense to me. I'd like to think that Madewell can do better. I tried to post this review on their webpage and they blocked it since I didn't meet their 'guidelines'. What a shame. read more

In general I prefer sister brand J. Crew's preppy aesthetic to that found at Madewell - what I like to call the disheveled trust fund hipster look. Sometimes there are good sales to be had, and some quirkier/more fun pieces that are good for a season.The cuteness quotient is proportional to what the designer/muse of the season is feeling. I personally was a fan of Madewell when Alexa Chung was designing collections for the brand. The aesthetic now is a bit blander and I always feel it is geared toward a taller, lankier consumer (overalls, anyone?). When I have a coupon or notice a designer collaboration, Madewell tends to pop up on my radar more than it does the other 95% of the time. Service varies at this location so it is best to prepare mentally for utter indifference or over involvement (helicopter selling) on the part of the staff. read more

Let's just get it out of the way that Madewell holds the market share in my closet--it's almost a problem. Madewell's aesthetic and overall brand experience is amazing, but I was particularly blown away by their staff at this location yesterday. I had a problem with a pair of jeans I had purchased there a few months previous. The manager suggested a few causes for the problem, but ultimately took them back for an even exchange. It's rare that a company will stand behind their product so completely, and hats off to the ladies at the Rush location, particularly Robyn, for being so great. read more

I'm a very loyal Madewell customer, and most my friends joke that the only clothes in my closet are Madewell. But, I've consistently had sub par service here. Most recently I was there on a hot Sunday. It had been a long weekend so I had my hair up, no make-up, and in simple denim shorts/tank top. I think my appearance led the floor staff to believe I was not a worthy customer and therefore did not offer any help. I had picked out a bunch of clothes to try on and was struggling holding them while still shopping around. Nobody offered to help me start a dressing room. You would think they would want my business, but I felt straight out of "Pretty Woman". I went home and placed a $300 order of Madewell clothing online based on what I tried on that day so they wouldn't receive the commission sales credit. "Big mistake, Huge." read more

Love this store! They have adorable button downs and unique graphic tees in a style that's comfortable and casual, but also stylish and hip. When they have their extra 20% off sale items, I leave with my wallet empty. The quality of their clothing is great. It's durable, made of really nice material, sized perfectly to be flattering, and very comfortable to wear - which is my number 1 criteria. They have a very simple styling to their bags and shoes, but that's what makes it cool. Another big plus is that they are dog friendly, which is always nice when I'm shopping with my dogs. There are very few places in the city that are actually dog friendly for shopping aside from Bloomingdale's. So I love stopping by here when I'm on one of my walks with my dogs. The staff is really great too. They are attentive, kind, very helpful. Everywhere you turn, there's someone willing to help you find another size or grab another color. I really like that. I've been here several times and have generally had a good experience. The lower rating is for a sales associate named Caterina (sp?). Twice, I have had not so great interactions with her. The first time she told me I had just missed a sale and was 'stupid' for buying full price and missing the sale. I'm not sure why a sales associate would try to discourage anyone from paying full price. The next time, I asked her for help looking for my size of jeans. She looked for two seconds, told me they were out, didn't offer to look in the back and walked away. Another associate checked on me in the fitting room, and I asked her for help with the same jeans. She offered to look in the back, but ended up finding my size in the pile Caterina had looked in. I used to work in retail and I can't believe a sales associate would be so unfriendly and aggressively unhelpful. read more

Madewell is overall my favorite brand. Whoever their head designer is totally knocking it out of the ball park with the current and past seasons. Love every style and look. Price is reasonable but somewhat affordable and the quality... Lets just say it aint forever 21! The customer service at this location is awesome. Even compared to the madewell in LA, the customer service here was phenomenal. Love Madewell like everyone else, but wanted to say the staff here is wonderful. I was in shopping with a girlfriend and my newborn today and everyone was so helpful and lovely. They made sure I never had to carry clothes by promptly putting them in the fitting room and even pushed my stroller into the room for me. This location is WAY better than the one in Old Orchard. For starters, I feel like there is more of a selection. Yes, there are basics but what I like is that it isn't necessarily preppy, like its sister-company, J.Crew. There is a definite city edge to it, which is cool. And the prices for the quality are pretty fair. A bonus is that despite what another reviewer said, they don't just carry their own brand (although that is the majority of what they carry). They have European and American small labels that I am really liking. On the downside, a lot of the Madewell label stuff is made in China, which I try to avoid as much as possible. If you can't find it in the store, they do have a website which also offers a lot of sales. Overall, a really bright, fun place to shop. read more

I decided to go downtown to Madewell (Chicago) to finally purchase the Transport Tote I'd been eyeing for quite sometime. After making the purchase...which was well over $100...I asked the sales associate if I could use the restroom. She said no and directed me to the Starbucks on the corner. I reminded her I just purchased this high quality bag...and was waiting for it to be monogrammed...which is an additional cost!!!!...and if she would allow me to use the facilities as a courtesy, I would appreciate it. She walked me to the back and waited until I was finished. I guess she just wanted to make sure I didn't take anything. Madewell is my favorite clothing store! Though I usually order online because of my busy schedule, I love stopping in the shop. The staff is super friendly and helpful, and they even let me stay 20 minutes past closing. I didn't even know until I left. I also looooove that they will take an old pair of jeans and give you $20 towards a new pair. Your old ones are recycled into insulation. Win/win. I hope to make it I the shop more often! read more

Madewell is J. Crew's grungy, sexy, smart little sister. Of course the clothes are going to be same as everywhere, but I love this store the most. The customer service is beyond amazing and I love to talk high rise/low rise/dark wash/black denim with all the girls. Despite being on Rush Street, everyone is super friendly...even if you don't carry a Louis Vuitton hand bag. I also like the customer service online. All in all, Madewell is an amazing company, so keep that in mind if you're still debating about buying another navy plaid shirt...DO IT, you know you want to. read more

Online they carry sizes xs through xl.In the store they do not carry xl. I need an xl..The assistant manager said they'd waive shipping fees to have an xl shipped to the store.I suppose that is a nice gesture, but it seems unwelcoming not to carry all sizes in the store.I won't shop there. read more
