(Side note: most retailers in the area are open until 8pm). Well for the 1st time ever I was greeted! The greeting "just so you know we are closing in 15 minutes." As I walked thru the store, I was approached by 3 more associates sharing how many minutes they were closing in. The last associate told me that the registers would close in 3 minutes. Honestly you know going into Anthro that you will drop some $$ so I expect better service. I was looking for a specific item, and if anyone would have asked to help me, it would have been a pretty easy 400$. There were about 12 other customers in the store getting the same treatment. They easily had 1200$ in sales that walked out because they were so uncomfortable. I left about 2 minutes before 7pm and they had to unlock the door to let me and other out. Do better. The one star is because the store is always well merchandised and clean.

I usually hit up Bloomingdale's across the street for my fix; this location, with its spacious interiors and vast accessory and shoe sections to complement the delectable wearables, made me realize just what I was missing. As a walk down retail memory lane, Cop Copine (now in the 900 North Shops) used to be in this location. There was only one other customer in the store and the retail experience was what I appreciate the most- attentive without being overbearing. I ended up with a dress for an event in April (originally $600, marked down to $350) and a skirt and top. Unfortunately for me - maybe not so much for my pocketbook - the full skirt that I was eyeing (on full price) was not available in my size. The personalized service and nifty garment bag that folded up and over into shopping-bag proportions all contributed to my good shopping vibes. Word to the wise: the sale will be ending in a matter of days, at which time all the goods will be packed up and shipped off to the warehouse to make way for Spring 2015 goods. I had set them down the first time I visited and then hiked it back to the Gold Coast to get them. I browsed the store. It was pretty crowded, but we are still having warm weather in Chicago, as expected. Plus, Glossier opened up next door. They had a freaking line to get in (like a nightclub). I did not get that, honestly. ( I went inside there... I am left confused as to their appeal.) Back to Madewell. We had a long wait just to get a table, and once we were seated outside, we waited what felt like another 45 minutes for our food. We ordered a burger and the fish platter--both were good, but not memorable enough to justify the wait. The atmosphere is charming, especially if you're able to sit outside, but the overall experience didn't quite live up to the hype. With the long wait for both a table and our meal, I left feeling a little disappointed. I'm glad we gave it a try since it's such an iconic Chicago spot, but I'm not sure it's somewhere I'd rush back to on a future visit.

We visited our first Uniqlo in the West Loop last trip to Chicago, and this time, we swung by this…read morelocation on Michigan Avenue in search of some casual-leisure pants for our trip, and we found a few pair plus some nice shirts...so the trip was successful! I get that my age is not the target market for Uniqlo, but I also know that there are a few nuggets of gold throughout the store relative to casual leisure wear, and after a hunt, I found a few shelves and racks full of pants...and after a quick fitting room visit, I scooped up a few colors of each and made our way to the registers. The store is multi-story, as is most on Michigan Avenue. It is also insanely busy, but given the size and layout, it does not feel overwhelming. The store is laid out well, organized, well kept and clean. You constantly see staff members stocking, fixing, re-hanging, etc... In addition to the clothing, there is a custom embroidery section upstairs. We did not partake, but it was busy and I saw several cool pieces leave the area. Service was the only thing a bit off. The staff were quick, but not engaging or necessarily friendly. While there were lots of people on the floor, they never seemed to engage you unless explicitly requested. No big deal, but noticeable. Overall, I enjoy Uniqlo and this location is a good one!

This is the only location in Chicago that does embroidery. The customization area is confusing and…read morevery disorganized because there isn't any large signage and not enough staffing. The two tablets that are sectioned off to the left are for embroidery only, whereas the other tablets to the right are for printing on shirts and tote bags. You cannot embroider on the smallest fanny pack, only the larger one. Bring the blanks that you want to embroider with you to the counter. On the tablet, you can choose the embroidery patches you want and the placement. You are limited to 3 embroidery patches per bag. When you're finished, click the prompts to the next screen. After you're done on the tablet you can pay for the blanks and the embroidery service at the same time. The person helping me at the embroidery area was so friendly and did a great job answering questions. I placed an order around 3pm on a Saturday and it was ready 24 hours later. Pick up was also disorganized, as there isn't a designated pick up area. You have to go to the tablet area and try to grab the attention of someone working, but they're so busy helping others that it took a while to pick up my bags.
