Grand Master! I was shipped a Size 36 pants by mistake and needed them tailored down to fit my 32 waist. I only had four days to get them tailored, both in the waist and the length. Paul Chang took the time to explain to me what he had to do and to make sure I knew that it was a complicated process. I trusted his expertise and he told me he would have them completed within my timeframe. I picked them up today and they were completed perfectly. The waist fits comfortably and the length was spot on. I was happy with the price he quoted on such short notice, he completed them in three days. They did a decent job on two suits. They only measure one leg when hemming pants - which doesn't account for how you stand or if one leg is slightly shorter than the other. I like a healthy break and didn't get it after repeating it several times. I had a third suit that they had trouble altering for me and after 2 attempts and them telling "it supposed to be that way" I left in frustration. Their attitude of indifference and trying to make me accept a poor fit has cost them a customer. I went there because of their reviews on Yelp, but I won't be back based on my experience. read more

I went to Chang's after being referred by a friend. I am proportionally challenged and the straps on most dresses are too long. I put it on so we could determine how much to take in the straps and Paul rightly pointed out I needed it shortened too. Just a few minutes later I was ready to go and out the door. I picked it up a week later, and it fit well. The downside - he charged me $75 bucks for what I would consider a simple alteration. I recommend you discuss the cost before the fitting even begins. read more

WOW, what can I say. Mr. Chang is as good as it gets. I needed a new suit jacket altered for a large event I was attending and Mr. Chang was there to help. Typically his turn around times are 5-10 days but I paid a little extra and he did it in two days. He literally took the jacket complete apart, had me come in for a final fitting, and rebuilt it....I was blown away. I've never had a store bought suit jacket fit me so perfectly. 100% highly recommend Mr. Chang. read more

I love my new tailor. Paul Chang is a god among tailors. He really knows his stuff. I've taken a few thing to him twice now and he has not disappointed me. He'll have a very informed conversation with you about what you're looking for. And even make some good suggestions on making sure things fit you properly. He's GREAT with sweaters. He took a couple sweaters I had lying around, but had stopped wearing due to ill fit and slimmed them up perfectly. I absolutely LOVE the work he does. They fit me so well, now. I also had him do two pairs of jeans, some chinos, and a hoodie. Everything comes back pristine. He's very reasonably priced - comparable to other tailors in the area. And he delivers his goods ON TIME. Which was a problem I had with going to The Tailor Shop (also downtown on Lasalle) and why I started looking elsewhere to be eventually led to Paul Chang. Paul Chang is a world class tailor. He really does create suits for actors like Tom Hanks. He completely transformed a size 8 blazer into a size 0 blazer. People can't even tell I had the blazer altered to fit my frame. He's also hemmed perfectly a pair of pants with a very complicated cut. I highly recommend him to anyone who is willing to pay the money to ensure their garment is handled correctly. read more

Very good tailor. I've taken three pieces to Paul. I had the pleats taken out of some pants, I had another pair of pants altered to snug it up around the hips and the seat, and I had him tighten up the waist of a suit jacket that was far too big. He did a great job with all of the work I gave him. The pants required extensive alterations, and he charged me for that, but I'm willing to pay for high quality alterations. I highly recommend him, and have no idea what Pat M. is talking about with the "verbal assault." There's one guy who works there who isn't exactly over-flowing with friendliness, but it's really hard to believe that he threatened someone with tailor's shears. This great custom tailor is in the building where I work, and they are a great find. I haven't had anything specifically made, but I have used them for a number of alterations and everything has turned out beautifully! They were even able to re-make one of my favorite pair of pants after I had dropped a few sizes (no, I wasn't trying to be cheap - I just really like those stupid pants!). Everyone who works here is very nice, and I've even had them repair a ripped seam on a pair of pants while I've waited in the dressing room. The prices are a little higher than some other places I've been to, but the quality of their work is so much better that it's well worth it. read more

I just had my measurements taken and made my initial selections for a suit and shirts and could not be happier with the experience Paul and his staff are seasoned professionals His shop is a no nonsense scene with lots of bolts of fabric, some sample jackets and shirt collars, a dressing room, a table, a desk and a small workshop I felt the guidance Paul provided in selecting fabrics (both for the suit and shirts and for the suit lining) , points made about lapel and pocket details are quite value added He is very clear on how his process works (2 fittings thank you) Even with this level of custom work, he is able to offer reasonable turnaround timing I let him know I have a wedding to attend at the end of the summer and he assured me that he could meet the required time frame I am looking forward to the results read more

Poor service. Tailoring not done on time and did not complete job as stated, yet would not adjust pricing to reflect.

My wife and I have used Paul Chang Tailors for many many years. Usually to have new jeans re-hemmed to the correct lengths. We recently brought in two pairs of jeans for this purpose as well as a blouse that needed a fix. I was told they would be ready in 10 days. After two weeks my wife called and was told that someone was out and that they would be ready soon. I called after a month and a half and was told that the woman who does the hemming was out and they would get it done tomorrow. A couple more weeks go by and my wife called to let them know we were coming in to get our clothes. They made the repairs..not as cleanly looking as in the past...and refused to discount our service at all. I found a new tailor on Yelp with great reviews and plan to use him for all future work. Half the price too. Small businesses should realize that in these rare instances, they have the opportunity to make it right...and solidify a relationship. too often they choose poorly and lose a long time customer. Take it easy Paul Chang...i will not be back.. as I told you while in the shop. read more

Paul and his team are great. I can't afford a custom made suit from him or most of the other guys out there. But what I can afford is his alteration services. I'm always amazed how quickly he knows what I want with very little explanation. And I'm always happy to see how he can transform one of my cheap, baggy shirts, into a form fitting thing of beauty. read more

Sine 2009, I have taken no less than 30 garments to Paul Chang. Ranging from pants to suits to dresses, skirts.... even costumes. He always remembers my name, he always has a smile for me and he never complains. His rates are still reasonable and I understand that downtown rents are high. You pay for the convenience of the location versus a dry cleaner on the way north side. I even take stuff back to him if I want it a bit more snug or shorter and he does not charge me. I first came across Paul Changs Custom Tailor House in 2003 when he made me a suit for my wedding. It turned out beautifully, truly custom made. I have since bought another suit from him which was made with similar care and attention to detail. Paul Chang is clearly the leading tailor in Chicago - having made clothing for many prominent Broadway shows in New York and Chicago as well as for most films made in the area (Home Alone, Road to Perdition etc.). Worst tailor ever!!! I sent two of my Givenchy sweatshirts to them because they were really over sized... They messed up!!!!! And they charged 140 for this simple shit!!! Im super pissed off... They screwed 1600 dollars of clothes!!!! I would give zero star if I could!!! Never go there! read more

So to put my review into perspective, one of the things I am known for is buying expensive items that are on sale, in the wrong size, and having them altered. So over the years throughout different cities, the tailor world is not new to me. Since I moved to Chicago, I've used Paul Chang and have been very pleased. No, he is not just a custom-suit tailor ladies! He has already altered two very difficult dresses for me (one was a Milly dress that had a sheath on top of a fitted form) and the second was a beaded dress from Neiman's which I had taken in on the sides right in the middle of the pattern. I also had a custom shirt where he added in some darts to make it slightly more fitted, and various jackets that I've had sleeves shortened and pants hemmed. Honestly, Paul Chang's work is top-notch. I would also like to mention that for the beaded dress I needed it done in a very short timeframe for my sister's wedding and he went the extra mile to do this in a rush timeframe...and sewing everyone one of those beads took quite bit of time. read more

Paul Chang runs an exceptionally good tailoring operation that's conveniently located right off the Clark and Lake CTA stop. I've been going to Paul's shop for a few years now and the quality of his alterations have always been impeccable. In addition to doing great work in a relatively fast time frame, he's also just a cool guy that's interesting to talk to. Paul is extremely knowledgeable about men's fashion and can make just about anything! What an artist! He was trained in Hong Kong and has worked in Chicago now for about 40 years. His work has been in "Home Alone", "Road to Perdition", "Ocean's Eleven" and Twelve, and many more. I know this past year he worked on Batman. He made all the costumes for "The Untouchables" TV series. He also works heavily with all of Chicago's larger theatres. Lastly, he's a nice guy and is really easy to work with! read more

Im very particular about how my clothes fit me, from suits, to shirts, to jeans, even sweaters (which wool is very hard to alter)...Anyways Paul is the man, you don't visit a tailor for a cheap price, you choose a tailor based on value (price to quality). Paul does the best work and I have visited two tailors that charge more than Paul. Ill admit some of his fittings are non traditional but ALL of my clothing always turns out better than I imagined. DO NOT USE THIS TAILOR !!! I WAS VERBALLY ASSAULTED BY THE TAILOR AT PAUL CHANG's. I had originally taken a dress to an excellent tailor in Old Town (Tails), but it was a little too tight. I would have taken the dress back to Tails to be let out, but the owner went on vacation for a month, and I needed the dress for an upcoming wedding. In a bind, I went to Paul Chang's and asked them to let out the dress a bit. When I went to pick it up, the dress fit fine, but I noticed that the zipper wouldn't zip up all the way and a hook&eye had been added as a "quick fix" to the situation. When I pointed this out to the tailor at Paul Chang's he told me that the zipper never zipped all the way up, that I just didn't remember what the dress looked like before, and that he didn't do anything wrong. When I indicated that I did remember what the dress looked like (after having spent $100 at the other tailor on it!) and that I wanted him to try to make it look a little better, he told me that he would not tolerate being criticized by me. He then started screaming at me, saying things like, "I'm not going to take your bi%ching, my ex-wife used to bi%ch at me!" and "I want you to get the f&8k out of here, and you better pay me!" As he continued to demand payment from me (which I never said I wouldn't give him), he waved a pair of shears in my face and threatened to cut my dress up if I didn't pay him. I can understand if you are reading this in disbelief.....it was the most unbelievable, shocking and terrifying scene I have ever been involved in. Out of fear and frustration, I began to cry in the store, and a gentleman who was waiting in line took me out of the shop to help me calm down. Still extremely shaken up, I paid for the dress and got out of there as quickly as I could. No customer should be treated the way I was treated at Paul Chang's. read more
