I spent more than double what they charge at a House of Brides for a dress alteration only two weeks before discovering this gem and I think Willow Cleaners did 100% times better of a job than House of Brides for less than half the cost. They are difficult to communicate with because they aren't exactly fluent in English, but they make up for it in their speed of service and quality work at a very fair price. I will only bring my alterations here from now on! read more

Overall, the service is ineffective at cleaning--particularly when it comes to stains. Also, the main woman who works behind the counter there is very unprofessional. Most items come back with stains still on them, even if you ask for them to be specifically treated. When I asked for the stains to be marked so they wouldn't be missed in the cleaning, I was told that they don't do special treatments for stains so there's no point. This is different from what other dry cleaners who successfully remove stains have told me. For example if you have deodorant stains in the underarm areas of your clothes, don't expect them to come off when your clothes are returned to you, even if you specifically ask for them to be treated. One shirt came back with new much bigger stains on it, and another shirt came back with visible spots of what I was told was starch. When I asked that they clean those two items again and not charge me (since they were responsible for the new stains), the main woman behind the counter initially said no, put up a fuss, and accused me of making her "feel bad." When I came to pick up the clothes a week later, the same woman told me to not "expect perfect every time" (referring to how clothes there are cleaned). I've also experienced that the clothes are not ready for pickup when they say they will be, even if you come several days after they said they would be ready. I have given Willow Cleaners several chances, but I refuse to vote with my wallet for a service that's bad quality AND unprofessional. I understand that not all stains can be removed, but I don't think it's normal that clothes are sometimes returned with new and much worse stains and that their customers are treated in an unprofessional manner. read more

I've had many alterations done at Willow Cleaners, shortening the length on pants and tapering and shortening dress shirts. You can certainly tell that great pride is taken in their work and the quality of the alterations is impeccable. I'm very particular and more recently had some shirt alterations completed. I wanted the shirts a bit more fitted and the owner offered to "'fix" the shirts at no additional cost. This with the already affordable prices. Based on the quality of the alterations, it's definitely a great value. Even more, the owner is amazingly kind and always greets me with a warm smile. It's really a pleasure to chat with her. Although it's not the nearest alteration shop, it's definitely worth the trip. I won't take my alteration needs to any other place. Willow Cleaners is highly recommended! read more

Great Cleaner's spot. Chris and Kym are so personable and will take on any challenge. Super sweet staff and affordable! read more

The woman that hemmed my bridesmaid dress for a wedding did such a nice job. She was friendly, it was reasonably priced (especially since she pressed it for me too), and completed it quickly. I procrastinated and brought my dress in without much notice so the quick turnaround was greatly appreciated. read more

They do a great job with cleaning. Clothes come back looking great and without the annoying smell of starch. I love how soft and clean they feel (if you can feel such a thing). The only time I had a problem was with a new silk dress that they had gotten a small snag on the back, but it wasn't major. Maybe because the space is so small, they may not be as good with paying special attention to delicates. I've also had 2 pairs of jeans taken up with the original hem. Technically the work looked pretty good. The only thing I was disappointed about was that she didn't use the original color of the thread. You can't really tell unless you're studying them. The price was very good, only $12. Dry cleaning costs and little fixes are reasonable. read more

Yelp has led me to some great places in the past and this is definitely one of the best. I have had some good but PRICEY experiences with tailors in the past (Tailor's Touch, the Dress Doctor), so one of my greatest quests was to find a tailor in which the alterations didn't cost more than the dress and I definitely found this at Willow Cleaners! Conveniently located just a off of the North/Clybourn red-line stop, I paid a mere $30 for the alterations to my dress. And this included fixing the hem, the straps and taking in the sides and the back of the dress. I was in and out in no time when I dropped off the dress and I was told that I could pick it up on Wednesday which I thought was pretty decent being that it was Friday evening when I dropped it off. But here is where they lost a star... I was so excited to pick up my dress on Wednesday (that was to be worn to a wedding on Saturday), that I actually took off of work early to avoid the rush hour traffic on the el. I went by myself, it was a hot day, I was sweating, and when I got there, they couldn't find my dress! After a few minutes of looking around, they were able to locate my dress and they confessed that they hadn't even started the alterations yet! Rather than apologize for the inconvenience, they made a couple of excuses about how "complicated" some of the alterations were HOWEVER they told me that it would be done and ready to go the very next afternoon - guaranteed. If it was so complicated, why couldn't they finish it in five days but they could finish it in one? I was really, really annoyed. So here is what I recommend - DEFINITELY go to them for good alterations at a GREAT price, BUT, you need to call first before you make the trip to pick your clothing up. read more

I've been going to Willow Cleaners several years for bridesmaid dress alterations, and they have been so wonderful! Most recently, they were able to adjust the hem, tighten the straps, and clean a gown in just 7 business days. I tried calling several other places and no one else could perform what I needed in that timeframe. The prices are incredibly reasonable - $40 every time. The ladies that do the alterations are incredibly sweet. I moved to West Loop and continue to make the trip here for all my alteration needs. read more

I've had a duffel coat, overcoat, and rain coat cleaned here so far and things have been pretty great! Prices are extremely reasonable and the owners/staff are very polite and genuine people who even try to get to know you better! I'm happy with how my coats were cleaned given they are Brooks Brothers and they are very expensive. What's keeping this from a 5 star review, at this time, is that I was told to come back on a Wednesday for pick up one time and one of my coats wasn't ready until the next day. I learned to call ahead of time just to confirm my clothing is back in before going, so it's no big deal. Also, my duffel coat had some long women's hair on it in some parts, but the type of wool was bound to attract some hair. It would have been nice if it was caught by the staff and taken care of though. Once again, no big deal here. I noticed a spot on my rain coat that was still there after cleaning and they quickly offered to send it back for cleaning, so that was super appreciated, although expected. The people who work here are good people and you can tell they care about the customer. This is my main dry cleaner now meaning I will only go here moving forward! read more

The only drycleaner and tailor I will ever use! Pants hemmed for $8? Ridiculously good pricing! Never had a problem getting a stain out, pick up is always on time. Thanks Willow! read more

"I love my clothes!" and Chris and her staff do as well, they are spectacular! They are freindly, warn and kind. They are very professsional and reasonalbly priced. I lived in the nieghborhood for many years. I moved far south and tried at least 5-6 other cleaners, The other places were either too expensive, put too much solvent in, or put spots on everything! I was so frustrated I came running back. I even used one of the free bags from the old cleaners to bring my clothes. Additionally, I lost a ton a weight but I did not want to get rid of all of my clothes. I had not been used to altering clothes but because I was losing so fast I did not want to buy all new clothes. This team of ladies kept me in my diva gear. Finally, one day Chris said, "I can not take up anymore! You must buy new clothes now!" read more

After friends had a few pieces lost here, I was really worried. Fortunately, all my pieces came back, but they stapled the hanger paper TO MY SILK BLOUSE. At first I was like, ok, not a big deal I can just slide the staple out, but it was shut so tight that I had to get pliers to open it. Now I have two holes in my $200 silk shirt (and no, staples aren't big, but once they get into silk it starts to fray). All cleaners use paper on their hangers, I don't know why you would choose to haphazardly staple it when you're obviously working with nice clothing. Eff you guys. read more

Willow Cleaners did a great job of altering a mini-dress I had on very short notice - I called them around noon on Thursday when I realized my homecoming dress didn't fit anymore and needed to be taken in (I had also never gotten it hemmed, which wasn't a problem until the dress was both too big AND too long). I asked if she could have it ready by the next day after 5pm and she said yes. I came in and she had me in and out for measurements in about 15 minutes. I called twice to ask about the dress, which I'm sure annoyed them, but I had read reviews that they had forgotten about items, so I wanted to make sure. They were fairly friendly both times, and the dress was finished a little after 5pm the next day. The dress was the perfect length and fit very nicely. One small part had not been taken in correctly on the side, so it had a large wrinkle, but the dress' sides were ruched so it looks fine. I'm sure if I had given them more time and hadn't been in a huge rush to get to class while she was measuring me, the dress would have been perfect. $15 to have a dress hemmed and the seams taken in by the next day with no advance notice is a deal I will totally take! read more

I am sad to write this because I was a customer to 14 years, but I feel that this is necessary. When I came here, prices were reasonable and service was guaranteed. I felt like taking cleaning here was safe and reliable. The owner was honest about her guarantees with hemming or taking clothes in. Occasionally a really simple fix - sewing a button back onto a winter coat - were free services because it was too easy and not worthy of a charge. I saw the owner yell and scream at one of her workers for a mistake, then I never saw that employee again. This was in 2012. Since then, the owner has seemed flighty and unreliable. I took a throw in for a cleaning and it came back with a huge blue stain. I asked to have the stain cleaned out and it took much convincing. I thought that it was bound to happen and I should not use this against them but if something else happened, then that would be the red flag for service. About six months later, I took a really nice and expensive blouse in for a cleaning. It came back with light green- blue stains at the collar. I thought I must be wrong but I could see the marks in the mirror with the blouse on me. So I walked over the blouse, explained what I saw, and asked for the blouse to be cleaned against. The owner tried to deny this stain and started her temper tantrum. I had seen this when she fired her former employee and I stood there stoic until she agreed to clean the stain. The stain came out and I asked for the cleaning cost back. She lied about the cost of the cleaning so that she could save $1.50. I said that I didn't care, that it was proper customer service to own up to a mistake and that this was the second big mistake. She lost me as a customer and I am currently testing out new cleaners in the Old Town area. I started going to Willow in 1999 and ended my loyalty in 2013. It was a truly contemplated decision. They have good prices but not genuine service when a mistake is made. After 14 years of loyalty, I would expect a certain degree of trust. read more

I came here with my husband for the first time to get his new suit tailored. The owner was very kind and honest about the fit. She explained that she could alter the seams if we wanted but that the suit in general was too tight and did not fit correctly. Even with the alterations, it would not fit well and she recommended we return the suit and but a new one. We really appreciated her honesty and keen eye. We're thankful she looks out for the customer's best interest instead of just charging people for alterations that won't produce the desired results. We will definitely return once we buy a new suit! :-) read more

There's a somewhat combative woman working behind the counter. I told her I just spent five bucks at my current cleaners and they didn't do a good job. Her response is "I don't give you discount". I told her I'm not looking for a discount I'm looking for her to do a good job. She turns around and points all of the shirts in their store and says "shirt collars dingy, cannot fix". She then takes my shirts and starts filling out a work order and says to me "you leave today and you complain later, OK?" She knew her stuff -- my shirts came back just as dingy as advertised. Never again. read more

I've been to quite a few cleaners in this city, but Willow gets it right. I used to live in the neighborhood and loved Mrs. Kwan and her friendly staff - your bill would be $44 and she'd round it down to $40. Loved it! Sadly, I moved up north and started the long painful search for another cleaner. I tried three or four on Broadway and a few on Addison, but was constantly disappointed (and charged $50 for hemming a bridesmaid dress!), so I decided it was worth it to drive to Willow every Saturday. Let me tell you, Mrs. Kwan makes it worth my while. It's a $1 a shirt and she gives me my "You come from 3400 north" discount. Love her! Plus, she always remembers your name - sweet, sweet lady. read more

This place is amazing!! I was in a bind with a bridesmaid dress that was altered poorly by a seamstress in the suburbs. With not enough time to go back before the wedding, the amazing women at Willow Cleaners saved the day! She altered the dress for me and finished it that night. It was perfect, they now have a customer for life! read more

Terrible, miserable work. Came to pick up expensive pants that I had the waist, hem and taper altered on. They couldn't find my pants, looked frantically around the shop and found them untouched, balled up behind the garbage can. Told me to come back in an hour, did, completely destroyed my pants, ruined the seem and the pants are unusable. Refused to give me my money back. This store should be out of business - do not take clothes that you care about there read more

I LOVE this place!!! Ms. Kwon is the sweetest lady ever and they do an amazing job on my alterations and the pricing is always very reasonable. I have been going there for years even though I moved and no longer live in the neighborhood. I highly recommend Willow if you want the job done right. My nickname at Willow is "Mr. Picky" because I am super anal about my alterations, and they never disappoint. I don't understand how anyone could ever give them a poor review unless there is another bad Willow Cleaners in an alternate universe that they went to by mistake. One more thing...(having known her for years and spoken to her on various subjects) Ms. Kwon is an incredibly intelligent woman and does understand things very well even though her accent is strong. It really bothers me when people talk to her very slowly and say things three times like she is a simpleton. Just show her in person what you want done and don't assume she is confused. She's not. read more

This place is AMAZING. When I walked in, one of the workers was helping a young lady carry out her items to the car which was very sweet. They were extremely eager and kind. I gave them a duvet cover and two dresses. I also needed to get one of my dresses repaired where a seem had split. By the time I had my ticket, they had already sewed up my dress (without me even noticing) and they didn't charge me!! It was incredible. Hoorah for good service! read more

Amazing, I took my hat there to have a patch sewn on it and they did it while I waited and only charged me three dollars, workmanship was done right and it was very straight these guys are incredibly polite. Awesome tailoring. Almost scared to post this as it's my fav place to get work done. But mrs Kwan is so nice. You just have to be a little patient with the language barrier. But their tailoring is perfect. You can't beat the prices. read more

Amazing cleaners! They have items ready quickly and extremely affordable. I found them on yelp and have not been disappointed. I have referred many people to them. I have had numerous items tailored here and I am so impressed by the quality of workmanship. Specifically, I have had a bridesmaid dress and 2 other cocktail dresses. They don't really speak English, but I have never had a problem. Will continue you going here forever and ever! read more

I will probably up my review to a five. I'm only giving four stars for now because I did have to bring my back bridesmaids dress back again. BUT the entire dress didn't fit and it's a rouched, one-shoulder full-length monstrosity, so I can't really hold that against them. And they remembered me immediately when I walked in, are now fixing what we originally missed for free, and will get it back to me well in time for my brother's wedding (which is only 8 days away!). I also trust them 100%... They do great work. And the alterations were really reasonable: $45 for pulling the dress in pretty much everywhere and hemming. read more

I've been coming here for years. I've never had an issue. Last week I called in to Willow Cleaners to figure out if they were open. Turns out they had been closed for two hours but someone was still there working so she told me to come, anyways. When I got there she unlocked the door and got me my clothes. Over the years they have impressed me many times with great customer service. read more

I went here for a dress alteration for a wedding, and I was very happy with the service. The overall price was reasonable, and they were able to turn around the hemming within a week. This is definitely a standard dry cleaning place, so don't go here thinking it will be an elaborate tailoring place, but it's good for what it is. read more

This is my go-to place for alterations. Always done in a reasonable amount of time at a very fair price. They've hemmed a few dresses for me for almost nothing just because I bring so much in to them. I recommend this place to everyone I know who needs alterations. I don't have much dry cleaned here because it is not close to my house. read more

Ms. Kwon is the best. My husband has been coming here for years for all his drycleaning as well as any time he needed tailoring for one of his suits. Leading up to our wedding the suit he had made needed the finest of adjustments, and he insisted on taking it to Willow Cleaners. They did a fantastic job with the suit as well as adjusting the vest for a better fit. I took a applique dress here, and they thought it could be drycleaned but later decided it was too delicate and required hand cleaning... too many drycleaners would have found that out after the dress was ruined. That is the consideration you get with Willow Cleaners. read more

I smeared my makeup along the neckline of my white BEBE jacket, when I tried getting it serviced at willow's the old lady @ the front desk; who I assume is the owner did not want to receive it telling me that I'm better off doing at home and since the jacket has a belt with little rhinestones she said that there was high chance of loosing some. To spray some shout and the stains should be gone. I loved the fact that she gave me her advice. It seems she is not just there for the money. read more

This place does the best alterations in Lincoln Park for a really great price! The service is superior too. The last time I went in they even took off 5 bucks for my alterations because I had to wait a little long for someone to help me. That's what I call great customer service. So many places in Chicago over charge for simple alterations, so I'm super happy I found this place. read more

It pains me to give Willow only 3 stars, because this was my dry cleaner for 3+ years and I thought they were amazing - great customer service and really reasonable prices. Then, they send me home with the wrong cocktail dress and were not at all concerned with finding the right dress. I went back in every week for 6 weeks and they kept saying "Don't worry, it will turn up". I left them my cell phone number just in case. Almost 3 months after they lost it, my husband dropped by and they had my dress - they never bothered to call and tell me it had been found! Not cool. read more
