There are a number of dry cleaners in this area, but I've been coming to this one for the past few years because of the great quality service. The owner is so sweet and kind, and does great alterations. I'm very petite, so have brought a number of dresses and pants to be shortened. She has a small changing room, and is efficient at measuring and pinning. Everything I've taken has come out how I asked, and she can typically turn it around in just a few days. Pricing for alterations has been at or below what I've been quoted elsewhere, or what I've paid when I lived elsewhere in the city. The owner prices the service before I leave, or I make sure to ask so that I'm not surprised at pick up. Typically, they range from $10 (jeans shortening) to $40 (long bridesmaid dress with multiple layers of fabric); I always feel like her prices are reasonable based on the level of work. Dry cleaning pricing is on par with the area. read more

I have to give my ladies at GM their props. They've been my go-to girls for dry cleaning and alterations since 2007. Yang and Helen are unfailingly friendly and my items are always on time and perfectly pressed. A couple of years ago, Yang saw me walk in and she turned pale. Then, buried in a sea of apologies, came the news: a new employee (Helen) was trying to give the very best service and she used a cuff and collar treatment on my blue shirt. Problem: The cleaner Helen used was for whites only, not blue. Yang pulled my "mistreated" shirt from the rows of clean clothes and, head low with apologies flowing, she showed me the garment. I swear to God, I stared at that shirt for 10 minutes and I couldn't find *anything* wrong with it. But I think this shows exactly the kind of place GM Cleaners is. They're great neighbors. They care about their work. And they're honest...even when the "mistake" would never have been noticed. You can't throw a dead cat without hitting a dry cleaning shop in this neighborhood, but GM stands out for Yang and Helen's exceptional warmth and drive to please. read more

I took a dress here on Monday with instructions for it to be done by Thursday, my husband's birthday. No problem with that at all, it was ready by 3pm. I took it home and started getting ready for the evening. I got all ready to go and then I noticed that my lotion had gotten all over it! It was awful. I was so upset. I figured I'd just have a relatively expensive lesson ($9.95 for a dress cleaning), and went back downstairs. Yang, who'd been chit chatting with me when I picked it up earlier, asked if I'd worn it already. So I explained what happened, and she took it right over to the steamer and got to work. A few minutes of the machine and a few minutes of the steam setting on the iron (she did not actually iron it though), and it was good as new (which it was)! Thank goodness! Of course, I still didn't wear it because I didn't have time to wash off all the lotion on my legs so it didn't happen again, but I'm thrilled I didn't have to pay to have it cleaned again. Thank you, Yang! They also did a fantastic job cleaning my husband & my winter coats this year. I wouldn't hesitate bringing them clothing again, they've done a great job so far. I can't vouch for their tailoring services yet though, but at this point I can say that I know they issue pink slips for everything they do, and the slips always have a price listed. I never walk away without knowing exactly what it will cost, and I've never been quoted one number and charged another. By the way: When factoring in your decision about whether or not to use GM Cleaners, keep in mind that the first two reviews are a few years old and don't necessarily reflect how the shop operates now. read more

They ruined my favorite sweater! I bought a cool sweater from Anthropologie late last winter. Even on sale it was a splurge for me. I wore it a few times and loved loved loved it. Decided it was finally time to wash it, but the tag said. "dry clean only" and I didn't want to ruin it so I took it to these guys. I only picked them because I was getting my shoes resoled next door. Picked up my sweater the next day and didn't look at it until I got home. Took it out of the plastic wrap, and ... it is now full of holes and completely ruined! You can see daylight through it. It looks like they took a machine gun to it! WTF! I'm going back there today to see if they will pay for the sweater. I would give them no stars if I could. Negative stars. Stay away. Stay far, far, away. read more

I live relatively close and it's on my way, so I always drop my clothes off here to be dry cleaned. It's always the same woman, and she's relatively nice. Recently, I had a huge snag in my cashmere sweater. I stopped in to figure out if there was anything that could be done to fix it and she was able to do it for $10.00. It looks good and now I don't have to trash an expensive sweater because another dry cleaner snagged it. I'd recommend this place for alterations. Pricing on their dry cleaning is a little high, but the convenience is why I come here. read more

Naturally the one time i dont check with Yelp, i get screwed. I had a dress altered here, and while they did a nice job with the actual alterations, they quoted me one price and charged me another. Once i got my measurements taken they told me the price, and when i came in the following week, it was more than double. Their excuse was the girl who took my measurements "didnt know" how much it cost. Hmm ...i dont know, maybe, just maybe, you want to have people working there who KNOW what they are talking about? GM Cleaners fixed the ripped and frayed stitching on my beloved Marc Jacobs bag after another place managed to nearly ruin it with their hack job. For this, I am eternally grateful. I have trusted Mrs. Choi and GM Cleaners for more than 10 years and I would not consider having my dry cleaning or alterations done anywhere else. I discovered this cleaners by accident one day when I decided to do two errands in one swoop after dropping off shoes for repair next door. While it can be challenging to park here, I continue to drive here for all of my cleaning even though I live much further north. The cleaning is first rate -- I have never had an item of clothing ruined. Spots are removed, there is no chemical smell, and if something is not satisfactory -- for example if ironed a bit wrong or if a spot is not completely out - I have never been dissatisfied with the service as they do the work over at no charge. Buttons are always checked. If they are loose they are tightened and you don't find missing or cracked buttons when you get the cleaning home -- you find the buttons have been matched and replaced. My entire family and several of our friends go to Mrs. Choi for alterations -- she is a master seamstress and offers very fast turnarounds. It is best to make sure that Mrs. Choi is in the shop when you bring items in for alteration so that she can do the fitting and you can talk directly with her about cost. I was incredibly disappointed to see the 7/28 review of this establishment because it is so much different than my experience here. More often than not, you will need to park with flashers out in front, but I have never received a ticket. Be patient with those who help you in the store -- they are kindhearted and good workers. If you have difficult with their English, then speak slowly or call back to speak with Mrs. Choi if you are unsure that you have been understood. I consider this establishment a gem. read more
