Somebody gave a dry cleaner a bad review because they don't speak good enough english? Did not realize Donald Trump moved into the neighborhood. Door Step came through in the clutch for me this week. I had a suit that was in the trunk of my car. A six pack of Bells Two Hearted Ale Bottles that I stupidly placed right next to it broke as I was driving around and left some awful stains all over the jacket. My dry cleaner up by work was not able to get it out. I took it over to Door Step and now it's good as new! I've always loved going here....friendly neighborhood business. Keep up the good work. read more

Doorstep Cleaners is awesome. The employees are super cool, friendly, and really easy to work with. I've had two rush orders and both times they came through for me without any stress. They really go the extra mile, and the prices are reasonable for the quality you get! read more

I brought in a button-down shirt to be tailored, it needed to be shortened, with simple finishing, and the sleeves needed to be shortened and taken in. I was quoted around $65 and told I'd receive a call when it was ready over a week later. That date came and went with no communication, so I stopped by myself the following day. At pickup, I was suddenly told the total was $115 because additional work had to be done. In my opinion, charging $115 for a button-down alteration is excessive, but more importantly, if the cost was going to nearly double, I should have been contacted beforehand and asked if I approved the additional work and cost. When I explained that the price increase was a shock and that a heads-up would have been appreciated, I didn't really receive an explanation. I ended up paying $100. It's disappointing because I genuinely try to support local businesses over franchises, even when it costs a bit more, but this experience was beyond reasonable for me. Unfortunately, I won't be returning or recommending this tailor. read more

The new owners are great. Very friendly and down to earth people. They work very well and the turn around time is super. Prices are also reasonable. read more

I have done business here for a number of years. The staff is always great to work with. With me wearing dress clothes to work every day I have come to depend on a quality dry cleaners. There have have been an instance or two where things needed to be addressed as in any business. ThesThe stepped up to the plate to make it right at every turn. Timothy and his staff are great people to work with. read more

I ran in here one day needing "same day" dry cleaning of 3 coats and a pretty shirt I wanted to wear to an event that night -- even though it was past the "same day" time they got it done for me. Wonderful! THANK YOU! read more

It's hard to get excited over a cleaner, but for many of us they are a necessity of life! I chose Door Step due to the simple fact that they are the closest dry cleaners to my apartment. The guys there are nice. After a few visits they'll remember your name. My stuff is always done on time, and their rates are about standard for cleaners. They have better hours than a lot of cleaners, including being open on Sunday. They accept credit cards. They offer free pick up and delivery, but I've never actually used it. Maybe I'll give that a shot one of these days. My only complaint regarding quality is minor. When I was getting my shirts with medium starch, some of them came back with crusty white stuff on them (eww). They re-did those shirts for free, and switching to light starch seemed to make the problem go away. Not a big deal for me, but if you like more than light starch it's something to be aware of. read more

The turn around is great. The customer service here is awesome! They're friendly, welcoming and nice. They also have an adorable resident dog. read more

Used these cleaners twice for laundry service, unfortunately that was enough. First time, drop off clothes, they clean, even drop off at apartment... Perfect. Second time, drop off clothes, they mix up my laundry with someone else's. Have some of their clothes, they have some of mine. Totally ineffective at fixing the issue. Recorded my phone number to get in touch to get the clothes they lost. Never called. Called a few times, every time they wrote down my number, but never did anything to follow up. Lost a lot of clothes, never again. Steer clear. Go anywhere else. read more

DELIVERY service - Sure, they have free pick up and delivery (with a minimum order, I think it's $20 but not sure). But they never show up on time, if at all. I have come home early on numerous occasions to get my laundry picked up, or in hopes of getting my dry cleaning, but they never show up. I always have to call them and ask where they are. If they do show up they are almost always late, they never call to let you know they will be late. WASH & FOLD SERVICE - Blech. I went to this place maybe 5x before I got fed up. Twice I had damp clothing - quite noticable in the socks. One time I opened up the basket to find very wrinkled clothing - They didn't fold my shirts, they just folded them by the corners of the shoulders and draped them in the hamper. Then put heavier stuff on top, thus making further wrinkles! LAUNDERED MENS DRESS SHIRTS - UGH. I didn't know this place was bad until the 3rd time I had my bf's shirts done, he asked me who I was using and I told him this place. He told me never to use them again because his clothes weren't pressed as well as other places, and they always had some kind of white fuzz on them that he had to clean with a lint brush. read more

I've given up on this place, even though it's my closest dry cleaner. Firstly: I had a coat where two of the buttons had come off. They were supposed to put the buttons on and clean the coat. I went to pick up the coat and they had cleaned it, but forgotten to do the buttons. Secondly: I had a table runner with a burn hole in it from a candle. They said they could repair the hole. I picked it up and their idea of repairing ws embroidering a big green X over the hole. That wasn't what I had in mind. (It was a beige runner with some leafwork on it. The X just looks random now.) Thirdly: I had nearly the exact same experience with my shoes as the person below. I dropped off a couple of pairs of shoes for repairs. I knew that one pair would probably be really expensive to repair. So I asked that they call me with a quote first. They never called. So I stopped in a week or two later and all the shoes were STILL THERE. They hadn't even been sent out. They said they'd send them out shortly. A week or two later, I called them to ask what the story was, and they told me all the other shoes were ready (thanks for the call) and I should come and get everything. I went to pick everything up and there was a pair of shoes MISSING. Turns out, they had never sent them in. (And it took them ages to find the missing shoes too.) Maybe they're okay for dry-cleaning, but I wouldn't use them for anything else. read more

I have not used Door Step for my dry cleaning needs yet but I brought in my leather boots a while ago to get an estimate on repairing the heels and putting some kind of traction pad on the sole. The lady was nice but said she would have to consult "her guy" as to an estimated cost. I said that was fine and to call me. Close to a week later I call to see if they had an estimate and she said that the boots were already sent away to their shoe repair guy. Um, I was expecting a phone call with an estimate you guys. But whatever. Go ahead and fix my boots so that I can mark this off my to-do list. I ask that she call me when they come back and are ready to be picked up. She said it wouldnt be a problem. Four or five days after that, I call and she said that the boots were there and ready. THANKS FOR THE PHONE CALL. Jesus Christ. It was $40 for new traction-filled soles for both boots. After wearing them out a few times, the pads that they put on the heels imploded just like the original ones did. Not cool. I took them to an actual shoe repair place in the loop and they were done expertly and very quickly. I now have no need or desire to come back to Door Step. read more

They altered a suit for my WEDDING. After 3 attempts they still didn't get the measurements right and my shoulders were too big for the suit. It actually fit better before I brought the suit in. I went in 3 times and they still couldn't get it right. My clue shouldn't have been when they didn't actually use pins or put chalk on the suit. I asked for a refund and they said they still needed to charge me for the work done. I was shocked by this request considering they knew they did a terrible job. I paid for the work (even though it was not done right) just to be done with it and take it elsewhere. They'll never get my business again. By requesting payment for the suit they lost hundreds of dollars of dry cleaning business from me per year. That's what I call stupid business. read more

Stopped in to get a pretty but horribly fitting coat altered. The lady was very sweet and she gave me a reasonable price and timeline. Picked up the coat and it fits perfectly. They even sewed on the two buttons that fell off during the fitting! However, I do wish they had checked the rest of the buttons, since poorly sewn buttons was clearly a problem, and I lost the top button (one they didn't sew in for me) after first wear. I know that's actually an issue with the original company (I'm looking at you, Steve Madden), but as someone who values attention to detail, I just feel it would have been easy and greatly appreciated. Nitpicking aside, I'll definitely be going back! read more

I get a little peeved when the people working at a dry cleaners don't speak a lick of English. Yes, I DO need to explain that maroon stain on my favorite green jacket so you can properly treat it. I don't necessarily feel comfortable just pointing to the spots on my coat that are tarnished and the non-English speaking guy putting a sticker on it. Don't they need to know the origin of a stain??? Language woes aside, I do like Door Step Cleaners. They always have things done on time and even though I stress about whether or not they'll get stains out of my gear (I'm clumsy and I wear my clothes hard, OK?) they always do. So... A-OK in my book. read more

Amateur hour... I don't know how you can be comfortable running a business in the 21st century without providing immaculate service. When you randomly close 20 minutes before 7 or open your doors 15 minutes past advertised open, it's infuriating. Many of us don't have the luxury of hanging around waiting for your dry cleaners to be open and when you need your clothes done the most, these guys won't be around. I'd go somewhere else unless you literally live within a 2 minute walk. They don't provide collar stays and provide below average service. I'm looking forward to the days when startups and mobile dry cleaning services take over and make these guys obsolete. read more

My understanding is that they are under new management now. I have no idea what the new service is like, but since my problem was specifically with the service provided by the previous owners, I'm revising my review to give new ownership a fair shot! read more

This place delivers exactly what one would expect for the price. The service is great and the quality of the work is excellent. The prices are very reasonable. More importantly, the work is completely in a timely fashion at no additional cost. I am very happy with them and will keep using their services as long as I am living in the neighborhood. read more

After about 4 months of flat-out being lied to, I finally got my $40 for a $150 sweater they stole...I mean lost. Fast forward to now - My husband took some straps into them to have velcro sewed on. They told him to come back in a week and they would be ready. (I wasn't aware he used these cleaners until after he took them there) We went in this past Sunday to get them and got charged $15. The "owner" told us how much of a problem it was because she didn't have the right needle and how it was difficult and a few more whiny excuses, but she got it done!! She charged us and we left. We get home and the velcro was sewed on so poorly that it started to unravel as we took them out of the bag. The sewing was also pathetically poor - Much like a novice 8 year old trying to sew. What really bothers me about this place is they: 1. Don't own up to their mistakes. 2. Lie about who they are and what's going on with their business 3. Isn't truthful about certain projects they can and cannot do. I much rather would have had them tell us they couldn't do the straps the correct way instead of half-ass doing the work and letting us walk out of the store with some crappy end product. Stay away from here - Yeah - they are convenient and may do a good job with a few things, but their lying and overall shoddy business practices/customer service isn't worth the convenience. Oh - and when my husbo brought up the sweater incident she claimed she paid me $80 (which is what I asked for in the first place) and told him his sweater was old so it didn't matter. Who the hell is she to say my sweater is old??? read more

Both times I went here to have my suit cleaned, they could not locate my suit when I came to pick it up and I had to come back another day. I was forced to wear an old suit of mine from high-school to an important business meeting. I will not be coming back. I am so mad about the whole thing that I signed up for Yelp just to post this review. read more

I'm sorry to be doing this, but after being patient with problems for over a year, enough is enough. At first, this little laundry service was great--a nice, family-run shop who washed my clothes like they were their own(really!). Then I started to get returns that smelled of cigarette smoke. Okay, the fact is, I didn't say anything for many, many months. I either aired everything out or rewashed in my portable washer, because I didn't want to get the employees in trouble. Finally, one day, it was so awful, I had to say something. The owner was upset, but didn't offer to rewash the laundry. That really should have been a big tip-off to me. She told me she would take care of the problem. From then on, she started to deliver the laundry to me herself. Of course, this is her choice, but it made me think that her son, who did the deliveries, was perhaps not in compliance with the no-smoking in the van rule? Again, her choice. But okay with me. Then I decided stupidly to made a second complaint. Mind you, by this time, I had been with this company for a good amount of time. I notice that some of my bath towels were coming back with a funky, weird smell to them. Now, I told the owner because I felt she needed to maybe check her machines. This is no big deal, okay? Well, she really had a fit! I mean, at first she was calm and polite, but when she brought back my laundry, she ranted all the way up the stairs about how she had done her best, and she couldn't think of what else to do, and if I had any more "problems", then she guessed she couldn't keep me as a customer! She actually said this! I thought I would cry. Umm. Okay. Done, I thought to myself. I had put up with cigarette smoke in my clothes for over a year without a word. I put up with funky smelling towels for over a year without a complaint. When I did say something, the owner went ballistic. But Chicago is a big city, and if a business owner doesn't want me, I can go elsewhere. So I was quiet, but after she left, I went online and started hunting. I now have my laundry washed at the Real Deal laundry service. Super-clean, super-fast, very, very professional. Wow, what a difference! I can't believe I put up Door Step's nonsense for this past year. read more

I take all my dry cleaning here and it's always done quickly with no problems. I've also come here for a number of minor repairs and the results were great. I think they charged me $3 to seamlessly patch a sweater. read more

Stella is the best. She is the owner. Antonio - the Taylor is awesome. He does great work. They sew buttons back on dress shirts for free when they break (I think shirt presses break the buttons most of the time). I have been going here since they opened and they are great. read more

Great turnaround on cleaning and alterations. Unlike all the other cleaners I've tried in Ukrainian Village, they really care about my garments and the prices are terrific! read more

Silver sequins and seashell beads on satin.... Cleaned!! I have a cocktail dress no one in wicker park could clean and these guys took care of it. After explaining the sentimental value of the dress the owner, Tony, promised to take care of it himself, and he did. Great prices, extremely friendly and polite. Will definetly make them my neighborhood cleaner. read more

They ruined a $150 silk dress because they "send out" their work. No accountability- they blamed it on the company that cleans the garments. Also have had to send back multiple items because they came back DIRTIER than when I brought them in!! read more

I love this place. Not only do they offer convenient drop-off and pick-up hours, but the service and quality of the work you get is unmatched. I've used them for about 3 years now consistently, and I must admit that this place, has exceeded my expectations everytime. I am impressed with every service I've obtained. My shirts are VERY clean, NEATLY pressed; alterations to my dress slacks and jeans with original hemn are perfect; Great and Friendly service; Turn-around time; Open Sundays. Nice neighborhood business. Great feel for the people running this place due to the sense of pride taken in what they do. Prices are worth every penny and it's reasonable not eye gouging prices like the people down the street who often mix my request for no starch, on my shirts, with extra starch. read more

This is my first time using yelp.Reason being i would never try and damage a business reputation unless they totally deserved it.But i did say i would write a review if i really was impressed by a business. With that being said let me start off by saying the customer service is great! Very nice lady who works the front who speaks very good english. My previous 2 drycleaners the asian ladies at the front barely spoke any english and were very cold and rude they just tossed my clothes on the floor like a dirty rag! and another thing i love about doorstep is there tailor is AWESOME! And very fast. One day he did a repair on the spot in like 5 minutes. As long as they continue doing what there doing i'll be a lifetime customer. read more
