Not only was I not greeted, but I was also being watched as I browsed throughout the store meanwhile other customers were not. I waited to be asked if I needed to be helped but to no avail. I love supporting and recommending small businesses, especially the ones in my own neighborhood, but I won't be returning somewhere I am made to feel unwelcome.

I thought I had found a boutique that I could buy from and build a relationship with. It's not the case, I guess. So if you order from here, make SURE you get your correct sizes. Spoke to the owner today. She was very nice. I believe in second chances! I'm sending the dress back, and ordering something else using the credit received. With some spare time this weekend - I went for a walk to see what some of the independent boutique stores in my neighborhood could offer. For men, Chemise is where it's at on Division street! No hassle or hard sell crap from the owner - was just allowed to take my time and look at everything. Very helpful though when I asked questions. I was focused on buying shirts while going there and have to say that they have *the* best selection of all the boutique stores on Division street. I found probably 8 shirts worth trying on here and a total of two at the other four or five boutiques combined. Good stuff - they don't carry every size in every style though so go often to look at what they have. Prices for their shirts was very reasonable also - no need to drop mounds of c-notes here :). Lots of jeans as well and some shoes that looked pretty sharp but my attention that day was on shirts. -G

As someone on the shorter side with a large waist-to-hip ratio, I often need my clothes tailored to get the fit just right. The pricing is very fair at $20 for a hem, $15 for a waist take-in, and varying for a few other services. They are cash only and can provide change if needed. The turn around time varies, but usually is about a week or two. I've never needed anything rushed, but I'm sure they will work with you if needed! I am removing one star only because there have been two times I went to pick up an item on the agreed upon date and the items weren't ready. This was an inconvenience, but hasn't happened in a while. My most recent visit: I dropped off a pair of pants on Monday morning and received a text on Wednesday that the pants were ready for pickup -- a few days early. I don't usually receive a text when the items are ready, but greatly appreciate the increased communication and confirmation! Always glad to support a small business in the area & will continue to do so.

I'm not really a, "shopper," I am more of a, "buyer;" but Richard had my 15 year-old and I in and out in less than :20-mins. with exactly what the kid needs for this upcoming dance-- and the price was right for a lightweight all-wool silk-lined Italian suit. We would've spent 50% more at Men's Wearhouse and between twice and 150% more at Brooks Brothers or J.Crew. The place was packed as usual--just chock-full of cool stuff. Another great experience. My fiance came looking for maybe a tie or pocket square to match my dark purple wedding dress, but also wanted to check out the Oxfords and suits. He ended up leaving with a perfect vintage suit that will only need minimal tailoring, a pocket square, a tie, as well as a casual shirt, all for less than the cost of renting a suit somewhere. Plus, gotta love supporting a shop like this -- in business 11 years and clearly going strong; there were 5 or 6 people shopping in there at the same time! And Richard was hopping from one to the next effortlessly. In addition to clothes, there are other vintage finds such as paintings/photos, cocktail accoutrements, and matchbooks. Richard himself works most days but said Sundays he has an assistant so that he can check out estate sales himself. He obviously takes pride in finding wonderful and unique pieces for his shop, and said that everything gets dry cleaned before selling (so it doesn't have the musty smell of some vintage shops). My fiance appreciated the thoughtful layout of the shop. It is obvious that we will be back to check out more fabulous finds!

Yet, it is how a business chooses to respond that makes the difference. Case-in-point: one of the shirts I dropped off was a victim of a battle I'd had with a bowl of ramen. The result was tiny oily stains on the front. Generally, dry cleaners have no issue with stains of this kind. Further, when I asked the gentleman behind the counter what chemical they use, he stated it was "Perk" (writing it out). I will assume he meant "Perc"c as in "Perchloroethylene", a chemical which dissolves oil. All this to say, when I picked up the shirt, the stains were still there. I called this out, and asked "Isn't perc. supposed to dissolve oil?" The response given was that the machine was very full. (By the way, isn't Perc banned in Illinois?) I am confident I pointed these out, but even if not "We're sorry, you did not call out attention to these so we were unaware" may have been be reasonable. What was said was not only a poor excuse, but also an indication of a half-hearted job. Stuffing a machine so full it cannot clean means nothing inside gets effectively cleaned. Now, I want to give them some credit where it is due. When the shirt in question was redone, the stains were gone. The other items I had cleaned were also done properly, and I've no complaints. Other than the half-hearted excuse, it seemed the clerk was knowledgeable, as he suggested which items should be laundered, and which should be dry cleaned based on their material, however, I am not sure how much confidence I have with this, as I'd been having these items laundered easily dozens of times without issue. Thus, based on my experience, Newstyle did a solid job making my clothes clean and pressed - however, this required two visits, seeing past an excuse, and comes with the caveat that the machine in use may be stuffed over capacity and thus unable to clean effectively.
