I've only used Star Glo once, so take me with an appropriate grain of salt. I brought 8 items for their periodic dry cleaning. It was right before the holidays, so I asked them what day would be good since I wasn't in a hurry. They told me Monday afternoon. Cool, no problem! When I went for pick-up on Monday, I was told all but one of my items were ready. I was told to come back for it tomorrow. So, tomorrow comes and I'm told the final item hasn't been cleaned at all. They wanted my green light to dry clean it (which is prominently displayed on the item's oversized care tag) because they were worried about an aspect of the item cracking or peeling. Look, I've had this item for a decade. It's been dry cleaned multiple times, in two different countries even! There isn't a single indication of cracking or peeling on the part of concern. I was totally baffled that they never bothered contacting me, didn't notify me on Monday and weren't sure if they should dry clean the item I brought to a dry cleaners that clearly says it is a dry clean item on its care tag. If I had been contacted about this before, at least by the Monday I had come to pick it up, I might consider this a sign of Star Glo's attention to detail and would have reflected positively on them. As it stands, waiting until my second visit to pick up my clothing to open the topic felt like my time wasn't being respected. The other pieces of clothing were cleaned just fine, but I'm thinking this won't be a repeat place for me. read more

Very friendly. Brought in a pair of pants (among other items) which had a stain that I pointed out. After picking them up, I noticed the stain was still there. I'm a little, well, very particular about dry cleaners and many of them seem like the proprietors have no real knowledge of fabrics or expertise in how best to handle. They're commodity businesses, nothing more. Armed with a great 1970s-era raincoat, sort of mod-cool and timeless, its off-white cotton canvas fabric desperately in need of cleaning, I read some reviews and decided to try Star Glo. Even before I left the storefront, my sense of confidence was high, thanks to the owner. He looked closely at the coat and then explained that he first would spray on a pretreatment and then clean it. Then, and this is what really stood out to me, he said he would take care of the coat as if it were his own. Seriously, what could be more reassuring than that? I knew the coat was a gamble of sorts, but at that point my confidence was way-high that if it could come clean, this was the place it would happen. I picked it up yesterday and I'll just say this: the quality of work and results of his efforts blew me away. With great service, fantastic results, reasonable pricing and, yes, a parking lot, this is total top choice. "I'll take care of it as if it were my own." Been going here for a bit. They are friendly and nice and all, but they can't seem to have the clothes done on time ever. I dropped off some shirts a week ago and they said Friday by 3p, I went in Friday at 5p and they were not done, this is typical. They said it would be a few minutes and I just said I would come back Saturday afternoon. Giving them another 24 hours. On Saturday I went in around 4p and they still were not done. I asked what happened and no one knew. This is typical of nearly every time I dropped off clothes. They do an ok job, but they can never follow through with a pick up time. read more

Suppose most people don't think much about their dry cleaner unless they really help them in a pinch get something cleaned fast, or they make a mistake. After using many dry cleaners in our area, and leaving them, we settled on Star Glo, and have been going their for more than a half dozen, probably more like 8 years or more. They have helped us in a pinch, and we were thrilled. We have had a missing article of clothing or two as well. It happens. It happens in my house, and these folks handle a lot more clothing than we have, and almost always keep it all straight. When it happened, they always showed us that they were seriously concerned, AND, they always found our clothing and respectfully returned it to us. This business has been a going concern for more than 50 years, based on the sign you see hanging in the place. There is a photo of Andrew, the founder, the man I assume is his son who now seems to run the business, and a boy who I understand is the godson of the current proprietor. This is a thriving family business, and they take being part of our community seriously. That they have managed to continue to serve our community for this many years tells me that they are doing something way better than average, and have been for years. They have done great by us. I am glad we found them in frustration as we left another dry cleaning service. That we have continued to use them for as many years as we have should tell you all you need to know. Has been my go to place up the street for years but they just had a massive price hike and pricing on the website is no longer accurate. Used to bring in a 2 piece suit and a sport coat about once a quarter for $19.00. Now they raised the price of that to $29.00 and just kind of make it up when you drop clothes off since there is no price schedule in the store. Appreciate the service through the years, but with that hike and pricing unpredictably I worry it could be $39.00 next month. read more

This place is the best dry cleaning place. My boyfriend has been coming here since 1989 and he never went anywhere else. I wouldn't trust anyone with my Canada goose jackets and Burberry trench coats. I live in downtown but always drive all the way here when I need my coats to be cleaned. In my building, we have pressbox and I hate it. They charge more and always deliver late. You can rely on this place, they are always on time and my coats come out perfectly cleaned every time. I give them two stars because of the customer service. However, that's where it ends for me. I am disappointed in the fact that my items were not ready when they said they would be. I got my clothes three days later. The suits had lint all over them. A pea coat I sent to get dry cleaned there came back with the same lint balls and crunchy splatters (that could be removed with a wet cloth) that were on there when I dropped it off, It looks like the coat wasn't when touched. For the prices they charge for services , it's disappointing to see the that their service was so subpar. Despite being LATE with my items, they didn't even offer to compensate me for my time. I will never come here again and I suggest you look elsewhere. read more

Sometimes they're not ready by closing but they have come by our house to drop off our clothing when we needed it for the next day. I was nervous about handing over my brand new - but too long - $80 slacks to a dry cleaners I had never used. So I took a pair of slacks whose length I liked so that they could use those to tailor my new slacks. Well, the owner pointed out that because they were of two different fabrics, it'd be best if he could hem my slacks while I was wearing them. This made me feel like he knew what he was doing... more than I did. Which is good. They're supposed to be the experts after all. I got my slacks back today and they were perfect with both flats and heels. And all I paid was $7! The cherry on top? Completely legit, competitive prices and family run. A clean and press for a men's shirt is a buck. They do tailoring also. I've had them add escaped buttons and patch my favorite beat up jeans. I think the jeans cost me six dollars. Having mentioned the family run part... if the need should arise, try to address any concerns with the son rather than the father. I got a great thrift store coat that didn't survive the dry cleaning process. As the son was explaining what happened the father started yelling about "manufacturer's defect". The son, with practiced patience wearing thin, had to take the still angry father into the back of the shop. On his return he told me he'd make it up on future business which he was more than happy to honor the next time I brought in a few shirts. Good work, good people, good place. read more

I don't like giving mom & pop shops anything then a glowing review, but this I've given Star Glo many chances! Approximately 6x! And they do an okay job, the problem with them is my items are never ready when they say it's going to be. A couple of times I had to go back 2 times to pick up because they kept telling me that it wasn't ready. And the last time I purposely went about a week and half later than the date they gave me that it'll be ready and again, it wasn't ready. It's very frustrating. And I dont even give them any day that I need it by. I tell them to just let me know what day is good for them for me to pick it up. I'm going to drive a little bit further and check out H&M cleaners and hope they're better and more timely. read more

Came here based off the reviews on yelp to get my comforter cleaned. I figured great reviews and a cheap price so why not. I dropped off my comforter and although the staff was very friendly, I was assured that it would be a great experience. Came a week later to pick it up, and they looked puzzled as to why I was coming to get it. I said the paper says pick up today. They at first couldn't locate it and then when they finally did, the staff member said that it never was cleaned and if I come pick it up 3 days later. I didn't make a big deal out of it because he waived the fee. I finally came to pick it up 3 days later and my comforter was ruined! I paid 200 bucks for comforter and it was done for. The stuffing in the comforter was completely displaced and bunched up. It no longer was fluffy but was as flat as cardboard. I called them to let them know what happened and they just offered to re dry it in the dryer which is why it got ruined in the first place. I will never go back. Sometimes cheap isn't always the best option because you get what you pay for. Now I have to buy a new comforter because of this mess. read more

In addition to cheap dry cleaning, Star Glo offers cheap alterations. I was nervous about having them taper my 2 new pairs of wool pants since they didn't have many reviews, but I am pleasantly surprised with the quality of the tailoring. They also pressed the pants even though I hadn't asked! It was $14.50 to taper the pants from the thigh to the cuffed hem, but it would've been only $8-9 had there been no cuff. That's pretty cheap compared to other places! I took off 1 star for 2 reasons. It was rather awkward explaining the alterations I wanted without trying on the garments and showing the tailor. The "changing room" (which is really a closet with a chair) is not stellar, but at least they have one. Plus, I had a coat dry cleaned there and they damaged it up slightly - there was some pilling, but it's not too noticeable unless you're really close. All in all, Star Glo is pretty affordable and, from my few experiences, they get your clothes done in time! read more

If you want to have clothes (dry)cleaned in the Irving Park area with a quick turnaround at a VERY reasonable price from people who can understand you and employees that you can understand...this is your place!!! I searched high and low when I moved into the city for a new cleaner and found this one by a fluke. The guys there must be from the same family, but are all VERY friendly, English speaking, and can always make things happen!! I am a stickler for light-starch and creases in the sleeves of my arms on my dress shirts. I call the piss-poor creases "runways" seeing that there are usually two creased lines which makes the shirt look unprofessional in my opinion. The biggest reason for the four stars - There were a couple of times the runway situation occurred for me. To get some buttons taking care of on my shirts took some extra time, but was better than me doing it. They get extra credit for showing me a problem created with a shirt and told me they would send it to their tailor to have it fixed. Three days later the hole was gone, the shirt was great and I never got charged a dime for it! read more

The price was a little higher than his regular cleaner but they did a great job and were very accommodating. We were able to drop the suit off at 11 and got it back later that afternoon. How ironic it is to find my own Grandfathers business here! This has been a family owned business for over 40 years and has been run by our Grandfather and Uncle. Sometimes as a child I would have to come along for a few hours with my Grandmother to Star Glo. As far as I know they have very little competition in the area as they have long lasting loyal customers. This could be a reason for PW's unfortunate experience here, I've always known them to be very busy throughout the whole day. Even now when I call to check up on them they have to swap phones to greet customers, they're always trying to keep up with the business. No it isn't neuro-surgery, but I don't think your taking into consideration what goes on back there. I remember hearing of a pen getting in a load, that can very well take up a whole day. My career path into the computer industry certainly is more complicated than this, but I've witnessed enough the effort that goes into removing a stain. This is no easy matter ahaha! Sure its my Grandparents business but that isn't why I rate it so high, I've witnessed them to be hard working and very friendly with the customers. They've been at it for over 40 years and still keep things going, I for one am always impressed with their dedication. took my husband's slacks in yesterday to get cleaned... a guy walked up to the counter from the back... guy: what can i do for you? me: um i just need these cleaned. guy: when do you want em by? me: whatever's cheapest. guy: oh it's all the same =) me: ok... tomorrow? tomorrow. guy: alright and he handed me my yellow copy of the receipt after scribbling over thursday... when i got in the car i looked at the receipt and the total for 2 pairs of slacks came out to just 6 bucks... SIX BUCKS?!?!?! whatta deal! what a deal =) So then I went to pick them up the next day and an older man limped his way up to the counter with a cane for support... Took my receipt... Looked for my husbands slacks... Found em but had a hard time reaching for em cause he had one hand occupied with the cane that was keeping him balanced... Wobbled back to the counter and small talked... Anyway... Long review short to the point... His hip was broken and he still had a smile on his face through the whole process! I dropped off early afternoon Wednesday and said I MUST have the suit and sport jacket by Saturday mid-day for work. The man behind the counter told it would be ready Thursday. I was thinking evening but it was done by 1 PM. Cleaning was good quality, he got something off the sleeve that I hadn't been able to get with my washing machine or a sponge! I found this place going on Yelp and looking for drycleaning/tailoring in my neighborhood. I dropped off items for tailoring and drycleaning without any urgency for either. We agreed on 5 days for pick up. When I came in, the items weren't ready yet so I gave them a few more days. Went in again, not ready. When I went in to pick up the third time, they were ready and there was no charge to me. I was impressed! Granted maybe a discount would have been nice but both items were completely free! To me, this is above and beyond good customer service. Timeliness might be an issue for some but I was in no hurry to get my items tailored/drycleaned. Free is great! Will definitely use them again.
