Gibson does a nice job on everything I've had cleaned there. But the just "OK" rating has a reason. At 9:30am today, it was HOT inside. How could folks work in an environment that's so extremely warm and uncomfortable? The workers there are physically active and moving, which makes the temperature all the more worse. I didn't see any signs saying air conditioning was down. I just hope this was temporary. read more

What happened to Gibson's? Brought a coat in two weeks ago for zipper replacement and cleaning and they did nothing - no call, no explanation. They also no longer clean fur. They stopped taking legitimate payments and only accept cash and zelle now. They did a wonderful job of cleaning and preserving my wedding dress and veil - which were mostly delicate lace. They took great care of it and it looks clean and sparkly in its box. Definitely recommend this place if you're looking for great care and service. Super friendly, to boot. read more

Id give it 3.5 stars if i could.. I brought a shirt in to be taken in a little bit at the sleeves and sides. They didn't measure me so they made the sleeves waayyy too tight, but when I brought it back a second time they were very nice about it, and fixed the problem without charging me. My wife and I have been going to Gibson's for years. David and his crew do a phenomenal job, and we make the drive from North and Clybourn to Southport every Saturday because they're worth it. The popular choice is Barry Regent, but they screwed up one too many shirts. They dry when they should not, they launder when they should cold water wash, etc. -- overrated, and not worth the hype. Now, Gibson's? They care about your clothes, and it shows -- I work as a litigation consultant, and wear suits on a daily basis -- nice shirts with "instructions," nice suits and a picky wife that likes to make sure slacks and shirts are washed, laundered, pressed, measured, blocked, etc., etc. In other words -- the professionals who wear clothes that need to be done a certain way in order to keep them longer choose Gibson's -- my wife trusts all of our clothes, from rack to couture, with them, and I do the same. They do small repairs (buttons and loose threads), and do a great job on stains. Try them out if you have not yet -- right next to the Mystic Celt, across the street from Homemade Pizza Co. and Einstein, so you've got a great neighborhood to kick around in as well on a Saturday morning or afternoon. read more

I stopped by to get my suit pants altered/shortened about 2 inches. Immediately, the women was totally rude, acted like my business didn't matter, and I will NEVER go back. She made such a big deal about the alteration and made it sound so complicated, just to make me go away. I went to 2 other dry cleaners/alteration right after that and they were so pleasant, made it sound easy, and they could get it done for me that day. I ended up dropping the pants off at "Joy Cleaners" which is right down the street from Gibsons and they were perfect. NEVER EVER EVER EVER will I go back to Gibsons. This place is the worst, if I could give negative stars I would. I had an evening dress cleaned that had a brooch in the front. When I got it back a stone was missing in the brooch, and they claimed that it was already missing when it was brought in, which it definitely was not! On top of that, the owner was extremely rude over the phone and did nothing. I actually had other bad experiences here but went back because their location is so convenient for me I thought another try couldn't hurt. My bad luck!! Never again! The other incidents was: 1) my husband's suit jacket came back with a button that didn't match the others. Not only that, the button was sewn on backwards because the back of the button matched the rest of buttons more closely than the front of the button. A deliberate act of deception!!! Since that suit is worn very infrequently we didn't notice it until more than a year later. Another time I had a skirt that had little tiny mirrors sewn on the front for decoration. Well, when I got it back, ALL the mirrors had been removed!! I suspected one or more of the mirrors broke so they must have removed it all. I didn't mind it without the mirrors so I didn't do anything, but in retrospect, with all the other crap that this cleaner pulls I wished I had!! THIS PLACE WILL NOT TAKE CARE OF YOUR CLOTHES AND WILL DO ANYTHING THEY CAN TO COVER UP MISTAKES!!!!! read more

My husband and I had been going here for over 10 years, especially for our couture clothing until one bad mishap after another (from receiving others' clothing when we picked up, to damaging our clothing). The last mishap was the final straw..... They completely ruined an expensive shirt (almost looked like bleach stains once we picked it up) so we complained, naturally. The owner of the place, Dave is a real piece of work, too. He tried to "pass the buck" @ every chance he could. And then there is this woman who works @ the Southport location who did nothing but give us an attitude as if it were our fault that this situation arose!!?? We will never go there again. They inspired us to sign up on Yelp just to write this review so that others know who they are dealing with if they plan to use Gibsons. Stay away! read more

I've been taking my dry cleaning to Gibson's for over 20 years and have had consistently great experiences. Shirts come back clean, perfectly starched and no button damage. Delicates and dry-clean-only are equally cared for. No shrinking or damage and they get stains out that I never thought could dissolved. I've also had them tailor several garments. I started going to Gibson's several years ago after a cleaner closer to me refused to fix a pocket on my work uniform and told me that I needed to buy another one. I have never had any problems and am unsure why there are so many bad reviews. I guess some of them are from an old location, which I have never been to. From the work uniforms to suits being tailored or even asking them to clean my favorite baseball cap they've always done a great job at a reasonable price. I've been thrilled with them and will be using them as long as I am in the neighborhood. read more

I brought my shirt in it had a chocolate stain on it to be cleaned. The 1st time they just pressed my shirt and didn't even launder it. I could still smell my cologne on the shirt. I went back again and pointed out the stain again. I specifically asked them to dry clean it and pay attention to the stain. I go to pickup my shirt. Just laundered not dry cleaned like I specifically asked. Stain is still there. This place is way overpriced and this is not the 1st time I've had an issue with the quality of their service. Their response was to try and clean it again. That it was not a chocolate stain and that I didn't know what I was talking about. Why would I trust them again with my shirt? I told the clerk several times that I wanted it dry cleaned and they flat out ignored my request. read more

They did a great job with same day shirt laundering. I was able to drop off 10 shirts after the usual same day service cut-off time and they were able to accommodate me and get my shirts back in a few hours. I was referred to them by someone else in the cleaning industry who told me that most cleaners do not have the machine that launders shirts on site but that they did, and that is why they were able to get them done on such short notice. I'm not sure why they have so many $$$$ listed on Yelp as I thought that their prices were very reasonable - $2.50 per shirt for same day service. read more

Fantastic, last minute service! I received my suit back from another alteration business(not in the area) and after trying it on at home I was not impressed with the hack job they did. I had a huge problem because I needed the suit for a wedding that afternoon. I called them at 3P and they said, "come in!" I was out the door by 3:45P with a proper fitting pair of pants for my suit and all for $25! These guys get it and do great work! Highly recommended!! read more

This deserves the worst rating possible. If I could, I would erase all the stars and make them invisible. The people here make you feel like crap when you talk to them, and they are completely overpriced which adds on to the bad service. Davids wife is so rude, and both of them are very defensive and don't take responsiblity for any of the bad work they do. DON'T EVER GO TO THIS HORRIBLE PLACE TO GET YOUR CLOTHES ALTERED OR CLEANED! *EVER!* His wife never cared about the business we have given them for 5 years and said she would pull our receipts to get proof that we've been there before. I live near Taylor and Racine and I take my "good stuff" to Gibson's..what I do not like is sometimes I need something repaired and not cleaned and they end up cleaning anyway. The other thing is if you are African American they look at you crazy when you walk in (although they eventually service with no problem) they need to delete the "I am shocked" look and perhaps brush up on the their English that would make for a better experience..but work is good! read more

Please note that my review below also applies to GIBSON COUTURE CLEANER at the Irving Park location - 3545 W IRVING PARK. Here is an update to my original review below. I went back to Gibson to retrieve my incredible shrunken sweater. (The store asked me to leave it there so that they can show the damage to the owner.) Apparently the Southport location is now CLOSED. So I went to the Irving Park location. I spoke to Mr. Gibson himself and asked for my sweater back. He proceeded to tell me that the sweater now belongs to HIM!!! He said "I sent you a check already so the sweater now belongs to me. What are you going to do with the sweater?" Is this guy serious? Is he for real? Since Mr. Gibson told me on the phone he was willing to only compensate me for half the cost of the sweater, I had specifically told him NOT to send me any money as I would be filing a formal complaint with the BBB. If he had chosen to send me the check anyway, then that's his perogative. Mr. Gibson then told me that he does not have the sweater and would need to "go get it". How convenient for you Mr. Gibson...! So...two days later I received Mr. Gibson's check in the mail and it was in the amount of the full cost of the sweater. I noticed that although the check was dated prior to my visit to retrieve my sweater, it was POSTMARKED the afternoon of my visit (I visited him in the morning). Why didn't Mr. Gibson just agree to pay me the full amount to begin with as opposed to creating such a hostile environment? Why did he now all of a sudden change his mind? I can only surmise that he was trying to see if I would go away and he can get away with this. Since he has now closed his Southport store, he probably figure that I would not bother to go all the way to his Irving Park store, and thus he wouldn't be losing a client. Mr. Gibson, it was only 30 bucks. Is 30 bucks worth all of this??? read more

I've been going to Gibson's for years and highly recommend them. They always do a good job with my garments and I have not had any problems - which with dry cleaners can be a bit of an issue. Furthermore, one day I needed something really quick and the staff went above and beyond to get it done for me. They've done alterations for me with no problem. I highly recommend them (although they will cost more than some of the quick-service dry cleaners out there - the price is not that much more and frankly it's worth it for the work they do). I haven't had a bad experience with them and I bring them a lot of dry cleaning! read more
