Looking for a notebook? Looking to drop that old Pentium POS and step up to something better, faster and lighter? Then don't go here. In the market for a notebook, I had gone to lenovo.com and configured a notebook. Just to give retailers a try, I stopped by a number of them including the Notebookshop.com Cerritos location. It was a waste of time. - The retail portion of the place is just the front office of a warehouse and it doesn't look presentable at all - The selection is poor, with an odd collection of brand offerings - The entire staff is Korean and even though I am Korean myself, I generally don't patronize Korean consumer good businesses - sans Korean restaurants and bars - because they exploit non-English speaking, not technically savvy Koreans into buying overpriced stuff they can normally get for less at mass market retailers - Their selection is overpriced... the sales person tried to pressure me into purchasing a notebook that had less features and an average reputation for notebooks (Fujitsu) - I told the salesperson that I was looking for a notebook with a built-in mobile broadband card... he misunderstood and pointed out the AGN card on the Fujitsu. No, buddy... I said wireless broadband / WAN, not a simple wireless card - There's no way to configure much of anything. Sure if you want to buy a preconfigured computer, that's great... but for anyone who has specific needs (such as a mobile broadband card), you want the flexibility. What if you don't want a 5,400rpm hard drive? What if you want 7,200rpm or a SSD (solid state drive) instead? Not possible here. (although I have to say that even Best Buy nor Fry's offers much customization save for HP, I believe... but HP computers are crap anyways so that's irrelevant) To cut a long story short, I ended up buying a Lenovo with the premium bells and whistles for $400 less than the Fujitsu the salesperson at Notebookshop.com pointed me to. Full retail on the Lenovo is actually higher, but with the current sale going on til the 29th of September, plus a discount code I found online, I ended up with a better computer for less money. The lesson here is buying direct from the manufacturer - which is the norm for computers nowadays - is more efficient, completely customizable and saves you money. I had a HP laptop and the screen cracked so I bought a new one. The person who initially installed it left the cable a little loose; so it would flicker on and off. Long story short, they gave it back to me after charging me over $100.00 and the laptop worked for 1 day or so, and after that completely crashed and didn't work at all. I was looking for a place to get my 5 year old laptop fixed and I thought I'd give them a try because I live in Cerritos and their location was convenient. It turned out my battery was going bad. Since I always keep my laptop plugged in they told me just to leave it out which took care of my problem. It was also running slow so they recommended I bring it in sometime so they could run some diagnostics on it and delete whatever malware they found. So I dropped it off one day after work and was able to to pick it up the next day. For only $75 they got rid of over 150 malware, deleted a bunch of cookies, did a defrag and some other stuff (I'm not a techie so I don't remember it all). They also recommended a couple of great ad ons (ad block and ghostery). I saw Michael the first visit and Andy the 2nd. They were both really helpful. I will definitely recommend them to others and will go back if I need additional repairs or to buy my next laptop. So glad they are nearby! read more

My husband's laptop wouldn't turn on at all, so we brought it into the Notebook Shop. They called to say that it would cost $400 to repair the laptop due to a bad motherboard. We decided not to repair and just paid $50 to diagnose and transfer files to an external hard drive. We stopped by with an external hard drive and was told the "technician" wasn't in on a Saturday afternoon, so we had to come back another day. Mm..not sure why you would need a technician to drag files to a hard drive, but ok. My husband came back with the external hard drive on another day, they transferred the files, and he brought the laptop home. My husband detached all the connections to the motherboard, reapplied them, and now the laptop works fine. We're disappointed with the service and misdiagnosis we received at the Notebook Shop and will not be returning here. read more

I've gone here for all my laptops but I won't be coming back anymore. This guy who helped me was quite annoying. I really didn't want McAfee installed onto my laptop and wanted a different program for personal reasons but he kept pestering me about why I don't trust McAfee and that it's a good program because it's a company under Microsoft. So I had to get McAfee for my computer and it's still annoying me. And the laptop I bought did not satisfy me...he gave me the laptop that was on display instead of a new one from the stockroom (who know's how long it's been out there??). The laptop had many awkward problems that even simple computers don't have a problem with, like making the computer have a foreign language keyboard without turning the Internet browser to default on the foreign language. It took the main technician guy a while to figure that out, too. It also lagged and froze quite frequently for a new computer (it did this within the first two weeks of me having it). read more

I've loved my Touchscreen Dell Inspiron laptop that I bought on a great sale back in 2014 for $399. It had a 1TB hard drive and 8GB of Ram. It had been running slow and within the last couple of weeks strange things had been happening. Of course, I hadn't backed everything up, so started getting busy. Unfortunately, I hadn't finished when it completely stopped working. I was panicked. I took it down to The Notebook Shop here in Cerritos, and they did a complete diagnostics on it for free. They were able to clone all of my files, and they replaced the original analog hard drive with a digital hard drive (I think these are the technical terms) and load all of my files back on. The destop looks exactly the same as when I took it in, and I feel like a have a new computer for a little over $200! I had my computer back in a day or two. They could easily have said a computer this old isn't worth fixing, but they worked their magic on it. Trying to replace what this computer had with a new computer might have cost me $1000 or more, based on what I've seen lately. I know I was lucky mine was able to be repaired, but before you dump a computer you've loved, I'd suggest you try The Notebook Shop if you live anywhere near Cerritos! I love this place! read more

I had two problems that they fixed. One was a broken laptop screen. That was fixed while I waited -- about 20 minutes. The other was an external hard drive that was acting up. I had a lot of duplicate data as backup, but there was also a lot of other data that I was storing on it including my Itunes library. I took it in and they were pessimistic because when such external drives fail, they are usually done for. However, they did manage to hook it up, and see that it was still alive. I am assuming the problem was with the connector and they could bypass that and directly hook into the drive. They were able to back up my data, but due to it being over 500 Gb, I had to bring in a another drive as it was too much for DVDs and would take too long. I brought in the second drive the next day, and left it overnight for backup. It was only $75.00. The last time years ago I recovered a hard drive that failed that was only a fraction of the size of this one it cost me over $500. Great, helpful staff and honest information up front. read more
