The restaurant was considerably more busy than last time (a sign of their quick success). Regardless, we were greeted and seated promptly. Three things not to miss. Frites - order them slightly crispy - could be the best in town Buffalo Crepe - what a flavor bomb - just the right amount of spicey sauce and blue cheese funk. Moelleux Au Chocolat - the best dessert I've had in years. Just awesome! The owners are PLU (people like us). Two hard workers making a go of their restaurant. Maggie spent a good deal of time chatting with us. Her delightful French accent compliments her welcoming warmth. Hopefully the Napa community continues to support their efforts. Soft Opening. We were invited to secure a reservation for Normandie's soft opening. I gather from conversation had that Wednesday was for friends/investors, Thursday to Saturday nights were open to the public. We dined on Friday night. Much thought must go into such a venture, and getting the kinks out early is important. Service was not managed well. Courses were rushed and the owners got their feelings bruised when we asked for the opportunity to finish our food before presenting a fresh course. An attempt was made to rearrange the table so the owner could set dishes. However, we asked the food be returned to the kitchen to let us eat what was already before us. Between courses, dirty silverware was properly collected but no fresh silverware offered prior to the next course. We sought both owners who were very busy. The busser was very busy. So we asked the bartender to assist, which he attempted to do. Just as he approached our table with a tray of silverware, the owner shooed him away. She did not delve into why he approached, nor did she ask us if we needed assistance, she just seemed annoyed. We had to catch her while she walked away. Finally, 3 knives and 2 fresh forks were secured. The lobster presentation table side was performed upon a cart higher than we could view from our seats at the dining table. All we could see was the bottom of the pan and flames. A problem during the lobster show: The cart is rather chunky and staff could not navigate the walkway between the bar and dining tables, so they had to walk outside and enter the back of the dining room via another door facing the river to attend to guests seated further back in the dining room. Food was overcooked. The goat cheese soufflé was baked to the consistency of a quiche. Duck breast ordered rare was served well done, then remade and served rare. Duck was not of the quality expected. Lamb and beef dishes were also overcooked and with too much salt. Lobster from the table-side spectacle was not pleasing to the palate, overcooked, and presentation on the plate was a muddle of the sauce aside pre-plated vegetables that were cold. Bar drinks were a hit and miss, likely our palate preferences. But perhaps a martini well chilled should arrive with shards of ice floating atop. A bottle of wine was flawlessly served with small pours from one of the owners throughout our meal, allowing the delicious cold juice to be consumed leisurely and by those diners preferring more pours. The wine list is nice and the bar great potential to be a gathering spot. During dinner we were reminded many times that we were attending their soft opening and to excuse the odd calamity that may occur. We tried to be honest when asked our opinions, and encouraged the owners when they seemed frustrated. We think their venture and vision should have an opportunity to come into a matured reality and success. No dessert was ordered. The check was presented with the duck removed from the bill. But we were presented with a full bill - this was not the traditional soft opening bill we expected. I thought perhaps the soft opening would be 50% off menu, but I was wrong. So to the point the owners consistently impressed upon us that we were at a soft opening, well, from our point of view we were not. Full fare for the 3rd night in, boo boos and all. Normandie was short on staff, so any industry folks may find a position waiting or an opportunity to transfer to this new restaurant. Surely the kitchen will find their footing and become familiar with the recipes and seasonings. Napa is a food town. Locals and tourists expect good food, proper service, and an experience to remember. I wish Normandie all the good vibes. read more

First time trying this restaurant and I have no complaints. It was delicious especially the seafood pasta and the salted caramel Martini. So delicious! The service was on point as well as soon as we walked in without an appointment we were acknowledged and got seated. Small place inside but they have nice outdoor sittings as well with the waterfront view. Ill be back! read more

They have a wide variety of French wines selected by owner, Maggy. She and her husband have been in hospitality for many years and have put together a terrific menu for lunch and dinner. I've enjoyed twice in the last few weeks. Responsible pricing- great options.... We enjoyed the lobster bisque- different with the crispy shallot/or onion... but flavor was top notch- thinner than usual- but so was the one at Eiffel in Las Vegas and it was the best! The lunch dining experience at Normandie Restaurant & Martini Bar was excellent. We started the meal with the Chevre & Roquette Salad. It was the perfect tone setter for the meal. The warmed goat cheese kind of steals the show but it pairs very well with the baby arugula and vinaigrette dressing. My main course was the Normandie Burger. The burger was cooked perfectly. Very juicy with lots of flavor built into the patty. Triple Cream Brie on a burger is a wonderful choice and one I will be making for myself at home going forward. My wife ordered the Steak Frites which she loved. There has been some comparison to the Steak Frites at Angele in the other reviews and the main difference seems to be with the cut of steak. The NY Steak seems to be the preferred cut for my wife giving the edge to Normandie over Angele, but "To each their own." We finished the meal with the Mango NY Cheesecake. Solid dessert, no complaints. We had a wonderful time at Normandie and would love to dine here again. They have a wonderful wine and cocktail list that'd I'd love to take a closer look at next time. read more

The least French restaurant I have ever been to! Normandie, I should have left when I saw a buffalo crepe on the menu. This restaurant was highly recommended, but I can't for the life of me understand why. I felt like I was being "Punked" the decor was as bad as the food and the service was even worse than all of the wine boxes and cardboard trash next to the bar. I lived in Napa for 20 years, and love to visit and eat great food, this was the worst experience I've had eating in Napa. I can't imagine that they will last. I would NEVER go to this place again. I noticed the table behind us got a few orders messed up. Then when our food came out, it was the wrong fish entree, the beef Wellington was over done with nothing on the inside of the puff pastry. When I got the bill and looked over it I was charge for wine I did not order. Charged for the fish entree I didn't order. I was then brought someone else's leftovers. Service terrible!!!! Never got more water, never asked if we needed anything after the food was brought. This place is a joke!!! There are at least 3 places on this same block I would go to and spend my money at!!! Came in for a table but the place was full, so I sat at the bar and I'm glad I did. The food really stands out: clean flavors, well balanced, and beautifully plated without overdoing it. Normandie Restaurant just opened on Monday and they are already throwing down--they are definitely going to be a main character in the napa restaurant scene. Classic French, elegant, solid martinis (the salted caramel martini is bananas), and a lovely vibe. Sit outside and enjoy the river scene and it almost feels like Paris. 10/10 read more

To celebrate the special birthday of my #1 grandson I chose Normandie. It had just opened and I was amazed how beautiful this restaurant is. The famous French blue color, interpreted Napa style, made the walls shine! I ordered the special rice dish to start since I am gluten free and it was delicious. Adam had the mixed salad and we shared the rack of lamb because he wanted the special dessert, made at the table, to celebrate. Itwas a lunch meal after all! The white wine was ambrosia to me. Perfecto! I will edit this later to include the names of everything we had but wanted to encourage people to book this place NOW. Our party of 4 dined yesterday, and rarely have I visited a newly opened restaurant that was doing so well. The service, presentation, food preparation, quality of ingredients were all reflective of a team that has a combined decades of service working in hospitality. This place was so good. It was only their 4th day in business and everything ran smoothly. The food and service were excellent. The goat cheese souffle was amazing. We also had the pear in filo, the rack of lamb, the sea bass and the risotto. All were very good. The service was attentive and they were completely accommodating of various food allergies, customizing dishes for us as needed. The restaurant business is hard. Do not waste your time or money at this restaurant. The service and staff was not knowledgeable about anything French. The duck breast was advertised on the menu was served with a duck thigh and both were terrible. The lobster prepared at the table was a bumbling disgusting disappointment. It was served with bacon and tomato with a dusting of Parmesan cheese, heavy portion of minced garlic, red bell pepper and a secret heavy cream sauce. It was tough and very salty.
