The restaurant description is accurate. It's fine dining without the frills. The restaurant felt open and welcoming. The tables were bare, but it went with the vibe. We were seated on the main level and we could see into the kitchen. Things looked to be working well. Our table of four decided to order ala carte. We got the truffle crostini, hamachi, and risotto for starters. All of these dishes were great. The black truffle crostini was delicious and the hamachi flavors were clean and fresh. The risotto had a great balance of flavors too. For mains I got the angolotti and the rest of the table shared the beef special. It was a combo of filet and ribeye. It was a huge plate. It was good for four people to share. I don't eat beef, but the rest of my table loved the dish. read more

I was talking to a friend about how I loved coming across morels at a different restaurant and she recommended that I stop by. I love that they serve the entire menu at the bar. I honestly wanted to try every mushroom option they had but for balance, I ended up going with the 3 item prix fixe menu we're doing. I started with the mushroom soup, and this was definitely the star of the meal- this is a must try if you are a mushroom lover. They are able to create something so rich and decadent without using any cream at all, Which is my favorite part, side of how wonderful the flavors were. The grilled cheese was such a cherry on top. I had scallops after and they were good. I would say my least favorite part was the Panna cotta Yuzu sorbet dessert. The flavors were interesting but I just found there was too much sorbet compared to the Panna cotta ratio. The service was good. The courses came out promptly and the bartender kept everything at the bar flowing smoothly. I am looking forward to coming back to try other items on the menu for sure. $135 for a whole chicken that was sooooo bland. I would rather have a costco rotisserie chicken for $4.99. I could have ordered 27 costco chicken and be very happy and feed so many people AND Morgan did not tell us the price. I would totally be willing to pay for it if it was crispy and seasoned but it was so bland!!!! Loved our experience at Torc! To start I had the Jamon Iberico De Bellota which was the perfect light little ham dish. For my main I had the Duck Egg Molet which was actually phenomenal. I also finished my meal with a Carajillo - a new cocktail to me but recommended by our waiter and busser which was absolutely fantastic. Service could not have been better. Our waiter and the coinciding busser truly made our experience better. They both deserve a promotion. Ambiance is nice, a little bit too open and airy for my liking but not bad whatsoever. Tempura Squash Blossoms ( always a classic here ... way before other retaurants ) 3. Tortelli with mushrooms and heirloom tomatoes ( yum) 4. Chocolate dessert Everything intentional about each culinary choice. Chef O'Toole is always on site and deeply cares about his art. Still chooses everything that goes into all his dishes early every morning not letting a single thing go to chance! We had an enjoyable dinner at Torc, and dined upstairs which was cozy and nice, and not too warm. We had a reservation and were seated promptly. I had the January restaurant month menu, and had the mushroom soup, halibut and red velvet dessert. The mushroom soup had a really nice panini with cheese which went well with it. The halibut also had mushrooms, and spinach. The flavors of both dishes were unique and delicious. The red velvet was a little strange, I didn't really like the texture of the cake, it was more like a soft brownie, and it had sour cream cheese droplets with a sweet red sauce. The ice cream was the best part of it. My daughter enjoyed her large scallops which came in a nice lobster sauce. Service was excellent, and our server was helpful when we asked questions. read more

Very disappointing experience from start to finish. The service seemed good at first, but everything went downhill once the food arrived. We ordered the 30-day aged steak expecting something flavorful and high quality, but it was absolutely pathetic -- dry, bland, and completely lacking seasoning or taste. I honestly make better steak at home. On top of that, they garnished it with shredded cheese, which completely ruined the presentation and made no sense for a steak dish. Who even does that? The manager took our drink order, and the drinks came out quickly, but after the food was served, nobody came back to check on us even once. No one asked how the food was, if we needed anything, or if everything was okay. For a restaurant trying to present itself as upscale, the customer service was extremely careless. We asked for a spicy sauce, and what they brought tasted awful and looked like something thrown together at the last minute. When we politely asked for Tabasco sauce instead, the staff responded with attitude and were very rude, as if we were asking for something unreasonable. The most shocking part was the open kitchen. We could clearly see one of the chefs eating fries while cooking orders. Completely unprofessional and unhygienic. Watching the kitchen staff casually eat while preparing food destroyed whatever confidence we had left in the restaurant. Overall, this place is overpriced, overrated, and poorly managed. Bad food, rude attitude, and zero attention to customers once they take your money. There are far better restaurants out there that actually care about food quality and customer experience. I have always wanted to try Torc but could not get a reservation. Last Friday, my husband and I walked in and ready to just sit at the bar. Luckily, it was still early and was able to enjoy our dinner upstairs. We started with deviled eggs and hamachi tartare and both were absolutely delicious. My main course of short rib was amazing. It was very tender and flavorful. The scallops were also good. To top off dinner, we opted for the carrot cake! Service is wonderful. We are Napa locals and visited Torc for the first time and left really disappointed, especially given the pricing. The "wedge" salad was two small gem hearts with a few pieces of radish and two slices of sweet pickle. The dressing was an unusual flavor combination that didn't work at all. The "Lobster Thermidor" was cooked properly and had a nice flavor, but it didn't resemble the classic dish and the portion was really small. It also included little mandarin slices, which felt out of place. It was served with a very small amount of plain white rice that tasted packaged and added nothing to the plate. For close to $50, it needed more effort, balance, and substance. Dessert was also a miss. The panna cotta was extremely small, had a rubbery texture, and was overwhelmed by multiple scoops of sweet/tangy sorbet, marmalade, and a meringue-like garnish. It didn't feel like panna cotta at all. Service was not great but I think that is a result of the management. When we mentioned to the manager that we were pretty disappointed and asked to share feedback, he said, "Okay, why don't you pay the bill then I'll come back and hear what you have to say." That response made it clear our experience wasn't a priority. I think if you are going to charge a certain price there is an expectation that comes along with that. Outstanding menu with so many tantalizing offerings! We could have just ordered the black truffle grilled cheese appetizer all night with our bubbles! Our birthday party of four were all rolling our eyes back in our heads with each bite! The filet with sauce Béarnaise over asparagus is definitely in the top three of all steaks offered in the Napa Valley, if not #1! The food was amazing! We ordered the jamon iberico, deviled eggs version of green eggs and ham, and the days special Ribeye. The way we're all delicious! Of course we took the Ribeye leftovers home and cooked it up the next day for steak and eggs breakfast. The service was quick and attentive. The seating was spaced out nicely so people didn't feel cramped. We did sit in the corner by the window and it was pretty cold with the AC blowing directly at us. The three of us came here for dinner after wine tasting tonight. Let me say that the food was good. The low star review is for service. We had a 7:00 reservation and were seated promptly. The waitress told us about the specials and we ordered 3 entrees and a side to share. Then we proceeded to chat away, we even chatted with the wonderful lady next to us and we saw her getting her wonderful appetizer, then entree, etc. Another couple came after us at the bar also got their food. After 45 min wait we were pretty hungry. I checked with the waitress and she said food should be coming up. The restaurant was busy but not full. We finally got our food afterwards after 7:50. There was no apologies or mentioned about why the delay. Is that because of skin color that we were not treated the same as the other patrons? I am not sure but the service was definitely different with our table vs the ones around us. I want to make sure everyone knows that the food was actually great and definitely at a fine dining level. Excellent food and very good service. But the noise level is extreme. My husband has an app that measures sound levels (for work) - he measured an average of 90 decibels, with peaks at 104. Conversation was nearly impossible without shouting. I still don't know what the specials were, as I couldn't hear the server. I said pardon twice, then gave up, smiled, and nodded. The space is beautiful, but it desperately needs ceiling treatments or acoustic panels to absorb the sound. With adjustments, this would be a fantastic dining experience. One of my favorite Napa dinner spots! Amazing service, fresh quality ingredients, unique menu. I really enjoyed the hamachi tartare and the cod they had that day - it was melt-in-your-mouth with the perfect combination of flavors. I've eaten at plenty of restaurants in Napa, and I kinda feel that Torc is pretty underrated. They serve consistently great food that's as enjoyable as just about any other great restaurant in Napa. One of the great things about this place is the Bubble Baller Flight. It's a flight of 4 great champagnes: Cristal, Dom, Krug, and Ruinart. I've done it a couple times and each time the glasses were fully effervescent. No flat glasses. It comes with a baller price tag, but it's not often you get to have a tasting of such fine champagnes. For me, the pasta is the star here; though, really, all their food is good. And they do like their truffles here. Here's what I tried on my last outing: - Bengali sweet potato pakora with yogurt-truffle dip: these were a tasty little starter. Little potato balls with a unique tasting dip. They do give you way more dip than is necessary, but I'll get these again next time as they were good and a relative bargain on the menu. - tempura squash blossoms with yuzu dip and shichimi-togarashi: good fried squash blossom dish. They're not filled; rather they have the dip to go with them. These are also tasty but were a little redundant since we got the pakora dish. - radiatori with pomodoro, heirloom tomato, Parmesan, and truffle: yum. You just can't go wrong with the pasta here. They rich and tasty. Portions aren't huge but since they are a bit heavy, you probably wouldn't want a much larger serving. - diver scallops: I forget what all the other sauces and accoutrements were with this dish, but these were just great seared scallops with an amazing sauce to match. read more

Came here for restaurant week some weeks ago and to be honest, I wasn't blown away. Maybe it's just me being naive, but restaurant week should be an opportunity to show off their best dishes. I have to admit that the artichoke soup was amazing! Everything else was pretty mediocre. But all in all, there was one thing that stood out and NOT in a good way. The dessert option was a red velvet, my fav go-to. Oddly, it was deconstructed into 3 piles and had the strangest sour gelatinous blob on top of each one. It ended up being yuzu jelly. As if that weren't odd enough, there were random dollops of beet puree spread around the plate. Traditionally, red velvet is cocoa cake colored with beet juice, but I never would've thought any chef in his right mind would dare put plain ol' beet puree. It tasted so earthy that there's no possible way it belonged anywhere near a dessert. When I asked the waiter to confirm whether or not my palette was correct about the yuzu, he co-signed that thought. He asked my opinion and I told him I was NOT a fan. He then looked surprised ( almost offended) and said "hmmm.... this is everyone's favorite dish". Came here for dinner with a friend. Had never been there before, although I had walked by for many years. What a wonderful experience in terms of the food service the ambience and the overall experience of being there. We started with a couple of appetisers which included the Tartare and the salad. Both were beautifully refreshing and a great way to start dinner. We had brought some of our own wine and we started with a southern France blend - great wine pairing. We then moved onto the intermediate meal, which was the risotto special of the day. I'm not a big risotto fan, but I love the way that they cooked the risotto and the texture. Very well worthwhile dish. Entree was the 60 day Porterhouse cooked to perfection. Medium rare large size New York strip and fillet sides very well prepared and very gamy. The wine for dinner was appropriate Napa cab 2007 and worked exceptionally well with C gaminess of the steak. wonderful combination We continued. We continued with a, couple of desserts and as I'm not a dessert fan that's not something I can comment on although the Panacota was enjoyed. First time to visit Torc and had a wonderful experience. We were able to choose upstairs to r downstairs for our dinner and chose downstairs which was a little more lively. Had to wait a big longer than normal to get a server to our table but other than that the experience was very nice. Great drink menu, nice menu selection, and nice ambience. I was told that this place serves "Napa" food by a local friend. I interpreted that to mean farm to table, elevated dishes at an elevated price... and I wasn't wrong on that. The menu is full of unique dishes, many of whose ingredients I needed to google. Lol! The drink menu is several pages long so you'll have plenty to choose from. I wasn't drinking ETOH tonight since I was solo and get buzzed too easily. After waiting over 15 minutes for a server to come to the table to take my order, I was just about to leave. There were many many servers working the floor and there were a lot of empty tables so it's not like they look short staffed to me. I don't know if people just assume someone else was going to take my table and I'm a pretty patient person but I was seriously about to get up and walk out and until a waitress came over. I mentioned to her that I was about to leave because it had been at least 15 minutes. But I decided to give this restaurant a a chance, but this is the reason I'm only giving it 4 stars. I did enjoy the Sweet Potato Pakoras... that yogurt dipping sauce was the perfect accompaniment. They weren't overly fried and the seasonings were very nice. For my entree, I went with the Rigatonicini and really enjoyed the fresh crisp sugar snap peas, lightly creamy sauce and surprisingly sweet beef ragu. It was the perfect amount of food. Wow, what a great dining experience! We were in Napa and chose this spot based on reviews and ease of getting a reservation, and it did not disappoint. Everything was outstanding, including the personable and attentive service. The tomato salad and pork chop were standouts -- both very fresh with unique flavors. I wasn't overly hungry, so I opted for the corn soup, which was flavorful, and we shared a side of fries that were perfectly crispy with a tasty mayo-based dipping sauce. They asked if we were celebrating anything, and when we mentioned our anniversary, they surprised us with a complimentary coconut lime sorbet. Went for restaurant week last night and had the artichoke velouté with a fancy mini grilled cheese topper (absolutely delish!), the black cod (yummy sauce with choice mushrooms) and the red velvet cake (the presentation made me think the cake fell apart when cut... maybe it was intentionally deconstructed but it any case it hit the spot). All were very tasty and washed down with two NA Seedy Thai Margs since I'm doing Dry January -- I gulped those down quickly since they were so damn good. For dinner we ordered the Filet and the Ziti Carbonara. Both were quite good! I don't care for sugar snap peas in my carbonara, that was a bit unusual. It wasn't bad but I could've done without it. For dessert we wanted cookies and ice cream so we asked them if we could get the cookie duo and instead of the berry cookie, we replace it with ice cream. We even said we don't mind if we're upcharged, and they still said no, which seemed a bit stupid. They only offered to replace the berry cookie with another chocolate one, which we agreed to. Seems incredibly pretentious that the restaurant sells french fries but doesn't have any ketchup in the restaurant. Instead they provide you with "their version" of ketchup which is awful. Stop overthinking it and just have some Heinz in the back, or take the stuff that traditionally comes with ketchup off the menu. read more
