We made a reservation to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. I highly recommend adding notes to your reservation because we truly felt like VIPs throughout our visit! I can't even name all the staff who "knew" about our special day and stopped by our table to congratulate us or bring us a special little treat! Sophia handled our table service so beautifully. John described each item as it came to our table in a way that was almost poetry. We met the manager Ryan and had a lovely conversation! He had the chef come out so we could rave about the hamachi and oysters in person! We asked the Somm Estevan to make a wine recommendation to match our main (a shareable plate of peppercorn short rib) and he did NOT MISS. So yummy! They even had flowers in a vase on our table from their garden and let us take them home. SO MANY SPECIAL TOUCHES. And though it's not pictured, the sourdough ice cream was just B E Y O N D What an experience. We will be back again and again. Sadly was not impressed with this place -- there's a ton of bird poop everywhere - they had to wipe some off so we could sit and then literally had one go on me while I was sitting. Food felt like they were trying too hard to be different but none of the flavor combinations were a home run. My least fav was the nori'os (not in the picture). The cod was the only dish I'd recommend but it's unfortunately not stand out enough to make a visit worthwhile. This review is solely for The Bear restaurant at Stanley Ranch. The drive into Stanley Ranch is beautiful, and the resort itself feels incredibly exclusive and luxurious. The restaurant is absolutely stunning, with thoughtful design details both inside and out. Given the reputation of the resort and the glowing reviews I'd seen, I was expecting five-star food and service. We chose to sit outside since the weather was beautiful. However, there were a few things that made the experience a bit uncomfortable for me personally. The outdoor dining area is lined with string lights, which also seemed to provide plenty of spots for birds to fly around and perch. Throughout the meal, I found myself constantly worried that either I or my food was going to get pooped on. As for the service, it seemed like several different servers were tending to our table, yet service was surprisingly slow and there were a few mistakes with our orders. Nothing major, but worth noting. For example, our coffee was delivered by someone other than our server, and after waiting quite a while, we eventually had to get up and ask for a spoon to stir it ourselves because no one came by. We were also never offered a coffee refill. Again, these aren't huge issues, but they contributed to the overall experience and help explain my rating. When it comes to the food, everything was beautifully presented, but the actual flavors were somewhat lackluster and disappointing. The lox Benedict looked gorgeous but fell short. The English muffin was freezing cold, as if it had come straight from the refrigerator. The eggs were cold, and so was the hollandaise sauce. The lamb shakshuka was, once again, beautifully presented and very hearty. If you enjoy lamb, I would recommend this dish. The waffles sounded fantastic on the menu, but in reality tasted like standard diner waffles. We also ordered the fried chicken sandwich, which was just okay. The chorizo and potato frittata was probably the most disappointing dish we received. Aside from a few potato crumbles on top, it felt more like a basic egg bake. It desperately needed salt and something additional to elevate the flavor. This is that it girl place! We came here for breakfast and was a welcoming atmosphere for us. They took our name then got us seated without a reservation. Most importantly the food was really good! The flavor, the taste, all balanced out. The service I received was also great and the food came in a timely manner. I recommend the steak and eggs in a medium rare which was the one my boyfriend got. The steak was just the perfect amount of tender and juicy. My friend and I came here on a beautiful day, and the patio dining was unmatched. Overlooking the grounds of the Stanly Ranch Resort, the Bear restaurant served up the perfect ambiance for a casual yet elegant brunch. Service was friendly and generally attentive. The pace was perfect where we never felt rushed. I am unsure about their day-to-day menu, as on this Saturday all that is offered our brunch menu items. We opted to share the prosciutto toast and the smoked salmon benedict. My friend also ordered a mocktail. Everything is presented beautifully, however, I wouldn't say that it is at the top of my list of brunch spots for flavors. The food was all a little bit saltier and more tart than I would prefer. Nothing we ordered would be something I would choose again. Separately, we were celebrating my birthday, and a nice card and the tiniest of ice cream scoop was presented at the end. You may want to capture some outdoor photos after your meal although there aren't a lot of varying photo spots around the property as everything is pretty similar from every angle that you stand. My husband and I stayed at Stanly Ranch for my birthday/easter weekend and decided to try Bear! We had our dog with us so we sat outside. It was a beautiful view of the property from our seats. The food was sooo good! The Kampachi was very refreshing especially paired with the crispy rice. The sourdough bread was made in house and is also something you need to try. For entrees, we had scallops and quail and those dishes were delicious. Pro tip: if there are no reservations online, you can ask the front desk if you're staying at the hotel and they can potentially find a table for you! I had high expectations for Bear at Stanley Ranch. While the brunch was great, the dinner really fell flat for us. The menu leans heavily into Asian fusion, and the execution felt a little forced. The crispy rice came highly recommended, but it was honestly nothing memorable. We also ordered the highly recommended peppercorn short rib, which was $100 for two people. Portion-wise it was plenty of food, but the ssam-style presentation felt unnecessary and didn't really elevate the dish. At that price point, I expected something a bit more cohesive and refined. The remainder of the meal (salad and small dishes) were fine, with the tartare with sunchoke being the highlight. I appreciated the fresh local produce used, but would have loved if the menu highlighted what actually came from the Stanley Ranch gardens that day. The biggest issue was that the Asian influence didn't feel particularly authentic or intentional. This is such an amazing and cute restaurant! Our favorites of the evening were absolutely the farm vegetables and the half chicken. For vegetable lovers, the farm vegetables are a must-order. They were complemented so well with the miso dip. The half chicken was surprisingly tender, and the sauce was flavorful and almost addicting. The only major drawback was an issue with server hygiene. I observed the server at the host stand use her finger to scrape food from between her teeth twice, immediately before leading us to our table and handing us the menus. Wow! This is a relatively new farm-to-table restaurant nestled in Stanly Ranch, that appears to be a new home development with several shops. Gavel, a nice coffee store, was our first stop. We talked with the on-premise farmer about his work with herbs and vegetables and complimented him on probably the best broccolini we have tasted. The fresh vegetable medley was excellently served in a wood cork bowl with a nice dip. There were vegetables we have never seen like a Cucamelon which looked like a half-inch watermelon and had a cucumber taste. They actually grow this summer delicacy on the property. The apple-nut-Apple pancake was a nice brunch addition. And then there was the side bowl of mixed berries The service was great. They have a nice patio that we didn't try. Great experience with Rebecca at brunch serving us celebrating our anniversary and I'm glad we chose this place as it was close to our hotel. The property is amazingly beautiful and the food is excellent. Food isn't as good as the Bay Area at this price point though but service made up for it. Everyone was amazing but Rebecca was really good. Even after the service she was very friendly when we ran into her outside and we felt genuine kindness. She got huge splashes of champagne (more like a pour) which was generously on the house for celebration and she helped us take nice photos for remembrance. Loved the cocktail as it was well balanced like she promised and the lavender didn't overpower. Wife likes the oysters which she never does because It's never fresh enough as she's comparing to straight from the water but she really liked these. The chips were house made and unique flavors with large purple potatoes taste almost like fried seaweed. The main courses were lesser than the beginning of the meal but we still enjoyed our time. The veggie menu Egg Benedict was boring and bland and could have been way better. Wish I choose something else but many other options. Wow, what an amazing experience we had at Bear! Located within the Auberge at Stanly Ranch this property and restaurant are absolutely beautiful. Food was delicious, with the White Sea bass and Crispy Rice starter being the standout. Service was lovely and attentive. Great cocktails as well. Think our one complaint to no fault of the restaurants' was outdoor dining with little to no breeze meant lots of flies around us!!! They were kind enough to bring those bug fans for the table, but it was definitely a bit bothersome. Came here for my wife's bday on a Saturday morning. Beautiful setting, upscale, ton of natural lighting, open floor concept. We were checked in and seated indoors in the corner. The menu was simple and easy to follow. Mostly standard brunch dishes and options. After 5-7 minutes of being seated, there was no server to greet us. After scanning the room, there were people standing around chatting and others doing downtime activities like folding napkins. I finally got up to ask the bus person on who our server was, he went to go find "him" in which a young lady by the name of Yalitza came to help. She took our drink orders. She then initially just brought out one coffee which my wife ordered. We had to remind her that I also ordered a coffee in which she went back to go grab it. We ordered the biscuit, shakshuka, salmon benedict, wagyu burger and the chicken cold noodles. The biscuit was our starter and was one of the best biscuits I've ever had. Perfect texture, buttery, fluffy and went perfect with the butter and jam. Our entrees came out afterward and I immediately had a feeling that my burger was not going to be cooked enough based on our experience at this place so far. My feelings were confirmed once I cut open into my burger. I ordered it medium and the center was completely raw. Disappointed, I went ahead and sent it back and declined for them to remake it, not being confident that the food won't be correct and/or compromised. My friends were generous enough to share their plates and I had an opportunity to taste the rest. The shakshuka was pretty good, it had the right spices and the sausage was a nice addition. The Benedict was spot on. The chicken cold noodles lacked flavor and saltiness. Overall the food was pretty good but the service and execution of my dish fell flat which was disappointed coming from a place like this. I will not return and hope they tighten things up for future visitors. They did take care of the drinks and "removed" the burger that I did not eat.. management came to address the issue but I was already too disappointed after this point. read more

Bear is definitely a beautiful restaurant with great atmosphere so we had high expectations. However, we were so disappointed with our whole dining experience. To be honest, the food wasn't great and our server was so slow and nonchalant. The food took awhile to come out and once it came out, she never came back to check on us once. We were honestly expecting more from a fancier high end restaurant. I shared a trout dish with couple friends and it was so bland, there was no seasoning. The scallop dish is pretty pricey but only came with 3 scallops and just sauce. The dishes were beautiful to look at but wasn't very tasty. The only dish I liked was probably the kampachi crudo dish. We also ordered couple crispy rice for the table to share and it was the weirdest crispy rice we've ever tasted. The sauce that was at the bottom of the dish was literally just fish sauce.. it was drenched. Also, the cocktails were not great. It was so sour that I had to ask someone (not our server since she never checked on us) and they "remade" it but it tasted just as bad. Probably our least favorite spot in Napa that we tried. If the food isn't as great, we at least expected good service but they were all subpar. For a place with such great reviews and known as a high-end restaurant, Bear was so disappointing. 3 stars for the ambience and interior of the restaurant and the other workers that was not our server was very friendly and nice so at least there's that. And the ice cream was actually really good. So kinda ended the dinner on a better note :) But if you're in Napa, there are so many other great restaurants to try without paying having to pay ~$100 per person for mid food and not so great service. read more

We were looking for somewhere to have dinner last minute while we were in Napa and we were able to get a 8 pm reservation for 2! When we arrived, the hostess asked us if we would prefer to sit inside or outside, and even encourage us to take a look outside before making our decision. We had a beautiful table outside in a corner booth. There are heaters on the ceiling and there are blankets offered as well in case you're cold. I have to say while the food was an amazing experience the service here is just on the next level. The food is a 10 out of 10 service is in 11 out of 10! As a vegetarian here, I really enjoyed the maitake mushroom - this is a MUST! And the arrabiata was spicy, creamy and very delicious. Another great choice. On the table is also lamb ribs, which was said to be spectacular! The sourdough, ice cream was exactly as described by our server sweet, but not too, sweet, tangy, slightly savoury notes - flavours that perfectly complement one another in ways you wouldn't expect! Our server Annebelle was so sweet, she helped us pick some great options to start with, and to have our main. She really went above and beyond to make our experience memorable it made us feel like it was a special occasion! My husband and I came for a Valentine's brunch and had a delightful time. I previously made a reservation, and we got seated quickly near a window table. The view and the interior are lovely, it makes you feel so cozy in here. Our server was really nice and the food was delicious! I ordered the shakshuka, my husband got the crispy chicken sandwich, and we got the prosciutto tartine to share. I enjoyed the shakshuka, the ingredients tasted fresh and the savoriness was a perfect way to start my day. I was inspired to visit after seeing a glowing post from a foodie I follow on Instagram--and she did not steer me wrong. We began our evening with cocktails at the bar while waiting for our table. (Pro tip: reservations are a must, so definitely plan ahead.) We were eventually seated outdoors--not my ideal--but I didn't want to wait an extra 30 minutes for an indoor table. Oddly, there wasn't an option to select indoor or outdoor seating during the reservation process or when checking in. Maybe I missed it, but it felt like a bit of an assumption. That said, the team made it comfortable by offering cozy blankets, which was a thoughtful touch. To start, we shared the Prawns and the Crispy Rice. Both were good, but the Crispy Rice really stood out--bursting with flavor, perfectly seasoned with a punchy fish sauce and fresh basil that tied everything together. For mains, we tried the Lamb Ribs and the Striploin. The lamb was a touch dry, but the Striploin was absolute perfection--tender, rich, and expertly cooked. On the side, we had the Little Gems (just okay, I'd skip next time), the New Potatoes (surprisingly unique and delicious), and the Stone Fruit--a must order. Bright, juicy, and beautifully composed. Dessert was an experience all its own. We had the Sourdough Break, a scoop of ice cream made from milk steeped in sourdough bread, topped with yeast caramel and delightful little crunchy bits--it was unexpected and so satisfying. We also tried the Meyer Lemon, which was a standout. Intensely tart in the best way, balanced with sweet, juicy strawberries and a crunchy pine nut shortbread that had a warm, gingery flavor reminiscent of a spiced cookie. wanted to share some feedback regarding our recent visit to Bear at Stanly Ranch. We make it a point to dine here whenever we visit Napa. During this visit, we ordered several dishes, including the farm salad, pasta, chicken strips, kampachi, and roast chicken. While we found the meal to be pleasant overall, I wanted to especially highlight the farm salad. Bear, located in the Stanly Ranch resort, embodied all the features of a high-end Californian eatery including local, seasonal ingredients, a modern atmosphere, friendly service, and high prices. I had a very mixed experience here--first of all, the service was a highlight, as the friendly servers showed us to our table and even chatted with us throughout the evening. Our water glasses never remained empty, and every staff member was super attentive. Second, we had some tasty bites including the Farm Vegetables, a crudite platter of raw and pickled seasonal vegetables including broccolini, cauliflower, radishes, gooseberries, carrots, and greens, all served with a deliciously creamy cashew-miso dip; and the Crispy Rice, which were cubes of crispy sushi rice flavored with a Southeast Asian-inspired nuoc cham (fish sauce), chilies, and coconut. We also had the Bison Tartare, minced raw bison mixed with horseradish crème fraiche, decorated with sliced and folded beets; and the Maitake, a side dish of battered mushrooms served with squash puree. While our first bites were tasty, the entrees completely fell flat. The Whole Trout was a butterflied, deboned trout, grilled and served over a lemongrass shoyu. Unfortunately, the skin of the trout was burnt and bitter, and the shoyu sauce was overwhelmingly salty. We also had the Lamb Ribs, which were grilled and flavored with pomegranate and pistachio--while I liked the flavor of the parts I could eat, the ribs too were burnt and turned out bitter and salty. When we alerted our server to this, she got a manager who took off a few items from our bill, but I felt that they could have been more proactive in fixing our dishes. Overall, while the service and ambiance were great, our experience with the food was mixed, and the menu prices were all extremely high for the small portion sizes (though I guess that's to be expected at a high-end resort). read more

Ooolala nice weekend away in Napa and we went to Bear - the restaurant located at Stanly Ranch in Napa! I'd like to note that I went once by myself for brunch on Sunday and once for breakfast with a group of 5 on Monday. Vibes/atmosphere: fantastic, super open air and summer feeling. encapsulates the winery vibes for sure. Service: wait staff was great, easy to flag down and always refilling our water. Wait times: Monday morning at 830am there was no wait. For sunday brunch I had a 1:30pm reservation for 1 and did not get seated until 1:45. Definitely make a reservation if coming at any peak times. Food: Overpriced for sure, but still good. Shakshuka was delicious and loved that it was served with focaccia. The waffles were good, very crispy as if deep fried. The chorizo frittata was also yummy, but overall it's just so hard to justify the price tag... $31 for shakshuka? ouch. Wine: I had two glasses of the Riesling when I dined alone and it was delicious. fantastic wine! In the end: while it is a nice spot to grab a bite while at Stanly Ranch, the food isn't so phenomenal that it justifies the price.
