Came here over Memorial Day weekend for a girls trip and enjoyed our experience here! We started with the Jamon Iberico appetizer. It was good, not much else to write about it haha. For dinner we ordered the Filet and the Ziti Carbonara. Both were quite good! I don't care for sugar snap peas in my carbonara, that was a bit unusual. It wasn't bad but I could've done without it. For dessert we wanted cookies and ice cream so we asked them if we could get the cookie duo and instead of the berry cookie, we replace it with ice cream. We even said we don't mind if we're upcharged, and they still said no, which seemed a bit stupid. They only offered to replace the berry cookie with another chocolate one, which we agreed to. Went for restaurant week last night and had the artichoke velouté with a fancy mini grilled cheese topper (absolutely delish!), the black cod (yummy sauce with choice mushrooms) and the red velvet cake (the presentation made me think the cake fell apart when cut... maybe it was intentionally deconstructed but it any case it hit the spot). All were very tasty and washed down with two NA Seedy Thai Margs since I'm doing Dry January -- I gulped those down quickly since they were so damn good. Wish they weren't $15/each though and the second would have come out in time for my main but c'est la vie! read more

The ambiance is pleasant and quiet - good for carrying on a conversation. The staff are friendly, helpful and attentive. The grilled cheese with black truffle at $46 was delicious and a good experience but not a great value. Would have preferred an entree at that price but definitely wanted to try the comfort food with black truffle. The other entrees (fettuccine, risotto) were delicious, well-seasoned and served at hood temperatures (warm to hot, as expected). The desserts were unique and that comes at a price. Seems incredibly pretentious that the restaurant sells french fries but doesn't have any ketchup in the restaurant. Instead they provide you with "their version" of ketchup which is awful. Stop overthinking it and just have some Heinz in the back, or take the stuff that traditionally comes with ketchup off the menu. read more

Has potential, but missed the mark. The hamachi tartare was easily the highlight of the night, and a really standout dish. It had the perfect combination of flavor and texture. The scallops were also good. The prices are higher than many Michelin star restaurants though, and unfortunately, a lot of the other dishes left quite a bit to be desired. Really good California cuisine with fresh ingredients; would definitely recommend! We tried: - deviled eggs were a playful take on green eggs and ham. Really fun and tasty, great filling with bacon bits for salt and texture - sweet potato pakora with truffle sauce; really well fried, sweet and salty bites - hamachi tartare was an eye-catcher, it was bright, acidic and quite tasty with nice texture from the sesame cracker. Avocado sauce lended nice creaminess to the dish but I did find myself wanting additional salt / richness - beet salad was beautifully plated and really tasty. Well balanced in terms of textures and flavors, definitely a memorable dish - ziti carbonara was absolutely great. The sauce was rich and flavorful and coated the noodles well. Snow peas were also a pleasant bite in there - campanelle mushroom bolognese was great as well. Great mushroom and umami flavor throughout the sauce. Pasta was well cooked and tasty - beef was perfectly cooked and very flavorful. Great crust and demi-glace and came with potato in two forms - chocolate marquise was good as well, very rich chocolate-y flavor with nice texture from the wafer as well - red velvet cake is deconstructed and fun to eat. Chef Sean O'toole did not disappoint!! Everything we tried was impeccable! Finger licking, plate licking, drop it on the table pick it up licking so good! This establishment has been around for about 10 years but this was my first time to experience these amazing flavor bursts! If you're in the Napa valley it's a must try!! We celebrated valentines day last weekend by having the most amazing steak dinner for two. But first my wife had a life changing gin martini. When we got home my wife realized she had left a wine bag at our table. She called and spoke with the Manager Scott. For dessert you MUST try the panna cotta; easily the best I have ever had and I am still thinking about it today. They had a really good drink selection, but the cocktails were a little weak for my preference. There was no miss with any of our selection. The stone fruit salad was really nice to start off with. All the protein we got- the scallop, pork shop, and the beef filet- were really well cooked and had a very nice twist on traditional proteins. High end, high quality restaurant in downtown Napa. The food quality was excellent, had the Short Rib with heart of palm. Didn't have potato other than fries but good portion and cooked perfect. We also had pea risotto. Great flavor and texture.Desserts excellent. Carrot cake and house made cookies. Service was prompt, water filled regularly, friendly and professional. One of the best features was the atmosphere. Older building with stone walls, open bar with view of chefs cooking. Will return again for sure! read more

Went upon a recommendation from a friend. We were promptly seated and provided water. Our server greeted us but spoke softly and seemed like always a step behind where we were in our meal and decision process. Their wine list has a unique section for some nicer wines by the glass that use the Coravin wine preservation system. So you can have it without buying the bottle. We had the bread appetizer. It was great with the whipped butter. (It's actually listed as a side not an app) We ordered the filet and the ziti. The ziti is described as a smaller dish and it was (a nice size to not be over full after eating). It tasted good. Would likely order that if returning. The filet was served with a gravy that resembled pot roast gravy with some pot roast shreds under the steak. It tasted good however I feel it took away from the steak. The grits were good and even better with some of the gravy. Maybe it was more intended for that anyway? The steak was tender and good flavor (without the gravy). Ordered it medium and it was med rare. Not a big deal as I can do either just fine. The restaurant is in a neat old stone/brick building. There's plenty of room so not overly crowded at your table. The assistants for the server were probably more attentive than our server- always keeping our waters full. All in all for the price, it seemed a little overpriced for the quality received. Good but pricy wine list. We enjoyed a few shared plates and fish and steak entrees. One appetizer had a sauce that was so burningly spicy I could barely eat it (but I worked around it- lol). Seemed to be an anomaly because all other flavors were delicious and balanced. Service was great at first, then we sat talking over dirty plates for almost half an hour. If you go, try several plates to share- you'll get a nice range of flavor, texture, and eye-pleasing goodness. read more

Our main entrees were ok, but not great. We had the beef short rib and lobster pasta. The coconut lime sorbet for dessert was delicious and refreshing! We sat outside and it was getting hot toward the 2pm mark at the end of the meal (July weather, maybe mid to high 80's during that time) and it was really cold inside with air conditioning. We have always wanted to try Torc! We went this weekend and found the ambiance, service and music selection exceptional:). The wait staff was accommodating, pleasant, attentive and professional. Let's get into it!!! The truffle grilled cheese, while pricey, did not disappoint; I mean truffles are expensive so I understand. And... you get truffles, not truffle seasoning, but actual truffles!!! This grilled cheese has ALL the things a comfort food should have, it's cheesy, gooey, buttery, crunchy on the edges and oh so satisfying:)!!! Get this one, you'll be happy you did! Next, we ordered the mushroom dish, well, because we absolutely love mushrooms! Now, although the mushroom selection was nice, it was a little bland/light handed on the seasoning. Mushrooms tend to absorb whatever seasoning is incorporated, and these just kinda missed the mark a little. A tad more seasoning and a little less liquid/broth would hit perfectly and elevate the taste of this dish:). For our entrees: I tried the buckwheat fettuccini with lobster. It was perfectly cooked and not over sauced. Torc was not stingy with the lobster portion and it was succulent and flavorful! Hubby had the cod...it was also perfectly seasoned, with crispy skin - still moist and flaky in the insides. These two main dishes were super tasty!!! Lastly, the dessert! Having southern roots, I opted for the red velvet cake, I mean who doesn't love a good red velvet cake afterall:). My personal thoughts - so, Torc's red velvet t is a deconstructed red velvet cake. I get the idea, but it wasn't really deconstructed. It was a plain red velvet cake, taken apart (it looked like it was taken apart by hand - not a bad thing, but not an appealing presentation on the plate), with a spooned dollop of cream cheese frosting in the center that tasted like it had a hint of lime (not sure why the lime undertones, but not complimentary in a red velvet dessert - it kinda of clashes with the dessert here). There were also drops of some sort of beet accents dressed around the plate. The problem is that beets pureed as an accent to a sweet dessert is that they have a very distinct and earthy taste. They work best in salads and juice based items, but personally, I think they just fell flat here. Here, it wasn't tasty, and the earthiness of this root vegetable as a pureed accent, did not complement the decadence of a red velvet cake - although the red in a red velvet cake can traditionally be made with beets or done with red food coloring to achieve its vibrant color, when beets are incorporated into the batter, the beet taste is masked in the batter once the cocoa and other ingredients are added - hence the flavor of the red velvet is typically accomplished by cocoa (and if you know like I know, a cup of hot expresso is added to bring out the flavor of the cocoa and helps make it ohhhhh so moist - so if you make it at home, try it or just message me for the recipe lol - I promise, it's one of those slap ya mamma taste - not literally if you hv a southern mom bc you might get slapped back lol - but it's that good). Anyway, I digress.... But this deconstructed red velvet cake just didn't hit like red velvet should! I took my fiancé here for his bday and we were not disappointed at all. This menu is very truffle heavy but delicious! We started off with the truffle grilled cheese and it was absolutely amazing from the bread to the cheese to the amount of truffles inside. It was a complex flavor but so delicious! It definitely made my tastebuds super happy! The deviled eggs were also really tasty and the perfect bites to start a meal. The fries were super crisp with the perfect curry dipping sauce and kewpie Mayo dipping sauce. Could not stop eating the fries! The beef duo was the real star of the show, perfectly tender braised short rib that fell apart easily and was super flavorful. The filet mignon was also a perfect medium rare, was super tender and delicious! The homemade pasta was so good and al dente but the sauce lacked a bit of depth in flavor but I did like the truffles on top! Definitely a must visit when you are in Napa! If you like truffles this is the place to go, you can add truffles to pretty much any of the dishes if you want! Overall, I love this place and can't wait to come back again! 4.5 STARS COVID-19 OUTDOOR DINING I'm in the minority here but TORC had me at beef tongue AND fernet! You know, cuz I'll eat anything with four legs except a chair. (I'm being sarcastic here). I don't think any other upscale restaurant in wine country serves beef tongue so props for this. TORC is open for takeout, limited indoor dining, and outdoor dining (front and back patio). Outdoor patio is dog-friendly. Most outdoor tables were shaded. First things first, make those reservations! Even for Friday lunch, they were busy. Second, the seasonal New American lunch AND dinner menu are the pretty identical so you're not stuck with just a basic salad/sandwich for lunch like other places. Happy Hour menu is only available at the front patio (Tuesday - Saturday from 12 pm - 6 pm). Lastly, yes there's a COVID surcharge of $4 pp which is mentioned upon sitting down and stated on the menu. The best thing was the service and pleasant open dining room. The food fell short of the hype. I ordered the hamachi and the pork chop for my entree. The hamachi would have been all right except they were in tiny chunks and the puffed rice topping was too much. It took over the dish. The meat was under-seasoned and the fig sauce tasted like orange juice. From their statement, I think the way to go is their snacks or "comfort food" items and stay away from the fine dining items. I'm not gonna lie, I feel like I should rate this 3/5. First, going to give a little bit as to why this place deserves the rating I'm giving it. The service is top tier. The waitress knew the menu, knew how to explain it, and gave details about everything. That right there is 5 stars. I don't know her name, but she was great. All other servers seemed like they were just as good. I'm not a super-fancy-restaurant-type-of-gal. I honestly feel intimidated being in places like this. I don't know why. The menu looked so confusing, the portion sizes were so bizarre and yes, the prices are higher than they should be for what it is. There were six of us, and we did mostly split everything. The 3 guys devoured the steak, it was the biggest plate on the table. I don't even know how they were, but they ate it all so must have been good. The pastas were very small looking servings. The appetizers were also very small servings. None of that made sense. It was like here, have a few bites, but that's all you get and that's your meal. read more

First time back in the space since it was Ubunto (sp?) many many years ago, so glad to see another great restaurant in the space. The design of the restaurant interior is really beautiful all the way from the front dining room to the bathrooms. We joined for Saturday brunch and found nearly all of our items to be utterly delicious. My favorite item was the truffle grilled cheese and the tuna crudo, which was one of the most well-balanced we've ever had. I wish we had more space to try more items but I can't wait to go back. The one item we did not like the server took back immediately and voluntarily took it off our bill. We really appreciated this extra level of customer care. Covid safety The restaurant takes Covid safety very seriously, even providing a disposable bag for your mask. We noticed the servers wiping down surfaces and of course we're all wearing masks. There is a large outdoor dining in the back as well as happy hour seating out front. I wasn't sure why the regular menu couldn't be offered in the front but the indoor dining was a nice environment so I didn't mind. It was hard for us to get someone on the phone to make a chefs menu/wine pairing reservation. But once we did I was able to ask about making gluten free options as I am celiac. We arrived and were greeted... the staff was so friendly and our waitress was adorable, so excited to explain each course/pairing. The wines were delicious and the food was amazing and even my husband was pleasantly surprised on how they made all these gluten free options delicious on his palate! My highlights were the fried sweet potato(in chickpea flour), carrot carpaccio and the truffle risotto. My husbands were the duck and beef and chocolate dessert. I really loved the pear sorbet!
