This restaurant focuses on a minimalist approach to decor and a maximum approach on flavor. Located in the Napa area, it's just far enough outside the immediate downtown that much of the clientele are local regulars rather than tourists. There's limited parking in the area, but it can be tight. We had a reservation for a late afternoon and the restaurant was getting pretty busy. I would definitely recommend reservations during peak times dinner hours. We were pleasantly greeted and had an opportunity to walk through a very cool bar area. The restaurants surrounds a courtyard, which would be lovely in warmer weather. Just beyond the courtyard you can see from just about every area of the restaurant right into the kitchen, which is always fun. Without any surprise, there's an extensive wine list available as well as a fantastic list of mixed drinks and mocktails. Every dish was amazingly flavorful with attention to every detail. As visually beautiful as all the dishes tasted. Everything was made with quality ingredients and flawlessly executed. We decided to check out this fine dining establishment in Napa for dinner. The decor is modern and minimalistic. We sat out in the patio, which had a huge tree in the middle. It was a hot day in June, so we ordered iced lychee black tea with chrysanthemum. It was very refreshing! We shared the yellowtail sashimi, banh nam, cellophane noodles, and shaking beef. I gotta be honest. I had high hopes for this place, but was disappointed. I believe that the dishes they made were incredibly hard to make. However, I feel like the flavors were off. A lot of the dishes were very sweet. I realize that sugar, salt, and fat are staples of gourmet cooking, but it was very over-powering to the flavors. Also, when our cocktails took a little long to arrive (something that we never complained about, but that the server felt guilting about on their own), they poured us a complimentary wine -- a nice gesture, but I gotta drive and don't really want an extra drink. Also, they were really eager to get us to buy more food than we needed. We ordered about half of what they recommended, and we still had to box up some of it. That didn't stop the server from trying to get us to order more dishes, to which we had to keep pushing back against. Lastly, there were a couple dishes that we had to order twice. It seems like the server didn't keep track of our original order, and so they came around to ask if we wanted mains when we had already ordered some. I had previous eaten at the Ferry building outpost and was excited to see that they have a location in Napa and it was a fabulous experience from start to finish! We had an amazing server/ we told her what we generally interested in, including the fact that I don't eat meat but everyone else does and she chose the dishes, the pace and the order which made for an absolutely fabulous experience!! We enjoyed the patio and the heat lamps as it was super chilly even on June and a leisurely pace with exceptional service. So many great dishes / Yellowtail with the crispy shallots were amazing, loved the spring rolls and particularly loved the Imperial rolls which were the perfect bite and the mint was the perfect finish and the surprise dish that was just delicious was the daikon rice cakes ! It's been a long while since dining at the Ferry Building and our recent meal here in Napa was as good as I remembered in SF, a real wow. EVERYTHING was amazing, from the patio/courtyard dining to the awesome food: --perfect mai tai to begin, not too sweet --crispy vegetarian imperial rolls, tasty combination wrapped in a lettuce leaf and dipped in the sauce. --chicken claypot, the ginger caramel sauce blew me away, would love to know how to make this --shaking beef, perfect, just as I remembered --bok choy with shitake mushrooms --white corn with chickpea miso butter and shishito peppers, almost didn't order this as we thought we had enough, but couldn't stop eating it. The family got together for a post-Christmas lunch. My sister found Slanted Door in Napa, which I had no idea. What a great idea, right in the hear of Wine Country. I ate at the original restaurant on Valencia way back in the late 90s. It was awesome. I've also eaten at the one on the Embarcadero in the mid 00s, also great. I am now 3-for-3 with the Napa location. It was just as great at the others. The food was excellent (check my pics) and the service was also excellent. My family tends to be needy and ask lots of questions and requires lots of help. It literally takes us 10 minutes to figure out the seating arrangement. Anyway, the good folks at the Napa location were wonderful and tended to our needs skillfully and courteously. It was a true testament of good hospitality. My poor words cannot do justice the food, so I will just show the pics. I will say that the Shaking Beef and Lemongrass Chicken were the family favorites. read more

Had a fantastic lunch in here for the first time. Really excited to try some of the food and the outdoor seating in the middle of the restaurant in the courtyard was really a great atmosphere. We tried the Pho and also the weekend brunch including dim sum and it was delicious. I wish I had tried this place sooner but I'm glad that we gave it a chance. This gem is too little known of, and that's the magic. We had been to the Slanted Door in the SF Ferry Building and were disappointed when it shuttered during the COVID lockdown in 2020. Somehow, we missed the opening of this new location in 2023. We stooped in for happy hour and found the place charming and perfect for a celebration with friends or just date night. We sat in the bar and the bartender, Micah, was terrific! He was super helpful with the menu and made great recs for us. The dumplings and spring rolls were delicious and we also had a classic steamed bun that was amazing. So in love that Slanted Door is in Napa. I honestly think it's better than any of the locations. My fiancé and I usually go to the San Ramon and for some reason the Napa location just taste better the ambiance has a nice simplicity and zen vibe to it. The customer service was over the top and very attentive. Everyone was so kind and sweet. We ordered: Pho Chay - 5/5 fiancé love every bite of it he mentioned it's loaded with veggies, mushrooms, and all the extra stuff. He also mentioned the broth was very smooth. Pho Ga - 5/5 which I ordered and it was so refreshing taste love how it had a lot of herbs in mine and the broth taste so homemade and comforting. Love it so much. We also got the tofu spring rolls and we literally thought it was 5/5 and love every bite of it. It was so light and so airy, and the peanut sauce was perfection. We also ordered side of bak choy and the taste was mind blowing. It had the right amount of savory to it and the garlics had a nice touch to it. My Two orders of crab cellophane and the imperial rolls were fine, but sadly, nothing to write home about. The former wasn't large and I barely had crab for almost $40. The imperial rolls were very good, but I was not given enough variety of fresh herbs. After paying $83, I'd have to say that my glass of dry Prosecco was the winner. I know-- I didn't want to concede it. As much as I don't need to return again, I also want them to make it and not have to fold in the future. We came for brunch & Our group started with the vegetarian imperial rolls which were they absolutely delicious, I could've eaten an entire plate all by myself.! Then we shared the mains, the shaking beef, broken rice & iconic cellophane noodles. We also enjoyed a few nice cocktails, flight of the Incas , a French 75 & a Bloody Mary. Zero complaints ! The new location is located in a hotel parking lot in a more commercial area of Napa. It's modern, sleek and open with a nice outdoor area and a beautiful bar. My wife and I decided to try the Slanted Door for a Friday Happy Hour. We arrived around 4:30pm and we were the only customers in the restaurant. We ordered 4 Happy Hour food items and one happy hour cocktail. The bartender and staff were very friendly and engaging. Our food arrived as well as the cocktail. The food was good as was the cocktail. Our check came and I saw a service charge of 20% added on. This made our Happy Hour tab 78.00 for two people and one drink. I would gladly pay the check fee and I almost always tip 20-30% if the food is good and the wait staff as well. I just don't know why there would be a 20% service fee for 2 people, during happy hour. I would have given this restaurant a 5, but couldn't because they charge an automatic service fee of 20% on your bill. No questions asked & no option for the customer to tip as they see fit based on the service and food. It's wrong to have a manditory charge on your bill versus allowing the customer to decide. That said, the service very good. We sat in the courtyard and enjoyed a nice out door meal of various appitizers. I loved the Crispy Imperial Rolls. I definitely recommend them. The yellowtail was fresh, but did not have much flavor, also very overpriced, $21 for 4 pieces. of fish. The cold coffee drink was also great. They have a beautiful outdoor patio where it is shaded by a large tree and rounded tables inside. For birthday celebrations, they give a celebratory glass which I thought was really sweet. My friend rented out the bar area for their birthday on a Saturday night in December from 7-10pm. We had a minimum to reach and we reached it before we started paying for our drinks and meals. I got there a little late so I didn't order food but I had some spring rolls and I heard the shaking beef was good. We all really enjoyed their Vietnamese coffee espresso martinis and others also enjoyed their mezcal mixed drinks. We got tons of shots of tequila and they have a cake cutting fee if you bring your own cake. Parking is easy because they have their own parking lot. They have somewhat of an outdoor bar area but it was closed since it was raining. Service was great, very friendly workers that were working hard for our large party. I hosted a business dinner for six at the Slanted Door in Napa and had an outstanding experience. I requested a quiet location in the restaurant so we could discuss business, and the staff generously accommodated us with a room that perfectly responded to my request.   Our server was friendly and knowledgeable--noting the history and style of the restaurant, the seasonal menu changes, locally sourced ingredients, and made suggestions based on our questions. The Slanted Door recommended ordering family style so we could experience as many dishes as possible, and we took them up on their suggestion. The service in general was unobtrusive and highly professional--changing plates, adding flatware, and refreshing drinks without disturbing conversation.   The food was exceptional. No dish was under seasoned. Every dish was cooked perfectly and seasoned to the point where each ingredient and the overall dishes' umami flavors were maximized.  When hosting a meal, I was taught to order enough so that no one leaves the table hungry so we did order many dishes. Here are my notes.   For appetizers, we ordered the Yellowtail, Spring Rolls, Banh Bot Loc dumplings, and BBQ Ribs. The BBQ ribs were the star of the first course. Perfectly cooked so the meat was tender and separated from the bone cleanly and glazed with an addictive savory-sweet sauce, these ribs were unforgettable. However, every appetizer was good.   For the main course, we ordered the Shaking Beef, Salmon, Lemongrass Pork Chop, Pork Belly Claypot, Eggplant, and Cellophane Noodles. Each was excellent, but the Pork Chop was the best pork dish I have had in years. It was flavorful and melt-in-your mouth tender.   For dessert, we ordered the Olive Oil Cake, Pavlova, Che Bap (which is rice pudding). The Pavlova was the standout. The fruit and meringue were sweet and crisp.   There are many choices in Napa, but I would not hesitate to recommend the Slanted Door. read more

Literally stumbled in here after leaving Bottle Rock. It was in walking distance from my hotel so super easy to get to. Plus during Bottle Rock when the hotel bar closed, they remained open which was nice. Upon walking in, we were greeted right away with a friendly smile. That means a lot because I know they were probably busy all day with all the tourist that were in town for the Bottle Rock event. The next notable thing is the music they were playing. 90's R&B. Totally wasn't expecting that, but it was a great treat. The drink menu was very creative and when I asked what they like to make I was told an Old Fashion. I am not typically a big old fashion kind of girl, but I had to try it and it was very very good. So couple the amazing drink, with the good vibe and throw in the 90's music. I was in heaven! We recently checked out Slanted Door, an upscale Vietnamese restaurant in Napa. We weren't sure what to expect but were pleasantly surprised by the quality and taste of the food. We ordered the slanted door spring rolls (pork and shrimp) and pork bao buns for our appetizer, and for the mains we shared the pork chop vermicelli salad bowl and the cellophane noodles (crab). For dessert we shared a pear tart, and ordered espresso, Vietnamese espresso martini, and imperial pu-ehr tea. I also ordered a cappelletti spritz and an off menu mezcal sour for additional drinks. The food was really tasty but smaller portions compared to your usual local Vietnamese spot. I definitely felt full after, but we did not have any leftovers and wouldn't have felt full if we didn't order appetizers. The service was great and the staff was very friendly with pretty normal/fast service. They also have a pretty decent sized parking lot behind the restaurant so it was very easy finding parking. Overall, a great spot to check out for a date night if you want to splurge a bit, but if you are looking for cheaper traditional Vietnamese food with larger portions, this is not the spot for you. read more
