I had lunch with a girlfriend since I was visiting for Bottlerock. We visited on a Sunday and it was such a beautiful day! I'm so glad that we had reservations outside since the view was absolutely beautiful. Luckily, it wasn't too busy and our waiter was kind enough to take pictures of us at our table, as well as in the garden. Ask for the food, we ordered: 1) Cheese Platter - all of them were really wonderful, and even the so-called stinky cheeses were very delightful! Would definitely order that again! 2) Tempura green beans - I fell in love with this dish when I had them at The Habit burger, and while they don't serve this with their magical ranch... They do serve it with a nice honey, mustard sauce. I was able to convert my girlfriends into enjoy this. 3) Truffle Fries - unfortunately this was a little bit of a letdown since we all love truffle! The fries were cooked perfectly, but we could not taste the truffle. 4) Fried Chicken - this was my entrée and it was quite good and more importantly very filling with a large portion size! I believe I had four pieces of chicken! The mashed potatoes were great, and the cheddar biscuit was pretty good though not mind blowing. 5) Steak Frites - this is what my girlfriend ordered and it was very delicious! Nice ambiance. Expensive food for what it is. I ordered the prime rib plate for a late lunch on Sunday. The prime rib was decent and had a nice flavor of rosemary. The baked potato could've included a bigger portion of toppings and the creamed spinach could've also been bigger and could've used more salt. I had a glass of 2021 Napa Cabernet Sauvignon which was okay and paired decently with the steak. Queen cut is 12 oz and king cut is 15 oz. I shared truffle fries with my friends, which were warm and pretty good. I tried my friend's jambalaya pasta, which was also okay. This is one of our favorite spots. It has a beautiful patio, and you can dine either inside or outside. On our most recent visit, we went on a Thursday evening and were seated right away. I usually prefer sitting outside, but due to the wind, we chose to sit indoors. Since it was later in the evening, we opted for a lighter dinner. My husband and I both ordered the sautéed petrale sole with wild rice, spinach, and lemon herb beurre blanc. Unfortunately, I would rate this dish a 2 out of 5. The sauce lacked flavor, and I couldn't taste the lemon herb beurre blanc at all. It also felt like there wasn't enough sauce, and although we asked for lemon, it never arrived. That said, the ambiance is still a 5 out of 5. The setting is beautiful, and they have a great selection of wine. We've been here multiple times, and this was our only disappointing experience. I was extremely disappointed with our experience at Brix Napa Valley, particularly given how much we paid for what was supposed to be a private dining experience. For parties of 8+, Brix requires you to book a private event, which comes with a significant premium. Based on my conversations with their event manager leading up to our dinner, I had a very different understanding of what that private dining experience would look like. Unfortunately, when we arrived, our "private dining" space was simply a table off to the side of the main dining area. There was nothing private about it. We were repeatedly interrupted by other restaurant guests, including children, throughout our dinner. I had tried multiple times before the event to meet with the event manager to make sure everything was aligned, but she was never available. I ultimately had a rushed phone call with her about a week before the event. When we arrived and realized the space wasn't what we expected, I asked to speak with her, only to find out she wasn't even there that evening. We asked if we could move to the area we had understood we were booking and were told it was being used for the evening. We stayed until closing, and that space was never occupied. The rest of the evening didn't improve much. Later, when it became cold, we noticed other guests had heaters and blankets, so we requested the same. We were told blankets weren't available for us, and it took around 20 minutes to get a heater. The food was also underwhelming for the price. The chicken was disappointing, and the desserts looked and tasted like they were store-bought. Our server was the one bright spot, she was mostly kind and did her best to help us throughout the evening. Thank you, Jenna. Overall, this was an incredibly underwhelming experience, especially considering the cost. My biggest issue isn't simply that I didn't love the food; it's that the "private dining" experience we paid for was not what was represented to me when I booked it. If Brix is going to require large parties to pay a premium for a private event, the space and experience need to actually be private and accurately communicated beforehand. I would strongly recommend getting very specific details and ideally photos of exactly what space you are paying for before booking a private event at Brix. read more

Stopped by Brix after wine tasting for a quick bite and a cocktail at the bar. We were seated right away which was nice. Random but the bar had TVs on with the NFL playoff games and I loved that. There was a wait for outside seating, which seemed to be what everyone wanted. We sat at the bar, it's horseshoe shaped and actually really beautiful. We ordered a French 75, lobster fondue, truffle fries, and the seafood potstickers. The lobster fondue was fine but didn't have a ton of lobster, more fondue than anything. Truffle fries were really good and the seafood potstickers were my favorite. Everyone was nice and the property itself is gorgeous. To sip, we enjoyed Espresso Martinis and Chocolate Fudge Martinis -- both delicious and perfectly suited to the evening. My family and I have been to Brix about 5 times or so for brunch for the past few years and our experiences have been consistently fantastic. Most times we've had a reservation and they were always able to accommodate us for outdoor seating. Outdoors is where you want to be-- it's got great views, it's so beautiful and relaxing and just a fun environment to enjoy a great meal with your family. There's a garden and grassy areas for kids to roam when they're no longer interested in eating. What's nice is we coincidentally always had the same server a few times and we always recognize the same (staff) faces which I'm hoping means employees are happy there and it's got great management. We always ask our serve what they recommend, and it's always a hit. We haven't had a bad meal there and service is always amazing. We went there based on reviews for what was supposed to be a beautiful, upscale dining experience. Our meal, once we finally received it, was delicious, but the service was incredibly slow during a very quiet time - two hours from start to finish. Our server never even came to ask how our meal was and then we had to ask for him to come to settle our bill. What truly added to the entire experience was the dog that was actually seated on the indoor booth next to us and then was allowed to get on the table and eat off of the dining plates and out of the dinner bowls. We love dogs, but this was over the top. A restaurant, definitely of this caliber, should have higher hygiene standards. Service dogs stay on the floor. This couple and their pooch were treated better than the customers around them. We've never seen anything like it. And then we used the bathroom before we left. We should've gone there first. Our party ordered the shrimp and pork potstickers in which one of the two orders was returned as the pork filling was not fully cooked. Dungeness crab fondue however was really good. My Dungeness crab Tagliatelle dish was just average and in hindsight should have ordered the mushroom risotto or short rib ravioli dishes which really looked good. We made a reservation at Brix during restaurant week. We were happy to get a last minute Rez, so we didn't mind sitting on their enclosed patio with heaters because it was quite a chilly evening. We only waited 10 minutes for our table to be ready and we were invited to wait in their pretty lounge. The patio didn't have as good of vibes as indoors. The restaurant week menu was pre-fixe. We got to pick one app, one main and one dessert for the price. The highlights were the crab fondue, sticky ribs, and short rib. The halibut was also cooked perfectly with a slight crisp texture on the edges. The only items that didn't really hit the spot, though they were beautiful aesthetically, were the desserts. Tempura Green Beans Nicely salted, crunch hot, fried beans with honey dipping sauce. 2. Truffle french fries came out where the top was called so it being a busy night we guess that they have been sitting out a little. The waiter was truly too busy so I couldn't say anything. 3. Fried chicken dinner with cheddar biscuit, from their gardens, grated warm squash, and mashed potatoes with gravy. As you can see, it's an incredibly hearty dinner portion. 4. Brix' seasonal beet salad with the addition of shrimp. Someone's main dish. There's lots of reservations available and a large parking lot. We were seated pretty quickly after we made a last minute reservation online. Barely enough room for our table settings. Waiter arrives and is very quiet. We have to inquire about prime rib special as well as drinks. We order the tempura green beans and both order prime rib, king cut and queen cut. Tempura Green Beans arrive and comes with only a honey mustard sauce. Wife requested ranch dressing and he says they do not have ranch dressing. WTF, how can this place not have ranch. How about some salt and pepper to help these very bland vegetables. Shakers are brought to the table. Prime rib arrives and there is very little or no difference between the king and queen cut other than the price. Again the food is under seasoned. No au jus and no horseradish sauce. They bring some horseradish sauce but no au jus. The baked potato is underdressed and we have to request additional butter and sour cream. What a shit show! Stopped in for some appetizers after wine tasting in the area. Without reservations we were able to sit at the bar. It's a beautiful horseshoe shape with tv's hung from the ceiling to watch a sports game. The restaurant is super busy and the noise level high. Next time I'll have to make reservations so I can sit out on the patio with amazing views of their grounds ( vineyard & garden). The name Brix is a nod to the sugar level of grapes grown on their vineyard. Their menu is farm to table changing daily and using ingredients from their own garden and orchard. We ordered shrimp & pork potstickers, Dungeness Crab Fondue ( artichoke, leek, melted Gruyère & Brie) served with crispy garlic flat bread, and truffle fries. My favorite was the potstickers and my thoughts on the fondue was it was too salty - all I could taste was the salt. I ordered the Passion Spritz craft cocktail ( aperol, passion fruit purée and sparkling wine)- I liked the spin on the traditional aperol spritz. Very fruity and flavorful. The bartender (he was extremely busy) was still friendly and checked in with us regularly. There is a really pretty private table area near the bar with walls of wine racks made of light wood, a nice spot for a celebration dinner. We had a great lunch here pre-Superbowl. In our many trips to Napa from the OC, we had not been here (honestly, the reviews drove some of that decision), but for this trip with our teenage girls we thought we would give it a shot. The grounds are gorgeous -- the outdoor seating area, the tasting tables, the garden and obviously the vines. What a great location! We started with the crudité which was fantastic. As basic as this dish can be -- everything was fresh, crisp, cold, and the sesame miso black garlic dipping sauce was wonderful. We also grabbed the tuna tartare and I had the soup du jour which was a divine garlic & parmesan soup. The soup was excellent -- perfect amount of garlic without being overpowering, really well-balanced and smooth, and the parmesan added the perfect little bite. For entrees, my wife and youngest split the chicken parmesan sandwich, my 15 year old went with the filet mignon with asparagus and mac n' cheese, and I did the seabass (duh) with coconut rice and a lobster hot & sour broth. The chicken parmesan was "good" -- nothing special according to the ladies, but the truffle fries made them quite happy. The filet was "excellent" -- perfectly cooked, a nice mushroom cream sauce, and the veggies and mac n' cheese were tasty. My dish was the highlight -- seabass perfectly cooked, rice was great, and the lobster broth was exceptional. I basically licked the plate. We were totally full for our "light" lunch -- but had to dive in on the desserts based on how good everything was. The GF Chocolate torte was unreal -- SO RICH -- we only ate 1/2 of it between the 4 of us -- but was great. The rice pudding got a "solid" score from the ladies and the cheesecake was awesome. The kohlrabi fritters were a disappointment and didn't have much flavor. The garnishes were very lackluster and it just felt like a bunch of barely cooked vegetables thrown on a plate. The burrata itself was amazing, but a bit more pesto oil would have taken this up a notch! When you split the burrata between the grilled bread, there isn't much pesto oil left to have much of a taste. The reason for the three stars was the fritters and the service. While our server was polite, he kept disappearing for long periods of time. Sometimes I would see him just standing around chatting. I had to ask 4 different employees at different times for water and soda refills. Between sitting down at our table and finally getting our check and getting to leave, it was 3 hours!! It really shouldn't take that long. Luckily it was a weekend and we didn't have anything planned after lunch, but I certainly didn't think we would be spending three hours just for a casual lunch. I also saw our server cleaning up a very dirty table (filled with food thrown all over the table) using a towel and his bare hands, and then 5 minutes later bringing us plates and forks for our dessert. And in nowhere during that time did he go into the kitchen where he may have washed his hands. I was quite grossed out by that. However, I did see other servers giving excellent and very attentive service, so it may have been an off day for our server because he was nice. The salad I ordered was soggy and the dressing was some kind of horseradish sauce?? Then our main courses!!! Like the chef is trying to be fancy but ruins an otherwise good choice with all this extra ingredients. Our lunches came in two deliveries with half of us with no food for about 10 minutes. We finally all had our meals by 2:40, an hour after being seated. My husband ordered a beet salad with smoked trout which was so small that it was less than an appetizer. If you're in between wine tours in Napa on Highway 29 and need a lunch break, Brix is a class spot to enjoy cheddar cheeseburgers, wood fire-grilled artichoke, and class cocktails. It's a good change of pace in between trying flights of different wines and needing something to fill your stomach so that you can enjoy more wine later in the day. Their espresso martinis are also a highlight of their menu, which we enjoyed towards the end of our meal. I made reservations at least a month in advance just in case there were any capacity issues, so we were going during the in-season. They sat us right away with a lovely view of the outdoor patio and the west side of Napa Valley. Our server was lovely and attentive to our needs, especially since we were in Napa celebrating our birthdays and our Irish Wedding Anniversary. read more
