When we arrived our party was 30 minutes late. On a Saturday night I was concerned if we were going to get a table. Fortunately the receptionist was able to find a table for our party around 6.:00 PM, but he stated we would have to be out by 8:00 PM. I looked at the menu. Since I was going to a steakhouse in Las Vegas in late September I decided not to order steak. For the entree I decided between the branzino or beef short rib. While I am at Vegas I will be going to an Italian restaurant where they serve branzino. So I decided to go with the beef short rib at Bottega. I asked the server what pasta would go well with the beef short rib. He suggested the Spaghetti alla Sophia Loren. I'll be honest I thought after seeing pictures of the spaghetti the Spaghetti alla Sophia Loren would be bigger. The portion was smaller than I anticipated. If the portion is small the flavor better stand out. The spaghetti was al dente. What I liked about the Spaghetti alla Sophia Loren was the cherry tomatoes as they were sweet not tarty as tomatoes can be. Even though the portion of the Spaghetti alla Sophia Loren was small I wasn't full for my main course. Next was the main entrée the beef short rib. I really enjoyed this dish. The beef short rib was moist, but not too rich that I felt bloated. What also cuts the richness of the short beef rib is the polenta. Out of the two dishes I ordered the short beef rib was tastier. I was too full to order dessert even though some of the items were enticing. However I got a complimentary dessert for my birthday. Overall I fun enjoyable with my family for dinner at Bottega.

The short ribs were incredibly tender and easily fell off the bone. The potatoes were a great substitution and paired really well with the dish. This was definitely the highlight of the meal for me. At the end of dinner, they surprised me with a complimentary birthday plate with an assortment of small desserts and fresh berries, a candle, and "Buon Compleanno" written in chocolate. It was beautifully presented and a really thoughtful touch that made celebrating my birthday there feel a little more special. Overall, it was a nice birthday dinner. You can also never go wrong with their oysters; something about them just taste different here and in the best way. Steak frites is what my husband and I usually order as a staple entree, but this time, both of our steaks came out to be cooked rare instead of medium rare. We did appreciate how they gave us new ones that were then cooked as ordered, but they had also replaced the fries with new ones that were soggy. And who likes soggy fries? Especially since we paid a little extra for them to be truffle fries. To be fair, I did see that they lost their 1 Michelin star, and unfortunately this dinner somewhat could have alluded to why. Our server was Michael, and he has been there for quite some time. We had excellent service by him. We ordered a number of items. Our perennial favorites were the salade lyonnaise (because who doesn't love bacon and egg over greens) and their tomato soup over puff pastry. We also tried this time around their mussels (served over a big pot with broth), their Pike dumplings and a Chanterelle mushroom seasonal special. The restaurant was crowded. We can still hear each other but it's definitely not a quiet lunch spot. It's a nice change if you normally like to eat at Bouchon and want to try something slightly different.
