I'm a pizza snob from NJ, and before moving to Austin ate all my pizza in NJ, Philly, NY, and CT. When I wasn't "home" I didn't even bother eating pizza; I knew the local fare would be a better choice, and the pizza would be inferior. If Niki's was back east I wouldn't give it 4 stars. I'm not even sure if it would get three, but compared to the rest of the options it's a strong offering. Pizza by the slice is rare in this part of town, and they do a pretty good job delivering cheap pizza that is not bad. I ate there with a coworker from Long Island and he agreed; not bad! The sauce has a nice flavor that might be one of my favorites in Austin. The cheese and toppings are good, and the crust is solid as well. Add to that, it kind of feels like a pizza parlor back home. I wish that my hubs and I still lived close to this place! I love myself some good pizza and after working for a national pizza chain for years I ate to support anything that isn't local. My guy found this place because it was right next to the bus station and he would frequent this place after being at UT all day. It was love at first bite! I loved the cheese and the classic pepperoni! The pepperoni is beef too! Which is uncommon and I loved the favor so much better. There was a great pasta dish there as well, the diablo chicken pasta. The customer service there was also great. Niki would be hanging out there and great us with a smile every time. I have never felt to welcome to a quaint pizza joint. The customer service was terrible on July 3rd, 2014. The girl working behind the counter was rude and declined our party 2 to-go boxes for 7 slices of pizza being split between 2 families. The carry out special with a box is 9.99 and we stayed in to eat and paid double the price which seems like that would cover the cost for us to take our leftovers home. On a side note, the pizza was great but until the girl behind the counter learns how to treat paying customers we won't go back to a place we frequent once a week. read more

This is definitely a few steps above the local pizza chains. Niki's puts out a good pie. The ingredients are fresh and the cheese is especially better that what you'd get at a fast food pizza joint. The crust doesn't have that typical NY style bite that you'd expect. So it was a bit disappointing. I was hoping for a crusty, flaky, and thick bready goodness, but it was more like eating a breadstick. Also, they are a bit cheap on the toppings, so ask for extra if you're a hearty eater. Service is friendly but don't come here expecting much of an ambience, it's pretty dry. Mostly, you will see customers who are waiting on a to-go order. The overall value is good. So, I'm just going to put this out there - pizza and I are pretty good friends. So, I sort of feel like it's my duty to go out and try all sorts of pizzas. Niki's is, well, right up there for thin - the pizza is quite tasty - the sauce is good - lots of flavor. I was a little surprised that they slice their sausage like pepperoni, rather than the usual sausage glob - but it was still a tasty treat. And FAST - they are super quick. Authentic Italian and served hot! I've only tried the fettuccine Alfredo but it was good and came with some salty garlic buns. I feel they're a bit over priced and the service is just average, but this is the best Italian I've had in my area, way better than Carinos across the street. read more

*Food* The pizza is fantastic as is their garlic bread. They also have calzones, pasta, salad, and desserts. They sell pizza by the slice and usually have about 4-6 pizzas to choose from depending on when you get there. *Atmosphere* It has a NY deli/pizzeria vibe to it [fitting]. It's small with about 8 tables that seat 2 or 4 people. They have a TV against the back wall that is usually showing Football [Soccer]. *Service* Outside of the greeting you and handing you a pizza there isn't much service here. That being said the guys and gals behind the counter have always been friendly and courteous. *Price* Pretty cheap. I usually get the lunch special which is 2 large slices of pizza and a soft drink for 6 bucks. 1-2 pieces is going to fill most people up. 3 for you folks that tend to have a heavier appetite than most. *Overall* If you're in the North Austin area and want a quick bite to eat at a cheap price, definitely check this place out. read more

A place where they greet you with the warmth of a pizza oven. It was recommended by friends at work to try the place for great lunch specials, and appetite filling portions. So I did. Upon entering or leaving you cannot get around the cordial and sincere greeting from Niki. He will spend any spare moment he can to come from behind the counters and ovens to check with you and see "how are you doing." I was there with my friends, and my daughter in the early evening. We ordered the Calzones: Pepperoni & Jalapeno, Sausage, and Meatball. (also the standard cheese pizza for the little one) I will be the first to admit that I am not a Calzone fan, but wanted to try it since it seemed to be the recommended choice of the day. Our order was called, and our eyes were filled with the size of them. It seems that they took an 8-10 inch pizza with all the inclusions and folded it over in half! Puffed like a meat pastry of desire. (served on a pizza pan no doubt to the size of it) The home made tomato sauce, fresh grated cheese (they do NOT buy the stuff in a tub pre-grated), the meat, and the ricotta blended well. Cutting into it, it did not deflate as it was actually stuffed with your order. Surprisingly nice knowing it was not filled with air. All in all it was a good meal at a great price for about $6 per calzone! I preferred the Calzone crust; it was airy, fresh, and not flaky. Just a firm tasty crust that you can taste was tossed by hand and properly set to "rise" when they made it. My daughter enjoyed the pizza as well... and made a friend with Niki (so he passed the little girl test) This visit did not make me a Calzone fan (per say, it's just not my thing), but I would not turn one down if offered. Additionally, the great thing that I took away was the fact that I do want to go back and try more items on the menu. That is a plus for any business. As to Niki? Well the warmth of his joy and care for the customers makes me want to go back and just hang out with the man. And my daughter.... well she just likes "the pizza man." Thanks Niki! I love the PEOPLE here. The guy is so nice and friendly - and so, so great with kids. I seriously felt like he wanted us to have as much fun at lunch as we would at Disneyland. Inside, you kind of feel like you could be in a little shop on the streets of a bustling city even though you are in suburbia, which is and interesting change from everything else in strip-center land. Nice, but not in a 'this place is very well-decorated' way; more in a 'this place is different and that is kind of cool' way. Despite the friendly owner, I have to say that I didn't care for the pizza much. I may be biased because I am not a big thin-crust fan and probably I should have just ordered plain cheese and would have been happier. Instead I ordered spinach and garlic. I get this at another local place and it is fresh spinach leaves with fresh cut garlic. At Niki's, it was canned spinach. When you dump a can of spinach on a pizza that is already thins, it just turns into a heavy, watery mess. And while I don't dislike canned spinach, it isn't something I want on a pizza. Very bad first impression, and last. Saw this place when I visit freebirds, and decided to try it out for lunch since I was in the mood for pasta. I walked in, the guy in the front looked like he was high and very unprofessional. I ordered the cheese ravioli, and while I waited 15 minutes for it, I inspected the place and watched how the employees handled things. The place is simple, kinda dirty. The thing that turned me off was watching the guy handling cash and than handling the ready to serve pizza without washing his hands! The thing that really broke the camels back is I burnt my hand pulling the pasta out of the bag to eat it. The to go packaging didn't include any utensils or napkins, and NO WARNING that the plate is EXTREMELY hot. Please put a warning or use a plate that has some insulation. read more

But he threw a tantrum because he had to work until the time it closed! Say you close at 9:30 if you don't want to be there! 9:43 is not 10:00 and I asked politely!! Instead of being rude he could have had the pizza ready!! We have laughed and talked with the staff there. We have seen parts of the World Cup there just for 9 years later to be treated so disrespectfully and the immature behavior of an obviously grown man. There are so many better options in Austin with such nicer staffs. Save yourself the trouble and don't come here, it's like papa Murphy's but baked already. We usually get a whole one because their slices are old and cold from the early afternoon and they just put it back in the oven to warm it up. I have tried this place two times and didn't like it...both times. I love the garlic cheese bread though. They add SO much cheese. Maybe that's a New York thing but if I was eat any more of that pizza I would have been constipated for the rest of my life. Wow! I ordered a pizza to pick up after a long day at work. As I was driving to Nikis I thought that I'm going to waste money on some bland crappy pizza. I picked up the pizza and still thought it'd be basic. I got home, pulled a slice out, took a bite, and WOW it was the best pizza I ever had. I was amazed how delicious it was. My family and I were out having a great night and wanted to end it with some yummy pizza. We were "greeted" with "is this to go" even though we still had 30 minutes until closing time. No available cheese slices so we had to order a medium cheese pizza. At first we felt bad so we left a tip on the check and thanked him several times. But the pizza was slapped together and rushed out with some areas of cheese barely melted. I asked for a few more minutes in the oven and the guy said "well it will be burned". I had to ask 3 more times! Then he said "so next time tell me you want it crispy" Guess what? It wasn't burned and nothing about this pizza was crispy. He didn't care and it showed in the pizza as well as the atmosphere! Horrible pizza (we are from the NY area so yeah we know NY pizza) and a very uncomfortable atmosphere with a guy who, in his own words, "just wanted to leave early". On a Saturday night!?
