Finally decided to try this place out even though I've lived by it for a couple of years! My husband and I went on a Tuesday night around 8:30pm. They close at 9pm so there weren't that many people there at all. Some people were still trickling in near the end. The atmosphere has more of a restaurant-feel than I was expecting for a place in a shopping center. There's booths and tables. And the lighting was dim for dinner which is always appreciated so you don't feel like you're at a BK Lounge. However, they were showing Dancing with the Stars on the tv but didn't bother me. Lol. We started with the veggie summer rolls and they were so fresh and delish! We also ordered the pad thai with beef and the yellow curry with chicken. The portions were good and we even took a little bit home. Pad thai is a little too sweet for my liking in general but it was still tasty. The curry was very very good. We will definitely be going back to try their fried rice, some other curries, and some other dishes as well. The desserts sounded awesome as well but we were too full. Service was basic and non-intrusive. Oh, and the prices are very very reasonable. All in all, we'll be back and I recommend you giving it a shot too! (Oh, and the only reason I knocked off a star is because they don't serve adult beverages and the service was a little slow.) read more

Honestly, you really can't expect much from a Thai place in strip shopping center located in the Wal Mart Parking lot. On top of that this place has had 3 names in about a year. I used to frequent it when it was Pad Thai, but haven't been since then. From what I can tell not much has changed, which for the most part is a good thing. Just FYI, I have never actually sat down for a meal here. I've only ever had take out and have always been satisfied. The food is tasty and flavorful. We typically get the Pineapple Fried Rice because it is the only thing that we can agree on and share. By far it is my favorite fried rice dish in Austin. Although, the green curry is superb if not mouth blistering. Service has always been friendly and prices reasonable. The only downside is that the interior is typical of what you would expect from a place next to Wal Mart, thus the reason I have never actually sat down to eat at Chang Thai. Oh, well as long as the take-out is as good as it has been I have no reason not to eat my fried rice in front of my TV. read more

My Chef friend and Co-Owner of MasterKraft Foods, Chef Walter Ashcraft introduced me to this family owned and operated Thai and Asian infused eatery. When we first approached it I thought, "Wait ,this place has sandwiches??" I was initially apprehensive about it. Asian & Thai sandwich place was not on my radar. But man, are you guys in for a treat. The owners are super friendly. As a matter fact they were closed when we got there and still invited us in with a smile. They made me my first ever Thai tea and it was rich, creamy and delicious!!! Next up was the in house, made fresh daily, baguette sandwich with grilled pork. Let's stop right here. As a Louisiana native, I love French bread. THIS is the best French bread in Texas bar none! Crunchy and flaky on the outside. Moist and buttery on the inside. Perfect! The sandwich itself? Outstanding!! With perfect amounts of cilantro, pickled carrots and onions, the grilled pork just melts in your mouth. You can't get this flavor combo anywhere else. This was my first time trying NG Cafe. I had seen someone rave about this place on our neighborhood page in Pflugerville. I work within a reasonable distance, so decided to try it at lunch. I walked in and was immediately greeted, the smell was amazing. I already knew what I wanted after stalking their menu online for a bit before I went. I ordered a chicken banh mi (no jalapenos) mango sweet rice and 2 sesame hollow rolls. My entire order was based off the reviews I had read. Plus I have had mango sweet rice before at another establishment locally. My chicken banh mi was exactly as I ordered. full of fresh veggies, the bread was crisp and crunchy on the outside and chewy on the inside. It tasted and smelled fresh. Only downside to the sandwich is I wish it had more meat in it. The chicken was delicious but sparse. On to my mango sweet rice; it was hot (loved that) but again portion was tiny. For a few cents more at the other local establishment I get triple the amount of mango sweet rice. Don't get me wrong, it was delicious, just wish there was more for the 5.50 I paid. The seaseme hollow rolls were AMAZING, and for 1.00 who can beat that?!? I bought 2, just in case I loved them I had another one :) I ended up sharing one of them with a coworker and she loved them as much as I did. I'll definitely be back. Also, while waiting for my food I noticed there was a soup and salad bar in the corner that was available complimentary for dine in customers. I will need to dine in for lunch sometime to check that out. All in all it's great fresh food! read more

I'm disappointed that this place is only a 1.5. The food wasn't good at all and the service was pretty bad. The pad see ew noodles lacked flavor while the beef was super salty, and I like salty. I've never been so sad about not liking my pad see ew before. (They spell it phad see ew). Their grilled catfish was decent, cooked right and the sauce was good just nothing spectacular. The crab rangoons were probably the best thing here only because you can't really mess up cream cheese and fried, still not the greatest I've had. The Thai tea was good too, just on the sweet side. For the service.. the waitress was nice. But lacking I'm sad to say. Very unhelpful and a little on the slow side. I wouldn't mind her if the food was food. So sad I won't be back. read more

We were craving Thai food so we set off to discover a Thai restaurant we hadn't been to before. The best dish of the 3 we had was the yellow curry chicken. Great flavor, tender meat, just the sauce over rice was perfect for me. Pah Thai - was your typical PT. Nothing unusual, pretty standard but I thought the chicken here was drier than the curry chicken. Beef with Green Beans - Can remember the name. The beef was ok but the green beans had the fish sauce flavor that I didn't find went well with the dish. I should have tried the beef and brocolli dish instead. Free salad bar and soup. I would have liked to have seen more choices on their lunch menu, perhaps they will make what ever you ask but it seemed more stream lined than most Thai places. I have a high bar for Thai, a 3 for me is pretty high and I'm having a hard time finding a Thai place in Austin that compares with some of my favorite places growing up (Seattle) - so don't let my 3 scare you away. read more

Overall very pleased with this place. I don't think it's the most authentic tasting place in Austin, but the food is still very good. They have a pretty large menu. We asked the waitress what she recommended. Ended up getting the evil jungle curry (spicy 4). The food came very large bowl with ample amounts of meat and veggies. Also it was actually spicy! My boyfriend had the combination pad kee Mao (spicy 4). There were many veggies and the noodle to meat ratio was about equal. Between his and my dishes, I couldn't decide which was better. This is based on our first visit but it won't be our last. Chang Thai is a delightful find tucked away near the WalMart near I35 & Parmer Lane. I had a very tasty and satisfying Phad Ga-Prow with tofu and my companion had the equally fine Tom Kha soup and we both left happy that we chanced upon this restaurant in the first place. I ordered my Ga-Prow with 4 out of 5 stars spicy and it was delightfully spicy without overriding the taste of the Tofu and the large cuts of vegetables. I really enjoyed this dish. The accompanying brown rice was nutty and tasty and was a substantial portion. I'm a big guy and I left quite satisfied. My companion was equally satisfied with her soup, it was full of chicken and vegetables. It was a slow night but the service was good natured and attentive. Our order was on our table within 10 minutes and the price was right. We look forward to more. read more

I first fell in love with this restaurant when it went by a different name. Their grilled pork sandwich is a meal I will always remember. Today i tried the beef noodles soup. It blew my mind; think pho but better. Please give them a try the Woman who runs it could really use your support and they deserve it. The exterior looks very tacky with a bright green window banner running all around the restaurant. It looks like one of those cheesy wavy borders teachers use in their classroom, only the ugliest color and oversized, in your face. The interior isn't unpleasant, but it also doesn't feel cohesive. The booths are very uncomfortable, and the decor is mediocre. Nothing really feels like it's in place. The food just didn't taste like anything to me. Mostly bland with occasional hints of tangy, sweet, or salty. I wouldn't come here again, unfortunately. I really wanted to like this place, since it's so close to my apartment. My co-worker had been talking about this place forever. He and his girlfriend loved it and finally got everyone to try it. The service was extraordinary, we went at an off time. After we placed our order, they mentioned to us that there was a soup bar with any order of food. The meals were fantastic. The Banh-Mi baguettes are baked fresh in house. I just love the vegetarian tofu bánh mì. She makes the bread, tofu and condiments all from scratch and with love. I cannot have any other bánh mì anywhere else! The tofu just melts in your mouth! This place is fire, best Bahn Mi I have had, and I have eaten Bahn Mi all over the place. Located inside Chang Thai, this restaurant within a restaurant is surpassing it's parent, and Chang Thai is a well above average American Thai place. Everything that goes into the sandwich is home made, and it shows. The owner bakes her own bread which is a perfection for a banh mi sandwich. Nice chew to the crust, perfect softness inside. She makes her own mayo, which ads a creamy unctousness and a perfect foil to the raw jalapenos. Her veggies are crisp and fresh, not soft and vinegary like I have had at other places. Now for the meat, she offers 3 meat offerings - pork, chicken, and shrimp. Tofu is also available. I have had the pork and shrimp, both offerings were flavorful and perfectly cooked, and she did not skimp on the fillings either. All for $6 for the pork, and $8 for the shrimp. I usually get pate in my bahn mi, but these were so good, I did not miss it. If you are looking for an amazing bahn mi, or just a great sandwich, check this place out. read more

The food has changed since I first went--and not for the better...They now serve Vietnamese sandwiches and weird buns with wacky fillings. The shrimp sandwich was very good but the mystery meat sandwich (head cheese or some other processed pork??) was pretty gross. I'd rather go to Chinatown on N Lamar. This location has housed an excellent Thai restaurant for years. The new owners have kept the old recipes and dishes, and added some new items along with more ethnic diversity, including baked goods. The decor has been updated, as well. The service is excellent, and the restaurant is usually not too crowded. The prices are excellent for the quality of food served, and is definitely what I would call affordable. The Pad Thai and the Drunken Noodles are two of my favorite dishes, and they have a number of excellent curry dishes, as well. In my opinion, this is one of the best Thai/Asian restaurants in Austin! read more
