They warned me that the banh xeo would take some time, but it was delivered hot and crispy within 10 minutes, full of tofu and made vegan on request! This unassuming family owned restaurant is tucked away in a strip mall near Walmart and Red Robin. Upon entering you're met with the smell of fresh baked goods, as this restaurant makes its own pastries. The restaurant is small, but clean and very busy. The owners are super helpful when deciding on what to order. I chose the basil fried rice and Thai ice tea. Both were good, but the rice was a bit bland. NG Cafe's menu is an interesting mix of Vietnamese and Thai, and their baked goods looked amazing, so I figured I'd check them out. I got the Singapore style noodles with chicken--decent portion, good amount of curry powder, and the chicken was really tender, so I definitely enjoyed it. The meal also come with a free cup of either hot and sour or egg drop soup, which is nice! I opted for the egg drop soup, which was delicious. I also ended up getting a box of their lemon cookies. Highly recommend those. They're super soft and melt in your mouth. They look and taste like little lemon clouds, so I saved a few for my friends and I to eat during the eclipse :) The sea salt chocolate chip cookie was ok, but it tasted like it was made with vegetable oil or margarine instead of butter, which is a pet peeve of mine. It wasn't bad, but I wouldn't order it again. Service was really friendly, and the cafe has a nice relaxed vibe to it. Overall, really enjoyed my lunch here, and I'm planning to try one of their cheesecakes next time too since they looked amazing. read more

What appears to be a family opened restaurant, NG Cafe is exactly the kind of small business I feel so fulfilled in going all out with my takeout order. I've never dined in, but the service and care for takeout by the owners is always top notch, and the food is delicious! I love their stir fried noodle dishes (pad thai, drunken noodle, pad see ew, all of it) and fully appreciate that each dish has a distinct, complex flavor profile rather than some restaurants where it tastes like the same dish with different noodles. Their portions are healthy, and when paired with an appetizer order (or two), I often can save half of an entree for the next day. To emphasize their care for the food they prepare you for takeout, they carefully wrapped each spring roll in Saran Wrap to help retain the moisture of the exterior so it doesn't turn hard and crunchy. They also pour the Vietnamese coffee for you upon arrival for pickup so it's as fresh as it can get (no open container sitting around in the fridge.) Note that it isn't phin made, but it slaps just like Vietnamese coffee should. Finally, their mango sticky rice is so hard to share. I just want that gooey, sweet, chewy rice goodness to myself! We also decided to order a slice of a chocolate cookie dough and Oreo cake, because why not, and wow, wow, wow. So good!!! 5/5 - love to support! read more

The house-made baguette had the perfect texture, and the meat was really flavorful. Oh how we wish this place closer to home! We love Banh Mi sandwiches and found this place after a long search. It's run by an elderly couple which as seniors is a plus for us, but more importantly the bread and tofu was excellent!! Such a wonderful family-owned restaurant that serves all my favorite Vietnamese dishes! Whether you're ordering takeout or dining in, rest assured that your food will be prepared with great care. If I had to recommend only one thing from their menu, it would be their vermicelli noodles with grilled pork (Bun Cha Ha Noi) which is made very light, fresh, and balanced with the veggies and fish sauce. I'm a huge fan of their spring rolls, too, which are extra extra crispy and come with lettuce wraps and veggies so you can grab, roll, and dip them in vinegar like you're supposed to. Their summer shrimp rolls are excellent, as well, and served with a delicious peanut sauce. This place is so so delicious! And the family that owns it is the absolute sweetest. We visited NG Cafe on a chilly Austin night and this was the perfect atmosphere and menu for the occasion. We went with the turmeric pancakes, Tom Kha soup, beef drunken noodles and the pork belly bahn mi. We loved it all, but our favorite was the pork belly bahn which came on a homemade flaky delicious roll. We took up two tables for all the food we ordered (oops!). They have an amazing lineup of homemade pastries and desserts made in-house by the owner's son. We ordered a slice of the cookie dough cake and it's probably one of the best cakes I've ever had. Do yourself a favor and grab the sesame roll while you're at it(10/10). I cannot wait to go back and try the rest of the menu. Definitely give this place a try, you won't regret it! read more

Stopped by for a quick lunch and luckily we were able to order and get a table. The owners are so kind and welcoming. The banh mi's are my favorite in the area! The bread is perfectly crispy and soft, the grilled pork was delicious and the veggies were so fresh. The drunken noodles are so tasty! We opted for chicken instead of beef and we still loved the combo of veggies and flavors. The Thai Tea was so refreshing and sweet for these hot summer days. Had the Pad See Ew, the Papaya Salad Thai style and Chicken Potstickers -- everything was good. The Pad See Ew was very flavorful! It was also quite a high protein to noodle ratio, the broccolini was sparse. The Papaya salad was also great. The potstickers were pretty good too. I ordered a few things so I could have some variety, but my overall experience was just decent. Peppery Shrimp Banh Mi - I'll start with the best, I haven't had a shrimp banh mi before and I didn't expect much, but I really enjoyed it. The bread/filling ratio was great, and the shrimp pieces were pretty large. The only issue I had with it is the same issue I have with a lot of banh mis in Austin, they're too expensive! I miss the old days where you could get a large one for under $5. Drunken Noodles and Basil Stir Fry - perhaps I just ordered the wrong dishes (I usually get a curry and a noodle dish), but both of these dishes just tasted bland. Nothing in the flavor profile to set itself apart, tasted like it came from an Americanized restaurant honestly. Not terrible, but nothing special. I'd be willing to give NG Cafe another try in the future, but my first experience wasn't really all that great. read more

I ordered the pad see ew with chicken, ube cheesecake, and Vietnamese coffee. The pad see ew was pretty good but not amazing. My food was very hot and fresh. The Vietnamese coffee lacked flavor and was not very good. Maybe it was an off day but this was a really unimpressive Vietnamese coffee and I wouldn't recommend ordering it. The ube cheese cake was pretty good. It had an awesome, creamy, but light texture. A choice of soup came with my food. I picked the hot and sour soup. It was delicious and refreshing! I have been wanting to taste some Banh Mi! I was in town working around the area. I searched for the highest rated restaurants around me and this place popped up. I ordered the ribeye Banh Mi and it was delicious! The meat was so tender, I had to pull a chunk out to see if it was grounded ribeye. The veggie mix was fresh and crunchy! We visited here as part of the Asian restaurant passport and are happy to have discovered a new favorite for us. The banh xeo was cooked really well and perfectly crispy and stuffed. The banh mi is really good here with good portion as well. They let you choose a soup with every meal which we loved, we both got a perfectly salty egg drop soup. They also have a great bakery selection with cakes, pastries and more. This is such a cute spot and would be such a great working space too. The matcha was also deliciously sweetn and creamy. The BEST bahn mi in the Austin area! I drive half an hour past several bahn mi spots to get to NG. I get the tofu bahn mi, and my boyfriend gets the grilled pork bahn mi. Another review that is long overdue. The staff here has been excellent and super nice. They handled the pandemic extremely well: shutting down indoor dining early on and making online ordering and pickup simple and safe. We've occasionally grabbed weekend lunch here and were excited to see their indoor dining has opened back up again, a few months ago. We mainly stop by for their Banh Mi (Vietnamese sandwiches). Their famous french bread is crispy and delicious and the fillings are consistently great. Over time, we've tried their grilled pork, classic combo, pork belly, tofu, and meatball banh mi and they were all excellent. My personal usual order has been their meatball banh mi. The meatballs are tender with fantastic seasoning. Their Vietnamese Iced Coffee is also sweet and refreshing, and it's hard not to complement the meal with a cup. The prices have slowly gone up over the years (where hasn't?), but the quality of the food is still well worth it. read more

First, the owner is such a sweet lady. She was very welcoming when I arrived. She even threw in a nice extra treat for me on the way out. The food itself is wonderful. I got the classic combo bahn mi and it was extremely tasty starting with the homemade French bread. I really enjoyed the pate on it, subtle but present. Best Fusion - my taste buds crave NG CAFE. First - the French Baguettes are tops! The Green Curry with French Bread is a delight. Dipping the bread is my favorite way to enjoy the flavorful curry at NG. Spicy if you need it. I like to order 1 less on the 1-5 spicy scale to enjoy the tasty range of flavors. Singapore Noodles with Shrimp - love this dish, almost always eat this ! - but mad I don't eat all the other great dishes. Bahn Mi Sandwiches - Best Bread makes Best Sandwiches - This is where NG is best in Austin. Fresh Tea- Clear and Rich Flavor Friendly Staff- so nice to eat in the restaurant. Everything I ate at NG Cafe is great, i want to try more but so stuck on my favorites. The Lemon Cookies are perfect sweet and lemon. Let me start off by saying- I love this place! People are nice and the food is good. We order to-go once a week. Why the three stars? The spice levels are never, ever (ever!) consistent. I get the crab fried rice usually. Started out with level 3 and it was a tiny bit too spicy to me so I worked my way down to level 1. However, level 1 is either not spicy AT ALL (I have to add chili oil at home) or spicier than the level 3 I originally tried. My husband, who is obsessed with spicy food, got some fried rice a while back that he couldn't even finish and had to toss because it was so spicy (at a level 1). What he could eat ended up making him sick. Anyway, love this place, truly! But please do better so we can continue to support you. read more

So far I've had a pork one, a chicken one and a pork belly one. The Pork one is my favorite still, but you can't really go wrong with any of them.
