Stopped by New Wave Bagel in Encinitas to grab bagels for a few of my accounts in the area and had such a great experience. The staff was incredibly nice and went above and beyond once they realized the bagels were for multiple shops. They helped me split everything into separate boxes and even made sure each one had cream cheese and utensils for spreading. That level of thoughtfulness and customer service really stood out. The bagels themselves were fresh and really good, with a solid variety to choose from. Yes, it's a little on the pricier side, but honestly that's pretty standard for Encinitas. You can tell they care about what they're putting out. I'm especially excited to come back once they expand their kitchen. Sounds like hot sandwiches are coming soon, which will be a game changer. I'm a sucker for a breakfast bagel sandwich. Definitely looking forward to bringing more of my clientele food from here and sharing the love. Great bagels, great service, great location!

I love that this is a simple bagel and cream cheese joint. Nothing crazy no crazy toppings and extra things to add on. It's straight to the point you pick your bagel type and cream cheese and that's it. The bagels were so fresh! Cream cheese was amazing! And I love that you spread it yourself! Service was so fast! The building is a small quaint joint. Highly recommend!

Finally got around to trying new wave bagel! They are only open 4 days a week which was part of the reason it took me so long. We didn't have a long line which was great (I've heard it can get pretty lengthy). They have a ton of interesting flavors to chose from. I went with a rosemary sea salt and a honey butter salt. They also have a wide variety of cream cheese flavors. One thing I didn't love was there is no toaster. Now, arguably a toaster isn't necessary for bagels when they come out fresh & warm, but these were not warm so that was a bit of a miss for me. Still enjoyed them nonetheless and would go back to try some other flavors. I didn't have the opportunity to try the coffee but my friends did and said it was great. We briefly met the roaster who was kind and friendly, much like the rest of the staff.

A small unassuming cafe off the side of the main road offers a variety of bagels and baked goods. I enjoyed the smear much more than the bagels but the bagels were good none the less. Do come early though because they sold out of a lot of flavors before noon. The pricing was also affordable and it's a nice place to grab an early morning bite if you're nearby.

Amazing sourdough bagels & cream cheese flavors!!! I've tried several different flavors and they are all so good! Their savory bialy bagels are absolute fire! You must try!! Service was quick & friendly! If you have any questions, they have answers!! I'm hoping they get a toaster soon... but the bagels are still amazing not toasted! Will be back to try more flavors!!

Let me tell you about these 100% sourdough bagels from New Wave Bagels! Delicious! They sell savory and sweet combination and a variety of different smears to intensify your bagel taste buds! My first visit since their soft opening on 8/30/25. New Wave shares the space with Crossings Coffee Roasters where you can also order your caffeine fix! The wait line for the bagels can vary and when they are out, they are out! Arrive early to get a larger selection to choose from. Currently, they have about 8 bagel selections. I choose to try the Peach and Blackberry Bialy, Double Chocolate, Toasted Nori Sesame with the Chives Smear! I went home and made a Smoke Salmon and fried egg bagel. I look forward to the finish construction of the shop and a variety of more options! If they're out, don't worry, you can also head over to Ironsmith Roasters to grab a bagel and coffee.

I came for the bagels, excited to have high quality bagels in North County. And while they did not disappoint, the cream cheeses wound up being the real star, and I say that as someone who does not usually care about cream cheese. We tried three bagels (chili crisp everything, rosemary garlic, and brown butter honey) and three cream cheeses (chili crisp scallion, jalapeño green goddess, and lemon meringue) and generally paired them in those orders. All were good, but the brown butter honey bagel was the surprise favorite, while the chili crisp scallion and lemon meringue were the favorite spreads. Highly recommend this shop. The owner was also incredibly friendly. Can't wait to go back

Absolutely stunning new bagel spot! Quite popular so get there before it opens. Super friendly staff, with great fresh bagel options to choose from. Tasty smear options as well. Looks unassuming from the outside but there's a cute interior with a fresh and new feel!

The texture of these bagels!! So fluffy and chewy at the same time. They don't have a toaster, so the bagels are room temperature, but they were delicious when ripped and dipped into their schmears. The honey vanilla schmear tasted a little yogurty, but the chive schmear was so savory and creamy. Can't wait to come back and try new flavors!

Loving all of the new bagel spots in San Diego and New Wave was one I was really excited to try! They have sourdough bagels and the texture was great, nice and firm on the outside but fluffy with a good chew in the middle. I came around 11 am on a Saturday and they only had a few flavors left, but they were both really good. My only wish is that the bagels came out hot or that there was an option to toast. Overall the line moved pretty fast and there was a quick turn around on the tables outside the shop. I would definitely recommend if you're looking for unique bagel/cream cheese flavors and are in the Encinitas area. This is a highly rated spot amid the San Diego bagel boom! Can't wait until they get more situated and expand the amount of days open/offerings.

Such a great new place that opened up! I recommend getting there really early as the bagels sell out quick-- I tried a plain bagel with the honey and vanilla schmear. The bagel was so fresh, soft on the inside with a crunch on the outside. The schmear was perfectly whipped and smooth. It's a small place but love the casual ambiance. Both the cashier and barista were so friendly-- I can't wait to come back!

Sandi S.

Pre ordered to avoid getting there and my treats being sold out. Easy to preorder system. I walked up to the front and my order was ready. Staff were extremely nice and seemed genuinely interested in what I ordered and ensuring they didn't sell out. The inside was spacious and I liked the outside tables. With the exception of the double chocolate bagel, I'd reorder everything I got. (The double chocolate was more delicately flavored than I expected but still good). I can't wait to try more of their seasonal bagels. (And definitely try the vanilla cream cheese!)

It's also one of those rare places that truly works for everyone -- families, friends catching up, casual dates, or even a solo stop. There's also really cute to dog oriented, snack, snacks, and outfits. I'll have to check out their wine in more detail. I mean from the grocery store if you head back then you go straight into the farm grounds. There is a 12 or $15 charge for a farm tour but if you have kids, it's perfect cause you get to go see the farm animals, including the owner's horse and they have a cute little train ride. In the back is also a brewery of their craft brews. See them in pictures I've added. I definitely need to go back to check out the craft brewery. -No dogs allowed on the farm portion I went upstairs to have brunch, which is a new addition to the area. Staff was definitely attentive. I recommend making reservations for this so that you get the tables either outside overlooking the farm or the field. We did a walk-in for four people so we could only get a table on the inside. It's definitely a cool place to hang out temperature wise. Food was pretty quick to come out. Portion sizes are moderate to big that we had to take home some stuff. We did have an issue where the chicken was undercooked, but they were able to remedy that very quickly. Definitely get the beet hummus. I only wish they had more crudités accompany it. You can see it only came out in a small little dish. Probably would recommend either sizing down the hummus or going up on the vegetables to make it a little bit more complete. The chicken and pancake was definitely interesting and not what I expected. Pancake is carrot and lemon, but you can't really taste the lemon. It only had sparse carrot in it, but definitely still worth a taste. The chicken was definitely savory and more herby so it kind of overpowered the pancake a bit. Definitely chicken packed. Fries came out pretty soggy, which was a downside. The root vegetable has looked pretty good and it was definitely a sizable portion. The eggs and pasture was a little bit interesting in the sense that day. It was kind of a fried egg surrounded by a pasta sauce and then there's bread ciabatta slices on the plate. It's pretty good not overly salty or overly tart for the sauce. Definitely a good keto/Paleo option if you don't eat the bread. We also had their banana bread, which was really good - it wasn't able to take pictures of it since we demolished it pretty quickly. I highly recommend any bakery items. It's a very family friendly affair as we saw large families with numerous children coming in and you can have a place to let the dogs run in the small field front of the restaurant. I saw a lot of other families is bringing their dogs out onto the patio portion of the restaurant. Overall, the ambience is very family friendly and I would definitely come back here again for a chill morning brunch. Note that they close at 1 PM for brunch! Warning: that there's a limited parking so you need to get there early! They will have a traffic mediator once it's full

So I keep trying new spots hoping one finally hits. I'd driven past Urban Teri Kitchen a bunch of times taking my kids to practices and games and finally decided to stop in. Didn't even check Yelp first. Just went in blind based on a good feeling about the place. Glad I did. I ordered the half-and-half with chicken teriyaki and katsu, and honestly it was one of the better teriyaki plates I've had anywhere around here. The chicken was flavorful, the katsu was crispy without being greasy, and everything tasted fresh. It's a little pricier than some teriyaki spots, but the quality backs it up. My wife and I could easily split one order next time. I came in around 4 PM, so it wasn't packed, but the people inside looked happy, the restaurant was clean, and the whole place just had a really good vibe. Sometimes you can tell within a minute whether a place cares about what they're doing, and this felt like one of those spots. There's a reason they've got 4.7 stars. If anything, I'd say that rating is deserved.

And the second time I am going to this restaurant. Of course! (I had to check it out myself first, before bringing anyone)! So I am at Lilo, Carlsbad once again but this time I am bringing a small group! They seat us outside first, with the most amazing appetizers anyone could ever ask for. They also give us a grape pressed drink that is so thirst quenching and yummy. What a great start. Just check out the pictures here. Then they come to escort us to our table. There are only 2 tables in the entire place. The rest are comfy seats around a counter. Fortunately, we are right in front of the chefs working to create, plate and deliver the food, giving us the details of what we are about to eat. Is this really worth a trip to Carlsbad and spending this much? Yes. A hundred times YES! Please look at the Pix to get an idea of what was served. So many wonderful flavors, beautifully plated. One of the first things we get to try in the courtyard is Black Truffle Sable. It's goat cheese and more between a thin roasted Chicken Skin. That plus a few other tastings. What a great way to start a meal sitting around a beautiful tree that had to be airlifted into the courtyard. There is not one thing about this experience that does not make you feel warm and fuzzy ... well taken care of.  It's worth the expense. And again, a great way to start the experience. "Madai Rock Crab is a perfect bite" says Robyn. It's course after course of creative and a creatively plated variety of fish, with amazing sauces that no one normally makes at home. You certainly, I certainly would not be able to create these flavor profiles. After a couple of courses, Ana Maria is still talking about the starter that was 'very earthy the first bite, but with wine as a gelatin you can really taste, as well as the goat cheese". Halfway through the meal we find ourselves agreeing that N25 Kaluga Caviar is 'the bomb'. So good. So unexpected. Ice Cream & Caviar. It's their signature dish, because Chef Eric says: "It's been on the menu from the start". All their seafood is seriously, intentionally fresh and good. The quality and creativity is off the charts. Miyazaki Wagyu has a sauce that is just ah-mazing. And while the beef itself is great, "it's the sauce that really makes you appreciate what you're eating". Ana Maria continues "I love the contrast of flavors and the meat is very tender". Robyn adds: "The vinegar flavor is just exquisite". If I'm being honest, I don't even eat steak, but the flavor profile on this dish is what you would hope beef tastes like". I went back in my blogs to hear myself say this very thing about Ludo Lefevre's Steak at one of this pop ups in Los Angeles, 2012. I guess I can't say I don't eat cow any more. I'll have to change it to 'don't eat cow often'! As we continue Madhu comments: "This is just the right amount of food". Ana Maria comments: "The scallops are amazing with 2 different sauces". And I must say beef and scallops are my most unfavorite proteins, but both of these are so good, both of these are treated with such love and care, you find yourself enjoying food you haven't really enjoyed before. Towards the end, Ana Maria comments: "I like it when there are more chefs than people". There's about 14 chefs and 35 people, but it's less people at any given time. And she's right. There's so many chefs preparing and presenting their food to you that it feels that way. It's time to pay our bill and they give us a special space to do so. We are back in the courtyard sipping tea when I overhear Robyn say: "This whole meal has been a perfect bite". What a wonderful birthday she is having. And they did give her what I call 'A Birthday Bite'. We each take our own small taste and find it hard to believe how delicious this dessert is. My favorite thing about this evening happens at the end, when Chef Eric let's me know he is participating in Chefs Across America with Chef Marian, so I get to interview him for my new series soon! Whoo hoo! I will say if you are looking for a special occasion place, Lilo is like going to France without having to pay for the flight. Everything is created with such love and care. I say: 'Do it'! And I'm sure I will be back! With garlic, gusto & gratitude, Chef Marian San Diego Foodies Carlsbad Foodies
