I grew up in San Diego and went to high school in Solana Beach at Santa Fe Christian so all of my friends who lived close by in North County were all huge fans of Pipes and we visited frequently during those years. I myself am from La Jolla so I'm not close in the area, but I stopped in today after a 15 year break and it was just as good as I remembered it. It was quite busy on December 26 in the morning and even though it was packed, our order was made very quickly. Parking is really easy because you can just park in the giant Seaside Market parking lot right across from the restaurant. The menu is not very large, they focus on breakfast burritos and small breakfast plates, such as eggs and pancakes, as well as offering a large coffee selection. Pricing is extremely fair and the portion sizes are very large. The breakfast burritos could easily be split between two people and they will even split the burrito for you if you ask them when you're ordering it. Today I chose the #1 Sausage Breakfast Burrito and really enjoyed it. I especially liked the avocado and egg combo and just loved the simple and hearty flavors. Overall, it's a really solid breakfast burrito spot in a really pretty part of San Diego. I love how close it is to the water, I appreciate the casual vibe, and I was really happy to see that it was just as good as it was when I was much younger. Always a must stop when in the area... can't go wrong with scrambled eggs, fantastic home style potatoes with a bit of shredded sharp cheese, and toast!!! I love this spot! I've walked past it several times and always see the outside seating completely full in the mornings so I had a feeling it was going to be a good spot! Long time North County residents, we have only come to Pipes once before many years ago. The long lines deter us from dining but today we took a chance. Parking is always a challenge but if you park further north along San Elijo you can get a short walk and by the time you got to Pipes, you have worked up an appetite! Many customers favorites marked by a hibiscus flower on the menu. We went with the 3 Egg Tacos and BLT&A! Great choices and very tasty. Indoor atmosphere and patio space is very relaxed and dog friendly. Host and service is very friendly. Skinny Latte was just enough of a pick me up for a Sunday morning! Me, the hubby and our friends were visiting the San Diego area and on our way we were looking for a good breakfast spot and saw Pipes had great reviews on Yelp. We were able to find a parking spot right in front. The vibes of the restaurant are a good mix of surfer SoCal / Hawaiian laid back vibes. The hubby and I decided to share the Big breakfast with French toast ($15.75) and I ordered an orange and spice tea while the hubby had a coffee. Our breakfast was delicious and it was more than enough for both of us to share. The staff was very friendly. One of the best breakfast burritos in north county (although they are very potato-ey HOWEVER they are cooked and seasoned perfectly so I'm not mad.) Ordered the #2 breakfast burrito no cheese add avocado. Bacon is cooked perfectly. Tortilla is fresh and warm. I love Pipes Cafe, it's one of my favorite spots to get a breakfast burrito in San Diego! I love that they have different burrito options so you can mix up what you order each time. Love this place. When I'm in this area I always come by. They have great food. I usually get a breakfast burrito. I've heard their cheeseburgers are amazing but I don't eat beef so I don't know. I ordered the tuna sandwich with lettuce added and it was tasty and filling. The service is friendly. It's a small surf shop vibe inside. Such a great place to grab a bite and really good coffee. It used to be cash only now it' accepts cards. Breakfast is huge and they have a cute coffee bar inside that you can order specialty coffee at with milk substitutes. The only con is they don't have gluten free bread or fruit instead of the toast with the breakfast, so I wasn't able to sub the toast out, I just did without it. Staff is super friendly and food comes out pretty quick. Seating is a first come first serve basis so I grab seats while my hubby stands in line. Check it out you won't be disappointed. read more

Based off all the positive reviews and the fact that it's the most popular menu item, I was really excited to try the breakfast burrito but was sadly disappointed. I got the #1 breakfast burrito but swapped sausage with bacon (which is a little more for some reason) per the employee's recommendation. The burrito tasted ok, nothing special, very salty, and very little avocado (see pictures). Maybe the other items on the menu are good, but probably wouldn't be coming back here.
