I read several Five Star reviews on Nelsons Diner, in particular that of Yelpette Ilona P. who noted Nelsons as being "diner perfect," so I had to find out for myself. To my delight I too found it to be about as diner perfect as a diner can be. Nelson's is a rather smallish near "hole in the wall" of a place located at the north end of the aging Garden Isles Shopping Center next to the divey looking Play by Play Sports Bar, a real rat hole of place if I ever saw one. Though a neighborhood diner where everybody seems to know everybody else, I was given as warm and as diner witty of a greeting as anyone else. Indeed, I found the diner staff to be about as pleasant and efficient of any diner staff I've experienced. When you enter the immediate eye impact is that everything, the entire décor of the place is late 50's Elvis Presley with the walls, the ceilings and everything else timely festooned with 45 rpm records, pictures, pennants, and other such memorabilia; even the menu cover being of a pink Cadillac. As such it is very nicely appointed, a decorative job well done plus spotlessly clean. The breakfast and lunch menu offerings are wide ranging not only with what one might term typical diner foods but given names such as Memphis Platter, Vegas Strip eggs, Graceland ham, Hunka Burnin Love burger, and Hound Dog, but with some things more of local orientation such as Cubans and pulled pork. Besides their menu selection there are also daily special and board offerings. I ordered the Cuban which when served was huge in size, not the classical or traditional Cuban, but one loaded with huge amounts of Carolina pulled pork, all nicely covered with a melted cheese and a special of the house tasty, tangy mustard. Though I'm a rather big eater I couldn't finish the entire sandwich which I also noted was the case with some of the other customers who were likewise leaving with some of their boxed leftover take homes. As a tip, the Nelson's is small, popular, and during the prime lunch hour gets packed up quickly hence if you hit it during that hour you may end up having to wait for available seating. Rating it not as a restaurant, but as a diner, I found it to be about as good as any of our area diners get, hence Five Stars. read more

Came here with some family (locals) and was SHOOK by how yummy it is! I ordered sausage, egg, and cheese on an everything bagel. The sandwich was dual layered and super filling! I also had sausage gravy over some hash browns. Let me tell you this: if you are getting anything here, you have to get the sausage gravy. This Midwesterner and her boyfriend both agree it's some of the best gravy we have ever tasted. The prices here are reasonable, wait staff fantastic, and decor fun. It's a cute little corner spot in a shopping plaza with a traditional 50's/Elvis theme. The service is ALWAYS spectacular no matter what time of the day you come. The staff is super friendly. The food is ALWAYS consistently amazing. The breakfast tops the chart. If you stop in for lunch or dinner though make sure to grab and burger or their fried chicken ! If you like me when I was 20 something and went clubbing, you probably did a Denny's break sometime around the wee hours of the morning. I remember the burgers & fries, patty melts, etc. back then and this place just brought it all back. I would have never noticed this place unless they would have done a media promotion. The staff here is super fun, and so was the music the night that I went (Thursday). I normally won't mention staff names but Courage (yes, that's his real name) was a ball of fun. This guy can easily pick you up and throw you out a window but he's a real teddy bear type that wants to make sure you come out of there happy...and I did. The rest of the staff was just as pleasant. Onion rings here rocked people. My friend had the patty melt and I had the vegetarian burger with the beyond meat patty. It's decorated like an old diner and someone in there really likes Elvis. Seating is limited, good attitudes are not. I'm writing this in the hopes of supporting local businesses that urgently need your patronage. When a customer orders anything, all you are suppose to do it write the order down, charge them appropriately, make the food, bring it to them, and they pay for it. You do not make a big deal about what somebody ordered. You do not question the customer about what they will eat it with. You do not go back to the kitchen and openly embarrass and make a customer uncomfortable by talking very loudly to the cook about what was ordered, to where the customer can hear you (was sitting by front door), as well as, other customers. If I could give zero stars I would! Just awful! They have outdoor seating, before we even saw the sign my husband went it's d advised we were seating outside. The. Someone serving another table passed and we said, please tell our waitperson we are here, 10 minutes with no one showing up, my husband goes back in to say we are ready to order now, 6 more minutes our waitress shows up, she is very nice. We order drinks and breakfast. She comes back with drinks, 2 napkins, one blows away as She is placing down and 2 forks. She says she will be right back with more napkins, never came back with them. Finally see her service another table, flag her dow, tell her one of the forks is Filthy, like it was taken off another table used, gag, and more napkins. Many, many more minutes later the food is served. Just awful! It was all cold, the hash browns were not fully cooked thru, disgusting. Then she gives us the wrong check and took another 30 minutes to get that corrected. Horrible service, disgusting food and one of the other busy body waitresses was a nasty miserable human excuse for being. Overall miserable experience. There are many multiple options for breakfast restaurants in south Fl. Avoid Nelson's!!! read more

Fantastic little local diner located in the cypress harbor neighborhood of Pompano Beach. The staff is always very friendly and always giving out the best service, refilling coffees or clearing tables. It is a little small and can get busy but since they've added the out door seating I haven't had any issues. My favorites are the biscuits and gravy (anything with sausage gravy really) as well as their breakfast sandwich's which you can get on multiple items my favorite being their fresh biscuits. read more

They paid for our food but given that this was my last day of my vacation it pretty much ruined the overall day.
