We took my daughter here for her birthday brunch. The Hen & the Hog has been on our radar for a while. So glad that we came. There is great outdoor seating. Service was ok. They were busy and our server was training so ordering and wrapping up took a little bit longer than usual but we weren't too concerned. I finally ended up getting the Full Breakfast Waffle. Someone else at the table had the Power Omelet. My food came out warm. I'm one of those people who prefers my meal arrive to the table hot. Came here on a weekday morning for the first time ever with my girlfriend and this place is pretty quaint and a bit on the smaller side but the atmosphere is nice. That is about all the positive things that I experienced here. Our waitress was Barbie and right off the bat we felt rushed to order. We had asked for some time to order since we did not know what we wanted to get yet and not even maybe 2 minutes later she comes back asking what we want. Mind you, it wasn't very busy at the time so I dont understand the rush to have us order. We ended up getting biscuits, brisket eggs Benedict, dulce de leche pancakes and a side of sausage links and bacon which all of which was honestly very mediocre. Now with so many positive reviews on Google and Yelp I had high expectations for everything and I brushed off the already poor service but surprisingly I was disappointed by the food aswell. To start, the biscuits were extremely crumbly and dry, supposedly they were house made but with how they were I would've preferred Walmart branded frozen biscuits. The pancakes did not taste like dulce de leche and I honestly couldn't describe what they tasted like. They weren't super sweet or fluffy and really just seemed like cheap store bought box mix with made with water. While I've never had eggs benedict before I have had brisket before and plainly put, the brisket here just tasted like and looked like pulled pork which was very disappointing. Everything else about the benedict was fine but certainly not something I'll drive over 45 minutes for. As for the bacon and sausage links, the bacon tasted like regular bacon but the links tasted kind of weird, sort of a mix of regular tasting links and some sort of maple flavoring which wasnt good.One of the worst parts of our time here was really the service, not once after we thanked her for handing our food to us or any other item she replied. Every time we would say thank you she would just stay silent and almost ignore us. Something I thought was ridiculous was when she came up to us while we were eating and essentially forced us to scan a QR code that was laminated on a lanyard she had on so we could leave a Google review. It's a long story, but we ended up discovering the Hen and the Hog because we wanted to go to Cracker Barrel for national pancake day. Cracker Barrel was packed with over an hour wait and so we searched for another breakfast restaurant nearby and WOW did we take it up a notch! What a charming and tasty southern style breakfast Café. The chairs and booths were very comfortable. The experience is lively with chatter of all the other customers. Despite the restaurant being filled. And the tiny checkered uniform shirts & blue jeans on the staff put the final touch on the southern country experience. Well done! The food was showstopping.
