We were staying down the street and passed Ned's on our way into the city. Read on Yelp they had a prime rib special on the weekends so decide to try it. Best Prime rib EVER! The staff is great and the fried green tomatoes and coconut shrimp are delicious too. Worth the wait but we got in with no waiting and hubby even got the end cut he asked for! This was recommended to us by a friend here in St. Augustine, Florida. The IS the place for locals for sure. Food is great, service was top notch, pricing is fair. All homemade food & desserts. Our server was very attentive & polite along with the staff. Menu changes at times so don't be surprised. Parking is limited and seating might seem crowded but it really isn't. I believe they also have a lot of to-go orders due to the busy counter area. Yes, I'll definitely go back. If you want some really good food, this IS the place. The ammonia smell in the place was a little overwhelming. The service was good and the food was very mediocre.

Nice menu - comfort food. New owner trying to keep it original. Diner feel with only locals. I got the Cuban. Need some attention to this sandwich - pickles and cherry peppers only on one side of sandwich and very little mustard. Pasta salad just so so. Meatloaf bland. Carrots were yummy. Giving three stars because they are trying but need more work. We'll come back to try something else. read more

Neds is a fine little place to grab a bite. The menu is vast. The food is good. Both food and environment has a kind of "homey" feel to it. Service is generally good, although they get incredibly busy and things can get a little frazzled. We love their extensive salad menu and they have a yeast dressing that is absolutely superb. Seating is a little close, so be prepared to wind your way through chairs to get seated and to overhear numerous conversation. Ned's tends to be a "locals" hang out. The daily specials are tasty and the price on the menu provides value. If you want to go out and have a consistently good meal and service Neds is the place to go. The food is always hot fresh and comes out of the kitchen incredibly fast. I have had so many things from the menu from the best Ruben sandwich in town, to the bang bang shrimp, there fried shrimp gives Osteins a run for the money, post roast was awesome, today I had the Seafood fra Diablo and was again impressed by the food at Neds. I am giving this spot 5 STARS, which I rarely do, not because of the food (which was delicious) or the ambience (which is a hometown feel). I had an AMAZING EXPERIENCE in a situation that could have been a turnoff. A mishap in the kitchen resulted in a shell piece in my bangbang shrimp. I assumed foreign material at first and was immediately helped by Chris, the ASM. Not only was he kind and courteous, but resolved the issue immediately and at time of checkout, he had removed the cost from my bill with no request from myself to do so. Hands down my favorite salads are from here. Between the south side salad with blackened chicken or the antipasto. And what really puts these salads on a magical level is the house dressing. Or as I like to call it "crack dressing". The first time I tried it I wasn't sure if I really like it or not due to it's unique garlicy taste but by the following day I was craving it again. I had the Turkey Haverti sandwich on panini bread. It was fabulous, with a big slice of tomato and bacon. The clam chowder was delicious and had clams and had an overall great flavor. So glad we accidentally stumbled upon this restaurant on our quick trip to St Augustine. It's located outside of the touristy area and the exterior of the restaurant is unnoticeable. We had coconut shrimp appetizer that was fried perfectly and had a good amount of coconut flavor but not overpowered by it. Kiddo had shrimp and fries which were devoured. Adults had lamb shank and blackened fish wrap which were both very delicious. Generous portions with flavorful food. Restaurant is casual with what appeared to be lots of locals...it was quite busy on a Wednesday night. Service was attentive. Plenty of parking. Absolutely recommend. read more

This place is great. It was our favorite place in St. Augustine. There is never a shortage of foods; portions are ludicrous. But getting a doggie bag was the answer to that short lived problem. Friendly staff & they work very well together. Very quick to get food in front you. Ordered Blackened Shrimp Salad $12, Philly Cheese Steak sandwich & crispy fries $9 and Bang Bang Shrimp, rice & teriyaki vegetables $12. Salad was amazing had real bacon chunks and shrimp was perfectly seasoned. Bang Bang sauce is a mayo, ranch & seasoning sauce which tastes really good. Bathrooms were cleaned & stocked. The decor was super cute & inviting. Saw other meals such as chicken parm & meatloaf... they were huge portions & smelled so good. Perhaps on my next visit. Only con was the Philly Cheese Steak sandwich didn't have enough onions & peppers on it so it was a little dry. Parking was a breeze & easy to find by large sign. read more

The locals always know the best places! This place is very unassuming, hard to describe the 'decor' but the food was awesome. Had the chicken pesada, which came with mashed potatoes (that tasted real!), cauliflower, carrots, red cabbage and a toasted roll. Wow, that's a lot of food for a $9 lunch! Enjoyed it and the funky local vibe, and they have a drive thru! The menu covers all the bases and it's seldom you see a busy lunch spot where all the waitresses are smiling. Lots of variety to satisfy what ever craving or choosy eater in your party - from tacos to burgers to salads to entrees with sides, you are sure to find something you want on their menu. I have never eaten anything less than amazing at Ned's. Their nachos are the way you would make them at home - as in they are plentiful. We've never finished the whole plate. A group of me and four of my graduate school friends decided to check out Ned's because online research had told us that the seafood was very good, and was reasonably priced. We were on vacation and are visiting from out of state. Our waitress Molly was energetic, very knowledgeable about the menu and was very sweet. We all ordered something different, and everything was amazing! Service was very quick and Molly was very attentive. I ordered the Flounder Hemingway, a special, lightly breaded with sesame seeds , and a sundried tomato paste on top, angel hair pasta and veggies and a piece of garlic bread. The fish was fresh and portions were perfect! My friends had the following and their reviews are included: The Butternut Flounder was tender and flavorful, and had a delicious herbed butter on it. The Bang Bang Shrimp was delicious, it had a little kick but was not spicy. The Blackened Salmon, a special, had chunks of lobster on top was excellent! The Panko-crusted Trigger was amazing, and it also was a special. It came with a guava poblano sauce, and black beans and rice. The fish is not local, but it was not overly breaded. Out of all the dishes, I felt that the trigger was the best! It was so tender and delicious! And yes, I tried all the dishes. I was interested in the guava poblano sauce, so the waitress said she would find out more for me. The next thing we knew, the owner stopped by and told us he used real fruit like guava or papaya and incorporated it into the butter. He was so nice, and very friendly, and gave us recommendations for downtown St. Augustine. We also had dessert...they ALL were delicious! Key lime pie, peanut butter pie, rasberry chambord and rasberry cheesecake. Yup, tried all of those too! The rasberry cheesecake had rasberries actually in the cheesecake, not just on top, and the chambord cake did not have an intense alcohol flavor. YUM! You cannot miss this place! After reading all the good reviews, we were really expecting a good dining experience. It was not to be! Even though there were plenty of tables, we were seated near the kitchen, where the traffic back and forth from the waitstaff and people getting take-out, was constant. I was told that we could have asked to be seated at another table, but I didn't think that should have been necessary. Wish that I could rave about the fish. It wasn't overcooked, that's the best that can be said. The sauce was on-the-side, so didn't even have a nice presentation, and the potato crust seemed not well-seasoned and bland. Down here, as my mom is in hospice and with my bro and nephew. While my brother grew up with me in Manhattan he favors fishing and more downhome stuff that I would ever even read about he recommended this place. Sort of dumpy inside with formaica and the kitchen chair chair around the formaica I was skeptical. Looking at the menu there was much Italian (really and no way for moi at a place like this) and some local seafood. Well we did have calamari and some friend cheese. Decent. Them the reason this place makes it in a big way. The fried shrimp platter. Amazing shrimp, perfect cole slaw (hard to find it this good) and the best fries I have ever eaten. Way too much to eat so have the platter of 8 and not 12. Wonderful food. Super service. Great prices. We went for dinner with a party of 9, including several picky eaters. The menu has a wide variety of foods, so everyone found something they felt comfortable ordering. The potstickers were delicious, particularly the dipping sauce. My husband says the calamari was some of the best he has ever had. I had the blackened chicken pasta w/ sundried tomatoes and olives. The sauce was creamy and rich--a very nice dish. Other members of our party had the fish tacos, cuban sandwich, fried shrimp, mahi special, and chicken enchilada. Everyone was happy with their meals. The kids' menu has the typical fried chicken fingers, hot dog, spaghetti, etc. But Ned's had no problem making a child's sized and priced mixed bowl with chicken, rice, and black beans, which my daughter loved. The prices are very reasonable. Fans of Gypsy Cab will be happy to know Ned's serves the same salad dressings that are so popular in St. Augustine. After hearing only good about Ned's, we had to give it a try. Odd location for something so incredibly tasty, down US 1 by Walmart. Its pedigree serves it well though, it's the sister restaurant of Gypsy Cab Company, and that's good news. I went at lunch time with my parents. It was packed. Our server was friendly as heck, and there were several things I could choose. As a vegetarian, that's a big deal. I ordered the Black Bean Sweet Potato Burrito. It was delicious. My dad was happy with his haddock sandwich, and my mom liked her mahi. We skipped dessert this time, but based on the food, I'll have to give it a try in the future. read more

This was another restaurant found through my Yelp app on my smartphone (useful tool it is... something I need to use more often), and a quality place to have dinner. While Ned's is right on US Highway 1, it was actually fairly easy to miss and I had to make a u-turn in order to have dinner at the restaurant. Ned's Southside Kitchen reminded me of a diner, even a rather busy place at 8pm on a Wednesday, with exceptionally friendly service. Ned's is probably a hit with the locals since it's away from the touristy part of St. Augustine. They have a decently varied menu of sandwiches, seafood, including some Floridian themed dishes, but I decided to have the shrimp lo mein, which was on special that night. The portions were filling and the meal was quite tasty. I'm not sure when the next time I'll be visiting St. Augustine, but I'd certainly recommend that others try out Ned's. read more

Our meal at Ned's was just outstanding. I ordered the fish and grits (DO IT! SO GOOD), but I don't eat pork and so asked for the cream sauce sans ham, which they happily obliged...and then came to the table and explained that the collard greens have ham as well, and offered a delicious substitution without hesitation. The grits were killer, the fish was great - my husband and our two dining partners all loved their meals, and the service was top notch. Found this place after searching for restaurants with salads. Probably 14 or so salads. We had the goat cheese and cooked veggies on greens. Excellent! Also had the antipasto. Again, excellent. Large enough to split. Also ordered the side of collard greens. The best! We are from California. If we were local, this would be a regular place to go.
