Went to Ned Devine's tonight for a friend's birthday party. There were pros and cons, but I definitely want to come back here. Cons: The bouncer was kind of a jerk to my friend whose birthday it was. She showed up late because her earlier plans ran late, and he gave her a super hard time about it for some strange reason! It was hard to get to the bar to get drinks. I felt like there was nowhere I could stand to get the bartender's attention. Luckily, some people moved, and I was able to get my drink. The floor in the dance area was SO STICKY. When I say sticky, I mean that I was having a hard time moving without losing my shoes. I'm not sure why it was worse at ND's than anywhere else I've been, but it was pretty bad. Somewhat con: Most of the mixed drinks I had were very alcohol heavy. While I'm glad I got my money's worth, the lack of balance made it hard to drink. Pros: Drinks were relatively cheap. I'm used to being ripped off at about $9-$11 for a mixed drink, so I find $7 to be somewhat reasonable. The ambience was great. It was super chill in the bar/restaurant area, and we could have a conversation without feeling like we were in a regular restaurant. The live band was TOTALLY awesome, did some great songs, and totally rocked. I was disappointed when they took a break between sets. The DJ was great, I just loved the band. My friends and I had a blast singing along and dancing all night. The experience wasn't perfect, but all in all, this is definitely a place I want to visit again. read more

First - I want to make it clear I'm rating Ned Devine's as a Pub. Not as a club or for its nightlife. As a pub, I think this is one of THE best places to eat in the Faneuil Hall Marketplace. Whether you eat outside in the sun in their patio area or inside in their dark, but swanky dining area - you're sure to get a fresh, tasty meal and usually above average service. The waitresses I've had have always been friendly and prompt. All the food I've tried, from appetizers, salads, entrees is above average - especially for "pub fare". The clam chowder is the best I've had in Boston. Better than Legal's even - although, there didn't seem to be a "cup" option, so you get what you pay for. The chowder is the Boston Chowderfest's Hall of Fame for winning 3 different years. Its thick with lots of clam in it. Try it. Can't beat it. read more

I think the only reason I had a somewhat OK time here was that we had a corner table in the upstairs that we kept to ourselves. The bouncers were typical...didn't want to deal with people before or after the night. The short list of highlights are: 1 Star for excellent chicken finger appetizers 1 Star for plenty of urinals in the mens room. (there was at least 10) 1 Star for having Magner's in a giant bottle (if i can get cider I'm happy) 1 Star for excellent table service by a very tiny (relative to the crowd) waitress. -1 Star for 5 dollar cover before 8pm -1 Star for bouncers that sucked, were skeptical of my ID and at last call kicked us out even though we were waiting for the girls to get their coats. The place did have an awesome decor, it looked very nice and there was a decent crowd there. It seems like a really good option if you want to go somewhere, get dinner, get drinks, and dance. Which in Boston in the winter, it's good to have those kind of one stop venues. I also am pretty sure I spotted the host of Time Warp at the bar, but that has yet to be confirmed. Would I go back? I'd prolly never suggest it, but i would deal with it if my friends wanted to go there. read more

Very nice as far as aesthetics go. Very clean... love the hardwood floors, dance area is large, lighting, fixtures, etc., are all nice. However, there are negatives as well. If you get there after like, 10pm, there is ALWAYS a line. And, it isn't even a valid line. It's one of those fake "we want to look cool and make people wait outside in the cold, standing in heels on uneven cobblestone" lines. And, even after you get "inside", there is ANOTHER line to get upstairs to the actual bar. Blah! Cover charge? Really?? Normally, I would not mind paying a cover charge, but only if you are serving like $5 drinks. If you're going to charge me $10 for cover, you sure as hell better not charge me $10 for a drink, but oh well, you do it anyway. Shame, shame (but, in Ned Devine's defense, Whiskey Park is a lot worse -- $15 cover and like $11 for a drink. WTF!). There are not nearly enough bars to serve the hoards of people lunging toward the bartenders. That and the seating area in the front does not accommodate many people either. Overall, it would never be my first choice for a night out, but I've been here for group outings, BYP (Boston Young Professionals) events, etc., and it has been decent. read more

Started my Memorial Day weekend here for lunch. Had my first beer of 2017, and a clam chowder. Clam chowder was not my favorite on the trip, but you would not do wrong to order it. Definitely try it if you're here and in the mood. The person next to me ordered a burger, seems that also would be a great choice. Sat at the inside bar for lunch, a couple days later we returned for drinks at the outside bar. Service was fine, and location was great to watch the street performers do their thing. read more

Get there before 9pm and you'll avoid the outrageous $10 cover. Drinks were upper-average price for the area, but strong. Decent beer selection too. Had a turkey club sandwich to prevent me from getting too intoxicated, price was a bit high and the portion was just averaged size, whatever I didn't go there to eat. Waitress was very attentive and always made sure my beer was full. Live band was a decent cover band for a bar, and after 10 the dance floor really picked up. They played a number of sets and for the most part the songs were good. Overall it was a decent time, I'd go back just not right away. read more

I came here for lunch on one SUnday afternoon stroll through the city. I was going to a Polish dinner party later so didnt want to get anytihng too filling but i got the shepard's pie cuz i loooveee shepards pie! and it was sooo good!!!! its thick and just full of goodness. tho they dont have very much vegetables in it and i was wishing for more. it does come with a side salad though and that was fresh. a nice little place. At nite, its ok. nothing too spetacular if you don;t mind waiting in line. sometimes they have live bands which are fun. read more

I hate Ned Devine's. There aren't many places about which I feel this way. So I arrive at 11pm with my group of 5 on a freezing winter night (think minus 10 degrees), we waited for nearly 2 hours to get in. Once we got in, we thought, "Finally, it can't get much worse." However, it just stared. We paid $10 once at the door, then had to wait another half an hour at the stairs - after waiting outside for 1.5 hours in the cold. We were only going to "celebrate" a friend's birthday, but had about half an hour to spend in an partially filled room of lame frat boys. I was a hair away from just leaving the line and going home that night. And I regret that I didn't. read more

It's a bar in Faneuil Hall, so already I have low expectations when I walked up to the door. Once inside... $10 cover. Really?! Um, ok... fine. I'll admit I was surprised with the size. This place is huge! Downstairs, upstairs bar, and then another bar and dance floor with an area for bands to play... good lord! DJ that was there was decent, and so was the live band.... albeit I like DJ's better when it's not a bad that I'm excited about when I'm wanting to dance. Crowd was OK, nothing amazing, nothing bad... drink prices were typical, and the $10 cover I think was a bit high for what you got. $5 would have been right - and on par with other bars in the area. read more

Ned Devine's Pub is in a great location. There are a lot of places to choose from in Faneuil Hall, and I think Ned Devine's is a solid choice for a good meal and good drinks. It is a pretty big place, with a smaller bar on the first floor and a much larger bar and restaurant area on the second floor. There is plenty of seating and the bar area can accommodate quite a few people. Ned Devine's also has outdoor seating which is really nice in the warm weather. The menu has a variety of options from appetizers, soup/salad, sandwiches and entrees. I have eaten lunch and dinner here and found it to be quite good. As a vegetarian, I did not have any trouble finding items on the menu to order. They have a good selection of beer on tap and equally good selection of spirits for cocktails. I really enjoyed the Cosmo's they make. I have found their Guinness to be quite good as well. I find Ned Devine's to have a relaxed feel, in part due to the decor, but also because I have never felt "rushed" when there for a meal or just drinks. Ned Devine's is connected by a long hallway to Parris, a dance club. It is really fun to wander over after dinner and relax to the music. They have bands and DJ's on the weekends as entertainment. read more

I have been here 3 or 4 times and each time I have gotten a pretty decent meal. They used to have a Guinness stew which was worthy of 5 stars but maybe it was a special because it was no longer on the menu. Dining area is small so a wait is possible. I was brought here by my friend who lives in Boston, along with a few other ladies visiting for the weekend. Someone in our party was having a birthday - so we pretty much skipped the cover charge (got there before 10:30 and were on a bday list) and got in right away. Huge open space and a live band - who were very good and played upbeat fun, sing a long songs all night. Coat check in the corner too once you work your way in for the colder, winter months. Drink prices seemed pretty reasonable for me - and the bathroom line was never too crazy long. In general, I really didn't think it was overly crowded and regardless of me dancing up a storm, I wasn't too hot all night either. The bartender in the corner made a mean mind-eraser too. Get the brownie sundae, it's divine. The brownie was warm and the chocolate sauce was yummy. There was cinnamon ice cream that came with and it really brought out the flavor of the chocolate. I wanted to lick the plate and while there was whipped cream on the plate who the heck cared about that with the delicious ice cream and the warm brownie. I will definitely come back to try the food now that I know there is a wonderful dessert I can get! read more

We went here to escape the crushing tourist hordes around Faneuil Hall and stoke our engines for the rest of the day. The food and drink were standard (if a bit pricey) but the huge benefit of this place was that it was upstairs, away from the crowds, and nice and cool (it was 90 degrees that day and we were dying for A/C and a beer). Ned's is a staple in my Boston Bar repertoire. They have quite a few room options depending on your mood and because of this variety it is also a great place to go with a big group of people...it's the closest you'll ever get to pleasing a whole group (let's face it not everyone is looking for the same thing at a bar). As with ANY bar in Boston the earlier you get there the easier it will be to get in. It is not uncommon to see a line developing outside by 9-9:30. I can't believe previous reviewers have complained about this...the place is obviously popular so get your act together and get there a bit earlier. If the guy wearing a tee shirt that looks like it can fit a toddler and his girlfriend that has a HUGE purse that could fit a toddler in it can get there without there being a long line then you can too!!! With that being said, there is a HUGE range of people you can find at Ned's which will always make for an entertaining night. The bartenders are on point and I've never had a problem with the bouncers. Try being nice to them if you're waiting outside they are doing everything they can to keep the line moving. Don't get mad if they send you away for wearing sneakers (they say NO SNEAKERS right on their web page http://www.neddevinesboston.com/neddevines/info/index.htm ). Once inside you'll have a great time. They get the drinks right, they have good music and like I said before the range of people in there alone will make for an entertaining night. State St. on the Orange/Blue Line! I would consider this a standard tourist trap in the middle of the (outdoor) malls around Quincy Market. I just had a few beers at the bar while I was waiting for my girlfriend's flight to get, and after having walked a little bit of the freedom trail. We may have had a better experience if we had drank at the bar upstairs (as I saw while hitting the head on the way out), but the service was kinda terrible downstairs, the on-tap beer selection was mighty standard, and we'd often get a serious blast of cold from people walking in and out of the market. Recommendation: grab a beer here if it's the first/only thing you see while you're just wasting time waiting for someone with a delayed flight to get in. read more

I was at Ned Devine's last night for a co-workers farewell party, and I am writing this review solely on the bar tender that served us last night. Here are a few key creep lines that were given to us by the bartender on duty at the upstairs bar: " If I wasn't married I'd totally try to have sex with you." " Don't worry, I didn't rufi your drink." Seriously. A bartender making a rufi joke is about the lowest of the low you could go. While the rest of your staff was wonderful and accommodating, I think that management needs to speak with your bartenders about what constitutes as appropriate behavior and conversation with your customers. read more

Yum! My friend and I went last night for a private event, and got to sample what seemed like everything on the appetizer menu, or at least their regular food in bite-sized portions. The teriyaki strips were fantastic, these little pulled-pork things, and delicious cheeseburger sliders. The waitstaff was really nice, and the ladies bathroom was clean (this is always something I check out). My only "complaint" was that my $2.50 diet soda was flat... but the food completely made up for that! I had never been to Ned Devine's before last night, but both of us agreed we would definitely return! read more

For their Halloween party only: A-mazing. Drinks are a little pricey, but the band is always entertaining (even better this year than last), cover charge is cheap (and if you come early you can miss it altogether), and everyone is in such a great mood and dressed up for the occasion. Spotted this year: a gang of Chilean miners, a team from Family Double Dare, the opera-box guys from the Muppets, and the cast of Glee. After about 11 it gets a little sloppy with bottles and cups on the floor, but before then, it's a great place to come with a group. read more

I think Ned Devine's gets criticized way too much. What I don't understand is that if it so many people dislike it, then why is it always so packed?! Don't get me wrong- I hate waiting in a line just as much as anyone else. In fact, I think it's rediculous that the line has two stages and waiting outside in the cold isn't fun. Once inside, though, it's always great. Plenty of room to hang out, different bar areas, and the cover band is always better than most others around. It is definitely loud, but with 3 rooms there are always different places to go with friends, etc. In my experience, not difficult to get a drink either. It's never excessively hot inside like many other places. I can honestly say that I've had the some of the most fun ever at a bar when I was at Ned's. Drinks aren't much more expensive than other places and a $10 cover isn't totally off the charts if you're seeing a good band and plan to spend most of the night there. If you're going to bounce around to different places and get to Ned's at 11:30 or 12, it's a little bit harder to do. I'll go any time. read more

*Rating it as a nightclub* Came here last Sat night with my sorority sisters for a bachlorette party. Live band was awesome! Played a bunch of cover songs from the 80's to today. First room was chill with a bar and seats and music. Mostly people standing around talking. Second room had a DJ and played dance tunes. Third room was the live band which turned into a DJ at 11pm. Drinks were strong, bathrooms were clean, and there was alot of room to dance and move around but still a lot of people there. One of the only bars/clubs I'm totally ok with paying a cover charge on because entrance guarantees you a good time. The cover is $10, but the vodka tonics are only about $7, and beet is closer to $5. This place is huge! It's basically 4 bars of you count the downstairs and every room has a different feel. There's really something for everybody! You have the chill bar at the front, the more hoppin bar in the middle playing music from my frat party days, and the back room - the best room - has a live cover band. Every band I've seen is good! They have a coat check at the back room for $3. If you get there after 11 on a weekend, there will be a line to get into the club I've also been here for dinner before. Waited for service a long time around 2:30 - couldn't decide if it was a shift swap or an overworked waitress. We are a pretty easy table, not super needy - only got checked on a couple times but that was fine. Based on service I'd give it 3 stars (okay but not exceptional), based on food - FIVE STARS. My girls and I each order different things and share and all three entrees were phenomenal. Chowder fries were SO good - fries seasoned well and chowder was great on top. Crab cakes were very well done. Lobster roll was great - lettuce mix on toasted bread with meaty chunks of lobster, great ratios of bread, lettuce, and lobster. read more

When I walked into Ned Devine's, I immediately turned to my friend and asked why I hadn't come here before. She politely told me that that wasn't my problem since she'd asked multiple times and I hadn't believed that it was a fun place! As mentioned before, drinks are pricey and the bouncers a little cranky, but for somewhere to go for a few drinks and dancing, it's really a good deal. One bizarre thing though -- if deciding to venture there before it gets super warm out but after the standard freezehole of Boston has weakened, don't bother bringing a coat because they don't have coat checks then. As a bar this place is pretty average, lines out the door, and then ANOTHER line inside after the $10 cover. But I'm here to talk about the food. I've eaten inside and out on the small patio a few times now, and have always been satisfied with the menu. For me, the menu is perfect on a brisk Boston afternoon. They make a great mac and cheese, and there chowder is one of the best I've had in the city. Also, they do the sweet potato fries just the way I like them. Whenever I go back now, I always get the burger and a Newcastle. Nothing fancy, but it's always cooked just right. I'm a stickler for a good bun, and they have a pretty decent "fresh baked " varietal. Solid burger, good daytime atmosphere inside. And that's how our evening began, as we obtained directions to this bar, setting smack in tourist-central, Quincy Market. Waiting for our other friends to arrive, two friends and I sat nursing drinks in the patio at the Ames Plow Tavern. After some time with enjoyable conversation, we proceeded to pay $10 (!) cover at Ned Devine's. That was my first sticker shock of the evening. Ok, the next surprise revealed itself on the dance floor. It was too sticky from alcohol to move. Like other Yelpers, I felt that I was in danger of losing my shoes from the dance floor's strong adhesive powers. That wasn't too fun. ND's staff needs to do something about their floor! Otherwise, my friends and I had a good time. Their DJ wasn't great, though. It was a mix of top 40 dance music, that's true. But we came to a collective consensus of "eh, we don't need to travel this far next time for a night out." read more

Came here on a Saturday night around 8. There weren't any seats at the bar so my friends and I ordered some drinks and waited for some seats to open up. Once we sat down, we realized it was a huge mistake. The bartenders were splashing alcohol all over the place. They were rushing to pour beers and shots, handing them over the counter and spilling them all over everyone. We decided to get up and stand for the rest of the night. I don't know if it was just the night I went but this place looked like something from Jersey Shore. Guys dressed in way too tight shirts thinking they're hot, hair all gelled up and ogling anything that walked by. Girls wearing dresses that were obviously 2 sizes too small and stumbling around. The bathrooms were a horror show! There were beer bottles and cups in every stall. I was washing my hands and witnessed a fight -- one girl throwing her heel at another. It was a good show! There are better places to spend your time and money in Faneuil Hall. read more

I like Ned's. I enjoy how big it is, and that there are 2 other rooms you can escape to when you want to cool down from the big sweaty mess of a dancefloor. The bartenders are fairly adequate. They use lighter fluid in most vodka mixed drinks (Rubinoff), unless you catch them in the act and say "NO NO NO!!!! GREY GOOSE I'LL PAY THE EXTRA BUCK OR TWO". Bouncers are hilarious and always come up to dance in front of me if my friend slips away to the bathroom. There's one named Seven who has a braided beard (or had) and he was super accomodating to my friend in a wheelchair (free cover because of this, he wheeled her & us up and got us in VIP style). Deduct a star for one of the waitresses we had recently for a friend's birthday in July. She was pretty rude. Other than that, decently priced booze for Boston (you must yell at the bartenders if you want decent vodka though), cover bands are fun, big venue with plenty of room to escape, and if you want to avoid the $10 cover, get there before or at 9. :) read more

First yelp review, but this one is worth it. I was going to the bathroom in a stall and one of the workers there named Pat walked in on me. First off, who walks in on someone in the bathroom? This bar is kind of sketchy solely because of that. Second, they kicked me out because I was allegedly doing drugs. I'm not naive, I know people do that in the stalls. If they thought I was and kicked me out, then that's on them. They can "refuse service to anyone" as they say, and I understand that. But the person kicking me out, Pat, wouldn't even tell me what I allegedly did wrong, I thought I was kicked out for having a beer in my hand as I was going to the bathroom. I tried to talk to the guy that kicked me out, Pat, while saying I would leave the premises after, but he wouldn't come down. All I wanted to do was let him know he made a mistake so it wouldn't happen again in the future, but he would not come down to talk to me. It wasn't busy, he had no excuse to not talk to me, he just chose not to. I spent five minutes talking to the manager trying to express me point and talk to the guy upstairs Pat, but to no avail. The fact that this bar kicks in doors in the bathroom and takes you out with explanation is reprehensible. read more

We were there Sunday July 11th for brunch. We were one of the first tables to sit and I ordered eggs over easy. The food came out eggs well-done. I asked the server if I could get the eggs fixed and she told me that they were very busy, it would go to the back of the line and would take too long to get back. We requested a manager. After no one came to the table we politely asked four times if we could talk with a manager. We waited over 30 minutes and no manager ever came out. We expressed our concerns to multiple staff and everyone shrugged us off. We were polite and totally understand getting an order wrong. What we really could not understand is why no one at the restaurant cared and a manager never came to talk with us. I've never written a poor review but this was such poor service. We wrote a note on the back of our check but I assume that went unread as well. read more

The absolute BEST clam chowder I've ever had! Little if any potatoes and clams that literally melted in my mouth!

First...The server circled a 25% tip on our check. When he looked at the check and saw it was 22% tip, he became verbally and visibly irate.. He threatened to throw our food at us and we walked out to avoid further issue.. As we walked away, he noticed that he was chasing us. He confronted us and spit on my girlfriends father after we told him to please leave. He then attempted to punch him and the get in the face of my girlfriend who was trying to stop him. We walked back to the restaurant as he chased us and tried to speak to management who didn't care at all about the actions of the server. They actually looked at us like we were lying and waved us off. Would NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE. DO NOT GO HERE UNLESS YOU ENOJOY BEING SPIT ON and assaulted. read more
