To-go cup on the commuter rail

So, you gotta adjust your expectations for what this place is: a bar in a train station. It's small, limited and expensive for what it is. My coworker and I came here to grab a bite before we caught our train. We started with the chips & salsa, which were terrible to be honest; watery salsa and cardboard-flavored chips. However, my caesar salad wrap was much better! It was small but had good caesar flavor. I appreciate the cape cod chips it was served with. The BEST part of this place? They serve booze in to-go cups so you can take it on the train with you!! I probably won't eat here again, but I will definitely grab to-go drinks again for my train ride home :)

Waiting for a connecting train we decided to try the small Tavern in the Square sit down restaurant inside South Station. The barkeep was very nice, very busy and very efficient. Out of their tiny kitchen, one young woman was quickly pushing out food orders while the barkeep made sure everyone was happy. We were in and out in less than an hour. The food was good, the drinks strong. A bit pricey, but very convenient and quick for a sit down spot. They have take-away too.

Came here while waiting for my train. Surrounded by places serving crêpes and McDonalds, I was pleased to find this mini bar situated next to the board with train times. For a train station tavern, I found it to be a overall decent experience. Sipping a seasonal Samuel Adams draft, the Winter Olympics on the TV and wooden seating really created a cool winter feel. I was disappointed to find that most of the drinks I was looking to try on the seasonal menu weren't available. Combined with the pricy food options ($13 for nachos), beers and game watching is probably the way to go. For a spot in the train station to kill time, probably your best option.

If you find yourself feeling hungry and waiting for the commuter train in South Station, this is a great place where to enjoy a quick meal and a beer on tap. We had minimal wait time before our seating, and our waitress was super nice and efficient. They did their best to create a nice little oasis in the middle of a transportation center, and the food was generously portioned and the beer was very cold and sudsy. I had their clam chowder and my girlfriend had their beef chili, both were just right in a cold afternoon after returning from a trip in the Caribbean.

I apologize for the crummy angle, but I couldn't find a menu online, so here is the food menu as of 2/21/2014.

Really nice layout in South Station, they have an impressive 32 beers on tap, and an attentive staff. Their menu is a limited version of their regular restaurant menus, which was perfect for lunch with sandwiches and salads. Ate lunch here so didn't get to enjoy any of those beers beckoning me (office is very close, too risky) ;-) I had the Monterrey chicken sandwich, which was solid, but not very flavorful. I felt it could use some cheese. A little more expensive than what I remember at their other locations, but a good addition to South Station.

Quick! A crowded mini bar with good options for someone waiting for their next bus or train. I had the chicken quesadilla that was pretty good I couldn't really see the shredded chicken it was kind a mush. The clam chowder wasn't good for it to be in Boston. The waitress who was very nice offered me the tomato soup which was soooo salty. The wings were good crunchy and perfectly seasoned.

We got a pretty big spread of food (honey bbq tenders, nachos, lobster roll, steak and cheese wontons, and margarita pizza). All of it was very average. The flavors were very average and the quality of the food was nothing special. Wish it was more Seaport quality. It's a bummer since not a single plate was piping hot when it got to our table. Everything was either room temperate or cold. Still a great spot to hang out in the sun outside!

It's like someone mashed together an amusement park, a zoo, and a full-blown circus, then replaced the cotton candy with alcohol and the safety rails with chaos. Every floor felt like a different dimension--one minute you're vibing, the next you're dodging a human traffic jam like it's bumper cars. But the real main event? Colleen. First floor. Absolute legend. Watching her work was like witnessing a headliner performance before the headliner. She wasn't bartending--she was conducting a symphony of pure mayhem. Drinks flying out of her hands like fireworks, orders remembered with supernatural precision, cracking jokes, keeping the energy electric--it was like if a ringmaster, a magician, and a quarterback all fused into one person behind the bar. I showed up stone-cold sober. Like, "responsible adult grabbing a pre-show drink" sober. What happened next was less of a night out and more of a controlled demolition. Somewhere between Colleen's perfectly poured chaos and the multi-floor madness, time stopped making sense. I'm pretty sure I blacked out on one floor and woke up on another like I was fast-traveling in a video game. At one point I may have been part of the circus. Not watching it--part of it. By the time I left, "walking" was no longer an option. I exited the building in a full crawl, like I had just survived a natural disaster. Limbs questionable, dignity gone, spirit intact. 10/10. No notes. Would absolutely risk it all again.

For appetizers, we usually always get the wings. They're smoked and then I believe flash fried. Always tasty and tender. The fried pickles are great, too. The beer list is huge, which is great if you like choices, or terrible if you're the kind of person who panics when offered more than two options. All in all, I liked it. Good atmosphere, great broccoli, and enough on the menu that I'd come back. Might even pretend it was my idea.

Jake n JOES was perfect to host this at because it is a New England sports bar with plenty of TVs, a perfect game day menu, and a lively atmosphere to enjoy a game with sports decor surrounding. I'm glad they had this Celtics collab. The event was fun, they had free merch at a table handed out by Celtics cheerleaders and Lucky the Leprechaun. We got there towards the end but scored some merch. We did wait for a table since it was a full house for this, but luckily we scored one with a TV in view. My friends and I got dinner, opted out of drinks this round. I got the chicken quesadilla with a side of spanish rice. The quesadilla was pretty good, but the rice was a little undercooked. They also charged extra for a side of sauce which has never happened before so that was a bummer. I wouldn't have got one if I'd known. Oh well. We then split the cookie sundae which was yummy. Cookie was undercooked and a little raw but it was okay. Still tasted okay, food is always good but nothing to write home about. I like it though. The atmosphere and the shared energy of Boston sports fans being able to come together and enjoy a game makes up for the food being above average. I'll still come back and enjoy a game here.
