Six of us came here after a long day at the hospital. Small place with valet parking. Wine list does not have vintage years so you don't know what you are actually are selecting. Bartender needs to go back to bartending school to learn how to make a properly mixed drink. The menu prices reflect the Nautical Mile tourist trap area. Breadbasket: banana bread was leaden and rolls past their prime. The flatbread is delicious. Appetizers: $12.95 Baked clams were basically shells with breading. Crab cakes needed seasoning let alone a bit more crab. Oysters were decent and the mussels needed better sauce. Mains: All entrees come with salads. 2lb Lobsters were excellent and cooked perfectly but very pricey at $65. The wholesale price is about $8-9lb - Complete ripoff especially when all you get is the lobster and a small salad. Salmon tasted frozen. A nice size portion of Tuna (at $38) was seared to perfection but lacked the promised Asian flavors. Shrimp were pedestrian. Sauce with the Bronzino was very good. Sides: the fries and onion ring medley was small and a bit greasy. Very, very small vegetable sides. The $9 spinach needed spice and the $9 charred cauliflower had burnt pieces and undercooked pieces. Wholesale heads of spinach and cauliflower are barely about $2 each and you basically get about 25 cents worth of produce for almost $10. Desserts were ok Servers were excellent and their efforts raised my rating to 3 stars. They still charge $3.50 for a seltzer. read more

First of all the parking lot is much too small and the parking is difficult. The service is good. There is no ambience to comment about and the restaurant was noisy. As an appetizer, I had crab bisque soup, which filled only half the bowl and was too thick. My main course was halibut, which was OK, but the portion was too small. There was a side dish for the table, some potatoes, but they were terrible, dry and tasteless. For dessert. I had a lava cake, but it was really just a chocolate cake with some ice cream on top, I'm not sure how this place is for lobsters ; maybe it's better, but I won't go here again. read more

He was very attentive, knowledgeable, professional and provided us with excellent recommendations when asked. They offer a good selection of menu items along with specials of the day. We shared the shrimp cocktails and squash soup to start...delectable! I had the Halibut dressed with a creamy wine buttery garlic sauce accompanied by sliced mushrooms and lobster meat...yummy! We ended with the mud pie and apple pie a la mode for desert, both are must haves if you visit. We enjoyed a fine meal, well prepared and served, in a charming, intimate setting, fairly priced. If you go to Freeport to eat seafood, locals often recommend going to Nautilus Cafe. I do not that recommend the soups, since they aren't anything special. However, the seafood is really great, especially the lobster and baked clams. The quality of the lobsters they have has never let me down. The fried soft-shelled crab is also very fresh and fried well with faint seasoning. It is savory, but does not dominate the natural taste of the crab. The scallops do not contain any chemicals, and is just cooked fresh. I sprinkled a little bit of pepper onto it and it tasted delicious. The mussels are very juicy. Their baked clams are chopped and made with various other ingredients like bread crumbs and herbs, and even a hint of cheese. The entrees come with either a soup or a salad. The raw Little Meck Clams are also very fresh and clean. Not only is the seafood good, but the bread platter they give you before the meal is baked very well. The bread is a five-star restaurant quality . It's hot, just like freshly baked bread. The top row of bread in the photo was all finished by me. I'm always looking for lunch specials when I'm out of the office during the week. I found such a deal last Monday at the Nautilus Cafe on the Nautical Mile in Freeport. The Nautilus is the best restaurant on the mile, hands down, and they offer a 22USD Prix-Fix lunch which includes a starter, a main and a desert. I started with the Mussels Marinara, followed by a Shrimp & Crabmeat Roll with French Fries and Oreo Ice Cream. Michael had the soup of the day (New England Clam Chowder), Blackened Salmon with Tomato-Avocado Salsa and Chocolate Mousse Cake. Mike's platter also came with a side of Mashed Potatoes and Broccoli. Let's not forget the basket of gratis Banana Bread! It was as good as everyone said it was in prior reviews! Every dish was outstanding! We're not talking small portions either, these dishes were appropriately sized. The crabmeat in my sandwich was the real deal, mixed with medium shrimp and mayonnaise on a buttered and toasted roll. Mike's salmon was moist and well seasoned, and his soup was creamy and clammy. (his words - not mine - that, when translated means, full of clams). We got there early and it was filled to capacity when we left. Service was a tad slow, but neither of us minded very much because the waiter, hostess and busser were all very sweet. The bread basket consist of banana bread and everything crusted crackers. The 22.00 Prix-Fixe lunch was a great deal. Choice of 3 appetizers (mussels in saffron butter, chilled asparagus, soup), 3 main courses (Parmesan Crust Bronzino, Chipotle Lime Glaze Salmon, Prime Rib) and 2 of dessert (Cheesecake or Oreo ice cream). Portions were large and it comes with a shareable sides (mash potatoes and vegetables.) We ordered some oysters and they were full of sand which was disappointing. I'm a little embarrassed to say, but for years I thought the Nautilus Cafe was a diner. Boy was I surprised the day my wife and I realized that it was indeed an excellent seafood restaurant. The Nautilus doesn't serve "fast seafood" or have loud music like some of the more well known restaurants on the canal, but rather it's just plain old good food with great service from an attentive staff. Its about time!!! Freeports nautical mile, if you read some of my reviews has a terrible track record. Over-rated, over priced in many cases, and a huge disappointment...until today! Nautilus is by far the best place on the Nautical Mile. With only 15 tables, and an chef who IS the owner, you get quality with every portion of your meal. The food was excellent, ambiance is nice and the drinks were perfect! They also have great specials, the person I was with got a lunch meal that included fried oysters with wasabi mayo (and they were fresh oysters, not the frozen ones), a lobster tail with skirt steak, broccoli and mashed potatoes and a nice sized expresso cheescake dessert for 20 bucks!!! Portions were shockingly sized, and best part was everything was cooked and prepared perfectly. I got crabcakes and coconut shrimp and both were excellent. Crab cakes were very fresh and although not the best i've had, no complaints here. The shrimp were the size of a medium lobster tail and were delicious. I can't wait to go back, seriously! (I don't give Four stars lightly!) FYI they also have half priced lobsters on Mondays and a great meal deal on Wed or Thurs...call to check and above all make sure you get a reservation as the place is very cozy. read more

Went here for dinner on 9/28 with my mom. We had a 7pm reservation and were seated right away when we got there at around 6:50. We had a lovely view of the water, seated right at a window. The staff was very friendly and our waiter was very attentive the whole night. I got crab cakes for my appetizer, and they were great-not too breaded. Mom enjoyed baked clams. For dinner I had the strip steak. It was cooked just as I liked it. My mom had the prime rib which was delicious. I also had margaritas which were great. For dessert, we split the apple crumb pie and it was the perfect way to end. The downside is the place is quite small so it can get a little crowded and noisy, but it didn't bother us at all. Definitely make a reservation. The food is delicious, well worth the price. Can't wait to go back. read more

My fiancé and I decided to dine at The Nautilus Cafe last night. We've been here several times over the last few years and the menu never changes. Since this is restaurant week for the Nautical mile, we decided to order off of that menu. It was a $26 prix fixe for 3 courses. I ordered the fried oysters for my appetizer and the lobster tail and crab cake for my entree. The oysters were good but my entree could have been better. They actually charged a $2 supplement for this choice. The lobster tail was very tiny and had a weird taste and the "Maryland crab cake tasted as if it had been frozen. My fiancé ordered the stuffed baked clams and the pistachio encrusted halibut. He enjoyed his food. The mango salsa that came with his entree was really good. I was disappointed because their regular menu is outstanding. The service was good. The ambience in this restaurant is terrible. They should look into remodeling the place. The lights are too bright and the chairs are too close together. It's either that or they have too many tables. read more

My family came to the Nautilus Cafe Saturday afternoon to have a meal before the Christmas Tree Lighting on the Nautical Mile. We all ordered off the Price Fixe Luncheon menu. Our meals were all delicious! We had lobster ravioli, fish with crab topping, & prime rib. This is the best seafood restaurant in the world - the food is incredible, the portions are generous, and the service is excellent. The food comes in good time and is well prepared -- so amazingly delicious, you just savor the first bite. We have been eating here over 30 years, yet still "qvell" over the first bite of our entree. Summer time you really need a reservation, but you can ask about the specials when doing so, and we have asked to reserve a portion just in case. This is like going to a great dinner with family serving -- they are such a warm and friendly staff and they are very proud of the high quality of food. No other seafood restaurant gives such generous portions, and the meatier fish (like swordfish) are thick, like a good filet mignon. So juicy and served with garlic butter! You can get most fish served in different ways, if you prefer. They also serve meat and salad dishes, but we go there for the fish. And one more thing -- home made banana bread to die for . . . as well as other unique breads. . .all complimentary while you await your amazing main course. We have celebrated here with out of town family and they always were impressed (thanks Nautilus Cafe!). The restaurant is beautiful, built like a ship, and has valet parking, so it's a lovely experience all around. Definitely the best seafood restaurant anywhere! read more

We just had a fantastic meal here. My wife and I don't dine inside and we were made to feel at home inside their outdoor dining tent. They provided more than enough heaters that we were able to dine without coats on. The service was fantastic as well as the food. At the end of the meal they insisted we order dessert and the whole wait staff came out to sing happy birthday to me. They also didn't charge for the dessert. I would rate this restaurant a 3.5 if I could. This was my first time on the Nautical Mile and my first time at Nautilus Cafe. We started with a really delicious jumbo coconut shrimp which came with a really tasty Thai sauce. Our entrees weren't bad neither. The lobster roll could have had a bit more flavor but it was still satisfying. The marinated skirt steak was very good and the caramelized onions on top of it were a nice touch. The lobster tail itself wasn't too flavorful, but again, not too bad. I would definitely return if I were on the Mile again looking for something to eat. read more

This was my first time here, and I was impressed! Looking forward to returning soon. My friend got reservation for the lunch time on a Saturday. They have an excellent prefix menu for lunch ($23.95) if I am not wrong. For this deal, you get to have an appetizer (soup or salads are also part of the deal), a main course and dessert! That's a steal! We opted for Appetizers: lobster bisque and fried oysters, which were tasty and right portioned. Main courses: Cedar planked Atlantic salmon, to me likeness, it needed a bit of more salt... however, the flavor was there. My friend got a trout dish and was happy with it. Dessert: Carrot cake and chocolate mouse: They were fresh and full of flavor! I wished I had more space in my tummy to re-order the chocolate mouse Drinks: We opted for draft beers, but they do have a full bar service! Service was impeccable and attentive at all times.
