Really fantastic. Came in 5:15ish on a Sunday for our Anniversary and it was wonderful. Our server was Christine and she was perfect, as was the little fellow who kept our water glasses filled and cleared the plates. A+ for service. Super attentive without being pretentious. The food was awesome. The bread basket is too good. Banana bread with crispy edges. Yes please. The calamari app was good though if you don't like sauce, ask for it on the side because it comes on top. Didn't bother me but Picky P was sad. The calamari could have been a touch crisper BUT it was incredibly tender so I forgave it. I got the lobster roll and it is a terrifically presented platter. The roll was jammed packed with lobster and the roll was toasty and warm. It was served with shoestring fries (yum), lightly dressed greens and beautiful tomatoes. My husband ordered off the restaurant week menu because he wanted the short ribs. The meat was TENDER. And the accompanying fried onions were perfect. The Caesar salad was fine- no complaints. We took the dessert to go because I made an apple pie today. I had checked the Anniversary box (6 years, whew) in the OpenTable App and Christine honored it with the sweetest little notion. I'll let it be a surprise to anyone else but it was an adorable little surprise. 100% would return and I'm glad we live around the corner. read more

Went for dinner for our anniversary. I made the reservation on open table. The day before, I received a call from the restaurant confirming the reservation. We arrived and were seated by a window with a view of all of the charter boats. We started with lobster bisque and caesar salad. My parents said the bisque was delicious. The salad was just ok. Chopped romaine with Parmesan and caesar dressing that tasted like it came out of a bottle. For main courses, we got the broiled seafood combo and pepita crusted branzino. The combo could be made in many styles. Scampi, oreganata , blackened and just broiled. We chose oreganata. It was delicious. It came with a small piece of sole, 2 large shrimp and 5 large scallops. Everything was seasoned and cooked perfectly. The portion was on the smaller side but was enough for dinner with no leftovers. The branzino was delicious. Very moist and flaky. The sauce was delicious and the crust had a nice crunch. Neither of the dishes came with anything additional so we ordered the creamed spinach and burnt broccoli. The spinach was good but not super hot. Looked like it has been portioned and warmed up. The broccoli was not burnt enough and not seasoned too much. For dessert, we ordered the fresh strawberries with home made whipped cream and the warm apple crumb. They both came with a candle and happy anniversary was sung. The whipped cream was delicious. The apple crumb was very good. It was a nice ending to the evening. Our waited was excellent. Very personable and a good sense of humor. Definitely one of the best restaurants on the nautical mile. My friends and I made reservations for dinner last night , Sunday March 12th , for dinner at the Nautilus Cafe as the prix-fixe menu looked really interesting. It far surpassed our expectations. The food was fabulous, staff excellent and I recommended them to friends already this morning !! I actually finished everything , but my carrot cake, which was delicious, because I didn't leave anything else unfinished. I gave them five stars in 2020 but things have gone downhill, sadly. The ambience is lovely- I like that it feels formal without being stuffy. But, food was not good this time and service was friendly but lacking. EXCEPT for the little guy bringing bread, filling drinks and clearing tables. I said this in my last review and I'll say the same for this time- THAT guy hustled. All the tips should go to him. He supported every table in that dining room while 3 servers failed to do so. Give that young man a raise. On to food. The bread basket was the best thing we ate. We ordered off of the prix fixe menu since it actually had different and more options than the regular menu, which is pretty small. Got mussels in broth for my appetizer- the mussels were gritty and the broth had zero salt content and tasted very acidic and tannic, almost like they used white wine and didn't cook it out. J got some sort of crusted shrimp as his app and they were rubbery. It came with an "aioli" that was clearly flavored mayo from the store. For my entree, I got "jumbo lump" stuffed shrimp. I'm from Maryland. I know jumbo lump. This was real crab but it was teeny weeny crab shreds. The crab mix was tasty though, thankfully, because the shrimp were tasteless and tough. It came with an unidentifiable sauce on the side, which wasn't very flavorful either. J got the prime rib. This was second in line to the bread basket. It was a generous portion and very very tender. It came with a "horseradish cream" that was again, a very heavy mayo-based pre-made concoction. The accompanying sides were pitiful. PLAIN steamed broccoli and undercooked baby potatoes. I have a feeling this restaurant is catering to an older clientele because there's no other reason to provide food without even a hint of seasoning. PLAIN STEAMED BROCCOLI. No salt, pepper, a splash of lemon, nothing. Dessert was okay but clearly not made in-house. The key lime "pie" was too sweet and a funny texture. The chocolate mousse cake was fine. Served with out-of-season strawberries. Service was also lacking this go-round which is surprising because they weren't especially busy and there were 3 servers in this small dining room. We timed it- it took 18 minutes for our server to reappear to ask for our dessert order after our plates were cleared. Unacceptable considering some man, who is not a server, was standing there observing the dining room, presumably directing things. We were literally sitting at a cleared table for nearly 20 minutes. Sadly, this was my 4th and last time; we won't be returning. read more

Came here on an early Tuesday afternoon after shopping for fresh seafood up the road. When we entered their were no other patrons inside. Needless to say service was super attentive. Our waiter even joked that they shut the dining room down for us. It was such a lovely and intimate experience. They offered a lovely pre fixed menu but we opted for a special and dinner entree. I started with the chopped little neck clams. I am a super clam snob but i must say these are now in my top five i have ever tried. The breading was moist and the clams were not chewy but a perfect texture. My honey had the raw oysters which were also delicious. For my entree i chose the twin African lobster tails. Amazingly fresh and tender! They were perfectly seasoned. My honey had the lobster shrimp and crab meat cocktail which was also fresh and delicious. The owner offered us a dessert on the house which I thought was a very nice gesture. We were so full by this time i just chose the strawberries and cream which was so yummy i wish i could have eaten the whole thing. Everything down to our cappuccinos was amazing. Went for Long Island Restaurant Week. Was looking forward to it. However it was a let down. The food was good not the best. The service started off great then it went down hill. The waiter went MIA on us and was not attentive. I made my reservation through OpenTable and the hostess did not verify my reservation so when I tried to leave me review on that site I was unable to. So here I am. Fried oysters were okay. Don't recommend. I got the chicken it was very tasty. The dessert was fine Oreo ice cream. Went here for dinner on 9/28 with my mom. We had a 7pm reservation and were seated right away when we got there at around 6:50. We had a lovely view of the water, seated right at a window. The staff was very friendly and our waiter was very attentive the whole night. I got crab cakes for my appetizer, and they were great-not too breaded. Mom enjoyed baked clams. For dinner I had the strip steak. It was cooked just as I liked it. My mom had the prime rib which was delicious. I also had margaritas which were great. For dessert, we split the apple crumb pie and it was the perfect way to end. The downside is the place is quite small so it can get a little crowded and noisy, but it didn't bother us at all. Definitely make a reservation. The food is delicious, well worth the price. Can't wait to go back. read more

We had a fabulous lunch for my wife's birthday today at the Nautilis café in Freeport. The food and service were excellent. The Chef is highly skilled because the seafood was cooked perfectly and the delicious apple crumb cake ala mode dessert was obviously homemade and served with fresh whipped cream. My only suggestion to the owner would be to include a little vegetable and potato with entrées especially if you're buying $60 twin lobster tails and a broiled seafood platter. read more

The food was good but the prices high for the portion and the service was pretty slow. We even got thirsty waiting for water refills. Beware sharing charge per the menu. Friday night, 3 people, had a reservation. The fried calamari special was good. My friend had that as her meal. I had the Panko Crusted Bronzini. It was delicious. Sides cost extra so the plate looked empty with just the fish portion on it. Good thing it at least came with salad and I stole some of my friend's calamari. Other friend ordered the skirt steak. She ordered medium and it was way too rare. She sent it back for more cooking and it stilk cane back too pink but she dealt with it. Had onions on top, which she did not like. This plate also looked sad with just meat on it. (Correction - meat covered in grilled onions.) This also came with a salad but my friend does not like salads so she ate a lot of bread. Didn't hate the place but wouldn't come back and wouldn't recommend to friends or family. Next time will go somewhere with at least a little more for your money and outdoor seating. read more

I went here once because my mom was visiting me and it adopted outdoor seating relatively quick since Long Island reopened. They set up a nice socially distanced outdoor space with a tent. It's seemed to meet all the standards of safe COVID operation. With that said... the food. The food wasn't BAD. But it wasn't great either and the kicker is that it's kinda pricey. My mom had the salmon for like $30 and it was literally just a piece of salmon. Not even a piece of broccoli on the side. That was unexpected. I had the lobster roll. The Nautilus seafood restaurant in Freeport NY is one of the last great restaurants on Long Island.. Walking into a charming one hundred year old Victorian home and hearing piano music on speakers felt regal. Its a restaurant that will make you want to dress for dinner.. Polished silverware, white tablecloths and a pretty setting across from Woodcleft Canal seems like a mini vacation, and the service is impeccable. I have had everything at least one time on this menu except the raw shellfish. I did have the Oysters Rockefeller and Chef/owner Brian had them prepared exactly as they should, even using Pernod. By far, the Sole meunière is a dish that belongs in books.. it actually was once. In Julia Childs autobiography.. And even though I've never tried Julias, I think Brian makes it the best.
