Been going here for many years and it's always good. Old school atmosphere and classic wait staff, white shirts and ties all around, fast and efficient service. The food was good, not great. I had Cod with clams and shrimp, tiny shrimp, but very tasty. My wife had the halibut with a lobster sauce, but we could barely find any lobster, very bland. Always a good experience at Nautilus Cafe. This time, I had the lunch price fix ($24.95). I got the chopped baked clams as my appetizer and the swiss mushroom burger as my entree. The baked clams were very good, with the clam chopped and mixed into the bread crumb. Well seasoned. The burger was moist and juicy, cooked to the correct temperature. The bacon, mushrooms, and swiss all tasted good together. Fries were great too! Very good option in terms of affordability, quality, and location. Friendly servers every time also. This is a restaurant with a view of the water. I recently treated a friend of mine to a birthday lunch here. She had the prix fixe for $28.95: shrimp and corn chowder, grilled salmon with lobster sauce, and carrot cake. She ate all her plates clean. I ordered the lunch special: sautéed soft shell crabs, a la carte. They were unbelievably fresh; but believe it or not, the roasted root vegetables were my favorite part of the meal. The vegetables were a family-style side dish that the two of us shared. They came with our order and were seasoned with parsley, rosemary, olive oil and salt. I could not eat enough of them. The Aperol Spritz was the perfect cocktail to go with my meal. It nicely counteracted the richness of the soft shell crabs. My friend had a glass of soda, which was strongly bubbly. The skirt steak was fine. But this is a seafood restaurant. That should mean something, right? Filet of Sole with butter and lemon? First, no sauce. Ok, but...well, no flavor. No butter taste. An accompanying piece of lemon I squeezed (squoze?) myself. But still... not only did it taste like reheated pieces of frozen fish, it tasted...unpleasant. Stopped in from out of town and was lucky enough to arrive on the lobster special night. A whole two pound lobster, salad and bread basket for $50. I'd never had a whole lobster but I was in for a treat. They make it easier for newbies by serving it open and anything beyond that can be solved by a quick google. There were locals that sat at the bar (usually a sign a place is good) and friendly staff. Small quaint place you probably need a reservation for but I got lucky tonight! read more

I dined here on Saturday date night and received top notch service from beginning to end. Food wise, I really loved my Cesar salad and calamari. Entre wise, I felt the panko crusted bronzino fish could have packed just a bit more flavor. With that said, I really enjoyed the mango salsa and the sauce that was served with it. My gf ordered the chicken parm, which was quite a hefty person. While generous in size, I agreed with her when she mentioned it was a bit on the bland side. We had an old gift certificate, they honored it and were extremely kind to do so. The waiter Ramon was top notch and a great help with the gift certificate. During restaurant week they had a deal we took advantage of, an appetizer, dinner and dessert for $37 each. We ordered the fried oysters, baked clams, prime rib and stuffed flounder. We used to frequent this restaurant and then life got in the way and we finally made it back tonight. The food and service were as good as we recalled. While the menu is not large every single item is mouth watering appealing. Listen carefully to the specials. They are always excellent. Start with baked clams or calamari with sweet chili sauce. By the way the Caesar salad is excellent. My difficult choice tonight was between the Sautéed Soft Shell Crabs and blackened Swordfish. Since Soft Shell Crabs are seasonal I thought that was the way to go. No mistake here. They were absolutely outstanding. Add a side of Burnt Broccoli and sauteed spinach and you are having a great meal. Salmon, Swordfish and Halibut (with lobster on top) are always standouts at this restaurant. Most servers and the bartender have been here for many years and always have a "welcome back" smile. Consistently great. Full bar. Valet parking. The valet has also been there for many years. We were seated immediately and chose a bottle of Chianti to start the festivities. We started with an order of Baked Clams and Calamari...both great but Calamari order was small. They made up for it with the entrees: Jumbo Shrimp Oreganata was delish and prepared perfecto, Strip Steak disappeared quickly so I have to believe it also was great... Pepita Crusted Bronzini Looked great and tasted better. Two orders of Crusted Rare Tuna was terrific...Yum! My special Sword Fish was simply prepared and was awesome! First time here and happy to be here in person dining inside like old times. The establishment was rather small although it did have a bar area and about 8 to 10 tables inside. I don't know what the capacity seating is outside but when we were there no one was outside because it was late and cooler. The wait staff was very knowledgeable and attentive. I ordered the chowder and a fish special of the day. I can't remember the name, but it was delicious. My friend ordered the Chilean Sea Bass and said it was scrumptious. I had a side of asparagus which was served with a side dipping sauce, butter and a cream mixture. It was delightful and plentiful so I took some home and ate it the next day. We ordered margaritas which were nothing to write home about, but it's not a Mexican restaurant, so I wasn't expecting to be wowed. For dessert, I ordered an apple pie a la mode, which is my favorite and it did not disappoint! I definitely recommend going here for good food and ambiance. We were out on the road today near Rockville Centre as our month long reservations at Chat Noir turned out to be unusable. My daughter in law, who was known to like fish, was trying to get her birthday celebrated today, so we head for the Nautical Mile in Freeport. There are several places on this street that we like a lot, and Nautilus seemed like just the ticket for an occasion. It was. We took advantage of the Prix Fixe 3 course meals, and all four of us were well served by competent staff, bringing out first rate food. I got fried oysters, followed by crisp bronzino, which my son also ordered. Wife got clam and corn chowder followed by fried shrimp, and birthday girl got lobster bisque and salmon. The restaurant was empty except for another table of 4 which was good since we couldn't stay too long so the service was quick. The staff were all very nice & attentive but not overbearing which was perfect. We started with the crab cocktail (very good & a nice portion) & baked clams, my friends enjoyed them. I was in the mood for shrimp so I ordered the fried shrimp which were large & very good with a side of broccoli. Alas , this is no longer the case , a very limited menu with quite a hefty price. The waitstaff was very cordial and friendly but the food has certainly taken a turn for the worst. My wife ordered the bone in prime rib? Which was done to perfection but that's just one item .. I ordered the breaded shrimp platter which was still in the shell under the breading , tasteless and rubbery.. needless to say I ate only 1 piece and I also had the baked clams as an appetizer, absolutely nothing special. And I do not appreciate a basket of assorted day old bread rolls.. so if you have an extra $200 in your wallet I suggest you make 20 trips to Burger King and this way at least you won't leave bitterly disappointed. read more

The Manhattan clam chowder was excellent. Five of us ate dinner here last night. When we sat down, we were served with an amazing bread basket. I was surprised and delighted it contained homemade banana bread. It was absolutely delicious! I ordered the halibut served with a lobster sauce. It actually had bites of lobster and the halibut was a nice big piece. It was delicious. My husband had the prime rib which he loved. The skirt steak was also cooked perfect. We shared burnt broccoli and mashed squashes. Everything was delicious! I must also mention our waitress, Debra. She was on top of it! She read every special and mentioned the price for each one. We appreciated that! We had a one year with us as well and she took that into consideration and helped to make our dinner completely enjoyable. Their dessert menu was attractive.
