Delicious food with huge portions. The staff is always pleasant and accommodating. Every dish is fresh and made to order.
Came to Popei's on a Saturday night while visiting friends in Long Island. Thank God we had a reservation because the place was packed out. After eating I can see why! First off there is valet parking so no need to panic when you pull up to the small parking lot. Second, make a reservation, especially if it's the weekend. Third, come hungry... there are so many delicious options and the seafood is extremely fresh. We were a party of 8 so we ordered a bunch of different options, even the kids enjoyed everything. Prices are average and this establishment is definitely family friendly. From what I could see, you can tell this restaurant has regulars so be prepared to fall in love and keep coming back for more!
This is a must try place!! Food here was delicious especially the 2 lbs Steamed Lobster w Butter!! Their bread was crack!! New England Clam Chowder & calamari were both delicious & fries were crispy & yummy too!!! Soft Shell crab was good just too much breading!! Service was excellent!!! What can you say about a local place with amazing seafood and Joe behind the bar and kitchen. Shelby makes an amazing expresó martini and if you sit at the bar the ambience is "Cheers" like. [[HIGHLIGHT]]You make friends with the regulars.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The service is quick and attentive but the reason you come here is the food. The food is perfectly on spot. The Long Island bisque is an amazing blend of white and red clam chowder. The mussels in lobster sauce are orgasmic (lol) and the steaks and chops are perfectly cooked. I have been coming here for years and realized that I had yet to post this review for fear of losing my seat at the bar.
Took the wife out for Mother's Day and we haven't been here in a bite and man did we have a great meal. [[HIGHLIGHT]]First the location is small but it does pack a HUGE punch![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We sat across from the bar at a high top, the bartender was our server and he was super friendly and knowledgeable. We started with some garlic bread for the table (complement of the house) and then some calamari (delicious) and mozzarella sticks (average). For entrees my wife had the snow crab dinner which she absolutely loved with a side of Cajun waffle fries. My son and I had the strip steaks. I had side of angel hair with garlic and oil and he had the straight fries. The steaks came with vegetables and corn on cob. Everything we had was delicious and the flavors were on point. So a side note, this location is in a strip of stores and parking is tight BUT they provide valet service which is a bonus in my book and the crew outside is great. If you're looking for tasty fresh seafood or a delicious hot steak this is your place!
Popei's (pronounced like the Sailor Man) is in a strip mall. It has gotten so popular over the years that they now have valet parking. We just always park across Wantagh Avenue. It's easier. The ambiance is nothing to speak of with 2 rooms, the bar area, and the main dining room. Unfortunately, as soon as you walk in, there's a horrible smell that lingers that has been there for all the years we've gone. Is it mold? Is it the bathroom all the way in the back? Is it dirty rags they use to clean this place? We don't know. Luckily the service and food make up for it. As soon as we sat down, our waitress came with the most delectable garlic bread and asked us if we wanted drinks. She came back in what seemed like moments. We ordered appetizers: I had the biggest, chewiest, cherrystone clams on the half shell with lemon and a nice horseradishy cocktail sauce. I've been into oysters lately, so when I ordered these clams, I forgot how delectable they were. Fresh and briny perfection. Hubby got the Long Island Chowder which is a mix of both Manhattan and New England Chowder. Again, perfection. For the main meal, hubby got an everything seafood pasta and I got a seafood pasta covered in Ricotta and Mozzarella with broccoli (must have those greens!) mixed in. We each took home more than half. We'll each add more pasta to our dishes as there was so much seafood in our dishes. Leftovers for days! Our waitress even remembered to ask about the email giving me $15 off my meal as a birthday gift. Great freebie! I would say go. Definitely. Just be warned about those couple of things and you'll have the best time.

I've been coming to Popei's since I was a kid. It's always been good, but I think I'm bold enough to say that it's somehow gotten even better over time (or maybe I'm just old enough to appreciate it for what it is). There are few places you can go and eat this well at any price point, but the constantly evolving specials and weeknight all you can eat deals really allow you to get a true bang for your buck. Service is swift and friendly, ambiance is a very casual come as you are type of vibe. The garlic bread they have here is the best you'll ever have and should not be missed. This time around I tried the new "pick two" combo - I went with crab legs and a lobster, plus it came with a salad. My family also got the expectant lobster, a whole lobster stuffed with crabmeat and shrimp, which is outstanding. The steamers here are always fresh, sweet and delicious, and the jumbo shrimp cocktail truly lives up to its name. If you haven't been here yet, what are you waiting for?

Same as last time, [[HIGHLIGHT]]more crowded[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]], different dishes, food was excellent (see photos below), very friendly staff (our waitress gave me a big hug before we left, even after I told her approaching open arms that I was already spoken for, which she dismissed as "cute," and smiling owner/chef shook my hand with a strong grip). It's a keeper.
Visited my favorite Clam bar and had the crab legs which were at a "Market Rate" of 60.dollars. i was not disappointed! Everything was delicious right down to the Baked Potato and Broccoli with a few steamed Carrots. My friend had the swordfish which she said was really good. We also enjoyed our server. I think her name was maybe Kayla? I know she was a kindergarten teacher. The owner, Joe, also stopped by our table to make sure everything was perfect, which truly showed how much they care about their guests. The last time I dined here, I ordered the 4-pound stuffed lobster, and it was so memorable that I couldn't resist ordering it again. It was just as delicious as I remembered--loaded with shrimp and scallops, perfectly prepared, and full of flavor. I chose the New England clam chowder as my side, which was excellent as well. The portions were incredibly generous, and I ended up taking most of my meal home to enjoy later. My husband ordered the stuffed shrimp and flounder combination and loved it. I haven't been to Popei's in many years and was happy to see that they're still around! On this occasion, we went for a friend's birthday lunch. They have a lunch and dinner menu, with lots of selections! We wanted to dine family-style, so 3 of us shared 3 items from their lunch & dinner menus, and 2 desserts: -- Complimentary Garlic Bread: Fantastic!! We asked for extra so we could have it with our mussels pot. -- Mussels Pot with white wine, garlic & oil (dinner menu/$23)...Incredible!! So flavorful! Especially with their garlic bread for dipping! This was our favorite dish, and the perfect portion for 3 ppl to share. Get this! -- Pompei Special: a variety of seafood over linguini w.butter garlic sauce (lunch special/ $24): this was good but slightly bland. It would have been better with the white wine garlic & oil sauce from the mussels pot. But the seafood was fresh and plentiful. -- Stuffed Flounder w.lump crab meat and veg (lunch special/$19): very good. This was a lunch portion, so not ideal for sharing but a great meal for one person. -- Spumoni Truffle Ice Cream ($11): this came cut in 4 pieces, and was easy to share. Delicious and very satisfying! -- Tiramisu ($12): this was good but ordinary. I would try something else next time. This was a great meal. We wanted to have soft shell crab but it was still a little early in the season, so we'll have to come back next month to have some! Customer service was welcoming and friendly. There's a small parking lot in front of the restaurant. It wasn't a problem during lunch but I can see it being more difficult during dinner and weekends. read more

Hands-down their service is top tier. Every staff member in the room are friendly and pays attention to you. Warm smiles and welcomes are bouncing all over. Almost everything we had so just plain and simply good. One can debate over salt level, but that's personal preference. Really enjoyed their sweetened iced tea that was not so sweet! I recommend this place!! We ordered the blackened sword fish with vegetables and accompanied by a baked potato. If you never tried sword fish it is like eating a piece of steak! It isn't flaky, but firm enough that you have to cut with a knife. Delicious! Our favorite fish to eat. Never a fishy taste!! The second dish we got was lobster tails with vegetables accompanied by a baked potato. This was good but on the saltier side! I would definitely try this place. Ambiance and decor very lovely. After a glorious beach day, we headed to Popeis Clam Bar in Bethpage to celebrate the birthdays of my girlfriend's two daughters--and what a perfect ending it turned out to be! From the moment we walked in, the staff made us feel welcome with their warm, friendly service. The seafood was outstanding--lobster, clams, and big steaming pots packed with flavor. Truly delicious and generous portions. The highlight? I asked for a slice of tiramisu with two candles, and not only did the staff pull it off, but everyone--staff and guests--joined in singing happy birthday. Such a fun, thoughtful touch that made the night unforgettable. Great food, amazing service, and an atmosphere that makes you feel part of the family. Couldn't have asked for a better way to wrap up the day! read more

Came here for restaurant week and glad we did. Parking is pretty tight, but they do have complimentary valet. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The location is tiny, but is always packed![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] There are so many daily specials, that every day seems like restaurant week, but my party and I opted to do the restaurant week special because it included the appetizer, entrée, and dessert. We each got a cocktail to start, for the life of me i can't remember their names- I should've wrote the names down, but they were all delicious and everyone enjoyed them. For appetizers, I got the baked clams, which were amazing, my friend got the Thai chili calamari which was also great and then we also got a wedge salad, which was good and the shrimp on top was a nice touch. For entrées, two of us got half a lobster, skirts steak, and vegetables and my friend got the stuffed flounder. All the entrées were plentiful and great and I think it was only $34.99 or something crazy good for three courses. All of the entrées come with a side of pasta as well that are like an entire entrée on their own regarding portion sizes. They give you many options for what type of pasta and also the sauces to have on top. For dessert, we were all stuffed so we took home different desserts. I brought home the chocolate cake which I really enjoyed. We all had a great time and are looking forward to going back. read more

Catered Popei's for the first time over the summer. The food and delivery service were top notch, large portions with all the fixings. All my guest kept asking where the food was from. We had a mix of seafood & pasta, everything was good. Extra points for oyster delivery! Dined in for the 1st time on Sunday night, casual atmosphere, wasn't too busy, quick, friendly service. The staff is so attentive and friendly. Portions are huge so come here hungry or with a group! Party of 2 we took more than 1/2 of our food home. Stuffed mushrooms & Caesar salad are a great starters. I had the shrimp linguine with spicy marinara, delicious, the sauce could have been a little spicer. Full bar, free refills on soft drinks, & I saw a sign for valet parking in front. read more

Just got home from a wonderful dinner at Popei's. Tuesday in the Tent. Live music, $5 Margaritas, $1 raw clams. Fantastic service and the food was delicious. I had a Margarita, 1/2 doz clams and Chicken Francese with a salad. Brought home a lot of leftovers. Husband had the special of Skirt Steak & stuffed Shrimp, cooked to perfection, he loved it. Also, Popei's makes the best garlic bread. WE will be returning. Haven't had such a fun time in awhile. read more

UPDATE: Popei's never disappoints. The TERRIFIC staff, comfortable ambiance & GREAT food make this my "go to" restaurant. I always look forward to seeing Joe, the owner, and the wonderful people that work there. This place is the gold standard for customer service. Janice, Darleen, Javier and others will make sure that you leave happy & well fed! My new favorites: Lobster roll (PACTED with meat), fried shrimp, sautéed veggies and, of course, the complimentary garlic bread. read more

Wanted oysters and good seafood so we came here. Service was excellent, food and drinks perfect! Make a reservation. We eat in the bar area on a high table. It was fine. Oysters were fresh and yummy! Loved all my food and have leftovers. Portions are large! Parking is valet or self park in the back that only has 4 spaces. We parked across the street on a residential block. We are not offering the all you can eat specials at the moment due to the fact that we cannot get the abundance of the crab legs needed. Hopefully soon things will be getting back to normal and they will be coming back. We do have crab legs though…

Lunch menu ends at 4:00 but, the dinner menu is served all day and night!!
