I haven't been to Popei's in many years and was happy to see that they're still around! On this occasion, we went for a friend's birthday lunch. They have a lunch and dinner menu, with lots of selections! We wanted to dine family-style, so 3 of us shared 3 items from their lunch & dinner menus, and 2 desserts: -- Complimentary Garlic Bread: Fantastic!! We asked for extra so we could have it with our mussels pot. -- Mussels Pot with white wine, garlic & oil (dinner menu/$23)...Incredible!! So flavorful! Especially with their garlic bread for dipping! This was our favorite dish, and the perfect portion for 3 ppl to share. Get this! -- Pompei Special: a variety of seafood over linguini w.butter garlic sauce (lunch special/ $24): this was good but slightly bland. It would have been better with the white wine garlic & oil sauce from the mussels pot. But the seafood was fresh and plentiful. -- Stuffed Flounder w.lump crab meat and veg (lunch special/$19): very good. This was a lunch portion, so not ideal for sharing but a great meal for one person. -- Spumoni Truffle Ice Cream ($11): this came cut in 4 pieces, and was easy to share. Delicious and very satisfying! -- Tiramisu ($12): this was good but ordinary. I would try something else next time. This was a great meal. We wanted to have soft shell crab but it was still a little early in the season, so we'll have to come back next month to have some! Customer service was welcoming and friendly. I've been coming here with my brother since we were kids and last night we went to celebrate my father's birthday my cousin ended up coming from Upstate everything was absolutely delicious. My Brother and I ordered the all you can eat snow crab legs that came with a side we got two salads, one with ranch one with French dressing my father ordered the ribeye steak with vegetables and corn and my cousin got the fried flounder and waffle fries for dessert our waitress came out with cheesecakes and a candle singing happy birthday along with another waiter the staff is always so wonderful and extremely friendly The owner Joe even came by to ask how the food was YUM!!!! Came to Popei's on a Saturday night while visiting friends in Long Island. Thank God we had a reservation because the place was packed out. After eating I can see why! First off there is valet parking so no need to panic when you pull up to the small parking lot. Second, make a reservation, especially if it's the weekend. Third, come hungry... there are so many delicious options and the seafood is extremely fresh. We were a party of 8 so we ordered a bunch of different options, even the kids enjoyed everything. Prices are average and this establishment is definitely family friendly. Took the wife out for Mother's Day and we haven't been here in a bite and man did we have a great meal. First the location is small but it does pack a HUGE punch! We sat across from the bar at a high top, the bartender was our server and he was super friendly and knowledgeable. We started with some garlic bread for the table (complement of the house) and then some calamari (delicious) and mozzarella sticks (average). For entrees my wife had the snow crab dinner which she absolutely loved with a side of Cajun waffle fries. My son and I had the strip steaks. I had side of angel hair with garlic and oil and he had the straight fries. The steaks came with vegetables and corn on cob. Everything we had was delicious and the flavors were on point. So a side note, this location is in a strip of stores and parking is tight BUT they provide valet service which is a bonus in my book and the crew outside is great. What can you say about a local place with amazing seafood and Joe behind the bar and kitchen. Shelby makes an amazing expresó martini and if you sit at the bar the ambience is "Cheers" like. You make friends with the regulars. The service is quick and attentive but the reason you come here is the food. The food is perfectly on spot. The Long Island bisque is an amazing blend of white and red clam chowder. The mussels in lobster sauce are orgasmic (lol) and the steaks and chops are perfectly cooked. My family and I had a wonderful experience at Popei's Clam Bar! We celebrated my Mom's 83rd birthday and my 57th birthday! We all enjoyed the Popei Special! The clams, shrimp, and mussels were clearly fresh and cooked to perfection! The Long Island soup which mixes New England and Manhattan clam chowder was truly delicious and so easy on the taste buds! Popei's (pronounced like the Sailor Man) is in a strip mall. It has gotten so popular over the years that they now have valet parking. We just always park across Wantagh Avenue. It's easier. The ambiance is nothing to speak of with 2 rooms, the bar area, and the main dining room. Unfortunately, as soon as you walk in, there's a horrible smell that lingers that has been there for all the years we've gone. Is it mold? Is it the bathroom all the way in the back? Is it dirty rags they use to clean this place? We don't know. Luckily the service and food make up for it. As soon as we sat down, our waitress came with the most delectable garlic bread and asked us if we wanted drinks. She came back in what seemed like moments. We ordered appetizers: I had the biggest, chewiest, cherrystone clams on the half shell with lemon and a nice horseradishy cocktail sauce. I've been into oysters lately, so when I ordered these clams, I forgot how delectable they were. Fresh and briny perfection. Hubby got the Long Island Chowder which is a mix of both Manhattan and New England Chowder. Again, perfection. For the main meal, hubby got an everything seafood pasta and I got a seafood pasta covered in Ricotta and Mozzarella with broccoli (must have those greens!) mixed in. We each took home more than half. We'll each add more pasta to our dishes as there was so much seafood in our dishes. Leftovers for days! Our waitress even remembered to ask about the email giving me $15 off my meal as a birthday gift. Great freebie! I would say go. Definitely. Visited my favorite Clam bar and had the crab legs which were at a "Market Rate" of 60.dollars. i was not disappointed! Everything was delicious right down to the Baked Potato and Broccoli with a few steamed Carrots. My friend had the swordfish which she said was really good. We also enjoyed our server. I've been coming to Popei's since I was a kid. It's always been good, but I think I'm bold enough to say that it's somehow gotten even better over time (or maybe I'm just old enough to appreciate it for what it is). There are few places you can go and eat this well at any price point, but the constantly evolving specials and weeknight all you can eat deals really allow you to get a true bang for your buck. Service is swift and friendly, ambiance is a very casual come as you are type of vibe. The garlic bread they have here is the best you'll ever have and should not be missed. This time around I tried the new "pick two" combo - I went with crab legs and a lobster, plus it came with a salad. My family also got the expectant lobster, a whole lobster stuffed with crabmeat and shrimp, which is outstanding. We had a family dinner here one Saturday evening. Because they were busy, we sat in the tent out back which was quieter and still warm. The server was great -- very friendly and checked on menu items to verify gluten wasn't in them. I recommend this place!! We ordered the blackened sword fish with vegetables and  accompanied by a baked potato. If you never tried sword fish it is like eating a piece of steak! It isn't flaky, but firm enough that you have to cut with a knife. Delicious! Our favorite fish to eat. Never a fishy taste!! Came here for restaurant week and glad we did. Parking is pretty tight, but they do have complimentary valet. The location is tiny, but is always packed! There are so many daily specials, that every day seems like restaurant week, but my party and I opted to do the restaurant week special because it included the appetizer, entrée, and dessert. We each got a cocktail to start, for the life of me i can't remember their names- I should've wrote the names down, but they were all delicious and everyone enjoyed them. For appetizers, I got the baked clams, which were amazing, my friend got the Thai chili calamari which was also great and then we also got a wedge salad, which was good and the shrimp on top was a nice touch. For entrées, two of us got half a lobster, skirts steak, and vegetables and my friend got the stuffed flounder. All the entrées were plentiful and great and I think it was only $34.99 or something crazy good for three courses. All of the entrées come with a side of pasta as well that are like an entire entrée on their own regarding portion sizes. They give you many options for what type of pasta and also the sauces to have on top. For dessert, we were all stuffed so we took home different desserts. Catered Popei's for the first time over the summer. The food and delivery service were top notch, large portions with all the fixings. All my guest kept asking where the food was from. We had a mix of seafood & pasta, everything was good. Extra points for oyster delivery! Dined in for the 1st time on Sunday night, casual atmosphere, wasn't too busy, quick, friendly service. The staff is so attentive and friendly. Portions are huge so come here hungry or with a group! Party of 2 we took more than 1/2 of our food home. Just got home from a wonderful dinner at Popei's. Tuesday in the Tent. Live music, $5 Margaritas, $1 raw clams. Fantastic service and the food was delicious. I had a Margarita, 1/2 doz clams and Chicken Francese with a salad. Brought home a lot of leftovers. Husband had the special of Skirt Steak & stuffed Shrimp, cooked to perfection, he loved it. I don't eat seafood yet this may be one of my favorite restaurants on Long Island. Had the chicken parm with a side of pasta with garlic/oil and wow was that tasty. Huge portion full of flavor, perfectly cooked and tender. Absolutely delicious and better than many LI Italian restaurants (which is saying something). And they bring both free garlic bread (and oh wow was it good, how can something so simple be that good, but damn) and a crunchy bread with butter, also delish. Besides the food, the service was impeccable. Our waitress was super friendly and proactive. And the manager/owner keeps making his way around the dining room. Five stars all around. Having read a number of positive reviews I thought it would be a good idea to check this place out for myself. Great decision. Hostess was very welcoming and that same upbeat vibe continued with all staff that with whom we interacted. Server was excellent and explained each special. I'm a big fan of ordering from a daily specials menu. You can always get the regular menu items anytime. Skirt steak and lobster was a nice choice. The fried shrimp platter from the regular menu was fresh and crispy. Nice size fresh salad was my side dish choice along with accompanying vegetables. Popei's in Bethpage has a reputation for serving fresh fish and they did for sure. Started with oyster and really crispy, non greasy, calamari. Full bar. Valet parking. Wow...let's start there. I went in on a Tuesday evening during Restaurant Week and this little place was PACKED. They offer complementary valet service which is nice because parking is nearly impossible otherwise. It seemed like a lot of the other patrons didn't even realize it was Restaurant Week, they were just regulars. I noticed they offered EXCELLENT daily specials including AYCE Crab Legs (at $75/pp right now). My friend and I went with the Restaurant Week specials. I started with the wedge salad which came with shrimp. A little heavy handed with the dressing for me, but otherwise amazing. The main, and star of the show, was the lobster ravioli served with shrimp in ala vodka sauce - Mama Mia Ugh, what a shame this isn't a regular menu item because it was amazing! The staff was very attentive, we both had the same drink (I forgot the name but it was tropical) and it was great, and we were seated right away with reservations.
