Came here for dinner on a weekday. The dinner experience at Long Island's haunted restaurant exceeded our expectations. The place was exactly what we were looking for... Inexpensive, beautiful, and romantic atmosphere! The breathtaking view from across the street, overlooking the water on a warm summer day, was lovely. Although the restaurant was busy, we chose to dine on the outdoor patio, which featured a tent to protect against the rain. The service was great, the food was delicious, and the clams and sauce were perfect. Notably, they provide accommodations for gluten-free, soy-free, and dairy-free diets. Although we didn't witness any ghostly apparitions or spirits during our outdoor dinner, the staff revealed that paranormal phenomena can occasionally be observed indoors. We highly recommend this restaurant and look forward to returning.

Meatballs

Was here with a large group Meatballs were tender, toothsome, well cooked, seasoned nicely with a little kick. Would order again for sure. Chicken parm did not seem pounded but was perfectly tender and a more than adequate portion. The crust was strongly adherent and crisp. Seasoning was very nice. Pork Chop was cooked perfectly and had a nice crusted piece of cheese atop it and on this crust rested a medley of hot peppers and garlic. A stupendous dish. My gripe--the potatoes and chop was sitting in what seemed to be oil. Maybe it was juice but that juice looked like oil to me. Service was great...I mean really really great! Good lighting but here during day! Acoustics were tough and hard for me to hear and be heard. Maybe because we were in a large group? I would come back again--great food and stellar service!

Lobster Roll

Enjoyed a Saturday brunch here today. We got the lobster roll and surf and turf specials and the Harbor Mist cocktail and Paloma cocktails. Also crème brûlée for dessert. Everything was delicious! They made the lobster roll with butter which I heard my bf say was delicious. Also the surf and turk was a chicken sandwich with soft shell crab. It was very good. I enjoyed the Paloma cocktail. The harbor mist was good but sweet which my bf liked. The crème brûlée was also very delicious and a bit lemony. The view was nice but our corner got a little too sunny sometimes. The only thing that was annoying was that they always come back asking if we want more things every few minutes. They rushed my bf into another cocktail and us into desserts. The restaurant wasn't that crowded at all so I don't understand why the service was kind of pushy. The food and views were good and the service was good at first but then it seemed pushy because it was every few minutes someone would check in on us and ask if we want anything else. Also there was a surcharge on using credit card that was annoying. Other than that, it was a nice place.

The hostess at Harbor Mist was wonderful. We made our reservation on Open Table and asked for a 2nd floor window view and got a text message that they were full and could not guarantee the window. We received a confirmation call morning of and were told the same thing. Once we checked in the hostess said I've got you and gave us a wonderful seat. We had a very nice waiter, but was definitely over worked and did not pay enough attention to make it an enjoyable night. He did apologize about the kitchen being backed up and we had a leisurely 2.5 hour meal. Not our choice. Did not see any tables turning over either. I guess big staffing issues. Food was good but not great. Roast beef special was a 1/2 cut with a baked potato a little bigger than a jumbo egg. I have actually had a bigger prime rib and baked potato at Outback Steakhouse that was about 30% cheaper and almost as good. Not worth the price, but tasted good. Great Caesar salad, decent baked clams and desserts by Bindi always good. All in all a good meal, decent service, but there are too many better restaurants to try than to come back here for dinner again. Maybe try lunch one day. Glad we came. Would tell others it's good. Just not worth a second try.

One of my favorites, great food, excellent service with a cozy romantic atmosphere. Always a great time to be had at Harbor Mist. They have their own parking lot which is a big plus. The wait staff is always so exceptional and knowledgeable, service with a smile. Food is some of the best on Long Island and prices are decent, nice wine list and excellent drinks being mixed here highly recommended

Was super impressed during my last visit at Harbor Mist. The ambiance on a Monday evening was perfect and the service was very friendly. The buffalo cauliflower bites were a hit along with the rest of the food we ordered. We took advantage of the 30% off cash discount - which is a fantastic deal! Highly recommend!

Overall - 3/5 - solid Italian spot but nothing that really blows you out of the water. Food was good, kind if a mixed bag. Meats were very tender (lamb, veal) but certain appetizers and sides were lacking (clams casino, calamari). Fairly priced though for what you get. Service was really good, waitress was very warm and friendly. Staff was very attentive and on top of things, definitely the highlight. Inside was small, not tight, and it was clean. Overall the place does not really wow you but if you want a solid Italian spot, it is worth a stop. Best Dish - Lamb Chops Appetizer Would Return - potentially

We got the butternut squash which sounded very fancy on the menu but was just butternut squash with a piece of fried prosciutto stuck in each portion on top of cacio e pepe sauce which by the way was broken. We also got what we thought was going to be artichokes on a bed of arugula but was mostly arugula with a few small pieces of artichoke and some pistachios. It was bland, definitely needed some vinegar or lemon or something. Not worth the price, I could have thrown that together myself at home. We also had the spinach/pear salad. Again, I could have made that at home. I got the lemon shrimp linguine. I liked the pasta, I liked the sauce, I did not like the shrimp that came with it. They were tiny and maybe boiled, just not great. We also had the ravioli. One big extremely dense ravioli, raviolo or whatever a singular one is technically called. It was ok but so dense and rich. We also had the bolognese. Not the best. For the prices we paid we expected greatness. We each had dessert. So for the 3 of us the bill came to almost $300 with tip. I personally felt like the service did not warrant the tip but we left it anyway. We weren't checked on, we had to wait a long time to get the bill and we paid by phone app. The service wasn't great. I think the best part of the entire night was the little bucket of candy that we got with the check. The gummy butterfly was delicious! No, we won't be back.

The bar area is separate from the main dining room and feels like its own space, with a large bar, a few small tables, and seating along the windows. It was fairly lively for a Thursday night. The bartenders were fun and engaging, clearly knew many of the regulars, and did a great job keeping the energy up. While there are no formal happy hour deals, they do serve complimentary chunks of parmesan, which were very good. The cocktail and wine menu is fairly extensive. We only ordered a small starter (fingerling potatoes for $13), but the dinner portions we saw looked generous. I enjoyed a glass of Malbec (~$15) and generous pour. Prices are closer to New York City pricing, though the portion sizes may be enough to share. When you enter the restaurant, you pass a large patio with tables, which would be especially nice during warmer months. Overall, Farm Italy feels like a great spot for catching up with friends over drinks, and I would definitely come back to try more of the food.

I remembered the restaurant so fondly and I've always wanted to go back since I moved out of LI. This weekend when I was visiting with my husband, I wanted to take him there because of how great it was the first time we went. We were able to grab a reservation for four people at 4 PM (which is pretty tough otherwise). Our server was nice and drinks were good but it didn't feel like that elevated experience that I once had here. The most disappointing part was that all of the food lacked so much flavor. We ordered the frito misto, the taglioni? (Pecorino cake style appetizer), salad, pappardelle, NY strip steak, roasted chicken. I felt like everything but the taglioni and salad lacked so much flavor and depth. I recall enjoying their food and having such an extraordinary experience the first time around, and this just felt like really basic food at a premium price point. I'm hoping it's a one off thing based off of circumstances outside their control, but I don't think I'd be going back anytime soon

Day 2: Escape from NYC to the North Shore of Long Island…read more Eatery 2 of 2 This was an interesting morning and day and I got to see places and things I've not seen before. We moved eastward along the L.I.E. and made a quick stop at the Starbucks in Little Neck Plaza. This is the last community in Queens along I-495 and in no way feels like the stereotypes people incorrectly have about New York City. Upon getting on the road again, even though we moved up to Northern Boulevard, we would soon be in Long Island. Note that Brooklyn and Queens are actually at the westernmost part of Long Island, but they are boroughs of New York City proper. Long Island only means that you have crossed into Nassau County... and could continue further east into Suffolk County. (Okay, now that I've explained that, I'm done being pedantic.) In no time, everything seemed to change. We saw mansions in Great Neck and small centers with upscale and boutique shops along the route, which was a continuation of Northern Boulevard named 25-A. We were approaching lunchtime and headed to Oyster Bay. We walked into a restaurant there on Long Island Sound. It was a mix of a Margaritaville crowd (what, in the Northeast?) and a boating enthusiast crowd, with a number of Karens and men suitably coupled with them. Said another way, the douchebag factor appeared higher than average. I asked that we move on. We then ended up in Cold Spring Harbor, which is completely different, and where small boutiques and nicer independent restaurants line a small strip. None of the posted menus appealed to me and I figured it was better to go right into the town of Huntington. By looking at the phone, it was down to a New American bistro and an Italian restaurant. A short wait at the New American restaurant sent us to Porto Fino. Note that it is not Portofino, which is the expensive Ligurian town and yacht harbor for the jet set. In fact, when I inquired about the regional leanings of the restaurant and its ownership, it was indicated that it might be Neapolitan. With that, and the fact that it was nicer, but not fine dining, I knew that "abbondanza" was coming down the pike. I was right. We looked at the menu and saw that they offered different pastas with different sauce preparations. If you wanted, you could switch the types of pasta, just like you can at places that reasonably accommodate their customers. The pastas selected were rigatoni and fusilli. The chosen sauces were of the tomato-cream variety and their ingredients were tangy and delicious. You've seen those vessel bowls where there's a small cupped area in the middle and a small amount of pasta is placed in it, am I right? At Porto Fino, it's a large vessel bowl with a large cupped area, making for a very filling plate of pasta. This also heightened how good the meal was. Prior to the meal, they brought out an appetizer that, while maybe billed as a focaccia, seemed more like pizza squares. They were more like a white pizza, topped with various vegetables, and they were also good. The summer weather was surprisingly mild. We ordered soft drinks to wash down the meal and cool us off, in addition to the glasses of ice water that were brought out. The interior was spacious and furnished in a way befitting the restaurant's ethnicity and genre. We were watching the server interact with a party that arrived prior to us and was eating, and the enthusiastic way he was attending to them was also extended to us. Lastly, the prices were fair for the quality and quantity received and for being in a nicer community on Long Island. This wasn't planned, so it was a fortuitous event. We just kept moving on from Oyster Bay and Cold Spring Harbor and ended up here. I also learned a lot about Long Island. I always thought that it would be a gridded and boilerplate extension of Queens, spilling over into the adjacent county, much like SoCal's San Fernando Valley over the mountain pass is built out like many parts of Los Angeles's basin. With large forested lots and winding two-lane roads, the northern part of it, at the very least, is not at all like that. I would gladly return here. I'm giving Porto Fino of Huntington, New York a strong 4 stars. We had a very satisfying lunch to fill and fuel us for the similarly interesting trip back to New York City that afternoon.
