98th Birthday Party Was Great! We had my mother-in-law's 98th birthday party there, and it was wonderful! We had a nice assortment of cold antipasto to start, followed by the filetto di pomodoro pasta which was perfectly cooked. Guests had a choice of about 5 or 6 entrees which included filet mignon, veal chop, and lamb chops - which were all delicious. Dessert was a strawberry shortcake, which was also delectable. The service was very attentive and the private room by the wine cellar is lovely. Kudos to Victor, Rafael and Rachel (and there were others, but I didn't get their names - sorry!) The only thing I would have liked would have been a printed menu outlining the courses at each place setting since half of our party was over 90, they had difficulty hearing the verbally announced appetizers and entrees. OH MY! A lovely old school Italian spot where you feel like youre in Nonna's living room. I mean the woodwork alone will take you back a few decades but the staff truly make the experience. Wow ! Was invited to a party in the wine room at Franina. The food was exceptional. Service was top-notch. This is an old-school italian restaurant that definitely knows what they are doing. We started with a delcious plate of fresh Mozzarella and Melon and prosciutto, then we had rigatoni wirh sauce. The pasta dish was so simple but yet so delicious. The pasta was cooked Al dente, and the sauce was amazing. I went with the Veal Chop wirh Peppers. Wow, I'm glad I did! The veal was cooked perfectly , and I highly suggest this dish. I didn't see a menu since I was at a party, but if this dish is available on the menu, get it ! Had very high expectations for this place given the fact that it's been around for a long time and people always rave about it, so let me start by saying the restaurant has a very old but elegant look to it, which I actually liked a lot. The food was good not exceptional. Menu is very simple but the specials are excellent, services was weird, we really never knew who our waiter was because it was somebody different every time. It is very high priced but we knew that going in so not complaining just sharing, the owner (I believe) is very knowledgeable and extremely polite. I just wish they'd update the menu and bring down those absolutely ridiculous wine prices, I've been to a lot of upscale restaurants, this by far had the craziest prices for wine and conveniently anything under $100 they didn't have. read more

Absolutely horrible experience. Owner/waiter?? quickly rattled off specials and then stood waiting for our order. When we said we didn't want those he was heavy breathing and said "fine I'll bring menus" he came back a few brief moments later to take our order and said "let's get this moving". We thought he needed the table but the back room wasn't being used as the lights were off and only four of the tables in the room we were in had patrons for the rest of the night. Very bizarre for 7pm on a weekend night. Food was subpar to say the least. Sadly I predict they'll be closed before long. Used to be great but unfortunately no longer. read more

This is by far the best Italian restaurant on Long Island. the food is very fresh and high quality. The service spot on too. Victor (owners son) runs the place mostly and is doing all the cooking himself. Pete the bartender and the entire wait staff are all friendly and very helpful. The 1st picture is lobster seafood salid for takeout for Thanksgiving dinner. The wine room has regular dinner seating and also can be reserved for private parties. There also is valet parking. They also have an elaborate Italian wine list stored in their masive wine cellar. Ask for the Zucchini flowers for an appetizer it's a definite must try. It's been several years since we have dined at Franina, and after enjoying our dining experience immensely, I just did not understand what kept us away for so long. I believe, Franina is one of the best Italian restaurants on Long Island that I have dined recently. As one enters the restaurant, one would find a traditional bar area to your left and further into the hallway is a grand slicer for prosciutto. There is comfortable cozy back dining room where we were seated and a second dining area that glances onto the rustic wine-storage section, which one would notice a considerable selection of Italian reds. Their staff, which also includes the owners personal notice, are attentive and friendly. We were pleased that the owner had seated us prior to our guests arriving. Once our party arrived, we chose two appetizers to share, one was the grilled octopus Polipo alla Griglia, and the other was the Lobster Seafood Salad. The appetizers were perfectly prepared, plentiful, and delicious. For dinner, I had the Monk Fish Oreganatta style special which was especially good. The others in our party very much enjoyed the Pollo Siciliana and the Herb Crusted Rack of Lamb. After enjoying a wonderful meal, we could not deter ourselves from the dessert menu. The ambiance is very warm and charming. And yes, sensational food with high quality presentation, service, and creativity. We will be dining at Frannia often when we are in town. read more

This is my 2nd time at Franina and this is one of the best Italian restaurants on Long Island or anywhere for that matter. Food is not only good but memorable. The linguini was perfectly cooked. I also had the rabbit and venison special which was both great. Venison is tough to cook but they made it taste like good steak. Rabbit was falling off the bone. RECOMMENDED On Wednesday, March 6th, I and four others dined at Franina, a restaurant that has been on the short list of fine Northern Italian restaurants. Parking is valet and the valet was very pleasant. While waiting for my companions, I enjoyed a top notch Belevedere Vodka Martini at the attractive bar. The restaurant honored our 7:00 p.m. reservation on time.Our waiter was competent but a little too brusque for my liking. He recited a nice list of specials. Pay attention. You may hear about some appealing dishes. I started with the Stuffed Artichoke ($19), a special. It was a superior version, not made "mushy" by an excessive olive-oil based sauce as this dish sometimes arrives at other places. I liked it. I followed up with the Braciole with Pappardelle Bolognese ($39.95). It was good but overpriced relative to portion size. Basically, I got a single small Braciole, a dollop of pasta and a few steamed vegetables. This is a $25.00 dish at most Italian restaurants. My rating is based upon the positive experience of my fellow diners. The one who had the Veal Siciliana said she enjoyed it, though it was a little salty for her taste. Two diners had the Caesar Salad, which was not on the menu but was special ordered. I tasted it. The lettuce was crisp and the dressing was fresh and tasty. One member dug the Lamb Shank ($54.00), pretty high priced for what is not real (veal) Osso Buco. Diners also enjoyed the Orecchette with Broccoli Rabe and the Paccheri Pasta with a (substituted) Meat Sauce. One person had Tiramisu for dessert and enjoyed it. BOTTOM LINE: I don't get the excessive praise for this restaurant but I recommend that you try it for yourself. read more

Twas the night before Thanksgiving....who wanted to go out...? Recently, I was asked what was my favorite italian restaurant on Long Island. Not wanting to be rude, I didn't say "home", I said I don't have one. Well, I was wrong. Franina is MY FAVORITE italian restaurant on Long Island. We have been going to Franina for the past several years. Always a solid meal with expert service. Normally, the restaurant is full and you need a reservation, especially on weekend nights. This night it was very slow. Actually, I think only 20 or so people had dinner during our meal. Sometimes, this can work against you. Not this night, it's part of what made the evening special. We felt that the entire staff was serving us exclusively. We felt special. We met the chef at the bar before our meal. We asked what fish was good, he responded with the usual suspects, bronzino, red snapper, swordfish...the usual. I know he personally made our meal. Perfection. We started with something that wasn't on the menu. Fried shrimp. I had been craving it. Not sure they do it all the time, maybe they did because it was slow. Well, they knocked it out of the park. U10's expertly battered in panko with a side of marinara sauce. Simple, right....not so easy to make extremely well. Hot, crunchy and not over cooked. Sublime. We followed by splitting the pappardelle with veal ragu. Also, surprisingly light. No butter or cream. That would be cheating. For our main, we split the branzino. Wow ! Sauteed and finished with a light dusting of breadcrumbs. Nicely garnished with vegetables and a few roasted potatoes. Again, simple, but hard to execute at this level. Perfection. Franina is the pinnacle of a professionally managed restaurant with seasoned and knowledgeable staff at all levels. It's sort of a ballet where the maitre de greets you and the captain takes your order and waiters bring your food. It's an experience that evokes earlier times ( times I am fortunate to remember as a child ). I am sure they still do table service on some dishes. I haven't seen it, but I'm sure they do. The room is elegant with graciously spaced tables. They have three dining rooms. Private parties would be nice here. Franina is a cut above. Give it a try. read more

It was a disgrace to Italian cuisine. Would not come here again. I felt nauseous after eating here. I ordered seafood special pasta (lobster, shrimp, mussels, clams) with white sauce for $46. Pasta is (usually) my favorite dish. It's an Italian restaurant, so of course I assume pasta is a safe choice to make. The pasta was served in what looked like soup-like liquid which tasted like ....chicken broth? Ew. I needed a soup spoon to eat what was supposed to be a basic white wine "sauce" with my pasta. The shrimp was not seasoned at all. It looked like it was unfrozen and just placed on top of plain pasta, floating on top of.... a sauce that looked more like watery soup. I was served half a small baby lobster. Also, not seasoned. I'm not sure what I was served, but it was definitely not what I would consider pasta. The only thing I DID enjoy was the cheesecake, coffee, and biscotti for dessert. We spent around $500 as one of the only customers in the place that evening, and the restaurant staff did not appreciate our business since they turned off most of the lights at 9pm as a very rude hint to hurry up and leave. The place closes at 9pm, but you can at least give customers a fair chance to finish up dessert instead of turning off the lights. Especially considering we were one of only two occupied tables supporting the empty restaurant that evening. read more

We stopped in for lunch recently and it was absolutely fabulous. They started with some bread and spreads and we knew we were in for a treat. We had cold seafood antipasto, mussels and I had the red snapper special for dinner. My other guests had the octopus appetizer as dinner. I also had the lentil soup to start. All so good. I opted for a glass of Pinot noir. Service was excellent even though the coat check, bartender and waiter were all the same people. Be aware this place isn't cheap. We were a party of four with only three glasses of wine and no dessert except espresso , total was almost $300. That was lunch ! This place is absolutely amazing! Im not sure about the review regarding valet parking but there is plenty of parking near the hotel that you can park and not worry about valet parking. DECOR: It was a very nice setup. It is not that big but there is room for groups and you are not sitting on top of another table. The spacing is utilized well and I ate my meal comfortably. Additionally, its a little fancy. I went in leggings because I was in the area and wanted to try it but i definitely recommend nicer clothes. Great date place. FOOD: DELICIOUS. I had the best spaghetti and meatballs of my life there. My friend had the duck and he said it was really good. The coffee and the tiramisu is definitely amazing. I am most definitely a coffee person and this ranks above the best with their coffee. Also, my friend does not like tiramisu and he loved it here. It is definitely worth it. The prosciutto with melon it very good as well. PRICE: It is definitely pricey but it could be a lot worst. The appetizer, two entrees, two desserts, and a coffee was $98. Really not too bad. The individual prices may be a little "scary" but definitely worth it. SERVICE: They were genuinely great people. From the time we arrived the service was impeccable and professional. The restaurant has a warm and inviting atmosphere. We felt right at home with our two sons whom the staff catered to. They could tell they didn't like the gelato I had ordered and without asking, quickly changed it out for vanilla ice cream sundaes. This is my favorite Italian restaurant on Long Island. My family and I usually come here for our birthdays. It has a very nice intimate ambiance. Pretty nice wine selection. Food is always outstanding and portions are just right. You have to get the Zabaglione. It is the best dessert and they make it right in front of you. I would recommend making a reservation as it can get pretty packed. Everyone who works there is pleasant and extremely accommodating. One downside is that it can be hard to turn into their parking lot from Jericho. If you're looking for a good Italian spot, this is the place to go! read more

Marrying to an Italian, I had high hopes for Franina after hearing so many people rave about it on social media and my husband's grandma who used to open a famous Italian restaurant that she visited here before long time ago. It was a disappointment, to say the least, when I brought the 92-year-old grandma of my husband, my husband and my kid here. We came here for an early dinner and the waiter did not even give us a menu before he asked us what we would like to drink beside water. I tried to give him a hint that we need an end by saying with a smile "Oh it's my first time here" but he did not give us a menu still and stared at us. I then said I would like a sangria, and then he said (I quoted) "Oh Sangria is cheap and we don't have that here." So I ordered Pinot grip goo instead. Then it came to the point of reading the specials and the waiter clearly did not have any interest. Finally when it came to the point that we wanted to refill the drink and get eh check, our waiter was nowhere to be found because he was gladly greeting other patrons at other tables. To be fair the food was good - Just not special. There are so many other better Italian restaurants on Long Island that not only have unique taste in their menu but also much better service attitude. Came here for valentines day with wife. Was looking for a new place and wanted italian food. Came in and was seated immediately even without reservations. The waiter came over almost instantly and asked if we wanted drinks. Unfortunately they had a limited menu for valentines day which was 89.95 per person. I had the filet mignon and a mozzarella and tomato salad. The salad had a big chunk of delicious fresh mozzarella. The filet was cooked perfectly and was totally amazing. For desert i had a chocolate crepe with fresh fruit and a chocolate strawberry. The food was totally outstanding and the service was super fantastic, among the best in the area. I was hoping for good italian food which was my only negative thought. Unfortunately we never checked to see if there was a limited menu on holidays. The food was delicious, But very pricey. I wanted to like this place, but it did not happen. We came here for a Friday night dinner without a reservation. We walked in and were not even greeted by the host/possibly owner at the desk. In fact, we were given an attitude that we did not have reservations and my partner was looked down upon because he was in a t-shirt. The service was not great. Again, the word "snooty" quickly comes to my mind when I think about our visit to Franina's. Not the good snooty catering to its customers, but rather superficial and a bit too self centered. For a place that is located by Hess station and does not even have the right Google Maps marker in the right place (the place is on the south side of Jericho Tpke, right by Hess station unlike the map showed), it claims to be something it isn't. Poor service, ok food, very depressing atmosphere and empty tables. That is besides the fact that you have to use Valet parking. Prices are obnoxious for what they offer. Two stars for food only.
