Had a great brunch experience here with my friends! Called ahead to make sure there was enough table space for a big group. We all enjoyed our orders, but my favorite was the Pulled Pork Hash. The pulled pork was nicely flavored and it was really filling. The staff were also really nice and flexible to help our friends customize their orders for their dietary restrictions. River Mill is a Pub eatery with a rustic look in decor. I ordered the onion soup with pork wontons, very different but very good, would definitely order it again. I had baked clams that consisted of mostly bread crumbs. The "Hot" Fried Chicken Sandwich was ok, it was very greasy, we were told the grease came from the dressing on the chicken. I recently went to the River Mill for lunch and was pleasantly surprised. There were 5 of us and we were sat at a table with plenty of room. The service was excellent and our server had a great understanding of the menu and could offer multiple suggestions. I had a salad which was great and my companions had burgers and chicken. Which everyone enjoyed. The homemade chips were delicious and I was disappointed they didn't come with the salad but there was more than enough to share. A hidden gem in Long Island for delicious tavern food. It seems like a regular bar with some food items, but it really is a wonderful sit down experience. Appetizers: - Buffalo Chicken Wings: Super delicious, pretty big wings with a good amount of meat, the buffalo had the perfect kick to it. - Short Rib Pizza/Flatbread: Super savory, the short rib was tender and delicious. -Pierogis: Coming from someone who's not a fan of Pierogi's, these were one of my favorite appetizers. It was topped with some sort of sweet pancetta glaze, which really elevated the flavor. - Margarita Pizza: Really good, different from your usual sauced margarita slice (marinated chopped tomatoes instead) but tasty nonetheless! - Caesar Salad: Usually it's the KALE Caesar Salad which is to die for with their charred kale. Unfortunately they were out of kale that night, but we still enjoyed the traditional salad! Entrees - Crab Cakes: My favorite thing from the menu here for dinner. The crab cakes were a generous portion, very meaty and not as bready. Complemented with a tasty mango salsa and sliced carrots. The Filet Mignon, Pork Chop and Ahi Tuna Salad are also all delicious entrees. Dessert: - Butter Cake: The best dessert at the restaurant, it was so rich and moist. Formerly the Swiss Tavern, River Mill is a quaint small restaurant and bar with hard working servers, host, and owners. This was my second attendance to this establishment. I forgot that the name and owners changed in 2015. Walk in and there's a cozy ambiance. Bar to the left, high tables to the right, main dining room past these Dining area with same cozy wood interior ambiance. Their wine list is unintimidating and simple for an easy no nonsense choice. For appetizers the Calamari comes with a choice of Crispy Classic, Buffalo, or Kung Pao. We picked the former Classic which was very good. The Pretzel with Cheese app was fluffy and warm which we all enjoyed. My 12 oz NY Strip was presented with potato-shaped slices of cornbread in a sauce and fresh string beans which was delicious. Two at the table enjoyed their Clam Soup (not chowder), one their Fish Tacos, and 5th the Crab Cakes. The service and hard work is what really impressed me about this place. The servers were great renewing the water carafe and explanation of dishes, but I could have sworned some of our dishes were brought out by an owner or the chef himself. Something about these guys presented with finese and wisdom. One Google search while writing this review and wouldn't you know it, both the Chef/Owner and the other Owner brought out the main dishes! We had an exceptional time at this cozy gem. Extra rating for the ingenious calamari choices and the seamless teamwork. I pass by River Mill most days, had considered giving them a second chance, from a strange experience that I had many years ago when it had a different name. Decided to stop in finally, for (potentially) a beer and some food, and I was pleasantly surprised to see that they had Smithwick's on tap at the bar. I brought out my work, wrote out a few things and waited patiently to be acknowledged. I have to say I was not made to feel comfortable, I did not get a beer. I did not get any food. I had the opportunity to eat at River Mill at a visit to a Kiwanis Club meeting. It was a delightful and a thoroughly enjoyable experience. They have a nice size parking lot behind the restaurant and there is street parking as well. It's right on Ocean Ave off Peninsula Blvd and extremely easy to get to. You walk to a nice bar/restaurant and are greeted very nicely. It really makes a big difference when you walk into a restaurant and they're happy to see you. We sat in a sectioned off area in the room in the back and had about 25 people. It is a wonderful setting with a lot of electricity in the air. Being part of a group makes a little bit easier as the menus already picked out. I went with the Chicken Cutlet Parm with vodka sauce and pasta. This was delicious. The chicken was thin and tender with a great crunch. Sauce was excellent and the pasta was perfectly cooked. We had a very attentive server who managed to get our entire order before a meeting gets started everything is served quickly which allows us to be able to relax for a while. It sounds like simple thing but it takes a lot of work and River Mill did it very well. Let's not forget that River Mill is a also a wonderful bar that is managed well with great selections of draft beers and plenty of specially cocktails. It's good to sit back and see so many people having a good time. Lots of regulars here. I've been wanting to try Rivermill for years and finally went for a family event on a Sunday. The food was really good! - I got the buffalo chicken flatbread, which was very good! Crispy flatbread, with decent portions of cheesy buffalo chicken on top. My sister said the burger was great too. We had a pretzel appetizer that came with pizza dip, which was good and a little different than the cheese sauce you'd normally get. The Cookie platter dessert was also delicious. - If you like cocktails, the Frozen Sangria is a must in my book! So fresh and Not overly sweet. Absolutely delicious! - We were about 15 people and had made a reservation. I was pleasantly surprised at how great the service was even with such a big group! They checked on us often, brought food and drinks quickly, and accommodated all our requests. - They had seating in a patio area outback, which was half covered by an awning. I just left River Mill on Sunday 4/26 At 5:30. Sat at the bar for a few minutes - no bartender. She was waiting tables in the bar area. Finally asked me for my order and I told her. I stayed 7-8 minutes and later she came behind the bar and took some drink orders that printed out of the computer. Bartender started to fill those orders and ignored me. Never got a drink. 9-21-24 I visited a few weeks ago for brunch. Thought the food was excellent and the service top notch. Very clean, relaxed and casual atmosphere. The brunch (which I was told is on weekends only), was served buffet style. I also saw a few other dishes coming out of the kitchen which looked fantastic. I had a conversation with a few other diners near me who were locals and mentioned they eat there quite often. My first time back for lunch at the River Mill since the pandemic. They added/upgraded their backyard patio which is very lovely and when we are not in the middle of a heat wave I will check it out! I had the mahi-mahi tacos special which was delicious. It came with three tacos - I ate two and brought one home but ate it as soon as I got in the door bc it was too good to wait for dinner. My friend got the waygu steak sandwich and she said it had a wonderful seasoned flavor. She brought half of hers home - I'll have to see if she was able to hold off until dinner to eat it! The food is delicious and the portions are gigantic. 2 items not to be missed: the whipped honey ricotta served with pita bread and the funnel cake fries served with chocolate sauce. It was wonderful! We have been coming here for brunch and dinner. The food is consistently good. Sometimes, they are too salty and heavy for me, but they make lovely seafood. Hire New Wait Staff!! Out for a pre Mother's Day Dinner and we show up Minutes early for reservation and there are many tables open but they put us near bathroom. We then hostess to move us and she complained that we asked to move us. At new table we sit and wait 15 minutes for waitress who comes without menus. We place our drink order and mozzarella sticks order and again wait 20 minutes for drinks but she drops straws but we finally get our menus. 15 minutes later she returns with our straws. We place order -- I ask for burger medium well and waitress says it's either medium or well, we can't do both ways so I get well. She's asks what do you want on it and I say plain burger on a bun and fries. Husband then ask for burger well done and waitress says you both want the same thing? Why does she care!! Then she couldn't understand that he wanted his burger without cheese and no onions but everything else. What's so hard about that. We sit another 20 minutes and ask for status of mozzarella sticks and she says what this about mozzarella sticks! Waitress said she never heard the order!! You cans still have them but it will come after burgers!! Who would want that! No apologies just said didn't hear order. All in all a terrible Mother's Day Dinner. Staff was too busy hanging in bar talking to each other and just hanging out not working. Only saw bus people hussling. More time should be spent in restaurant side taking care of customers! Now we know why restaurant was half empty when we arrived and it never filled up in the hour we sat there. This staff should work in a diner and learn how to take orders and care for customers. Decided to try River Mill for brunch on a Sunday. Called in an hour before and was able to secure a table for 2 as the place was very busy. I ordered the eggs benedict which at first glance looked good- however they put 2 very very over cooked eggs that looked boiled not poached on it. A poached egg is supposed to have soft white and a runny yolk. I told the waitress who just looked at me puzzled and basically just said oh those are poached. Didn't offer to remake them, or literally anything. Just said that what I was saying was wrong and walked away. My girlfriend got the hash with pulled pork, which tasted pretty good but was basically mush. The potatoes weren't crispy which you would expect. Overall a less than great experience and I won't go back. read more
