We had read a lot of positive reviews about Selita's on Yelp and had also seen quite a few advertisements and specials for the restaurant on Facebook, so we decided to finally give it a try. Unfortunately, Selita's failed with the first impression. We walked past a very small bar and into the dining room, which had a musty smell. The green walls, red leather tufted seats, and mirrors on the walls gave the place a very dated, old-fashioned feel. Since it was our first time there, we decided to play it safe and just order a couple of appetizers. We had the grilled octopus and the eggplant Parmigiana. The eggplant Parmigiana was tasty, but we would not consider it an authentic Italian dish. The grilled octopus, on the other hand, was a completely different story. It was incredibly tough and chewy - honestly, it was like eating a garden hose. It really seemed as though it had been cooked ahead of time and then reheated. When we left, my wife looked at me and said, "We're never coming back here again." Unfortunately, I had to agree. That's really a shame because we genuinely wanted to like Selita's. It's close to home, and we were hoping to find a new local favorite. Unfortunately, that was not the case. I suppose that's the chance you take when trying a new restaurant. I was at Selitas again this weekend with my other. We had such a good time. The music was great Saturday night. They had some sort of popular dance music on. Regardless, we had some summer drinks that were offered on a summer drink menu. We loved all seven of the drinks. I had the watermelon, basil smash, and the blackberry basil. Margarita, fantastic drinks. We sat at the bar for drinks initially, but decided to stay for dinner because the bartender was out of his mind. What a great Server... and without a doubt he is a great drink Maker. For dinner we had the beef aroncino (rice ball) special, the Mediterranean salad and the grilled Octopus as starters. All 3 apps were delish. The entrees were full of flavor and cooked perfectly to the correctly ordered temps. The ribeye steak was amazing and the grilled pork chop special, served with garlic mash potatoes and grill asparigus was just as good. Jonathan made us the perfect cappuccinos as well as recommended two desserts for us the triple chocolate mousse cake and the pistachio ricotta cake. Just like his drinks those desserts were right on point. We couldn't have been happier with tonight selection we were supposed to go somewhere else and the plan fell through. Low and behold, we wound up at Selitas and let me tell you next time the plans will be at Selita's because the food, service, atmosphere, music, and the clientele that seem to be regulars at the bar... The tofu crab cakes and other vegan plates are packed with flavor and creativity. It's clear the kitchen puts a lot of heart into every dish. And then there's the bar. Deanna is more than just the woman behind it. She brings soul and energy to the entire space. Her espresso martinis and margaritas are my go-tos, always mixed perfectly. But it's her warm smile and genuine hospitality that keep me coming back time and time again. She's truly a highlight of the experience at Selita's. The owner and staff as a whole are amazing. You can feel the pride and care in how they treat their guests. After reading lots of reviews about vegan options, and seeing the clearly marked vegan options on the menu I was really excited to try this place. It was so promising and seemed like a great option for families or friends where vegan and non-vegan options are necessary. Upon being seated i informed our server that 2 (out of 3) of us were vegan, did they have a separate vegan menu I was told the vegan options were marked with a v on their general menu. I ordered citrus salad. It came covered in cheese, I asked if it was vegan cheese and told no, its cheese AND theres milk in the dressing. Not vegan. I asked for the vegan calamari (some reviewers mentioned how great the vegan calamari was)... turns out its not vegan. Its calamari. Not mushrooms. ​ if someone is vegan or allergic to fish or dairy, you cannot trust that the vegan items are vegan. Its really disappointing , there was so much potential. read more

Such an amazing restaurant! They have a full vegan menu as well as a regular one. I got the vegan linguine with oyster mushrooms and it tasted so delicious. Their drinks are good too, and the staff is so friendly and nice. The owner (I'm assuming) is so sweet and was willing to make any dietary changes. Will be dining here again for sure! read more

I had a taste for grilled octopus but I didn't want to drive too far to my usual fave- Limani. I searched online and came across this restaurant. The ambiance was nice and quaint. My waitress was very sweet and attentive. The grilled octopus was amazing. Honestly, maybe better than Limani and they add capers, which I love. I also had the branzino. It was served filleted with cut cherry tomatoes. The sweetest thing was that I had forgotten something in the restaurant when I left and my waitress came outside to bring it to me. Had dinner at Selita's and was very pleased. It's an Italian restaurant that also has a Vegan menu. The food was excellent and the portions were a good size. There was also a large party there at the same time which did not affect our service. When we arrived we were greeted with a smile which is unusual at times. Our server was friendly and professional and made excellent recommendations. The restaurant was beautifully decorated and very comfortable. All the food was delicious and there are a few dishes on the menu I want to go back and try. Based on our experience I would highly recommend Selita's. read more

The food looked amazing, but I never got to try it because my order was forgotten. I had to flag down the waitress just to place my order, which then took another hour to arrive. I ended up taking it to go. While my missing order was an honest mistake, the people I was with ordered the seafood combo with white wine sauce, but it was served with a red sauce. When they pointed it out, the dish was taken back, and within 10 minutes, it was returned as a "white wine sauce" version--except it had clearly been rinsed with water and had sliced garlic added, with no oil or proper preparation. Completely unacceptable. When the Italian guest in our group pointed out the issue, the restaurant apologized but did not offer a refund. She didn't even eat the dish. I came across the website of this restaurant and noticed that they have some vegan options. My friend and I we went here on a Sunday night and it was not crowded which was great. I realized that this was once owned by a different owner of a Italian vegan restaurant (so glad the previous place closed down). The new owners had made some upgrades to the restaurant which looked very nice, warm, cozy. Anyhow, I ordered the lemon garlic quinoa, salad, and the vegetable Panini in vegan version and it was so delicious. My friend ordered a salmon entrée and the citrus salad. The way there Lorenzo was very nice and we actually met the owner who was very pleasant as well. For dessert, my friend and I had the banana coconut cake, which was OK. I just wish that the cake was a larger portion for the price. I hope that they have additional vegan option desserts in the future, but I will still come back for their savory meals. read more

Not really sure how this place has 5 stars considering that we were the only table at the restaurant on a Saturday night and there were so many things that went wrong! To begin, I had to ask for my drink 3 different times and we had to ask to be told the specials. Specials should be told automatically and to everyone! Aren't the point of specials for higher sales? Then my friend and I had ordered the Sea Food Combo dish WITH WHITE SAUCE! When the food was ready, it came out with RED sauce not WHITE. The waitress immediately knew it was wrong and took it back. Then 5 minutes later the same dish came back out which seemed to have been maybe washed down with water because there was no flavor. When I think of white sauce I think of some sort of white wine with garlic at least. There was still chunks of tomato in both dishes. If we wanted red sauce, we would have asked for it. I did not complain to the kitchen nor expect my dish to be comped because the seafood was edible, but I was completely thrown off overall. Then, one member of the party never received her dish and was still charged for that dish on the bill. We had to ask them to remove it. Lastly, to the staff who works there: I know it was late and you all wanted to rush us out so you can go home, believe me I've been there, but when people are still eating, please ask if they are done before you resume to take plates away. You guys were rushing us as soon as we sat down, which was like 9pm. Your hours say you are open til 11pm, which usually means that the kitchen closes at 11pm and you are supposed to wait until your guests have finished their meal before you start cleaning off the tables. This place has a lot of potential and I know that staff and management can do much better. read more

Exceptional!! The most rare find. A vegan and regular diet catering for a king. Two separate menus! I went with a party of 10; every single one LOVED their choices. I randomly came across Selita's earlier tonight as I was browsing a map looking for dinner. Happened to be their opening night, decided to get an order to-go. baked clams and shrimp carbonara - both were excellent. the baked clams were incredibly fresh and very tasty. They are Don Peppe level. the carbonara was equally delicious. a generous helping of shrimp, a well balance and flavorful sauce, and nicely cooked pasta. Friendly staff as well. Loved our experience at Selita's. I didn't choose from the vegan menu, but the vegan menu is extensive and i'm certain i wouldn't have been disappointed. Atmosphere is quaint and reminiscent of a small, classy NYC restaurant. They started us off with a complimentary bruschetta for the table, which was delicious. The bread, which i ordinarily eschew, was warm and crusty and i'm glad i partook. I had the Black Truffle Burrata, which was served on a big block of salt and was huge for an appetizer. I went in hoping to eat "light", but the servings on every course were enormous. I shared my burrata with the table and there was still some left to take home. I then had the Spinach Gnocchi Pesto - again, a huge portion - which was fluffy and flavorful (only ate half). My wife had the vegan Eggplant Rollatini, which i tried and would have loved, had i ordered that. Vegan restaurants are few and far between on Long Island and Selita's is a local, neighborhood place for us - about 5 blocks from home - so we'll definitely be going back to support the local restauranteur. Dinner was great and my only real criticisms are as follows: as an avid foodie, I'm accustomed to paying more for smaller portions when the quality is superb. Looking at this place from a profitability perspective, I would make the portions smaller. I think they should be confident enough in their cuisine that they don't have to oversell it. I'm sure most Long Islanders would disagree with me and say more is better...... I would welcome a 5 or 6 course vegan tasting menu at this place to promote the quality and uniqueness. Get creative and reap the benefits. Also, it only just now occurred to me; there was no dessert menu. Might want to consider adding one or two simple choices for a dessert.
