I came here over the summer while visiting friends on the Island and am only now getting around to writing this. I ordered salmon and sweet potato fries, which you can skip, the salmon was a little over cooked and nothing to write home about. The boyfriend loved his burger, I think it came with caramelized onions and maybe blue or goat cheese. The apple pie with ice cream was on point. But forget all that. The thing that I still think about, the thing I tell people in the city about, is the epic, gigantic, fried appetizer sampler platter. You know when you see something that was just meant for you? Like someone made this with me in mind. I was so happy. You get like 6 mozzarella sticks, fried onion rings, fried zucchini sticks, and fried calamari. It comes with a white sauce I completely ignored- our waitress was extremely patient as I ordered not one, or two, but three sides of marinara, the third they finally brought out in a gravy boat like I had tried to convince them to do in the first place :P It's just so big and happy! The platter can easily fill three hungry people with large appetites, especially if you're also getting full entrees. I'm just a sucker for these samplers when they're done well, and this was excellent. Nicely seasoned batter that always adhered to the food it encased, the insides were not lava, they did not fall apart. The oil they used was fresh, the calamari tender. Is there a food challenge where I can try to eat one of these solo in a certain amount of time? If not there should be! read more

Roast beef sandwich with au jus was excellent. Pasta with shrimp was tasty and bold. Half lettuce wedge salad was the size of an entree. Chicken with pasta was the only thing that did not make the cut. The pasta was a bit salty and the chicken was dry. Overall, a good experience and we will be back. read more

Came with my cousin and niece today. Immediately when I parked and saw the facade, I knew what the vibe would be and when I walked inside I was totally right. This is the neighborhood place where everyone at the bar knows each other and you can tell they come here all the time and I love that. Deb was our waitress and she was wonderful!! We had a reservation, but placed was packed so we had to wait past our reservation time, BUT, both the bartender and Owner/Host -?(Mark) were very attentive while we had to wait. When you sit down @ your table they serve complimentary Chips w/minced Chop meat & onion, absolutely delicious. We ordered a Caesar's salad to split and something about the dressing that made it not right. It was tangy and too creamy, I don't recommend it. For dinner we ordered the Filet Mignon tidbits and Chicken tidbits. The Filet Mignon tidbits were cooked PERFECT, excellent dish. The Chicken tidbits were very good, but once you bite into the Filet Mignon tidbits, you forget about the Chicken tidbits, Ha! Great waitress which is SO IMPORTANT. Wonderful local spot for great food and drinks! My friend and I came for dinner and drinks before seeing a friend play in a band here. The drinks were strong and perfect. There was a bit of a wait for our table and the bar was super crowded but every was so nice and friendly so it was all good! When we did sit down we ordered the pretzel appetizer and it was so good!! The cheese sauce was spicy but the perfect kind of spicy and the mustard sauce tasted like a cross between mustard and ranch and it was great!! For dinner my friend and I split the chicken tidbits sandwich and the French onion soup burger. The chicken sandwich was great, but, the burger was UNBELIEVABLE! It was perfectly cooked, smothered in cheese and the onions were caramelized and full of flavor. Right then and there we made plans to come back again so we could each have our own. I really love this place (reminiscent of one of my other favorite local spots- Corner Galley in Massapequa) and the only reason it's 4 starts instead of 5 is because the service was pretty awful. Now, it was insanely crowded and it looked like they were understaffed so I understand, but every time we needed something we had to flag her down. She never bothered to come check on us. It took a good 30 minutes from getting our appetizer until we were able to get her attention to even just order our dinner. This place is a 10 out of 10. The ambience is magical, the food is out of this world, and the people/service are great. Waited a long while to order. People that came in after us ordered and received their food before us. We think they just didn't know who was working our table. We have been there many times and never had this problem before. The special on Saturday night is the prime rib which we have ordered many times. We ordered medium rare with horseradish sauce, rice and creamed spinach. Finally when it came out it was burnt and well done. I never return food at restaurants, but this was so well done and we ordered medium rare. When I told the waitress that they were well done, she snapped at me and said well I didn't cook it. I said I know you didn't cook it but it's still well done and we ordered medium rare. She took it back and a while later brought us our medium rare prime ribs, but did not bring the vegetables and the rice and the horseradish sauce. By the time all the order came to the table, the steak was cold and it was tough. I'm disappointed because we usually like the prime rib there and the service, but we won't be going back for a while. All I ask is that when you have regular customers that come in often admit when you make a mistake and do not be rude. read more

Great food and atmosphere! Definitely a neighborhood restaurant where everybody knows each other! Drinks were made to perfection and the food was really fantastic! My friend and I had the chicken tidbits with waffle fries and the french onion burger. The burger was really the shining star of the meal! We started off with a giant pretzel and the cheese sauce was awesome and spicy! Definitely make reservations if you're coming on a Friday or Saturday. We had to wait about 25 minutes for a table without a reservation. My one tiny complaint would be the service. Not the fastest service and very understaffed for a Saturday night. The waitresses and hostesses were super friendly and nice though so we will definitely be back!! read more

I don't know if they were having an off night or they have a new chef, but last night the food was tasteless. We shared the chateaubriand for two...flavorless, meat was in brown flavorless liquid, usually served with onion rings, not last night, usually served with creamed spinach...not last night. I had to use salt just to taste something..the complimentary salad sat in the fridge prepared for days, wanted blue cheese dressing, got ranch. We ordered dessert. The worst apple pie I ever had. The crust was raw, it was like apples on paste. Perhaps it was an off night, but with the price of food lately, I won't be back. I saw many new faces and the pretty blonde owner was not there. I assume new owners. I wish them luck, but someone should taste the food before serving. read more

The place you always pass. The place you say,"I need to get there". The place you always forget about. Now, you need to remember it. Stop in. Try it. Had a wonderful dinner with my wife last evening. There is a certain charm to this long time Lynbrook Long Island mainstay. The staff? Friendly. Accommodating. Atmosphere? Older world, charming and warm. The food? Really tasty pub fare with interesting additional items. Burgers, unique salads, along with chateaubriand for two, and nightly specials; last night it was crab cakes. Didn't make it to dessert. Large dining room, and booths in the bar area and a party room adjacent to the bar. Spotless environment. Glad I remembered this place last night. read more

My MIL recommended a restaurant. Now... knowing my MIL, who gripes about the high prices of eating out and is a HUGE advocate for cooking food at home... if she recommends a place to eat out, you better believe it's probably a DAMN GOOD DEAL!!! In this case, she is true to her form!!! Okay, so the taste of the food didn't WOW me, but for the price and the amount of food I got, it was a very VERY good deal!!! For just under $13, I got myself a cup of soup, salad, the entree (which comes with some sort of starch (in the case of the pot roast I ordered, I got pasta along with it.) dessert of the day and coffee. Hubby bragged about how we could eat a nice decent meal for under $50. Since it's a very short drive from my MIL's home, we will probably be back when we're visiting Long Island again!!! :) read more

This place is very Americana. Irish, German, Italian food with substantial portions. We like the intimacy of the booths. It's a little like Ireland. We went for Valentines Day and had fun with entrees that cost $20 dollars with soup/salad, glass of wine, and entree. This place is known for its steak special for $16.95. Its really hit or miss at Maiers. Some nights are steaks have been wonderful, others its a matter of slicing thru the fattest piece of meat you have ever seen. On our last outing they sat us in the back near the kitchen and there were a TON of fruit flies at our table, YUCK!! Dont know if we will go back. read more

We ate at the Brick Cafe for dinner last evening. The restaurant is so cozy! Beautifully decorated for the holidays. We first stopped at the bar for cocktails.The bartender was very nice - made a specialty drink for my husband that he said was excellent - my glass of wine was fine - we then moved to a booth to have dinner - our waitress was lovely- efficient. She brought complimentary chips and chili - a nice surprise! I had a burger with fries and all the accompaniments . My husband had the shrimp basket and fries. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meal. I went to the establishment last night with a couple of friends and the food was horrible. why? we got backed clams that were still partially frozen, and the potato skins were burnt and tasteless. the highlight of the dinner was for 13.00 a pretzel lol and we had some dips to go with it. will i recommend this place, probably not, but the chef should do something with those clams they were really bad. the service was friendly and nice . sorry. read more

I've been there a half dozen times since I first reviewed this back in January 2015. Pretty sure I won't be back. Ate there Tuesday night and the service was pathetic. The place was a little busy, but not so busy as to ignore diners. We waited over a half hour for appetizers, and even longer for our meals. Requested creamed spinach and received mixed veggies. commented on it and waitress took away the mixed veggies to be replaced by nothing. Not sure what the calamari tasted like, but certainly didn't taste like calamari. Steak was mediocre, if that. If they can't handle a Tuesday, I shutter to think what service would be like on a weekend. read more

OK, I have been hearing advertisements for Maiers Brick Cafe for sometime on local radio. I finally decided to try the place. They are located in Lynbrook NY. I ordered Chicken Karin, my wife ordered Chicken Schnitzel both dishes were really good. Included with each dish was soup or salad, we chose the soup, it was excellent a very hardy beef barley soup, had to be homemade. The restaurant itself harkens back to the days of local bars serving good food. While sitting there I expected Archie and Edith to stop by. The wait staff was attentative and friendly, the prices for the food fair. The owner a very lovely women, came over and welcomed us, how nice! We ordered two diet cokes, they were from the tap, I wasn't sure if the drinks were coke or RC Cola. I felt 2.50 for an 8oz Diet Coke was pricey, but that was really my only concern. In short, the food was good, the prices fair and the staff really friendly. What more can you ask for? One suggestion, they should put Chicken Parmigiana on the menu. read more

Had a nice ice cold glass of pino and chatted it up with some friendly locals. I also love the fresh new look, so bright and cheery. Wow!
