Today I was extremely disappointed with the food that my friends and me ordered. I was in this restaurant so many times and even my friends from Manhattan asked me: hey please take us again to this place. And so many times I recommended this place. So did I today and it was a fiasco. I always ordered Avocado salad and this time it was crazy amount of lettuce inside and it gave such a bitter flavour to a salad... And where was avocado?? No cilantro? Never happened before. Manty were stuffed with onion, and half of teaspoon of meat. What happened with this place? I prommise I will update my review to a 5-star review when I will eat my favourite salad with its previous ingredients! read more

I'm originally from Uzbekistan and now live in LA. I haven't tried other Uzbek restaurants in NY, but Nargis Cafe exceeded my expectations! I could vouch that the food is very close tasting to what it should taste like in authentic restaurants. Shurpa was very tasty and Kabobs had that taste that no other Kabobs have. Original and unique marinate that you can taste in every bite. I wish we had an authentic Uzbek cuisine in LA. read more

Excellent food and service! Authentic uzbeki mid eastern menu and taste. Outdoor seating avail during COVID.

This is definitely my favorite Mediterranean restaurant in the area. With a lot of competition around, they easily beat out the rest. The service and food is always consistent! Waiters are attentive and professional. The kebabs are outstanding!! I have tried every kebab they offer (chicken, beef, lamb etc) and they are all so flavorful and juicy, you can't go wrong. I have been here many times and everything I have tried from the salads (nargis salad is my fav), to the babaganoush & hummus served with fresh warm bread, all the different kebabs, the truffle fries, and desserts- everything is always so so good! I didn't give 5 starts because unfortunately the hostess is always rude and makes you feel like you are bothering her, but the rest of the staff is wonderful! read more

I love Nargis! their food is amazing, their service is great and its a really nice place. the only negative, Its small, therefore everyone is on top of each other. Thats the only reason I didnt give them 5 starts. They did expend and now they have banquets. There are always people there therefore you will be on top of each other no matter what. Its an uzbek food, as far as I understand! you must go there at least once, and you will come back for more! Oh definitely order their Samsa with meat and soup with dumplings! read more

This place is definitely one of the best in Brooklyn! I've been ordering delivery from them for quite a while but decided to bring a group of friends to the restaurant after a long day at the beach. None of them had ever had this type of food before but I promised them it would be good. Even though it was a bit of a wait (we had no reservation and 8 people) it was well worth it. Every single dish was delicious and plentiful. We ordered a ton of different things but the real standouts are: Meat Cuchvara- These amazing little meat dumplings served with sour cream which are just out of this world. I could eat them every day. We ordered 3 servings and there were none left by the end of the night. Lamb Kebabs- One of my friends declared it was the most delicious lamb she had ever tasted, and I'd have to agree. The meat was so moist and tender and they definitely do not skimp out on the portions. Pickled Herring- Herring is not my favorite fish but this was delicious. It was cooked perfectly and the accompanying potatoes swimming in butter and dill were outstanding. I could go on and on about the food, but the service deserves mentioning as well. Our waitress was excellent and there is always someone by to get you anything you need. The manager/owner was really nice and welcoming. He came by multiple times to check on our table which made us feel very welcome, especially since none of use spoke Russian and were clearly out of place. I have already introduced 11 of my friends to this place and every one of them has agreed that it is terrific. Do yourself a favor and head out to Avenue Z! read more

I love this place, every time i am there i get a meat samsa with that spicy salsa like sauce, 2 kebabs and a nice pot of tea. Uzbek food when done right is better than "Modern American", French or Italian cuisine. read more

My rating for places that claim to specialize in Uzbek/Russian/Central Asian depends on the following factors - the appetizers, the manty, the samsa, and the kebabs. While popular, the food here seems too dietetic to impart the real flavor of the region. The salads are refreshing but not spectacular. Further, I don't think I am alone when I state a strong preference for lamb dishes that are dripping with lamb fat - they way they are SUPPOSED to be prepared. The meat should be juicy and flavorful. Unfortunately, the meat here was uncharacteristically dry and chewy. The plov, which I do not usually purchase as it is very difficult to prepare correctly, was predictably atrocious - dry rice, no flavor, rubbery meat. The saving grace of this establishment are the kebabs and if I had to return, I would easily forego the other dishes and simply order a big stack of kebabs. Fine cuts of meat, juicy, and served with slices of hot fat on the skewer in between the meat. If this place only served kebabs, I'd give it five stars without a second thought. Lastly, I'm not a stickler for service or atmosphere if the food is outstanding. However, this place is packed all the time on the weekends - and I mean PACKED. People are sandwiched in like sardines. The tables are so close together that you are constantly forced to stand up and shuffle around in order to permit the wait staff to sit customers at adjacent tables. Your table will shake. You will be bumped. You will feel rushed. As an aside, I rate Tandoori Food and Bakery in Rego Park, Queens, as the five star standard bearer for Uzbek/Russian cuisine as it should be and I would recommend a genuine comparison of these establishments to anyone interested in this type of cuisine. read more

Just got back from a meal at Nargis and HAD to write a review. First of all, the service was OUTSTANDING. Our waitress Sasha was just excellent. She was warm, friendly, attentive, genuine and helpful. This really made our entire experience wonderful. The rest of the staff appear to work very hard as well, courses come out quickly and accordingly. It's like they keep a really good watch on how you're doing because we were lingering with our appetizers for a while but the moment we were ready for entrees they magically appeared. This was also on a Monday night with the restaurant half full (impressive). They are very attentive. As soon as kebabs were removed from the skewers, someone would come along to take the skewers away. Now on to the food: We ordered quite a bit. Several salads, potatoes with mushrooms, fried liver - all excellent. Although I didn't try everything I can attest to the rest of the party loving everything. Entrees were plov, kebabs, french fries with garlic and herbs, sauteed veggies, and lots of lepeshka (bread). We also had the homemade compot (which is a fruit juice made from cooked fruit). EVERYTHING was delicious. It was fresh and the recipes excellent (the herbs in each dish were perfect). We finished the meal with some green tea which really helped settle the stomach after such a big meal. Overall, excellent service, great food, and the bill for 6 people only came out to $160. Like some other reviewer mentioned, the pop music really doesn't seem to go with the wonderful authentic Uzbek decor, but it wasn't loud or bothersome. Will be back again! Thank you! read more

I am in awe of this place! You have a beautiful walk at Brighton Beach and then you think of dinner date. So Nargis Cafe is the place to go! The area around Brighton Beach is a bit quiet with all small cafes around but this place is an exception. We enter this place and are warmly welcomed. The servers are very good with service. The authentic urbez food is Samsa and Manti which you should not miss on trying. I am a vegetarian and opted for Salad. I have never had such a tasty salad and the portion served is too much for one person. Also, try their breads which are home made. This place people from all cultures visiting and you feel so lively here. read more

I Have ordered delivery several times and loved the food, so decided to stop in. Just as expected the food was great .......... however the service was strange at best. We ordered apps to share and 3 main dishes. The 2 mains came and the third never arrived. 2 people were done with main course when we began asking wait staff as to what happened to the third main course. Our inquiries were met with lots of confusion but finally about 10 min later the dish arrived .... the WRONG dish. We were offered to wait for the originally ordered dish but the wait would be 20 min. Throughout the entire exchange the waiter mentioned twice that he would have to pay for the incorrectly ordered meal, making us feel very uncomfortable, although it was clearly his error. The water glasses were filled as we originally sat down and refilled after we were done with our meal. We did get one thing comped: tea - 20 oz of hot water and a few tea leaves. The bill arrived with built in 10% "service" charge. I have heard something about restaurants putting the tip into the bill so did not mind paying, HOWEVER then when the credit card slip was printed there was a section for a tip AGAIN (on top of the 10% added to the bill service charge) and that had suggested gratuity from 10% to 20%. Seriously? You want me to leave u more than 30% tip? Its too bad about the service, the food is pretty good :( Follow up after reply from restaurant; Boris, thank you for your reply. I think you may have misunderstood - the original delay was NOT caused by error in order. The main course for one of the diners was not served with the others and ONLY when everyone except that person finished their food and we inquired about the missing dish it was brought out BUT turned out to be the wrong dish. Then we had to wait another 20 min for the right dish to be prepared. We were there past friday the 5-th of August, late afternoon, maybe around 4 pm read more

Normally if you want great Uzbek cuisine you need to go to Queens but if you're in Brooklyn the best place is Nargiz Cafe without a doubt. Not only their dishes are perfectly prepared with exceptional seasoning and prompt timing but their service is unparalleled. You can tell that the training the staff receives is on point and systemized. We recently had dinner there with 12 people for my mother in laws' bday. She dropped a bday gift, envelop with cash, by accident and left. The waitress found it and gave it to the manager in case we return. She didn't have to, as there would be no way to prove that the envelop was misplaced at the restaurant. Great etiquette and culture among my their staff. As far as food, everything is great but if I can make a suggestion, calf liver, lamb shish kebab, plov and avocado salad. read more

It's a good place to chill and eat some good food. Fast and usually friendly service. Prices are reasonable. Definitely check out this spot. read more

Nargis Cafe is Street Meat with a dining room. Crowd sourced hype drove us here. After a huge schlep from the boardwalk we then were hit with a very long wait. Staff was efficient and pleasant and based on a peek at the cyber menu we had high hopes. Started with bread (extra charge) which was akin to stale matzoh and then a couple salads; radish and cuke (best thing we had) and slimy eggplant overloaded with garlic. Then things started to go downhill. The kebabs were cheap but small portions and of the lowest quality street meat. The seasonings are weak, the so called "chicken breast" was actually slimy thigh/skin/fat, the lamb tasted gamy, was full of fat and the beef tasted as though the animal could have pulled a carriage behind it and was recently retired from service in Central Park. Rice, bland cafeteria pilaf, also extra. Do NOT consider this "Cheap Eats" despite what the tourist mags have told ya. The portions are small, every single item is a la carte and the tab, exceeding $36 per person will then have a 10% service charge attached, which they fail to inform you of. The price point winds up at $$$. One more bit of advice. Be sure your trip home doesn't place you too far from toilet access. No kidding here. You're gonna need it. read more

Let my loss be your gain. Traveled over and hour and got extremely overpriced and bad quality food. Regret going there.

This place is not only 100% hype without substance but also run by some let's just say dishonest people from the greeters, waiters, and the owner. I arrived there today at 10:40 with my kid brother (I did not know that it closed at 11) However, I was told that only the kitchen closes at 11 and that I can stay until 12 as long as we could order in the next 5 minutes or so. Which we did. We were kicked out of the restaurant before being able to finish the meal. Furthermore, the waiter misled me several times regarding the prices (what he said and what was on the check were totally different) I asked for water, which is usually complementary and without telling me that it was extra, brought out bottled water. The uzbek break (also extra) was stale. And their "special soda" tastes like carbonated mouthwash. NEVER AGAIN! read more

A summer of eating at (predominantly) Russian / former Soviet restaurants has yielded two benefits: 1. I've gotten a better appreciation of MTV Russia (apparently channel guidelines count dark hair under diversity) 2. I've begun to order like a pro (excuse the, hopefully, rare immodesty) Now, it's possible that I didn't really concentrate on the color of the hair, or even the videos (which reminded me a lot of MTV in the 90s), but there's no mistaking the fact that a number of tables around me have taken cues on what to order. First the kindly old lady sitting diagonally across from me motioned towards the plate in front of me and beamed. Then the man next to her stared and called the waitress to point at the plate, now seven people on one table were staring in my direction before deciding (it was French Fries with spices and herbs, for heaven's sake!). Just as everyone had moved on, my entrée came in (oxtail with chickpeas). Now, the table to the left called the waitress and then the 4 people on THAT table started staring in my direction. Only yesterday when I had ordered the Chebureki, the table to my right (eating Samsas as appetizer) started whispering to each other... seriously, how difficult is it to be discreet? Why do people not care anymore?! It's not as if the restaurant's menu is any different from the vast majority of Uzbek restaurants in the city - you can get the regular Shurpa or Lagman as soups; Samsas, Manti, Khanum or Chuchvara as hot appetizers, Morkovcha and a few other salads; a dozen different kinds of Kebabs (Shashliki); Plov, Non, Kompot to drink - I can pretty much write up the menu in my sleep, it's that consistent! In terms of food quality at Nargis: I liked the Chebureki - very good texture and filling, goes well with the house tomato and herb sauce. The Lagman were ok, I got crushed peppers (and not Adjika) when I asked for spicy paste; Chuchvaras (fried dumplings with a potato filling) also had a nice soft texture but the potato filling was kind of bland; and I didn't think much of the Kebabs (hardly any cumin in the Lyulya), Non (crispy and chewy, but difficult to manage after 10 minutes), or Kompot drink. The highlight were the French Fries with herbs and spices, proving yet again that French Fries are the universal language of food - translating equally well across all cultures. The other thing which stays in my memory is that there were 4 bus boys and 3 waitresses, so service was courteous, attentive, prompt and extremely efficient. Credit for that goes to the owner/manager who keeps an eye on every table and on whether someone is waiting for the menu, food, or the bill. There was also an army of cooks in the kitchen, who've been kept busy at the odd times I've visited. I've never seen a restaurant this busy at 4:30 pm on a weekday. Some advice for the owner: that vinegar/oil mix that bathes the onions accompanying the skewers of Kebabs? Bottle it and market it as an appetite suppressant. Seriously - a lot more money to be made in that. I'm surprised no one's objected to the taste, or am I the only one who's eating onions and not expecting any social intimacy after the meal? Maybe those videos aren't that unrealistic afterall! read more

We went here with friends and were very disappointed. The atmosphere was just not what we expected. Owners are not able to run the business and cannot control the crowd. People smoking right at their tables (yes, it was outside, but still within the reach of NYC laws) and the restaurant staff and owners didn't care about it, that was a huge turn off. Maybe I shouldn't be so critical, maybe the owners just don't realized that its not Uzbekistan its America and that they can get closed down if people in their restaurant smoke. Also the owner is very rude and obnoxious ... Word of advise there plenty of better restaurants to go in the neighborhood ... read more
