Ordered $150 worth of food for me and my fellow coworkers in the hospital and received not 1 piece of bread! When called back was told to get the bread which is $3 each I also would have to order $15 worth total because that is the minimum delivery. Completely absurd and how greedy can an establishment be? Mind you we are 5 blocks away from this restaurant! The food I cannot lie is delicious but this has completely turned me and my coworkers off and will not ever order from them again! You lost customers today over $3 bread. read more

I've only ordered this through seamless and I love the food. I always get the shish kebab combo which comes with 2 kebabs of your choice, a salad, a side item, bread and a drink. The beef and chicken kebabs are always moist and tender. I always order the garlic and herb fries (lots of garlic in it)! They are the best fries ever! The spring salad is very refreshing. It's got fresh dill in it which I love. I will have to go to the restaurant one day. read more

This is definitely the best Uzbek restaurant in the area. Their cigar rolls are the best I have ever tried. First of all, they're large in portion size, and they are cheesy and garlicky. All of their kebabs are delicious; the salmon, chicken, and lula are my favorite. The shepherd's salad with feta is a must. I'm also a fan of their fries, they top it off with dill and garlic. If you're deciding on which soup to try here, go for the lagman soup, you won't be disappointed. read more

I was not very pleased or impressed with the food or the service. We were here for a business holiday party, it seemed like they just got not get it together. Also there was an incident with the hot tea. They put the teapot on a raiser and it tipped over, scolding hot water spilling all over my friends legs. The only thing I really did enjoy from that entire experience was the cappuccino. read more

The food here is absolutely amazing! I'm a true Russian Brooklynite and I have loved Uzbek food my whole life! This place does it right! The grilled eggplant salad is amazing. Get the traditional bread and plov for sure. The lula kebob, calf liver, and lamb are amazing! I also really like the salmon kebob! And of course, no Uzbek meal is complete without samsa (uzbek empanada) and manti (dim sum style dumplings), both of which are phenomenal here! The pumpkin samsa is my new favorite! My family comes here for Friday night dinners and we have had private banquet parties as well. I am trying to cut meat out of my diet, but I know I can find great veggie alternatives here. All the salads, pumpkin samsa, fish, and traditional bread is more than enough to fill you up, even if skipping the traditional meats. And last but not least, this place is CHEAP! You forget you are still in NYC! A must try! One caveat....do NOT expect traditional American waiter service or "warm and fuzzy" customer service of any kind. Russians and Bukharians are just different. They are not intentionally trying to be rude. Their top concern is the quality of the meal, not making you feel special. So, just keep an open mind and enjoy the yummy eats! Not 5 stars because there is ALWAYS a wait! They should buy out the neighboring businesses and expand. read more

Haven't been here in a while but will definitely visit again soon. This is a perfect place to go when you want to share a piece of your culture with someone else. read more

Nargis is our default place for good, cheap "home" food when we don't feel like actually cooking it. They also have the best shashlik in all of America (seriously, I've tried it all). It's always busy with locals and visiting Russian-speakers because the food is amazing, and so are the prices. I've started ordering to go because it's just faster than waiting outside for a table to open up on a Friday or Saturday night. Eating in is a great experience, especially if you're looking for a good old chaihanna to remind you of your childhood spent east of Western Europe. They even have Russian music videos to really get you in the mood, especially if you're stopping here before going out. If you're American looking for a place that serves awesome Central Asian/Russian cuisine, Nargis is a good place to go on a budget - but please don't walk in with high expectations for service. This can be said of all restaurants with a primarily Russian speaking staff and clientele - if you don't know this and are "disturbed" by the service, stay out of Brighton Beach/Sheepshead Bay altogether. The servers here are efficient and fast, and don't waste time on small talk and smiles - as it very well should be in my part of town. You are not going to be spending much money on food or a tip, and you will get your food hot, on time, and delicious. Expect no more and just enjoy it. If you want to pay inflated prices for over-the-top service, but for the same food, I suggest Mari Vanna or Samovar in Manhattan, where it's the norm to serve English speakers. If you speak Russian, utilize the language, and the wait staff will be friendly. Recommended for the experience and food. Not for much else. read more

I'm originally from Uzbekistan (now live in California) so I can judge :) I was in a business trip in NYC and decided to give it a try: food at Nargis is very-very good! I didn't even notice any difference! I invited my American co-worker to introduce her to Uzbek cuisine. When she tried Pumpkin manti, she got speechless: she said it was the best food she has ever tried :) really! Pumkin somsa was sooo juicy and good - yumm! The only thing why I give this place only four stars is music... The cafe Administration, attention please: weird popsa from Muztv is not acceptable in such place. We couldn't really relax because of no isy "rockish" sounds. I would prefer to listen to oriental lounge in this place. The server and hosts were kinda nice, but not very knowledgeable. When we asked a host if it's ok to park a car after 7pm in front of the cafe, they didn't have any clue. When I asked a server if their somsa is tandoor made, he said it's not and made such a face - like hinting me not to order it because it's bad... Thanks God, I decided to follow my own instincts :) and ordered it anyways. It was sooo good, even though not from tandoor. Overall great place! Highly recommend! read more

My family of 7 and I entered on a Sunday afternoon, and were immediately screamed at in Russian by who I assume was the hostess. We don't speak Russian so we were confused as to what was being said to us, but she kept screaming, "close the door, close the door". That left a poor first impression on us, but what made it worse is when she finally managed to speak in English, she said we wouldn't be able to be seated because we have no reservations. I would have been more understanding if she was kind, but the screaming and the attitude were completely uncalled for and unnecessary. We left immediately and will never be returning. read more

Nargis never disappoint. Best meat in he area. Hey have great dishes like plov. You can bring your own alcohol and you won't be charge extra

Just awful. I use to really like this place. I came here tonight for a friends birthday and we were treated like they were doing us a favor by letting us eat there. The food changed, just not good quality anymore and the service is complete garbage. Anytime we needed anything we had to ask 4 different people and wait at least 10 minutes for each request. We asked for water 3 times, for bread 2 times, and for sauce 4 times. One time we asked for our waitress and she came up to us and said "what?", that was the rudest a waitress has ever been to me. We paid for the check and waited 15 minutes to get our credit cards back. We asked for our food to go and we were told they threw it out by accident. For a party of 6 we got a lot of food to go and then all she could say was sorry. When we asked to speak to the manager she said ok and then came back with our food that she said they threw away. One of two things happened, she took it out of the garbage or she lied to us when she told us they threw it away. I don't want to know the truth and my friends and I will not be coming back. read more

My gosh delish!!!! The salads LUSHES!!! The shish kebabs DELISH!!! Servers amazing. Must go try everything you will not be disappointed. All four seasons never will be disappointed. read more

My favorite kebobs are from here and they have the best fries with seasoning. Consistent with food and portions are generous.

First time coming here and trying there Uzbek plov which was really good very delicious the lamb in the rice was very flavorful also tried there lamb kababs which was very good and there traditional Uzbek salad was good which is onions peppers and tomatoes with parsley and there Uzbek bread is good which is similar to Turkish bread I would definitely recommend this place to my friends and fellow yelpers read more

Ordered about 180$ worth of food and bottle of wine my fiance asked for a cup of water they refused saying they don't offer tap water you have to pay for bottled. I find this redicolous do your research most countries have laws against this. Ok tap water cost them money you say?? Research that too it comes to around a penny per gallon. They also charge for bread which is understandable but I won't be suprised if they start charging for napkins next read more

since im Tajik, I will always love this style of food. but this place is authentic, with great prices, great service and very good portions. everything is fresh, tasty, a bit heavy but its worth the stomach ache. I wish I could order the whole menu. and of course alcohol is welcome, this place is perfect to drink stuff your face and hang out with friends and family to talk bs, etc. read more

Uzbek food is good food. Went to this place with zero clue of what to expect. I read some yelp reviews and decided to try some of the suggested items. So to start. I got me some plav. It's some kind of rice dish with extremely tender chunks of lambs. After that I went to kebob heaven. This place has a panoply of kebobs. You can even get 2 lamb chops for like 8$. That's a sweet deal read more

I stumbled upon this restaurant when in Brooklyn via Yelp. I was looking for good quality Uzbek food. I really enjoyed the food here and ordered a variety of dishes. First of all, the meat quality and seasoning was great for the kabobs and you could taste the flame of the BBQ which was great. The bread was also very good Uzbek bread. I had the liver which I also thought was good. The place was packed but I was still seated quickly and it did not take a long time to bring the food. The hostess was quick and the service was good as well. I would recommend going back or coming by if you are in the area it is clear that this is one of the best restaurants in the neighborhood. read more

I was visiting NYC (from LA) over 2012 New Year, and I found this place on Yelp, I wish we had something in LA this good. Food was amazing, we came in 2 days in a row from Manhattan. Most amazing uzbek food i have had in the US read more

Really love their taste of food and multiple selections that really want you to spend all the money in your pocket!

Let me start from saying that we have been comming to this place for many years a had never was dissapointed. The stuff is always very welcoming, they know the menu, always come to check up on you and food is amazing! ALWAYS ALWAYS AND ALWAYS. Highly recommended for meat lovers read more

Best Uzbek food in BK. Great place to eat food. It is not a fancy restaurant, but I have no idea what is the other reviewer is talking about 14 sanitation violations. The only con is that it is rather small and it is ALWAYS packed. I came there 3 times with friends before, and the staff, by the way which is really nice, told us that we would need to wait 20-3o minutes before they could seat us. We were very hungry so we decided to go somewhere else. Last week went there on Sunday, it was packed as usual. I have told one of the girls that was working there that this is 4th time that we are coming and are leaving because you don't have enough tables. So she told me that she would set the table that looked like the staff were using to put menus and extra napkins on. It was very uncomfortable because we were very close to other table but it was good enough for us. The food is fantastic. We had somsa, manti, pilaf, 2 salads, 2 breads (nons), 2 pots of green tea, and the delicious home made "compot", which is a fruit drink. From were we were sitting we could see the kitchen well, It was not so old and dirty kitchen, it was very clean and nice, there were 6-7 people working there, and they were so busy, working so fast and hard. I will make sure I make reservations next time, but definitely going there again. I really hope that they expand, because the size is the issue right now. read more

I came to Nargiz with my family for the first time yesterday. I was so pleasantly surprised. I have been to most places that offer similar food in our area and thought that it will be the same like everywhere. I was wrong. It is so much better. We had such a fabulous time. Everything that we ordered was delicious. We were amazed by how good everything tasted. It was also very fresh and very nicely served. Another thing that I have to point out is the service we received. Other than the fact that the entire staff is nice and polite, there were about 6 or 7 different people that served us, and we were a table of 6 on a Thursday afternoon. We will definitely be back and I'm sure more than once. Thank you for such a lovely dining experience. read more

Super yummy and authentic Russian/Uzbec food. The service was superb.

This place used to be amazing when they just opened before the expansion. The prices went up by a significant amount unfortunately the food quality went down, they used to have good avocado salad and now it tastes like someone spilled club soda all over it. Even the kebobs used to be spectacular and now just ehh. Classic story of place expanding losing it's dedication to good food and raising prices. read more

Well, just can't write a review for this amazing place called Nargis. Very good and polite service was provided. At first was busy but host find the place for us in couple minutes or so. Tashkent and Navruz salads were banging like delicious salads I had ever eat. Juicy lamb shish kebab along with manti.... real Uzbek restaurant. Thanks for the such a great cusine...... read more

I've never had Russian food, so I was pretty excited. I went with a friend who ordered everything for our entire table. I believe she ordered the Achichuk (tomato and onion salad), the lagman (noodle soup), the manti (steamed meat dumplngs), and the lamb and beef kebabs. Everything was so good and packed with flavor. I really liked the salad and noodle soup, and the kebabs were so amazingly juicy. The bread they give you is nice and warm. It's not a light meal, be prepared to be stuffed with pure deliciousness. Oh and the servers are wonderful, your glass is never empty and your plates are cleared as soon as they are empty. I can't wait to go back again. read more

Such a great place! Its a home away from home :) I am really curious how come their manti and somsa are sooo juicy like in Uzbekistan?! Even achuchuk is very good like made of yusupovskie pomidori :) everything is very authentic and delicious! Our server was very polite and knowledgeable. Will come back again if I get a chance to come to NY in future. read more

My 1st Uzbeki experience, and I loved it. A friend brought me here, and we ordered a bit of everything. Plov, manti, salad w feta cheese, chicken and lamb kebabs, and poatoes w mushrooms and onions. Enough food for 4-5 people! I am not a salad person, more of a meat person, but that salad was DELICIOUS. cucumbers, onions, tomatoes, feta and fill and some typeof oil and vinegar dressing...perfect and refreshing. The manti were also just as good, and so was the plov since the lamb was fork tender. The lamb kebabs were better than the chicken, and the potatoes with mushrooms and onions ...thinking abt them makes my mouth water. That good. The space is a little cramped, and gets crowded but now I know why. Outdoor seating is nice on a summer day. Cant wait to go back! read more

Food was pretty good. Got the plav , the manti, and the fried thing that looked like an empanada. The plav was great, loved it. The manti was just ok I thought the meat inside was gamey. I thought it would of been like Turkish manti, but to my disappointment it wasn't. My mom liked it though. Great prices. Very Russian , they do speak English ! read more

There's isn't really any food except for Indian (my first love) and desserts that makes me smile/happy when I eat it. Except for this restaurant. This restaurant officially has a piece of my heart. Anything I've had from this restaurant (kompot, plov, sherpa, manti, samsa for example) has never disappointed me. I took my friend here and she loved it! Always great service as well, been to other Eastern European places that aren't as friendly. The first time I went to Nargi's was on Valentine's Day and the owner was bringing around 2 cute little pink cakes to all the tables in celebration; I was amazed. Owner seems pretty cool and is always well dressed (along with the rest of the waiters/waitresses) anytime I stop in. read more

The food is fantastic!!! I recommend this place any time of the week (although plan ahead because it does get busy). To get started they serve bread with butter. Appetizers: The babagaboush is so creamy, and just so perfectly seasoned with garlic. The dumplings are good- definitely try the meat dumpling (manti). Entree: The kebab, the lamb skewers are juicy, and well seasoned, come in hot and delicious. Great food! Service is a bit slow (takes a while to get a water refill for example) and disorganized. However I am willing to overlook that and come again because I hasn't found a better place serving babaganoush and lamb kebab!! read more

Came here last week for the 1st time. My other half told me this place is the best one in the area and...it was...it was so busy! Tue night around 7pm and it was packed with people and everybody seemed to be enjoying their food. We had the pickled hering, a roulade, ox tail with chickpeas...everything was delicious! I like the traditional decor and the service was more than on point! Food came out so quick and it was freshly made, it was amazing! read more

AMAZING!!! I went there for the first time a couple of months ago, and I can't get enough of this place!!!! BEST food I've eaten in years! The salads and the kebabs are to die for- everything is FRESH and well seasoned. It's always crowded, but it means that A- the food is great B- the food is fresh :) Loved the chicken kebabs- juicy and delicious, and the lulas are so yummy. The grilled whole fish was amazing, and the avocado salad is to die for. Wasn't too impressed with the pumpkin Samsa, but most people here seem to love it.. The food is great, abundant and the prices are affordable. run, don't walk! :) read more

What can I say - outstanding!! Of the 4 Uzbek restaurants I tried in New York so far and one in Los Angeles, this is the one I'm craving to come back to. This is the closest thing to the authentic Uzbek food which I've had since I've been in Uzbekistan. I've tried their lamb samsa; lamb, beef, veal liver kabobs; plov (lamb rice pilaf); muliple salads (including tashkent, nargis and achichuk) and jams (quince and sour cherry). It was all very delicious and the staff was very attentive and polite. The plov features all the essential ingredients including yellow peas, berberis, very tender lamb meat topped off with fresh green onions. The samsa is just as amazing and a very high praise goes toward it's fluffy yet crunchy pastry with no oozing fat. read more
