A nice little quaint sushi spot at the edge of Fell's Point. This place has a few tables with traditional Japanese seating to get you in the mood for delish sushi. The fish is very fresh and they have a nice selection of traditional and unique rolls. They always have weekly specials to keep things interesting. The udon noodle soup was pretty good, flavorful and not overly salty. Makes a great dish to share between two people. The rolls are moderately priced and with a Groupon ($45 for $25) this makes for an extremely affordable dinner. The staff is very attentive and polite. A cute place in a prime location. The staff were really accommodating of our large group. We ordered two of the sushi boat B, which was a surprisingly large selection of nigiri, sashimi, and some other items on the side (some poke, seaweed salad, etc). One of the types of nigiri (fatty tuna, I think) had an incredibly strong fishy aftertaste that made me think it wasn't the freshest -- however, all of the other items in the boat were great, especially the white fish prepared with the seared skin. read more

I love the sunken booths they have near the windows - as does everyone else - these are usually always taken! I can't speak to the other menu items since this is always what we stick to! There is often an great Groupon deal available for this place, and we have never had an issue using it as I saw other reviewers mention (though, I will note we have only ever used one coupon at a time). I went and got about 5 rolls with my boyfriend. I got a unique one called the Chesapeake, which had crab meat, cream cheese, and Old Bay on top. They were very good. Another deep fried roll was extremely tasty. The prices were reasonable, the service was good. The restaurant had a bit of clutter in the foyer of he front door. Maybe it is for outdoor seating? I finally got to sit at one of those japanese tables by the windows, but it turned out to not be the best idea because we had to take our shoes off and it was cold outside. This is my favorite sushi place in all of Baltimore. The sushi is delicious, relatively inexpensive (for sushi), and decently-sized. I can't stand the places that charge you $17 for rolls that have very little in them and are tiny. This is never the case here. My boyfriend's Dad began with an order of uni (sea urchin), and he said it was the freshest and most delicious uni he has ever tried. (But be careful! It was $30 a pop as we later found out!) For dinner we split the Amy, Love, Oscar, and a special roll. And as with any visit of ours, of course we ordered the Flaming Dragon. This is far and away the best sushi roll I have ever had. Yum!!! So many times I am in fells and say... What do i feel like today?? Sushi! And guess where I go... Over the years the quality has remained consistent here. Everything that I have ordered has been on point. From udon to sushi rolls. And more sushi rolls. It always amazes me that chefs are able to come up with so many different variations of rolls! Rainbow roll is a go to. The yummy roll with the craw fish on it... I was skeptical at first... But surprisingly it was really good. Eh, should've known. Then tried the Amy roll. Very nice. I've been here a couple times, once for miso soup when I wasn't feeling well and yesterday for some sushi. I work in the area and was on my lunch hour so I walked over and since I was alone, I sat at the sushi bar. I was immediately greeted by one of the sushi chefs and handed a menu and ordered a drink. I looked over the menu and I was really hungry so I decided the best choice was to go for the lunch specials. I gave my order to the sushi chef: sushi assortment of five pieces of fresh nigiri with a California roll ($7.95) and the choice of three rolls ($11.95). For my choice of three rolls, I went with two spicy tuna rolls and a salmon-asparagus roll. He looked at me and asked if this was to go and when I told him it was just for me he said "That is a lot of food, are you sure you can eat all of that?" I told him that I like sushi. :) A waitress brought me miso soup and salad that came with my order and a short time after that, the sushi chef handed me two large plates full of sushi. The rolls were large (8 pieces per roll) and served with plenty of wasabi. The fish in the five nigiri rolls was so fresh and delicious as were the other four rolls that I had. I ate all the sushi that was given to me and the chef was impressed. If I was not restricted to my one hour for lunch, I could have easily ate more! The sushi was good and I will definitely be back again. Next time I won't come alone so I can enjoy sitting at one of the cool tables on the floor with a view of the water. read more

I love Nanami Cafe. This is my go-to Sushi place given that I work in the Fells Point area, and the restaurant is just a couple blocks away from work. I am particularly interested in the low cost Lunch Menu option Nanami offers. For instance, today I grabbed a miso soup, house salad, a yam roll and a salmon asparagus roll for ~$10! Their sushi is also very good quality and yummy, and the price of it is very difficult to beat. I tend to treat myself to Nanami when I crave sushi, and sometimes I walk to their premise and enjoy my cup of miso soup with a fantastic view of the Sagamore and part of the Baltimore Harbor. Go Nanami! I've also had very positive experiences when I order for pick up, and they are very flexible in packing Gluten Free soy-sauce and all utensils and essentials to enjoy a good sushi meal while in the office. I also enjoy to take colleagues and friends when they come visit, and Nanami never disappoints. Servers are really nice, and you can tell they really value their business and enjoy serving others. Nanami Cafe is one of the best underrated gems in Baltimore. It's easy to overlook as it's tucked in a corner of Fells point, but i am so glad I gave this spot a try. I frequent here and it does not fail to impress in the past 4 years that I've discovered the place! I recommend the salmon and yellowfin appetizers if you want more bang for your buck. They offer uni and fatty pieces (toro, salmon, etc) which are hard to find in most sushi restaurants. They are high quality for the price you pay. Choosing 1-3 sushi rolls for your order can get overwhelming, but I haven't tried one that was bad. If anything, maybe 1-2 rolls were slightly underwhelming if you're a sushi connoisseur, but everything still tasted great. If you are just getting into sushi, You should try the crunch roll or any of the fatty sashimi pieces! They even have hamachi cheekbone, which is indicative of an authentic Japanese place. Like Chiyo is my uptown sushi spot, Nanami Cafe is my downtown go-to. It's located on the water in Fells Point and everything is so fresh. My girlfriend and I recently went for dinner and were just blown away with each bite. We started the meal with one of my favorites, the Sashimi Roll. It's fresh salmon wrapped in cucumber with avocado and a creamy wasabi sauce on top. It has a slight bit of heat and the cucumber just makes this roll feel super light. I love it. We also ordered the Josh Roll - I don't know who Josh is but I love him. The combination of yellowtail and cucumber topped with avocado and hot sauce gets me every time. I always order this roll. We also ordered the Lee Roll and the Mark Roll which were both tasty. Seriously, you can't go wrong with any of the rolls here. Because the fish is so fresh at Nanami, I can't leave without an order of the Salmon Sashimi. It's melt in your mouth good and always my favorite part of the meal. read more

I've worked in Fells Point for over 2 years, and I'm ashamed to say I've never been here until now?? The sushi here is on point - everything is super fresh, and the ratio of fish to rice makes me super happy. :3 Came here at noon on a Saturday (right when they opened for the day), so we were pretty much the first group there! It filled up nicely with a few more groups as we were dining. Nanami is small, with a bit of the "hole in the wall" look; small bar area and mostly tables that were good for groups of 2-4. I came as part of a group of 7, and we sat against the back wall with a few tables put together. The decor is simplistic - traditional Japanese art and cute maneki nekos. Part of our group arrived a bit late, so we decided to order in 2 batches...we probably got about 10 rolls/items in total (mostly from the a la carte menu), and one person decided to pick from their entree menu (if you're not super into seafood or don't want to go for traditional rolls, there's options!). Everything was pretty good, but here are some of my faves: -Tuna Carpaccio (from the appetizers): thinly sliced tuna which was super tender and delightfully seasoned with pepper - highlight of the menu for me! -Salmon (Avocado) Roll - simple but tasty - salmon was fresh and melt in your mouth! Plus the chunks of fish were large relative to the amount of rice! Poke Roll - reminiscent of a standard poke bowl - you get extra large chunks of spicy marinated tuna goodness sitting atop a cucumber and avocado roll. Get in my belly, yo. -Sashimi Roll: salmona wrapped in cucumber slices, paired with a delightful wasabi sauce. To be honest, I'm not a huge fan of wasabi...I love spicy, but not a "burn a tunnel up my noise spicy". However, this sauce has a mayo base and the perfect amount of kick without being too overpowering. Each roll was under 10, and we ended up paying ~$18/person. The casual ambience is perfect for the Fells Point area. The edamame is a bit under salted for my tastes but cooked well. The house salad is better than many sushi places in the city. The sushi and nigiri are well prepared and flavorful. The fish has been high quality every time I've been here and the rice is tasty... Just the right amount of sushi vinegar for that balance of sweet and tangy flavor. So I immediately wanted to know what options they had for cooked sushi, since the main ordering form didn't specify and our table was ordering. But I couldn't seem to make eye contact with ANY of the servers. I tried raising my hand, turning around half-body, and gaping with googly puppy eyes--but all that to no avail. Astonishing given that there were at least 3 servers in a very SMALL cafe and we were one of only 3 tables. A woman finally came over and when I asked her, she said something to the effect of "yea, we have some cooked rolls, check the form." I wanted recommendations, dammit!!! Right after I put in my order of California roll & dragon roll (booooring), I looked at the back of the restaurant menu and saw a part that indicated "COOKED" rolls. It was just one word in the corner but several cool pictures of rolls. I didn't want to hold up the others so I just went with my orders but it was kind of odd to me that when asked specifically for a selection of cooked rolls, the woman couldn't even point me to the pictures which actually looked pretty interesting. I would've loved to try those. Too late. That said, the sushi was fresh, and all were happy. Prices were pretty decent. Meh...Maybe the high reviews are from the lack of sushi options in the area? I don't get what the hype is all about. I wasn't that impressed. I got 3 rolls to share, and none of them were memorable. They try to make it "creative", but it ended up coming off from bizarre to lack luster. One of the rolls had roe on the outside. Translation: after they cut up the rolls, they sprinkled three pieces of roe onto each piece of sushi, some of which rolled off in the process. Another was "spicy" -- by that, they just squirted a dollop of what tasted like sriracha to each piece after it was cut and laid flat. It was a bit odd. I would have preferred that they try to incorporate the chili sauce into the roll more. Fish seemed of fine quality. Prices are reasonable, but portions are also small, so I seems in line with the price. They weren't that busy for a Monday afternoon, so I appreciated that they were pretty attentive, and kept coming by to top up our waters. read more

Ambience - The restaurant is sparsely decorated, but it is one of my favorite sushi dining environments due to their attempts of recreating Japanese dining tables - guests can sit on a long bench on cushions while enjoying the nice window view of Fells Point outside. Service - Every time that I have been here, the restaurant hasn't been too crowded, making for very fast service. I usually wait for no more than 10-15 minutes for the first rolls to come rolling out. Food - Similar to most sushi restaurants, the entrees are made to order. Each bite of sushi is fresh and flavorful. The sushi menu is varied, ranging from traditional California rolls to specialty rolls for the more adventurous. We tried two specialty rolls, the love roll and the crispy roll, both of which were so good that I would definitely order them again the next time that I am there. The crispy roll is especially worth the money, considering it was topped with a mountain of crispy fried ebi (shrimp). Also, the sashimi is as good as sashimi can get. We ordered a platter of sashimi, which included tuna, yellow tail, rockfish, "white tuna", and salmon. The salmon and white tuna were the stars of the platter, but the others were pretty tasty as well. I was happy that the sashimi came with a bowl of rice on the side. Price - The prices are high, but standard as compared to other sushi restaurants. Basic sushi rolls range from $5-10, while specialty rolls cost around $10-15. The shrimp gyoza was probably the best thing in my order; but I certainly wouldn't order it again. I also ordered the Amy Roll which also didn't have a pleasant flavor combination. The yellowtail didn't seem fresh and there was no salmon in the roll as it was described.
