To start, my nails were not prepped at all, just ran a drill over them. I showed pictures of the exact shape I wanted, but it seemed like my tech, Diep Nguyen, wasn't listening or couldn't understand. When I tried to explain, she was defensive and combative, but I explained to her that I do my own acrylic nails at home most of the time and I've never had this problem. I come here regularly. Joy and Woody are the owners and they are just fantastic. This salon is right outside my neighborhood and even though they don't live in the 'hood with us, they are definitely part of our neighborhood. The salon itself is nice. There are 8 nail stations, 8 pedicure spas and a place for Joy to do waxes. There is also a private room that occasionally gets used for facials but it's only when a specialist brings a client there. It's not something they offer as one of their services. They have a great selection of colors, gel and regular polish. Woody always does my nails and toes and he does a fantastic job. He is a perfectionist! Joy is my moms go to and my sister goes to Joys brother, Denny. They always make time for me! It's a great little go to spot and super convenient. I've been searching for a nail salon since we moved here and have been disappointed by a few. One (highly rated one) even sanded down my nails too far that I'm now growing out. Nails N Joy is amazing and I would give it 6 stars if I could. They take their time, they are meticulous and extremely friendly. I brought my 8 year old daughter for a pedicure and they were extremely patient and kind with her even when she wouldn't stop moving while they were painting. I highly recommend them. read more

New to St. John's and needed a place to get a little pampering. I walked into Nails N Joy and immediately loved it. It was over-crowded and didn't seem like a place that would tell you to have a seat and sitting for an hour. I was right! I asked for an overlay on my nails and was told an appointment was coming in but I could come back later in the day. I appreciated they didn't try to squeeze someone in, making the person with an appointment having to wait. I made an appointment instead and when I walked in I was immediately sat down. Today was my first time at Joy's and it won't be my last. I came for a gel dip manicure. Woody started me off by soaking and filing my nails and Joy did the actual painting. She is a perfectionist! typically dip comes out really thick and bubbly. She took her time to file it down and make them look as natural as possible. They are perfect! I will be back!! read more

The best thing about this nail salon is the selection of nail polishes. The owner Joy constantly updates the store's collection. They carry various brands of gel polish including OPI, Shellac, Gel-ish, Karina, etc. More recently, she added the OPI Hello Kitty collection. The spa is clean and well-maintained. I've been a customer on and off for a few years and I've never been disappointed. Joy and her family are friendly and skilled. Plus, their product seems to stay on better than when I go to other salons. They don't have as large of a color selection as some places BUT I've never had a problem finding a color I liked. As far as pedicures... everyone in there is excellent when it comes to keg massage. And I don't know about you but it's annoying to me when they mess up that part of a pedicure. I got a regular gel manicure, nothing special. And the lady that did mine (not the owner) messed up so many times. It was streaky and not clean on the cuticles. There was a lot of polish on my skin and she told me "just take it off, when you get home". And this manicure lasted less than 5 days because of how messy she painted them. read more

Unfortunately the pedicure always chips quickly after I get it and they never really evenly buff your feet. I've been to Nails N Joy 2 three times now. I love it! First of all, it's CLEAN! I'm severely allergic to latex which makes it extremely difficult to find a salon that is not contaminated with latex everywhere. Only one girl uses them, but only at one station. The entire staff is friendly and they actually make good conversation with their customers. My nails look beautiful and my pedicure always feels and looks wonderful. Don't bother setting up an appointment! I made an appointment and had to wait another hour. When they took another client, I asked how long it would take and the lady told me to basically reschedule, then the older man told me to just wait. Please, never go here. It's the worst nail salon in comparison to all nail salons in Jacksonville. They're not concerned with promoting good customer service, and instead are more concerned about taking your money. I had the worst experience here (2/10/2016) that I've ever had. When I came in, I told them that I simply wanted a fill ($15, according to them verbally and according to the board in the entrance.) They said okay. I sat down, and the owner (female, talkative) began to work on my nails. She then began to remove my acrylics that were already on my nails, without telling me what she was doing or asking me. I let her do it, assuming she knew what she was doing. As she was removing the already existing acrylics, she broke one of my natural nails. The natural nail was hanging and was almost entirely ripped off. I ignored it, assuming she was going to clip it off. Instead, she tried to put acrylic over the nail she broke. I told her to stop, and that that shouldn't be done because the nail is not attached and it could rot. She said it was okay. I said no, do not do it. She seemed frustrated, but said she'd glue on a plastic nail for me on that nail, as if she was doing me a favor (after she broke my nail...). After completion, she told me to wash my hands and that when I wash them, she'd be ready to paint the polish on my nails. I said before I wash my hands, I'd like my nails to be shorter (they were a ridiculous length, and I work in a professional field.) She, frustrated, said "next time someone does your nails, tell them you want them short!' This is funny to me, because when she first began to work on my nails I did claim I wanted them short. I guess she ignored that. Here's where it gets absurd. My nails are done and I go to pay. She claims it is $25. I say "a fill is $15. Where did the extra $10 come from?" (not that I mind, it's only $10, but I can't believe I'm getting charged for something I did not permit her to do.) She says "oh, I put on new acrylics and the addition of a new plastic nail because your nail broke is $5." SHE broke my nail and CHARGED ME. Also, she charged me for something I did not want without telling me. This is the owner, mind you. Don't go here. read more

First experience (3/23) at nails n joy was I thought a good one. My nails were done by the owner and instead of focusing on doing a good job, she decided to chat my ear off about family stuff that happened to her many years ago. I was fine with chatting, until I realized my nail appt was done after 30 minutes and I could tell they were half assed! I had a friend coming in town the next morning until the following Tuesday, so I had no time to fix the issue. After the weekend, my nails started lifting and chipping. It was so easy to take the polish off, it was as if I had regular polish on. Wednesday I called and asked if I could come in Saturday (4/1) to get them redone since they had chipped and peeled after less than a week. Gentleman said sure and scheduled my appointment, saying nothing about me having to pay or anything. Saturday arrive at salon for scheduled appointment and wait 15 minutes for anyone to help me. Sit down to another lady (not the original/owner who did my nails previously) and told her I was in last Thursday and my nails chipped/peeled, etc. She asks me who did my nails, I point to the owner and they start talking in their language about the situation. The owner proceeds to tell me, in more words, that basically it's my fault and maybe my nails don't take to the gel right?!? What!! I've been getting my nails done for years with zero issue. She then says, in a rude tone, she's been doing this 20 years and has never had a peeling issue with any other customers (clearly that's a lie, as another yelper complained about the same thing). She even carried on a conversation with the customer she was helping, about this situation, right next to me. They took $5 off the full price of a gel "manicure" and never apologized. Terrible business management and customer service. I will never set foot in this place again! Word of advice: should you have peeling or chipping, make sure you complain within 3 days of your service, or you pay full price for the mistake to be corrected. But really, find a different place! read more
